this is kpix5 news. now on kpix 5 and streaming on cbsn bay area a rests just announced in the killings of two boys near an east bay elementary school. good afternoon. i'm kenny choi. >> i'm michelle griego. the state attorney general just spokes about what it took to make those arrests. let's get to anne makovec at the live news desk. >> reporter: it weather on for almost three months at the local and state level to arrest two people. here is one of their mugshots. and a 17-year-old, they are accused of pill ing up their vehicle next to a van outside an elementary school and you're looking at a neighbor's security cam and they were

shooting and killed the two boys hanging outside that van. it was november 2019. they were 14 and 11 years old. their names kevin hernandez and sean withing ton. both suspects were already in custody on unrelated charges. >> it may not extinguish that anguish, that disbelief, that apprehension but maybe it brings a sense of direction and purpose that we have to find some conclusion, some resolution to these types of senseless acts of vice lense. >> detective had search wants last week and found multiple guns including an ak-47 assault rifle, $60,000 of marijuana and methamphetamine and $10,000 in cash. the suspects in the case are facing murder charges as well as a gang enhancement. investigators are keeping much

of the investigation under wraps right now, but they say it was done with the help of electronic and physical surveillance and there are other persons of interest out there and more arrests may come. and new at noon, san francisco mayor is reveal ag prior relationship with former public works director who is now facing federal corruption charges. in a lengthy post, the two dated briefly two decades ago and have remained close friends since then. she goes on to say, i never asked him to do anything improper and he never asked me to do anything improper. i was not aware of the schemes alleged by the fbi until shortly before they became public and when i was informed i immediately reported the information to our city attorney. he accepted lavish gifts from people with city business and took deeply discounted help

fixing up his vacation home. she accepted his resignation this week. in her post, she said she will disclose in a city statement a $5,600 gift she received from him to fix her personal car. police are investigating the discovery of two bodies in a driveway. jackie ward has more about what might have happened there. jackie. >> reporter: michelle, that is one of the unusual things about this, the fact a hazmat team is on the scene here with the sheriff's office and classifying as a death investigation. we're only being told that the circumstances around this situation require the hazmat team's attention. around 8:00 this morning, the fire department was called in sleepy hollow, up a very long, steep hill. a male and female were found dead in the driveway, one inside the car and one out, but

authorities are not telling which person was found where. a dog who thigh believe is unharmed was found inside the car with one of the victims. we spoke to a neighbor who livers up the hill from the home and she said no one has lived at that house for awhile. >> no one has been living there for at least a year and a half, maybe two years. >> i think it is generally a safe neighborhood and we don't -- we are not called out here, too often. >> reporter: the hazmat team will be here for several more hours today and the sheriff's office said they won't release another update until their work is done. they say there is no immediate threat to the public. in sleepy hollow, jackie ward, kpix 5. public health lab as cross- country will begin testing people who are having flu-like symptoms for coronavirus. they will begin in l.a., new york, chicago and san francisco. meantime united airlines confirmed a flight from san francisco was put on lockdown

this morning after a passenger was suspected of possibly having the virus. united says the plane has undergone a deep cleaning. more medical teams arrived in china's hard hit province and roughly 1700 health workers there have been infected by coronavirus, six have died. in japan, 11 passengers were allowed off a quarantined cruise ship. they will prioritize disembarking passengers who may be at high risk for the virus. they will continue their quarantine at a government designated facility. >> presidential candidates are heading to the bay area to win your vote. pete buttigieg will be in san francisco today for a rs are. students were rallying outside the candidates fundraising event. their goal to say what "the
