golden gate bridge, you'll have an easy ride, and also have the buffer lane running down the middle, as they will not set up the bridge for a typical morning commute, as this is a holele day. james, good morning. >> good morning. protests seem to have calmed down in ferguson, missouri. tensions are still high between officials and protesters, however. take a look. >> reporter: even with protesters at times shouting onsen advertise at police and national guard troops holding a line in ferguson, missouri, it's calmer here than it has been in the last several days, tense, but calmer, after an announcement that a grand jury found no probable cause to indict a police on criminal charges in the shooting of an unarmed teenager. business own verse also asked why the national guard and some 500 police officers weren't able to protect their stores. >> officers were overwhelmed by

the passion of the people who were out in ferguson, but, also, the tremendous amount of gunfire that at many times forced them to retreat. >> reporter: earlier wednesday, police arrest lead to people after a group of gallon straighters stormed st. louis city hall shouting shame, shame. protests have also spread overseas. a group of people in london, england, joined in familiar demonstrations, raising their hands in the air. the majority protests wednesday seemed peaceful, people marching, chanting, and calling for justice. i'm andrew spencer reporting. the unrest continues in oakland following the grand jury's decision. we have video to share with you from our helicopter. protests are were ignited

across the country. people started gathers here at 7:00 last night. demonstrations were peaceful for about two hours, but then some protesters broke off through the crowd and started run it will through the streets, clashing with police. protesters were seen starting small fires on the streets. >> was one the middle of the street. another was started inside a dumpster that protesters then rolled along with them as they marched. people were also seen vandalizing businesses again. the oakland tribune building was vandalized, as protesters smashed windows as they passed by that building. there was a much more visible police presence on the streets last night, as officers tried to keep crowds under control. observe land police again called in additional help from other law enforcement agencies. law enforcement agencies focused on keeping protesters off the freeways.

we have video from tuesday night. at one point, you may recall, protesters shut down both direction of 580. >> as soon as the pedestrian gets on to the freeway, we have the obvious risk of them being struck bay vehicle. >> reporter: any way to prevent people from getting on the freeway in the first place, especially when you know that you're going to have these protests? any way to stop it from happening to begin with if? >> that's a difficult question to answer. with enough people, anything is possible. if you can line officers up and down every freeway, then you know that no one is going to get on it. with the resources we have, we have to make sure we can be as efficient as possible. >> officers have said they'll arrest anyone who jumps on to the freeway. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, these people aren't looking for a turkey

still underway this morning. tons of floats. tons of marching bands and high school bands and the radio city rockettes, looking forward to seeing them perform, as well. so that's going on as we unofficially welcome the holiday season here with christmas around the corner. there's thanksgiving that we have to enjoy first. a lot of food on the plates for today, and a lot of people traveling, and thousands of those travelers are very thankful today that their trip to the oakland airport was a lot easier than it could have been. there's that new bart connector, of course, in play, and we talked to some of those passengers who took it for a spin. >> it's fun. like a roller coaster. >> reporter: fun is a good description of the 8-minute ride from the coliseum bart station to the airport. the view is quite nice on the way in. >> i was taking pictures. they're going to be on my

perfect weather if you're heading to grandma's house. take a look at what happens by 3:00 in the afternoon. for those in the south pay, livermore at 71, upper 60s today in oakland, 67 in san rafael. high pressure is still in control over the area. that means we're not seeing any wet weather, that's sticking well to the north. this ridge will start to push east, and that will allow rain to drop into our area.

>> when these storms are all said and done, we could see up to five inch offers rain. santa cruz mountains could get up to 8 inches. two and a half for those in the east bay. so wet weather really saturday into sunday, wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour. we could catch a dry break on monday, but wet weather certainly in the forecast as we head into the middle of next week, and we could see some localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas where drainage is a problem. let's check on the roads with george. >> it's a light and easy ride wherever you're heading this morning. we're not track any incidentors seeing any delays. take a look at the bay bridge where the westbound ride is as light as it gets. the san san mateo bridge and highway 92 an actual good ride here. no problems on the approach or getting off the bridge whether

if you're waking up this morning and getting ready for the deep fryer, if you're going to do that to the turkeys, experts are telling you now go safe. here is video of what can go wrong. watch out for letting the oil in that fryer get too hot. if that happens, it can ignite, causing fires like you see here. and simply putting the lid on it won't stop that fire, and the flames could become dangerous, as well, so just be careful, obviously read the instructions. a popular belief that found in turkey is to be blamed for post-feast naps. actually chicken have more of this quality to them than turkey do. doctors just say you need to slow counsel and let your body digest. your body just likes to shutdown and rest while it

there, but nothing to consider yourself with. perfect weather for the thanksgiving holiday. we'll see similar conditions into tomorrow, but wet weather arrives as we head into the weekend. here is george. >> we are here to be tracking any traffic issues that might pop up on this holiday thursday, and fortunately things are clearing out. the bridges look great, and so do the freeways. no backups or are delays here, and none for the san mateo bridge either. it's a pretty good commute. i should even use the word commute. it's a pretty good drive in both directions here with light traffic eastbound and westbound with no problems at 101 or 880. you'll still find a very good ride here. currently no traffic getting through in the southbound direction, just because it's so light.

