7:00 pm
>>and another anti-isis rally just got underway. this in oakland in the past hour. we're going to have a live report. good evening. we're following breaking news. governor gavin newsom just held a news conference accusing president trump of fanning the flames of protests in la by sending in the national guard and marines. newsom posting his video address on social media calling the deployment of brazen abuse of power by a sitting president. >>a president who wants to be bound by no law or constitution perpetuating a unified assault on american traditions at this moment. at this moment, we all need to stand up and be held to account a higher level of accountability. if you exercise your first amendment rights, please, please do it peacefully. i know many of you are are feeling deep anxiety,
7:01 pm
stress and fear, but i want you to know that you are the antidote to that fear and that anxiety. what donald trump wants most is your fealty, your silence to be complicit in this moment. do not give in to him. >>newsom filed today for an emergency restraining order to prevent president trump from deploying the national guard in the state. so a judge earlier today denied the request but scheduled a hearing for the issue on thursday afternoon. meantime, a community vigil is happening in oakland right now to show support for protests against ice in la and around the entire country. this is happening near the fruitvale bart station in oakland. amanda hari is live there right now to tell us what's happening. hi, amanda. >>hi. people here have been very passionate and they are showing up. there are hundreds of people here. you can see some of them behind me, but this crowd goes far back onto the plaza. hundreds of more
7:02 pm
people, organizers with bay resistance are calling this an interfaith vigil. but the energy is high. they want to send strength to people who are being impacted by ice. they say they're here because they believe what's happening in la is outrageous. there's been drumming, chanting and speeches from community leaders. organizers want to create a space where people can express their feelings about what's going on. >>so we actually want to stop trump from invading california and really demand that folks get their due process, and they actually are able to, you know, live and do what they need to do. and so the idea that ice is coming to california, we're just trying to show that there's community support and that we need to take a stand against this invasion of california. >>this event is expected to go until 730. we just heard from the new mayor, barbara lee. we'll have more on that at 11. >>yeah. right now, amanda looks like a very peaceful crowd right now. are they aware that governor newsom just spoke within the last half hour? >>i don't think many of these
7:03 pm
people here are aware of that. it hasn't been mentioned, and people here have been speaking for the last half hour. so i imagine many aren't aware, but i'm sure they'll find out soon. >>yeah. word trickles down, especially in that area. thank you so much amanda. appreciate that. all right. moving on. ice making more arrests in immigration courts in concord and also in san francisco today. and they were met with more protesters at both locations. both courts had to shut down early. our kevin koe was in the middle of all of that at the concord location. as for asylum seekers were detained and gives us a look at how the chaos all unfolded. >>this man was the last of four immigrants taken into custody by federal agents at the concord immigration courthouse. as soon as he and the two plainclothes agents walked out the doors, they were confronted by a group of about 100 protesters. one woman in the pink hat coming right up to the agents physically trying to block >>them. you separating families.
