right now at 7:00 p.m. >> a man pleads for his life after a gas station stabbing. why are neighbors pointing fingers tonight? >> not safe to be out. >> a wild police chase. suspects ditch the vehicle. one of them jumping roof to roof. >> no, no, no, no. >> i hope the families are okay. >> a 3:00 a.m. crash following a chase. this suv packed with teenagers. wait until you hear the age of the driver. >> please be morespone. >> the school district shuffling students around different public schools. parents are not happy. >> we have too many schools and not enough students. >> a driver hits and kills a
biker. why did he wait before calling 911. >> i don't know. maybe grieving. he was just sitting there. >> the new kpix 5 news at 7:00 p.m. starts right now with surveillance video following a brutal stabbing at a gas station. good evening. >> neighbors say it is part of a troubling trend. the attack happened at a shell station at east hamilton. off of highway 17. kpix 5's len ramirez is there for us tonight. . >> reporter: neighbors say the stabbing that took place early this morning is pattern of violence that is hitting this neighborhood. surveillance video shows it stabbing incident at gas station at 1:20 a.m. in the morning. the victim can be seen getting jumped. moments later suspects are seen getting into a vehicle and speeding away. the victim calls out to the gas station attendant for help.
moments later the victim is seen gathering paper towels from the windshield washing station to soak up his own blood as the attendant calls 911. >> suspect stabbed the victim multiple times. the suspect had a couple other people in the car with him and they all fled the scene. >> the victim was treated for multiple stab wounds and is expected to survive. police say it could be gang related. >> we are looking into that possibility for sure. something our detectives are considering and based on the video. >> reporter: neighbors say it is a pattern they are seeing between west san jose and campbell. >> how are we supposed to live in this area statement keeping our kids safe from the gangs? >> reporter: there have been two fatal shootings since the beginning of the year. bull holes and graffiti are part of the landscape.
>> it is recall unsafe. scary. >> reporter: neighbors had enough because they are afraid to go outside. >> stay in your house right now. not safe to be out walking around. >> reporter: tonight neighbors are holding a safety meeting with the mayor of san jose as well as the police chief to ask for answers. in campbell, len ramirez,. >> reporter: -- len ramirez, kpix 5. a police chase and crash and the driver only 14-years- old. the chp says officers tried to pull the driver over early this morning. a pursuit followed and then ended when the driver crashed into a tree west of 41 avenue. all six teenagers were taken to the hospital. ages range from 14 to 18. five of them are girls. police say they attempted the traffic stop and the driver was arrested. >> too close to home.
i hope the families are okay. >> know where your kids are at. if you think having -- laying your keys somewhere poses a threat because they will take it, please be more responsible and hide your keys. in southern california two robbery suspects led police on a chase. it began in east los angeles and ended in bell gardens. the driver was seen barreling down the sidewalk and on the wrong side of the road. they finally ended up pulling in to an alley and ditching the vehicle. >> look at this. that is something we haven't seen in a while. on a rooftop right there. >> the woman ran and jumped from roof to roof. she eventually met up with her accomplice. police took them into custody. parents are speaking out against a second round of school closures in & mergers. -- and mergers. kpix 5's andria borba is live with the story. . >> reporter: the parents are
giving the school board an ear full without how much they don't want their campus to close -- full about how much they don't want their campus to close. parents and students dressed in green in the oakland hills are coming out to try stop the oakland school district from moving their campus on 61 street. >> strong and kids are successful in. >> reporter: they said it is about having too many schools and not enough students. >> last year we had 11,000 empty seats. >> reporter: round two of school consolidations. last year parents and students spoke out to stop their campus from getting rolled into another. despite the protests the schools merged. kaiser families are hoping to avoid the same fate. >> i really love the teachers. they were very, very nice.
