near the mineta airport. a car was traveling northbound making a left turn on skyport and that that car was struck by a silver mercedes. that is the second car that struck a silver mercedes there were two women inside of that car. the injuries were so bad that she was pronounced dead on the scene. the second, was pronounced dead at the hospital. as far as the driver of the mercedes that came to the intersection he got out of the car and fled on foot. when what we are hearing is that we're not hearing any suspect information. or description. he is still missing. there

is still a tarp over the body. this skyport street is closed. right now, they continue to look for clues on who was driving this car. >> thank you >> new details are coming out this morning in the union city officer-involved shooting over the weekend. on saturday afternoon, police responded to a call of a man firing a gun outside of his house. when police got there he had already fired about 15-20 rounds in to the street but no one was hit. the commanding officer says once confronted, the man pointed the gun directly at the officers. and that's when they opened fire, killing him instantly. >> he was always nice to us, and as neighbors we always looked out for each other. so i really can't tell you what happened or why it happened. >> we did try talking to the family. they asked us to respect their privacy at this time. understandably

this is a very difficult situation. we're told the man grew up in this home, and recently moved back to stay with his father after his mother passed away. in union city a man and woman believed to be family members of the suspect were taken in for questioning. the officers involved will be placed on leave as the >> investigation continues. >> law enforcement throughout santa clara county have made hundreds of d-u-i arrests in a 15-day- period, but those arrest numbers are down from a year ago. the sweep started on august 16th and ended on saturday. 272 arrests were recorded for people driving under the influence. that number is down considerably from the same time last year when authorities made 325 arrests. >> sheriff's deputies in contra costa county are investigating a deadly shooting in rodeo. they say 36 year old chad hornsby was shot friday night in the 200 block of california street. he was found lying in the street. deputies and paramedics tried to revive hornsby but he died at the scene. so far, no suspects have been arrested. >> the u-s forest service says the rim fire could keep

>> new this morning. the taliban is claming responsibility for an attack that killed three rebels early this morning. the attack targeted a u.s. base in afghanistan near the border with pakistan. officials say the militants set off bombs, torched vehicles and shut down a key road used by nato supply trucks. >> president obama is inviting former foe john mccain to the white house to talk about syria. he's hoping one of congress' most intractable foreign policy hawks will help sell the idea of a u.s. military intervention in syria to a nation deeply scarred by more than a decade of war. having announced over the weekend that he'll seek congressional approval for military strikes against the assad regime, obama is now trying to rally support from the public and congress. >> "vodaphone" says its's in advance talks to sell its 45-percent stake of verizon wireless back to the cellphone service provider for 130-billion dollars. verizon would own its wireless business outright after buying the stake back. vodaphone says there is no be reached.

traffic school >> stanley: on the peninsula stanley roberts kron 4 news >> a coalition of bay area "occupy" groups are expected to march this afternoon in san francisco. the "occupy labor day" march will start at one in the justin herman plaza at the intersection of market street and the embarcadero. they will then march to the federal reserve building on market street. this is video from last septembers protests. when occupiers gathered peacefully to celebrate the anniversary of the occupy movement. today's demonstration marks two years of occupy. >> new information has been released in connection with the death of an infant who was exposed to drugs through his mother's milk. a report by the sacramento bee reveals social workers were required to create a safety plan for 8 month old ryder salmen. pictured here. he died last september after overdosing on a fatal mix of xanax, methadone and a painkiller. his mother has been charged with murder. the sac bee found evidence of a delay in completing the safety assessment in this case.

>> following some breaking news out of san jose. police are investigating a crash that killed two people. it happened this morning in the area of skyport drive and north first street. kron four's jackie sissel >> reporter: there have been two deaths. the suspect fled on foot after the accident. the police department saying that this car made a left turn around 3: 15 a.m. and was sideswiped by a silver mercedes. that is the silver

mercedes that hit a car. there were two women in the one that car. one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was pronounced dead at the hospital. as far as the driver of the silver mercedes fled on foot. as we stand right now they are looking for that suspect and in the local hospitals that would have sustained injuries. the car is not stolen. obviously, they are going to be going over the registration to find out who was driving that car and most importantly, why they fled. those two women who died we do not have more details. and north first street is closed, southbound and also syport near mineta

>> in daly city, a hiker is recovering this morning after being stranded in a cave. rescue crews went out on a call about a person who fell more than 100 feet down a cliff at mussel rock park early yesterday morning. but rising tides and steep terrain made it difficult for crews to find the hiker. eventually, they found the person inside a cave on the side of a cliff. the hiker was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. >> the battle against a raging wildfire near yosemite national park continues. the rim fire has now charred more than 228-thousand acres -- and is threatening thousands of homes. jason sloss has more on the firefight. >> reporter: they are trying to slow the fire's progress. some of these evacuation orders were lifted a others however, were enforced. a fire has destroyed over 100 structures. >> i do not want to lose my property. we rent but i

this is our last regularly scheduled construction update. if there is another, we will certainly let you know. all construction is wrapping up. we are not quite done yet there is still some final striping done at the tunnel. there is still some striping being done at the toll plaza and still some other work on other roadwork sign being installed with sections of the roadway. still, some barrier rails with fast track separate from other different toll plaza. when you get onto the island but other major work is complete. they are wrapping up the major replacement of the separate bicycle path. and there is some other paving repaving painting-at

the bicycle path. however, it is wrapping up but there is still some significant construction complete. it is the analogy, that when you uswalk move out of the house, you still have a lot of loose ends to tie up. at noon, we will still see what needs to be done. there will be a ceremony later today. we will still be able to determine how much. at that time will have a better understanding of what needs to be done that decision has not been made as to weather the bridge will open early. if so? what time. we will have a not information at the state of that final

sad story out of tomales bay this morning. a man drowned after he fell over the side of a boat while dumping a crab pot into the water. it happened yesterday morning. the man dropped the pot in the bay and did not realize his leg got tangled in a rope. he was pulled overboard and dragged under by the weight of the pot. the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time. rescue crews later found his body. his name isn't being released right now. in daly city, a hiker is recovering this morning after being stranded in a labor day is among the top five holidays of the year for stolen vehicles. according to data from the national insurance crime bureau in 2011,over 19- hundred cars were reported stolen on labor day last year.

>> reporter: nearly six hours after the accident these tow trucks have been removing these cars. what we can say is that around 3:15 this car was traveling north bound going north and left onto skyport however, a silver mercedes slanted to the right side of the vehicle. one of the victim's was pronounced dead. a second woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. as far as the driver of the mercedes the police say that the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot. they are also saying that the car is not stolen. they have the