7:04 pm
>>other federal agents tried to push protesters back, clearing a path as an suv pulled up with sirens blaring. the man being detained was put inside the back seat as agents tried to control the crowd, but protesters didn't back off as the suv tried to inch forward. a couple of protesters got in front of it, pushing against the >>hood. get off the sidewalk, get on the. >>the plainclothes agents, with assistance from the fbi, pushed the demonstrators away as they tried clearing the road, with some small scuffles breaking out. at one point, the woman in the pink hat who kept running back to block the van struggled with two agents ending up on the ground. after several tense minutes, the federal vehicle was able to drive away, but several agents were left behind. someone kicks a car as another protester slaps one of the agents. the five plainclothes officers start walking away, and the protesters follow, continuing
7:05 pm
to chant. officers tried getting back into the federal courthouse with the crowd trailing them. they eventually went through the front door, but some protesters tried following them inside. the doors were locked and tensions started to cool, but immigration court was closed early for the day. many of these protesters are born and raised in concord. many of them don't want to be filmed. i spoke with fabiola juarez, who has helped organize other peaceful protests in the >>city. i didn't expect that in concord. and, but there was a lot of emotions. and i agree, it is not the way, to go about it. but i will say this. the people are mad. we are mad. we're upset. we've held peaceful protesters. and at this point, the emotions are just, you know, everywhere. >>the four immigrants taken into custody include a mother of a one year old. we heard from an attorney of one man detained, who had just argued to get his client's case, continued. >>our lawyers were able to successfully, talk to the judge
7:06 pm
and convince the judge to give him another court date. and we let the ice agents know that. and yet they arrested him. anyway, this is an attempt to get people to give up their asylum claims. and it is an it's unconscionable, frankly, what's happening? >>and kevin tells us no protesters were arrested. officials also shut down proceedings at a san francisco courthouse today after protesters gathered outside the building on montgomery street. they started picketing after reports that ice agents were waiting to arrest immigrants after their hearings. advocates say at least four immigrants and as many as ten were arrested inside court. >>shaken by what they're witnessing of people's removal. it's it's not every day that you come to work and you hear people shouting for help or crying, over. they followed the rules. and this is what's happening. >>one immigration attorney says
7:07 pm
that she has never seen the courthouse shut down in this manner, but she celebrated the closure as a win for immigrants. today's protest came after a tense night in san francisco. we just learned that 92 people were arrested. it started with a rally and march in the mission, which police called overwhelmingly peaceful. but at the end of the night, two small groups broke off and vandalized property just south of civic center plaza. dozens of people were sitting on the ground surrounded by police last night. some clashed with officers as they moved in to disperse the crowd. several demonstrators were zip-tied and taken into custody in the mission district. a skechers store on the corner of 22nd and mission streets vandalized happened this morning. we saw broken windows, now boarded up or covered with plastic. mayor lurie denounced the violence on two los angeles. tensions are flaring between law enforcement and protesters. this on the fifth day. protesters are marching through downtown. they are pushing back against ice
7:08 pm
raids happening throughout the city. at one point this afternoon, demonstrators spilled onto the 101 freeway in downtown la before chp officers started pushing them back with batons. officers arrested 67 pedestrians for walking onto the highway and failing to disperse. la officials announced they're implementing a curfew for part of downtown from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.. more than 4000 national guard members are now in la, paramount and compton, in addition to 700 marines. so what exactly are these troops allowed to do as they come face to face with crowds in la? cbs news homeland security correspondent nicole sganga broke it down earlier for me today. >>they all carry around with them cards in their pockets that lay out these rules of engagement, mainly self-defense, de-escalation and minimum force. you know, in terms of dispersing some of these protests and civil disturbances that they've we've
7:09 pm
seen as far as the national guard, they do carry with them both lethal and non-lethal weapons. many of them have, you know, the weapon they're authorized to carry an m4, which is an assault rifle. they also have things like shields and batons. as for what they're there to do, the president has laid out in his memo that these troops are on the ground to help protect federal law enforcement agents. ice, cbp, as well as the federal facilities in downtown la and in the larger la county area. what they cannot do is act as domestic law enforcement. they cannot carry out arrests, either arrests, immigration arrests, or arrests for civil disturbances, or protesting or being in an area where they shouldn't be. so they're primarily there as a sort of protective barrier around federal law enforcement. >>the pentagon says deploying the marines and the national guard to la will cost at least $134 million and will last 60 days. all right. still ahead,

