force base. cate cauguiran recount it is moments where a stunt went horribly wrong. >> spectators were recording the moment it happened. even the announcer knew something just wasn't right, noting the pilot in the vintage plane went upside earlier than before and then the touchdown, no one expected. >> standstill, stay right where you are. we've had an incident. we are aware of that. >> reporter: the plane glides down the airfield, the crowd watching in disbelief. smoke starts white at first and minutes later, black smoke and flames come pouring out of the aircraft. the investigators at traffic air force base spoke monday morning with an update on the investigation. >> we were focusing strictly on the perishable evidence which is the site of the guard and getting moved. and evaluated. >> military officials say the pilot's 70-year-old eddie andretti had done this maneuver

several times. >> if you reference his web site, you can see mr. andretti has been flying since he was 16 years old and performing in air shows for the past 25 years. >> extraordinarily talented pilot and drove several airplanes around here. it was his pride and joy. >> he lived supply, working with planes since he was a teen. >> people would come up to him. how you doing, eddie? he was a highly regarded gentleman and loved by all. it came as a shock today. when we heard it, people started crying here. >> reporter: investigators are looking into winds were a factor in the collision during the time of the crash, anywhere between 10 to 18 miles per hour. the ntsb said a preliminary report will be available in about five days. reporting live in the newsroom, cate cauguiran, kpix 5. new at noon, the clue into the cause of the tragic accident at a rhode island circus. investigators are now saying a

clamp snap sending a team of aerial acrobats plummeting to the ground. reporter wendy gillette talked to some. >> reporter: sending eight acrobats crashing to the ground, that's what the safety told today. all the injured are expected to cover. >> i was sure they would have fatalities. >> reporter: close to 4,000 people were in attendance at the ringling brothers barnum and bailey's circus. many of them children, when the human chandelier performance went horribly wrong. >> the big metal thing hits all of them. >> reporter: the parent company of ringling brothers said the performers had been putting on some variation of the routine for some time. it requires them to hang by their hair alone, while performing complicated core

up in court today. the lawsuit is over martin's beach. as mark kelly reports, they have to fight the silicon valley billionaire who owns the beach. >> reporter: he marched into san mateo court. return beautiful martins beach and san mateo county to the public. >> this gentleman comes up, buys the beach, and threatens to sue anybody who comes across the gate and have them arrested for trespassing. >> reporter: he bought the 53 acres of pristine beach front property back in 2008 and soon after, put up a gate, restricting all access from the public. he has the right to own the beach but can't restrict public access. that allows citizens like you and i and our children to use the beach.