here hours ago chopping up turkeys and vegetables to get ready for that dinner. they say they have over 200 turkeys, and over 150 hams that they'll be serving over 5,000 people they expect for the dinner tonight. now, this is a tradition that's been going on for over 40 years. the pass for of the church -- pastor of the church said it's a program that he will take forever. he wants to feed the people who can't feed themselves on thanksgiving. today's din her start at 10:00. it's actually more of a lunch. 10:00 this morning, and go until 1:30 this afternoon, and then later they say they'll have some sandwiches. they say they're going to have over 500 volunteers that will show up throughout the day. they're always looking for volunteers and donations. they say that as soon as thanksgiving dinner is put away, they start thinking about christmas. so if you're somebody who didn't get a chance to volunteer today, and you really want to help out a great cause,

they say there is all kind offerings things that you can do to help out for christmas that's coming up obviously around the corner. but for today, it's thanksgiving dinner for all of these people helping out. it's a great day for them and the people who really need it, james. we come out here every year and it never gets old. >> jackie, thank you, and we'll be visiting with jackie a little bit later on, as well. well, several other community organizations in san francisco are opening their doors to people looking for warm meal today. we have st. anthony's who will be serving a turkey dinner with all of the trimmings. it's happening at 10:00 in the morning in the new st. anthony's dining room. about 4,000 people expected to show up there. salvation army also doing its meals on wheels, volunteers will be delivering thanksgiving meals to people across the city throughout the day. and tens of thousands of runners are set to jump start their thanksgiving by going for a run first in turkey trots all over the bay area.

were fired within that group of trapped cars, and there were report that is at pedestrian may have been injured. look at all of the cars there. a van tried to escape at one point, crashing through a fence, but it got stuck on some nearby tracks, but then someone set their car on fire. firefighters couldn't get to that burning car because there were so many other cars in the way, so that happened on the streets of oakland last night. a bunch of bikers in l.a. go wild police give chase. >> reporter: crazy. s a is a nine. pack of motorcyclists taunting a police car giving chase. doing stunts, but not just doing wheelies, but doing wheelies right next to the police car. this brazen six-minute video

was posted on youtube that shows bikers in los angeles driving on the wrong side of the road, running red lights before a police car tries to cut them off. now it's hard to tell who is chasing whom. more than often than not, it's the police car that seems surrounded. there's even a police chop arer with a spotlight giving -- chopper are with a spotlight giving chase from above, which is why the bikers take cover over an overpass, and then the chopper and it's spotlight are still there, and the only accident seen on video, on of the motorcyclists wipes out. we have no idea if he was seriously hurt. at one point, one biker says to another -- [ indiscernible ]. jackets handed over to somehow make identification harder.

eventually they turned down a pedestrian workway, to come out driving without lights, turned down an alley, park in the dark in my opinion guy who posted the video said a few of the riders were caught and arrested, but most escaped. we tried to confirm that with the los angeles police, but l.a.p.d. told this were too tired up with the ferguson protests to deal with questions about this, motorcyclists gone wild, and they seem power else to do anything but let these bikers -- powerless to do anything but let these bikers fly. lots of sunshine, temperatures in the upper 60 ovechkin some low 70s for your forecast. i'll have your full forecast coming up.

pressure that is keeping us dry is going to push east and south, that opening the storm door, and we're talking about several days with consistent rain. so we're talking about a couple of soakers heading into our direction. the rain will spread southward by daybreak saturday and continue on into next week. when this is all said and done, we could see over 5 inches of rain for higher elevations in the north bay. the santa cruz mountains will get the brunt of it, coming in at 8 inches of rainfall. so you will need your umbrellas. rainy weather on tap, windy conditions. wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour saturday night into sunday. looks like we could see some localized flooding in urban areas where drainage is a problem. chance for showers will diminish as we head into about mid-day wednesday, but again, we are talk about the most rain we've seen for consecutive days for the entire calendar year, so certainly keep that in mind,

170 cities. chances were peaceful for about two hours, but then some protesters broke off from the crowd and started clashing with police. some were seen starting small fires on the street. here is an example of one right in the middle of the street. another was started in a dumpster that protesters then began rolling along with them as they marched. the oakland tribune building was also vandalized as windows were smashed as they went by that building. oakland police called on additional help from other law enforcement agencies. these protests, as they continue to go on, law enforcement agencies are focused on keeping protesters off the freeways. tuesday united knight we had

portions of entire state 580 in possession directions shut down because of protesters in this freedway. a task force has now been formed to alleviate that problem moving forward. >> we now have the obvious risk of them being stuck by a vehicle. >> reporter: any way to prevent people from getting on the freeway in the first place? especially when you know that you're going to have these protests, and you know that them getting on the freeway is a possibility, is there any way to stop it from even happening to begin with? >> that's a difficult question to answer. with enough people anything is possible, if you can line officers up and down every agree-freeway. obviously we have to make sure with the presources we have that we can be as efficient as possible. >> officers will arrest anyone who jumps on the freeway. we'll continue to follow the latest with this developing story as we move forward into the holiday weekend. investigators are investigating a deadly shooting in watsonville. police say a teenage boy was