the san jose council votes on a controversial measure that could lead to the arrest of the homeless. we have more on tonight's outcome, and think twice before you plug in your phone for a charge at the airport. we're going to tell you about the hacking scheme that's flying under the radar. >>no rain on the radar around the bay area this evening. that's typical for the month of june, but today's temperatures were unusually cool for mid june. even the warmest locations fell short of 80 degrees. even we saw plenty of sunshine like san jose. taking a look at some ups and downs in the seven day forecast coming up in first

there's a flex alert, and team california is playing it cool. pre-cooling before 4 pm? that's cold. but can they turn it up in the fourth? fans are going crazy! another big win for team california. the power is ours. >>a major policy change on homelessness just got the green light in san jose, the city council has approved mayor matt mahan's plan to change the city code to allow police to cite and possibly arrest unhoused people who refuse multiple offers of shelter. supporters argue this would give the city the tools to meaningfully address the crisis, but critics
7:14 pm
say the policy will criminalize homelessness. we spoke with eugene blackwell, who says he's accepted temporary shelter in the past but ended up right back on the streets. >>you know, it was a hard transition. you get used to being indoors and you get used to being in this hotel room. then you know all at once, you know, you have to come back into the streets. >>the ordinance is set to go into effect july 1st, but the city says it could take 2 to 3 months before any enforcement begins. san francisco mayor daniel lurie announcing a new plan today to address issues with people living in rvs. he proposed new legislation that would limit parking on a city street for oversize vehicles to two hours, 24 hours a day. the city also plans to offer outreach to help those living in these vehicles find housing, but homeless advocates say that this may push more people onto the street. >>we're really scared for them. i mean, we've got we're working with a lot of folks living in rvs, and they are, you know, i mean, what like their biggest
7:15 pm
fear is they're going to end up out on the streets. and that is a very high likelihood with this proposal. >>lori's plan comes with a hefty price tag of $13 million that will go towards funding housing subsidies and an oversize vehicle buyback program. all right. let's get to our weather forecast in br. a little chilly out there. i'd >>call it. chilly breeze. >>call it >>br. june gloom. >>okay. that's true. yeah. >>yeah. it's pretty common for this time of year. that's the idiom. and then we go to know july and august. and then it gets. >>warm and. >>yeah, exactly >>true. >>eventually we're going to get some inland heat. it's not going to happen over the course of the next several days. let's take a look at the big picture pattern. and over the last few days we've been tracking a number of showers and thunderstorms developing in northern california. and there were some of those earlier today, even a severe thunderstorm warning for siskiyou county earlier this afternoon, but not nearly as much of that activity compared to yesterday. about 6000 lightning strikes. fortunately, yesterday, most of those lightning strikes coincided with actual rain. so any fires?
7:16 pm
we get started. first of all, the vegetation isn't that dry just yet and there is some rain to quench anything that might have gotten started. and it was all to our north so we didn't have to worry about it. all we're seeing is all of that fog, and we continue to see it as we look out from the top of the mark hopkins hotel. top of the transamerica pyramid, shrouded in fog. we can't use any of our salesforce cameras because they're definitely socked in. temperatures are in the 50s and 60s across the board. we're still more than an hour away from sunset, and already the warmest temperatures are down to the mid 60s for concord, san jose and santa rosa in the mid to upper 50s in san francisco and in oakland. temperatures will only end up a couple degrees below average by early tomorrow morning. the fog is going to be certainly a factor for the wednesday morning commute. let's take a look at that. and as it continues to spread out, it's going to make its way well into the inland valleys of the north bay and into the santa clara valley. and even some push across or around the oakland hills and into the interior valleys of the east bay. i won't take too long for this fog to back up out of inland locations by early tomorrow morning, but it will take a little bit longer over
7:17 pm
