three-day weekend. we will look at the first alert forecast. and tackling climate change. california's new partnership with new zealand. golden state bound for the nba finals once again and they will start the series at chase center next thursday. home court advantage sounds great i am sure. we don't know yet, and it is a big one, who they are going to be playing. for now, everybody's happy, the players, fans, everybody celebrating last night's win in game five at home. we have team coverage for you. first kpix 5 shawn chitnis wihe and how fans can get those tickets. >> less than 24 hours before the general public has a chance to try to get tickets to game one of the nba finals right here at chase center, even before we know who the warriors will be facing off, fans were already showing up here at thrive city to get new misdemeanors and celebrate the warriors win. presales began this morning and continue into the afternoon.

then tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. that's your first chance for single-game tickets to game one and two. the first two games of the nba finals will be here at chase center. fans we talked to said they may try their luck and see if they can get inside chase center for the beginning of the nba finals. but many were excited just to be able to cheer the team on from home. >> no. >> i hope to see the finals here in the arena. >> they did it at home. >> reporter: and if necessary, games five and seven will be here at chase center. reporting in san francisco, shawn chitnis, kpix 5. >> it is never too early to grab some western conference championship gear. just ask these people. they lined up at dick's sporting goods to buy championship shirts and hats. and charlie walters with me now. this was a big win. i saw the elation on steph's face, draymond was incredibly happy after the game. but they have to know there is a big challenge ahead of them. >> yeah, but they could soak in

the celebration last nate. it's now six trips to the nba finals in eight years. the warriors are no strangers to the league's biggest stage. but this one was a long road back to the finals. a little bit different than they had been doing in recent years. they had two years away from this one and last night the dubs defeated the mavericks to win the western conference finals of course. it's been a long couple of years since losing in the 2019 finals. think about what went into it. kevin durant left. klay thompson missed two seasons with two separate injuries. two years without making the playoffs, including the worst record in the league in 2019-2020 which led to james wiseman. all that adversity made last night that much sweeter. >> a tough few years it's been since the '19 finals. to get back again is special for all of us. >> this one is very sweet. the adversity the last two

years, yowe never lost faith bu you understand how hard it was going to be to climb the mountain again the. >> all right. warm up the hands. the finals begin next thursday at chase center. we could know their opponent in about five hours. if the celtics beat the heat, they close out the eastern conference finals. >> thank you, charlie. here is the schedule for the first four games of the nba finals. mark your calendars now. game one next thursday, chase center. game two the following sunday at chase. june 8 and 10 in boston or miami. it is also a holiday friday. a getaway friday. we are looking the bay bridge. traffic is moving close to the toll plaza. more people may be hitting the roads in the next few hours for their memorial weekend plans. aaa expects 39 million americans to travel at least 50 miles from home. most will be driving and paying a lot for gas. 3 million will be flying and paying a lot for airfare.

you can't catch a break. >> there is a theme there. >> everything is expensive right now. some of us are just going to stay here and what's the weather going to be like? >> it's a cool start. if you stretched it into a four-day weekend, which sounds awesome at this point. let's take a look at the current temperatures. it is on the cool side across the bay area. most temperatures are in the 60s right now. it was just 48 hours ago we had some 100 plus temperatures on the map. the warmest spots in the low 70s and four of though locations around the bay area, 73 the warm spot at fairfield, 72 livermore and san jose and 70 palo alto. a lot going on this weekend. bottlerock in napa, a high temperature in the napa valley only around 70 degrees with more clouds than sunshine. it should be dry. more sunshine with warmer temperatures on sunday, mid-70s. a fantastic second day of the memorial day weekend. and if you are heading out to the carnival grand parade it's going to be cool in the city but

temperatures in the mid-60s before that onshore breeze kicks in. we will look at the complete weekend forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks, paul. now at 3:00, a new climate change teal between two leaders continents apart. california's governor and new zealand's prime minister signed an agreement today in san francisco. it means they will start to share information, including emissions-reducing research and collaborate on climate projects. >> green energy jobs are six to one greater than fossil fuel jobs already. and we are just winding un. we are just getting started. we are not interested in, again, the tyranny ofar. it's around the genius. we can grow the economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. >> our goal to make sure by 2035, 35% of our vehicles being evs. but we need to source them. so we had a long conversation about the kind of partnerships that we could form to try to overcome some of those supply issues in new zealand.

