[giggling] live, this is kron 4 news at 11:00. he is a giant in the tech world and the man who created one of the world's most revered companies. steve jobs is stepping down from apple. he will be replaced. kron 4's reggie kumar is here to talk about the major change.

>> reporter: steve jobs submitted his resignation today. he said he can no longer handle the job. >> reporter: stunk stunk will still play an important role. while stepping down steve jobs suggested tim cook should be the new ceo and the board agreed. cook joined the company in 1998 and named chief operating officer in 2007. he served as ceo in 2004 and 2009. in a letter addressed to apple jobs said, quote, i have always said if there ever came a day when i could no longer meet my duties and expectations as ceo, i would be the first to let you know. unfortunately, that day has come the resignation appears to be related to the health problems he has dealt with over the past several years. in 2004 he battled cancer and lost a lot of weight and looked

frail every since then. in 2009 he said the weight loss was caused by a hormone imbalanced and announced a six month leave of absence. his most recent work included the ipod, iphone and ipad. >> reporter: after his announcement today apple stocks fell over 5%. when the market closed apple's value was $349 billion. we will know more tomorrow. >> very busy on the markets tomorrow. jobs has always been considered heart and sole of apple and this could mean big changes ahead. continuing our coverage, kron 4's charles clifford has more. >> he would not leave it

casually. >> reporter: rob thinks that steve jobs' stepping down as ceoinal as turning point in the company's future. >> steve jobs was the balance point in the company and now had t has been removed. lot of people left over the last 12 months anticipating this. the company has been changing quite a bit. the balance is removed, we will see a different company. >> reporter: he thinks that even though his influence will linger, his departure will be melt immediately. >> we should see a continuation of his vision in the products but that balance between how it is presented, marketed, how it is perceived by the market that will be gone. >> as for his replacement, tim cook, he is capable but has big shoes to fill. >> when you have a company so

uniquely designed for its ceo you can't toss in somebody else no matter how capable. >> charles clifford, kron 4 news. a car robbery outside of a bank turns into a shoot out. happened outside a wells fargo. they exchanged gunfire with two robbery suspects. kron 4's alejandra cerball has more. >> reporter: it was parked right here. there were two gun fights. one right here and the other behind the bank. a man is dead after police say he and another man tried to rob this armored truck. there was a gun fight. she had to undergo surgery. one of the suspects got away but later arrested at a hospital. he was injured in the shoot out. >> we are unaware of whether or not how he got to the hospital

that he went to. went to doctors hospital and treated and airlifted to another hospital. >> reporter: late arpolice officer shot and killed the other suspect who was behind the bank. during that shoot out an officer was shot in the shoulder. he has been with the force for two years and works as school resource officer and being treated for nonlife threatening injuries. the police aren't releasing any suspect information at this time. alejandra cerball kron 4 news. two earthquakes struck the east bay, both registering 3.6. the first one hit last night. a 2.3 aftershock. the second 3.6 struck this morning. both quakes were 5.5 miles

deep. water service is returned to the town. a pump failed leaving 800 without drinkable water. workers tested the flow floe today making sure the water was safe. residents should still boil water till tests come back from the lab. the investigation into the disappearance into a woman 10 years ago now ended. investigators concluded jeanine harms was murdered. the district attorney said fibers from a rug at her home were found in marvin norwood's car. the brother of the victim shot and killed him earlier this year and turned the gun on himself. jeanine harms' body was never found. cooler today in some spots. inland valleys didn't notice the cool down. upper 80s and low 90s.

thursday with winds at 131 miles per hour. it's expected to hit the east coast between north carolina and new york. even if the eye remains off shore it could cause flooding and power outages. hurricane irene is passing through the bahamas after causing flooding in porto reek moch. the usgs recorded a aftershock in virginia and the national's capital. yesterday's earthquake that hit the east coast left significant contraction in the washington monument. it was discovered near the top of the structure during a helicopter inspection. it is now closed while engineers determine the best way to fix it. charges have been filed against two men in connection with the biggest wile fire in arizona's history. the two are accused of leaving a camp fire unattended.