i don't think i dreaded going to school. >> the school district spokesperson says only the location is changing. >> the school is not the building. the school is the people, the administration, the teachers, the staff that support the students and the students and the families. so what we want to do is take that group of people at this school and put them on another location where they can grow much bigger. >> reporter: her brother is at kaiser and she wants him to graduate from there just like her. >> he is very annoying but i still love him and i want him to feel like that too. >> reporter: the school board will make the final vote on september 11. >> andria borba reporting live. thank you. our fire watch now. a brush fire near byron that is nearly contained tonight. flames ripping through the vegetation. it broke out this afternoon ourang highway 4 -- along
highway 4. three structures were damaged. it is unclear if they are homes or any were total losses. the cause is still unclear. tonight investigators in fremont trying to figure out what took a driver so long to call police after hitting a bicyclist. he was struck and killed this morning. a witness told kiet do what he saw. >> reporter: turns out there is at least a 10 to 15 minute window to when the biker was hit to when the driver actually called 911. and so the question remains, what took him so long to call police. the windshield and dented hood gives an indication about the force of the impact and how fast the driver was going. investigators say before sun rise the car hit the biker and kept on going. >> he was rear ended. at this point the information shows he road up on to the car and road on the car and then
thrown off of it as the vehicle braked. >> he drove to where he works in the area and then came back and co-workers came back with him and they took the bike off of the car because it was stuck on the car. >> reporter: investigators say the collision was in this area. the victim's body tumbled off the car here and the car parked here in the parking lot. the bike was pulled off and set down nearby. which meant the driver went some distance in the dark with a bike in his smashed windshield and he was just arriving at work and saw the driver in the parking lot. >> he was outside of his car when i saw him and he was just -- he had his arms folded. i couldn't tell if anything was wrong. >> reporter: that was before 5:00 a.m. the driver called at 5:11 a.m. if the timing is true, the driver waited for at least 10 to 15 minutes before calling 911. >> what do you think he was doing? >> i don't know.
maybe grieving. i don't know. he was just sitting there. >> reporter: police say the driver has been cooperating and gave a blood sample. he hasn't been arrested oor cited just yet. -- or cited just yet. kiet do, kpix 5. some groups are feeling the keys more than others. activists sued oakland saying they are being priced out. they say they have no choice but to live in newer buildings with higher price tags because the rent roled buildings are not safe or accessible to them. >> my rent gone up 70% in the last 70 years i lived in the bay area and we are seeing this is pricing people out. >> . >> according to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs asked oakland to include accessible units in the rent but didn't happen. oakland city attorney's office would like to see the laws change but right now the city has to comply with state law.

and go up to 100,000. >> but not a rally. >> not a rally. >> the republican national committee says the secrecy that will surround the event should come as no prize. >> felt like i was crossing the border actually. it's true. >> reporter: in april 2016 trump had to abandon his car on a highway and cross a fence to reach the republican national convention and june 2016 when he held a rally in downtown san jose producing some of the ugliest moments of the campaign cycle. the rally ended with a bloody melee as trump supporters were chased down and attacked. republicans still blame city officials and police for the violence. >> never hold a rally ercommit
the safety. >> reporter: why would president trump come to the bay area? he outraised all but two of his democratic challengers in california so there is still plenty of money to be had and he is also scheduling two other stops in california. wilson walker, kpix 5. for a look at the california coast, the view from highway one is legendary. it recently got an update, one that will make the trip more enjoyable. a resurfacing project covers 10- mile stretch from 2 to the gray whale cove. now surface of the highway is much smoother than a normal road. >> for someone to understand you have to drive it. and once you drive it you will

. here is what you ssed, hurricane dorian is expected to intensify before making landfall somewhere in the atlantic over labor day weekend. now hurricane dorian is already pounding the u.s. virgin islands with rain and wind as category 1 hurricane. the national hurricane center says hurricane dorian shifted in the general direction of florida today and could hit the state as a category 3. winds over 100 miles an hour are expected. and sad news tonight. jesse conger was known as the world policy fastest woman on four wheels. in oregon yesterday she was killed as she tried to beat her
