(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now.a man slams his car into a san jose walmart. and then attacks customers with a pipe. this happened on sunday. four *people were hurt in the mayhem, including one victim who remains in the hospital with serious injuries tonight. here's the man who police say is to blame. he is 31- year-old haamid zaid, of seaside. he has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest. and hit and run. police suspect zaid was under the influence of drugs, but did not disclose anything else about a possible motive for what happened.

the busy walmart on story road. re-opened this morning with sheets of plywood covering the doors and windows which shattered. when zaid allegedly crashed his car into the entrance. police say, the suspect first rammed into two cars in the parking lot, before heading for the front doors, which were blocked by several concrete- filled posts. the chaotic scene was captured in this cell-phone video which was posted on you tube. kron 4 spoke with one victim of the attack. she describes the ordeal. eventually, walmart employees, with the help of some customers, tackled the suspect and held him until police arrived. president barack obama will

two fundraisers in san francisco. the first is a reception at the home of democratic fundraiser tom steyer and then president will attend a $32,500 a plate dinner at the home of billionaire philanthropists ann and gordon getty. both events are fundraisers for the democratic congressional campaign committee. presumably with the goal of filling the coffers of the democratic party in preparation for the congressional midterm elections in 2014. obama will then spend the night here in the bay area and attend two more fundraisers for the democratic national committee on thursday in atherton. his first stop will be brunch at the home of liz simons and mark heising, with tickets costing $32,400. and then his last stop will be lunch at the home of

marcia and john goldman. tickets for that event start at $1000. the president will then head to back to the airport, where air force one is scheduled to depart on thursday afternoon. this will be obama's first visit to the bay since winning re-election last fall in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. the powerball lottery is coming to california.and bay area stores are gearing up for the crowds. kron four's alecia reid tells us when you can start playing.and it what it means for one popular store. sales taxes are going up in several cities and counties across the bay area depending on where you shop you will pay an additional - point 5% up to 1 percent more. than you paid yesterday some residents in san mateo county are concerned that the board of supervisors t has not decided exactly what it will do with the extra tax money ".make much sense" later this month, san mateo county supervisors will

hold open hearings soliciting public input on the best ways to spend the new sales tax revenue which is estimated to bring in more than $60- million dollars annually. stockton is officially the largest city in the nation to file for bankruptcy. today, a federal judge accepted the city's application, even as the creditors claimed. stockton could find the money to pay its bills. attorneys for the city countered. that the city's budget and services had been cut to the bone. this case is being watched closely. stockton currently owes the california public employees retirement system. 9-hundred million dollars. a situation other cities find themselves in as well. well, well, well. growing up, we didn't have u-verse.

authorities are offering a 50- thousand dollar reward for information about the gold. stolen from the siskiyou county courthourse historical collection. police have named two bay area men in connection with the theft. the items are worth more than $1 -million. arrest warrants have been issued for 49-year-old david johnson, of el cerrito, and 51-year-old scott bailey, of el sobrante. police say, the two broke into the gold collection in y-reka last year. detectives say, they found additional evidence in their search for johnson and bailey. when they traveled to the bay area looking for the two suspects. coming up. what prosecutors plan to pursue. in the james holmes case.and how long the trial will be delayed. plus, a local firefighter that collapsed while battling a blaze. is back on the job. what happened.and how he was able to recover. colorado prosecutors say.they are going after the death penalty for james holmes. he is the man charged with killing a dozen people in a movie theatre last july. this is holmes at an earlier hearing -- no cameras were allowed inside court today. the prosecutor says, he talked about the penalty for holmes, with the 60 people who lost relatives in the shooting.and decided that "justice is death".

seriously. a veteran san jose firefighter, who collapsed while battling a blaze last august, is back on the job. firefighter frank ryan was treated to a 'welcome back breakfast' at station- one this morning. ryan suffered a heart attack on august 30th. as crews were gaining the upper hand on a stubborn 3- alarm fire at st. patrick's church, on east santa clara street. ryan tells kron four's rob fladeboe. he began to feel faint, and the next thing he remembers is waking up in the hospital. >> we came out side and i felt exhausted. all the sudden i felt no joi -- nauseated. and i guess within a few moments after a got some help by collapsed. up until that point i remember a lot but after that i was in an induced coma for five days. ryan received round- the-clock support from his fellow firefighters. they slept in cots at the
