state water managers conducted their final snow survey of the season this week. and the news is bleak. to say the least. kron 4's charles clifford has details. on thursday morning, just off highway 50, not far from lake tahoe, a snow survey team with the california department of water resources found 0 inches of snow at phillips station. a month ago, this same spot was a winter wonderland, but now these fields are dry and only small patches of fading snow linger amongst the trees. the little bit of snow that is scattered in and amongst the trees is the results of the storm last friday. prior to that that snow would not have been here either. the situation isn't much better any where else in california. in the northern sierra the snowpack is at just 7 percent of
8:45 pm
average for this time of year, it's at 24 percent in the central sierra and the southern sierra has only 18 percent. when that meager amount of snow melts, it won't be nearly enough to refill california's already depleted rivers and reservoirs. it's clearly been a very disappointing year in term of any water supply recovery coming off dry years last year and the year before. now we are very concerned of course about what might happen next season. also on thursday, the us drought monitor released an updated map of drought condition across the country. here in california, our dry conditions have remained unchanged from last week. about a quarter of the state, including five counties here in the bay area, are dealing with exceptionally dry conditions. in san francisco, charles clifford kron 4 news. more than one thousand teens crowded into mansion under construction in ontario, canada saturday night. they trashed the place before police broke up the party. calivin to has the story.
