walnut creek police headquarters. anne? >> reporter: right now, that shooter is still on the loose. two people were injured in the shooting in an area that normally does not see this kind of violence that happened at 8:00 last night. it was daylight at the time. a man and a woman were driving back from a concert at the concord pavilion when another car pulled alongside at oak grove and ignacio valley road. fired more shots and then got back in on oak grove road. driving a light colored sedan with a black masked t-shirt and jeans. as for the two people shot, one

of them is in critical condition at the hospital and then the other one was treated and released and is expected to be okay. police say that right after the shooting last night, the 9-1-1 lines were flooded with calls. so some of the people weren't able to get their tips to police and will call back sometime today. anne makovec, kpix 5. now the terrible story about the shooting in isla vista. some were from the bay area, cate. >> reporter: the third victim may have been visiting that night. two victims from san jose and one from fremont and david wang

was a sophomore at uc santa barbara and one of the first victims. tells kpix 5 that the 20-year- old engineering student loves with a bright future cut short. >> such a good kid and intelligent and plays basketball. very nice to never argue. >> investigating whether wayne was a roommate and james chang from san jose and elliot rodger. all three stabbed to death. rodger switched from knives to gun killing three more and then took his own life with a bullet from his head. >> such an awful story, cate. one of the injured was from the bay area as well. >> nick pasichuke from alamo.

time now is 6:29. we're watching the latest developments in the college town rampage that left six victims dead as well as the killer near u.c. santa barbara. cate cauguiran is in the newsroom and cate, three were from there and an apparent guest. >> roommates were just weeks away from moving out of their apartment with the accused killer and the third victim, as you mentioned, may have been there just for a visit. >> reporter: he was such a good kid. david's parents are too devastated to talk. santa barbara county sheriff's deputy wondering if he was a roommate or just visiting.

the other victim, george and cheng with elliot rodger. all three were stabbed to death. >> he talked about his killing his roommates while he slept and talked about luring as many as people as possible into his apartment and killing them. >> reporter: police say after killing his roommate, rodger switched from a stapping to shooting spree and then it was too late for david. >> i talked to his mom and yeah, it's just so hard for her. she said she really want all the schools to know that she definitely doesn't want this kind of thing to happen again to other kids. >> reporter: for david we know, the 20-year-old engineering student, didn't stand a chance. for his family, a bright future cut way too short.

and one of the injured victims from that was on a state board. his parents say he's recovering this morning. cate cauguiran, kpix 5. minutes before the killing began, the suspect's parents got a call from his therapist with a warning about the possible violence. the parents were rushing to isla vista when they heard the news about the rampage. elliot rodger left behind a manifest titled by twisted world and left a youtube video in which he talked about his plans. >> it's apparent the extent of how disturbed mr. rodger was. >> tomorrow is the day of retribution. the day in which i will have my revenge against humanity. >> reporter: weeks ago, they

were so concerned about rodger's mental health, they sent police to check on him. on memorial day monday, and trying to enjoy the weather. they'll enjoy what he got going here today. a little fog creeping in closer to the coastline and otherwise, we've got a whole lot of sunshine away from the coast and you'll see plenty of sun and some warm temperatures too, getting a little hot in some of the interior valleys. look at the beautiful sunrise on this memorial day with nice clear skies out over the bay and waters, very calm right now. we'll all see a stronger sea breeze in the coastline that will likely carry with it some patches towards the beaches. 70s and 80s in the bay and maybe some low 90s for the valleys. all right. let's check on the roads for this busy memorial day. >> it is really quiet out there. it was busier on 4:30.

maybe still up from before. only 14 minutes between the pass. and they're finally starting to clear out this accident on northbound 880 and thornton avenue onramp. it was reportedly a major injury accident still blocking one lane and expected to be clear shortly. southbound 280 this major freeway closure continuing throughout the holiday weekend from king street to mariposa and 101 and jump back on to 280 using the shot. that's the latest traffic. walnut creek police are looking for the gunman who shot two people in a car after a concert. kpix 5's anne makovec is live

at the walnut creek police headquarters with the latest. morning, anne. >> reporter: good morning, i just spoke with police. it happened when it was light outside. there are people out there who might know something but two people were shot. the shooter is is still on the loose. it happened before 8:00 last night. a man and a won driving back from a concert at the concord pavilion when another car pulled up alongside. there's at a red light on oak grove and ignacio valley grove. a man started shooting into the passenger side hitting both the man and the passenger. shot and took off on oak grove road. >> absolutely, it was 7:30 in the evening. a lot of traffic at the concert and in the middle of everything. it's extremely unusual to have that. >> reporter: the suspect is described as african american,

early 20s, six feet tall, a light colored sedan with a black masked t-shirt and jeans. as for the two people shot, one of them is still in critical condition this morning. the other one was treated and released. >> thank you, anne. police are investigating a suspicious death. officers were called shortly before 10:00 yesterday morning. when they arrived, they found a 39-year-old woman dead inside that apartment. the victim lived at the house but no word yet on how she died. >> the relative woke up this morning and noticed that the female's vehicle was here. said she was supposed to be at work. and then went around looking for her and found her in her bedroom. we had enough evidence at the scene to believe it was not a death of natural causes.

>> police say the woman's husband was not home at the time and so far, they have not been able to locate him. a 9-year-old girl who was shot while playing in front of her east oakland home is paralyzed from the neck down. the shooting happened ten days ago. they fired more than ten bullets. jacqueline was hit in the neck and remains hospitalized in critical condition. another man who police believe was the intended target was injured in the shooting. police are still looking for leads on the suspects. a cupertino girl is about to take part in the scripps national spelling bee in maryland. >> nee ha won back in march.
