here's a live look towards the dublin interchange. san mateo bridge traffic moving at the speed limit this morning both directions of highway 92. and if you are crossing the golden gate bridge, this is what it looks like. they should have four lanes now. we saw the crews in the last traffic report four southbound two northbound and once again you may see some extra traffic tie-ups on 101 especially north towards rohnert park. they got the new casino open second day now. that is your latest "kcbs traffic." back to you guys. election results now. voters in san francisco have rejected a plan to build luxury waterfront condos. 62% of voters shot down prop b known as 8 washington development in yesterday's off- year election. voters also rejected a related measure, proposition c, which would have allowed taller buildings at the same location. 8 washington project was approved by the board of supervisors last year. but critics forced the issue to a vote. >> we don't need 134 high-rise luxury condos that will really

change what our waterfront looks like. >> the waterfront alliance which opposed the project now turning its attention to a planned basketball arena. the group wants san francisco leaders to reassess the golden state warriors proposal on the bay. some stricter gun control laws passed down in sunnyvale nearly two-thirds of voters in the low crime city approved measure c to require gun owners to report a loss or theft of weapons to police within 48 hours. firearms will have to be locked up now when not in the owner's direct possession and ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds will be banned in the city. the national rifle association plans to sue in hopes of stopping it. the race for governor of new jersey was among several high-profile elections across the country. republican chris christie easily beat the democratter challenger. he got more than 60% of the vote in his democrat leaning state. >> i know that if we can do this in trenton, new jersey,

golf and country club. some occasions they have been aggressive towards humans. last night the city council approved a temporary plan to allow trained professional to trap and shoot the pigs. >> just really would have progressed to the fact that we would have been overwhelmed with the pigs. we're surrounded by homes. there was no way we can fence up the whole golf course. it's impossible. >> this is an exception to san jose's ban on firing guns within city limits. trappers will only be able to shoot the captured pigs until february 5. that should give the city some time to come up with a long-term solution. parks will soon be off limits overnight in san francisco. the board of supervisors voted yesterday to close parks from midnight to 5 a.m. supporters say the idea is to cut down on vandalism and illegal dumping. homeless advocates say the new ordinance will displace thousands of people who sleep at parks at night. it could take at least a month for the new law to take effect. the anticipated crowds showed up for the opening of

the new casino up in the north bay. thousands poured into the graton resort and casino in rohnert park yesterday morning. the parking lot was full in no time. within two hours of opening, the doors were shut because it couldn't hold any more people. lines were so long a woman passed her way past security but didn't get away with it. out she comes. the crowds so big they closed the doors as mentioned after two hours. casino officials say they created 2,000 jobs. labor leaders say they are pleasantly surprised about the wages and benefits. they are above the market value for sonoma county and most of the workers are full time. >> whoever wants to make a career here, it's possible. i'm happy, you know, i'm disabled. you check me with my new car the next month or two. >> casino officials say dealers make an average of $40,000 a

year but you add tips and that can substantially increase the pay. a man set on fire on an ac transit bus in oakland is being treated for second- and third- degree burns on his legs. 18-year-old sasha fleischman was sleeping on the bus monday evening. he woke up to find his clothes in flames. police took a 16-year-old suspect into custody at oakland high school. police used surveillance images from the bus and talked to witnesses to catch the suspect. our brian webb tried to get an answer from the teenager. >> reporter: can you tell us why you did it, sir, tell us? why would you do something like that? >> the suspect did not have anything to say. fleischman is listed in stable condition. some other bay area news now. questions are being raised about a potential witness being sought in the case of a patient that was found dead in a stairwell at san francisco hospital. an attorney for five members of the sheriff's department says he wonders if that man even exists. the possible witness reportedly

that ramp so they can clear an earlier accident. so delays behind it in sunnyvale. things okay sunnyvale okay at the 880/237 interchange. okay towards zanker road. bay bridge everything good on the approaches. yesterday 4 was a mess. huge gravel spill major delays heading towards the bay bridge. right now everything is clear including the eastshore freeway commute 19 minutes now pretty typical between the carquinez bridge to the maze. golden gate bridge traffic everything flowing nicely out of novato all the way down through san rafael. and heading towards doyle drive really nice and quiet all green on all the traffic sensors and now that it's past 5:00 the roadwork has also been picked up northbound 880. they have various lanes blocked. we haven't seen this that while approaching the downtown oakland exit between 23rd and broadway. all lanes are now reopened and caltrans says it's free and clear. southbound and northbound. southbound traffic looks great

shore. he died at the hospital. passengers had to scramble to safety after a plane caught fire in month you can. 250 people on board the royal air flight out of morocco. the boeing 767 had just landed at the montreal airport when flames broke out yesterday. five passengers were injured while sliding down the emergency chutes there. a conveyor belt overheated while luggage was being off- loaded and caught fire. back to business at the new jersey shopping mall the scene of a the shooting monday night. the garden state plaza in programs was closed yesterday as investigators gathered evidence and crews cleaned up the scene. no victims were killed or hurt during the shooting . the gunman was found dead in an apparent suicide. the oldest woman to ever compete in a new york city marathon has died. san jose's joy johnson was 86 years old when she ran the marathon for the 25th time this past weekend. she fell and hit her head

development, in yesterday's off year election. they also rejected prop c to allow taller buildings at the same location. our political analyst melissa griffin-caen joins us with more. >> good morning. >> reporter: good morning. >> all right. tell us about the waterfront plan in san francisco. what happens? >> you know, i went to it the poll yesterday with christopher at about 6 p.m. and we were voters number 34 and 35 at our polling place. [ laughter ] >> wow. >> so as soon as i saw that i thought, wow, this is really in trouble because what you have here is a dedicated group of folks who are very, very much against the project. and there was really no constituency in favor of the project. and nothing else on the ballot that was going to get people who weren't fired up to the polls. so with this low voter turnout, remember, the director of elections estimated 35% voter turnout ended up being around 22%. basically what you had is only the people who are very much against this project turned out for various reasons related to