the bay and at the coast. i don't think you're going to see a whole lot of sunshine over the course of the next several days. the june gloom is going to be sticking around here. tomorrow's forecast high temperatures, and it's just the warmest spots that are going to get up to above 80 degrees, right at 80 in los gatos, 83 for morgan hill, but only 75 in san jose, mostly 70s east of the oakland hills. low 80s around antioch and brentwood. just because the fog isn't going to be as much of a factor. but at the coast, upper 50s just barely above 60 degrees in san francisco, and even for the north bay, these temperatures running about 6 or 7 degrees below normal for most north bay communities. because of that onshore breeze making its way into the north bay valleys all the way up to healdsburg, though 84 degrees for high temperature there, you'll be one of the warmer spots across the entire region. let's take a look at the hour by hour wind gusts in the wind is certainly going to be a factor. that onshore breeze helping to push the cool air far inland. some of the strongest gusts tomorrow going to be over 30 miles an hour, especially the delta breeze, and then closer to the coast, some 30 to 35 mile an hour gusts. the winds are going to be roughly the same on
7:18 pm
thursday, but maybe just a slight bit lower. some of the strongest gusts, maybe in the 25 to 30 mile an hour range instead. but still, all these factors combining to keep temperatures just a little bit below normal. we use livermore as an example for inland parts of the bay area average high. there is in the low 80s, but, you know, climb to that level until the beginning of next week. and then just a little bit of a warm up in store tuesday and wednesday when the hottest day in sight just barely cracks 90 degrees. even in livermore valley, we're doing okay for the month of june. let's take a look at the seven day forecast, and we will start inland with those temperatures reaching farther into the 80s. don't really kick in until a week from today, tuesday of next week. between now and then, it's a mix of upper 70s and low 80s, generally running at least a couple degrees below normal temperatures around the bay, also couple degrees below normal, which does let us sneak up into the mid to upper 60s. a little bit of sunshine peeking through those clouds every day, but it won't take long for the fog to spread back out every evening. more of a warm up with more sunshine by next tuesday. and at the coast, well, you might have to wait until next tuesday to see any substantial
7:19 pm
amount of sunshine, so temperatures will have to struggle to hit 60 degrees each afternoon. once we do see a bit more sunshine peeking through those coastal clouds, that's when we have a better chance of getting up into the mid 60s. by tomorrow afternoon. >>just wait by the coast, wait for that sunshine to come >>up. >>waiting. yeah. all >>right. keep waiting. and waiting. >>and waiting. thank you. up next. all right, take note. the tsa is warning summer travelers about juice jacking. what is it? and how you can avoid it. we'll explain.

of next year's fifa world cup games in the bay area. all right, the clock is ticking on a popular social media app. tiktok has just nine days to find a buyer. congress passed a bill last year to force bytedance, tiktok's chinese owner, to sell the platform to an american buyer because of national security concerns. one american businessman who submitted a bid to buy the app says that he has a 50% chance of winning the bid. >>we don't know ultimately what the trump administration is going to decide, but we do believe that they will abide by the law. the law requires the disentanglement from the chinese algorithm. we can we can do that. we don't know what china is going to do either. >>reports say president trump is considering extending tiktok's deadline for a third time, but critics warn that as long as bytedance has ownership of tiktok, user data is at risk, the company insists it does not share user data with

the chinese government. something to keep in mind big time. with summer travel now underway, the tsa is about and warning about public charging stations at airports. that could put your personal information at risk. it's called juice jacking. yeah, it involves hackers installing malware to airport usb ports. so when you plug in for a charge, they may be able to export passwords, bank information, and any other personal information from your phone. so what can we do to protect ourselves against juice jacking? earlier today, i talked with tech reporter yasmin koren and she showed me a simple way. >>i brought this along. this is a usb cable. a lot of us use this. this is historically a data sharing interface, so you never want to plug it in using just this. you want to use the block, the charging block. so use the charging block, plug it in into a wall outlet. those can never be hacked. you are fine if you use the charging block and you plug it into an
7:25 pm
electrical outlet in the wall. if you have to use a usb drive, you know, for whatever usb cord for whatever reason, make sure that you click no when it says share information. >>all right. yasmin karim says another thing to watch out for is wi-fi jacking. lovely. that's when hackers try to mimic public wi-fi networks with their own hot spots. just unplug. how about that? up next, we're checking back on the anti ice prote