>> we brought you this news conference from new zealand's prime minister and governor newsom live on "cbs news bay area." we are on 24/7 streaming on kpix 5.com and the kpix 5 app. looking live in uvalde, texas, this is a growing memorial for the 21 people killed in tuesday's school shooting. as you know, most of them were very young children. that town is still deal with tremendous grief and surely will be for a very, very long time. and now we are learning about potential mistakes during the law enforcement response to that shooting. within the past hour, the governor of texas said he was misled about it. >> i am livid about what happened. and it is inexcusable that they may have suffered from any inaccurate information whatsoever. and it is imperative that the leaders of the investigations about exactly what happened get down to the very second of

exactly what happened with 100% accuracy. explain it to the public, but most importantly, to the victims who have been devastated. >> reporter jason allen now on the investigation into why it took 90 minutes to stop the gunman. >> reporter: for the benefit of hindsight, of course it was not the right decision. it was the wrong decision. the head of the texas department of public safety worked friday to explain what caused the delay. stopping the gunman inside robb elementary school. >> the on scene commander at the time believed that it had transitioned from an active shooter to a barricaded subject. >> reporter: the director says the commander i don'wrongly thoo more children were at risk seenz a trapped student and teacher repeatedly called 911 for help. law enforcement revealed that the school resource officer was not on the campus at the time of the shooting. they said he raced to the scene but towards a man he saw at the

back of the school who turned out to be a teacher. >> he drove by the suspect who was hunkered down behind the vehicle where he began shooting at school. >> reporter: authorities say the shooter gained access to the school through a door a teacher had propped open. >> my husband and i don't have any children at all. so that's why it hits me right here. >> reporter: the community continues to flock to a memorial outside the school leaving flowers and remembering all of the lives loost lost. jason allen, cbs news, uvalde, texas. congress is on its memorial day recess to june 6. after that texas shooting some lawmakers say they are going to work through the break on gun safety legislation. republican texas senator johnson cornyn. >> i expect there will be an informed debate about reforms we can make and i look forward to participating in those discussions. >> i have been working more than

three years on a red flag statute that seems to have met its moment. >> perhaps you have heard of red flag laws. they allow authorities to temporarily take guns away from people who could be a threat to themselves or to others. the house oversight committee announced it's launching an investigation into the makers of assault weapons. they are accusing them of profiting off deadly mass shootings. today the national rifle association is meeting for the annual convention in houston. that is less than 300 miles from the deadly school shooting in uvalde, texas. natalie brand has story. >> reporter: outside the national rifle association's annual meeting in houston thousands of demonstrators demanded gun safety in the wake of the texas elementary school massacre that killed 19 children and two teachers. >> we are pleading for help. we're pleading for help from everyone. >> reporter: inside texas

senator ted cruz and former president donald trump are headline speakers. >> rarely has the second amendment been more necessary to secure the rights of our fellow citizens. abbott canled hisaser govnor in speech but apared in prerecorded marks. the nra meeting moved forward despite calls to cancel with tens of thousands of nra members in attendance. >> we will not allow our second amendment rights to be taken away from us by bunch of cheap politicians. >> reporter: a poll taken following the grocery store massacre in buffalo but before the uvalde mass shooting shows around 54% of americans want stricter laws around the sale of guns. but our poll also revealed a stark partisan divide on the issue with less than 30% of republicans surveyed wanting stricter laws. and gun rights groups spent $15.8 million on lobbying last

cool ri now. it will be co head into the weekend. temperatures are gradually going to warm up. just plan on being a little bit on the cool side if you are going out to the carnaval parade. and temperatures will warm up a little bit more on sunday. the onshore breeze continues. a storm system moving into the pacific northwest continues to kick in that onshore breeze sending waves of cloud cover towards us. the clouds have been pretty much impossible to shake around the city and along the coast today. more sunshine farther inland. more clouds in tstore for everybody tomorrow. the darker the map looks, you are looking at the ground. not as much cloud cover for inland parts of the bay area. that fog and low cloud cover we started off with this morning towards the coast. widespread reduced visibility early saturday morning as the fog retreats towards the coast we will see more cloud cover moving in from the north and that gives us a chance, just a chance for a couple of showers north of the golden gate and along the coast. it's a 20% chance.

we are talking about just a little bit of drizzle. after that, the forecast completely dries out. not even that hint of moisture through most of next week. right now as we look outside a little bit of sunshine peeking through the clouds. mostly temperatures in the 60s. the warm spots, low 70s in livermore and in san jose. if you are heading out to the a.i.'s game, second game of the series, 62 degrees game time. it will be cool and brooeds. temperatures will tumble into the 50s throughout the course of the game. temperatures later on tonight mostly to where we started this morning, lower half of the 50s. some of the coolest spots the upper 40s. high temperatures tomorrow below average but mostly a couple degrees below average. slightly farther below normal in the east bay, 73 concord. only upper 50s on the coast once again. mostly low 70s down the peninsula and the south end of the bay with mid-70s in the santa clara valley. again those are the warmest

spots on the map for that part of the bay area. also inland in the east bay mid-70s from fairfield to antioch to brentwood. unusual to not have any 80 degree readings. low 60s in san francisco. mid-to-upper 60s for oakland and the east bay and mid-to-upper 60s 80s as well. sonoma above 70 degrees. that's the cooler bay of the bottlerock festival and temperatures in the 60s foort north as well. temperatures warm up a little bit on sunday except in san jose where a northerly breezy will deliver cooler bay air. close to steady. everybody warms up for memorial day close to normal temperatures with a brief stretch of above normal temperatures by tuesday and wednesday. that comes to an end with another wave of cool air and a stronger onshore breeze by thursday and friday. not the big temperature roller coaster ride we had earlier this week. more of a kiddie coaster through the holiday weekend. >> thanks. still ahead, posters for