the fact that every day we see notices that ellis evictions are up, rents are, people were not inspired to vote for luxury condos and they didn't and it went down in spectacular fashion. >> they spent $40 million of the teachers retirement money to do this as an investment. that fails. what happens next? >> reporter: they all have to go back to the drawing board. they have to look at the money they spent and look at the possibility of sorted of saving as much of this project as they can and moving forward. is it time to cut ties? there is no way they can fix this. they could come back with a shorter version of the development project that fits within the 84-foot requirement and it could be really awful and neighbors would hate that maybe just as much. but they wouldn't have the opportunity to vote on it because it wouldn't require a height exemption so this story is certainly not over. you can bet they are going to circle back together and figure out how they can make this work going forward.

>> let's turn to nationwide elections. amazing. >> reporter: it was very interesting to see everyone on pins and needles watching the virginia governor's race and that one was very close. and actually, if they waited a few more weeks the obamacare rollout was so clunky it started to cause problems for the democratic candidate but the vote happened right at the right time. and democrat terry mcauliffe beat the tea party candidate in ken cuccinelli in a big upset and the direct result of the government shutdown in alabama, we saw the tea party candidate also lose to a more moderate candidate in a republican primary. so not a great day for the tea partiers. everyone is going to be looking to these elections as they determine where they put their money for next year's congressional races in november 2014. >> politics there. we are going to talk about sunnyvale because they passed that gun measure down there. >> reporter: they did. and it's about to go to court. longer. the company is canceling california policies in the wake of the affordable care act but the state insurance commissioner is threatening to sue the company now. the health insurance giant was supposed to give families 180 day cancellation notice but only gave 90 days warning. >> blue shield refused initially to comply with this law so i notified them that i would file a court action to force them to comply. >> blue shield will now send out a correction notice. customers who want to keep their coverage longer need to respond by december 6. happening today, san jose state is slashing classes across the board. students will have fewer options and crowded classes come next semester. as kpix 5's cate caugiran reports, departments were given just hours' notice. cate. >> reporter: yes. this news comes just as students registering for the new spring term. so the future for san jose students and faculty right now is up in the air because what it looks like, it looks like a balancing act at this point.

the department heads were told just last week to slash programs to keep the school afloat and sources say those department leaders are going to meet today at 10:30 to talk about another round of budget cuts to the tune of $16 million. now, for students and faculty this will mean increased class sizes, classes dropped and potential layoffs. in addition, professors may have to teach classes outside their expertise. this news comes as a shock to students and faculty because just last year california voters approved proposition 30 promising relief from budget cuts like these. a university spokesman tells the "san jose mercury news" it's about cutting the school's $32 million deficit and last month it was clear that the school's academic programs were on track to overspend $3.8 million. so university leaders are saying this is not a midyear cut but instead they are just asking the academic programs or departments to operate within the budget but if we're talking

northbound 880 very quiet right now up towards your downtown oakland exit. and approaching high street. better news in sunnyvale. we were watching a fender- bender with a noninjury crash in sunnyvale. for a while they closed the connector ramp. everything is reopened. highway 4 an unusual amount of slowing and i'm not sure why. it's very slow-and-go right now. pretty much in the slow category as you can see from all those red sensors from "a" street towards your antioch exit. anyway, something must be going on. nothing in our chp reports. but just a heads up. once you gets towards pittsburgh then things improve. westbound 580 very sluggish as well coming off every out of tracy to 205 approaching vasco road we are seeing more slowing. that's why the drive times are about 25 minutes between the altamont pass and the dublin interchange. and if you are heading through the macarthur maze, this was our problem spot yesterday. we had a gravel truck over turn pretty late in the morning commute yesterday. just jammed up the works at the caldecott tunnel. anyway, nothing like that this

morning. all the approaches to the bay bridge still look pretty good. and bart has 41 trains and they are all on time. that is your "kcbs traffic." this is our last gasp of warm weather i guess. for more on that, here's lawrence. >> for a little while at least. it looks like we have a few more clouds outside this morning as you step out the door. looks like it's going to be a great day ahead, other than a few clouds, we'll see a lot of sunshine between the clouds and that means the temperatures will be warmer outside. but we have some patchy fog out toward the coastline early on. mild to warm as we head in toward the afternoon. then big changes coming our way as early as tomorrow. high pressure holding on for one last day but the ridge starting to flatten out just a little bit. you can see a lot of clouds cruising over the top of that ridge so the warmest day of the week today some mild temperatures tomorrow, we start to cool things down and then much bigger changes in the latter part of the weekend. around the state, you're looking at 74 degrees in sacramento and sunny there. 75 in fresno, 57 degrees partly cloudy in lake tahoe and 70 and sunny into monterey bay. temperatures around our bay today moving well into the 70s inland. you will see 70s inside the bay

[ laughter ] thanks, lawrence. 5:50 now. the old bay bridge will stay up a little bit longer. efforts to tear down the bridge were supposed to begin today. but the start date has been delayed until the debris containment system is in place. the entire demolition process will take three years. and remember the bolts that threatened to delay the opening of the new bridge? we are now learning crews are a month behind on installing the permanent fix. over the summer we got a look at the seismic saddles that are supposed to solve the problem. the installation should be done though by the beginning of january. a weed windfall is pumping money into a northern california county. people from across the country are filling the streets of nevada county to help trim this season's marijuana harvest. they are pumping a lot of extra money into local businesses but city officials say they don't want the county to be just known for pot production. >> if we want to recruit, say, a high-tech company, they may be given pause because they