served, and they are working hard to get that thanksgiving dinner on the table for thousands of people who need it. here is some video from earlier this morning. they expect to feed 5,000 people through the dinner today, over 500 volunteers are giving their time. they're going to be serving turkey and ham and all of the trimmings on this. they say they have over 200 turks, and over 150 hams to do it. and this is a work of love for a lot of these people. they have been doing it here at this church for almost 40 years. the reverend here just showed up. he said it's a labor of love, and they always need help. we'll be talking to him coming up. as soon as they wrap up dinner tonight, the first thing they start doing thinking about christmas. they say they need volunteers, they need donations to help out. this is what -- how they feed the people in need here in the street offers san francisco. as i i said, the din her start

thousands of travelers are still not home for the holidays, even though they left yesterday, they're stranded. drivers are trying to navigate roads in the storms. jennifer gray has more on the story. >> reporter: massive winter storm from coastal rain to inland snow battering much of the east coast and parts of the midwest on the busiest travel day of the year. frustrated travelers feeling the ripple effect of storm systems from montana to maine. >> i got on the road coming from vail, and a snowstorm and multiple accidents all over the place. >> nearly 5,000 flights delayed up to six hours on wednesday, and over 700 cancellations at some of the nation's busiest airports. >> we were notified that the flight was canceled, so we're sitting here in the airport,

the bay. not expecting any delays or problems. a quick look at the bridges tells the story. look how light we are here at the bay bridge with new delays for the westbound ride. all of the approaches look good. same is true for highway 92 and the san mateo bridge this morning, and tracking the ride to the golden gate, its problem-free here, as you would expect. not set up like a typical commute day. there is a buffer lane with two lanes in each direction, and a look at your ride to the rimmond bridge shows just how light the trip is, with no delays heading out from the richmond areas, so no problems over to the toll plaza on 580 westbound. james? >> george, thank you. today is expect supposed to be a day of thanks, but sometimes thanksgiving dinner are at the table can lead to bickering, so we is are some tips to help you avoid a squabble. millions of americans gathering at the table tonight, and

little more this year. the american farm burrow federation said the price for putting thanksgiving dinner together on the table this year to feed 10 people will cost you about $49.41, and that's 37 cents higher than last year. experts say a rise in dairy prices is the many reason, but also an uptick in the cost of sweet potatoes, too. if you are upgrading your meal to something all organic, that price could actually jump up bit more than a hundred dollars. some of these are easy arer said than done, but keep that in mind, and let us know, too, chair your thanksgiving thoughts on facebook. and if you are not preparing the meal, and you're actually just driving to somebody else's house, actually and good news. aaa says gas prices are running about 33 cents less per gallon than a year ago, so you have a little bite of a saving there is. some might say that he had an unfair advantage, but the city coroner has won the baton rouge turkey carving contest.

involved. initially the chp didn't get involved, but they did have officers there, and then at one point, they did make their presence known. cars dispersed, the chp was able to block about a hundred of those cars, a little more, in fact, and then shots were fired within that group of trapped cars, and there were reports that a pedestrian may have been injured. an fan at one point tried to sustain -- escape, jumping through a fend. so a lot going on with this one. firefighters couldn't get to that burning car because there were so many other cars jammed on the roads in their way. >> a man who was wanted in connection with at least 20 armed robberies in the bay area is behind bars this morning. the man was arrestth without end last night. police haven't released the man's name. they say they don't want to compromise the rest of the investigation, but he was wanted for robberies in san francisco and along the pen sue la. >> police say the five-year-old pacifica girl who was found

dead saturday and feared to have drowned in her bathtub appears to have drowned of natural causes. it occurred on saturday. investigators found that 5- year-old girl unresponsive and not breathe. is the girl was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. the san mateo coroner's office and the police department believe the girl died of natural causes, not of drowning. police have identified david ruenzel of oakland. he was a regular hiker at the huckleberry botanical preserve, and police think robbery was the motive in his shooting death. ruenzel was found tuesday afternoon with gunshot wounds. he died at the scene. police say they saw two men on that trail just before they heard gunshot. >> happy thanksgiving, everyone. live in the weather center, heading tout high clouds and sunshine. warm weather on the way, as we

the memorial traditional thanksgiving dinner. a video from earlier this morning. we talked about the volunteers. over 500 all in tears show up. to help them feed over 5000 people. they have been doing this for years and years. according to cecil williams of the reverend who is the spearhead of this church and this program. he has -- he said they have been doing this for over 30 years. served 5000 people and they have -- 500 -- that is a lot -- they have 200 turkeys and about 150 hams. the dinner will start it 10 am -- not more of a dinner but much more of a brunch and it will go till 1 pm. i did have a chance to talk to the reverend and as i said the founder of the memorial church in somebody that we have all seen for many years. here in san francisco. he has been feeding the homeless for many years. the question i have for him is -- although this program is terrific, the wishes that one day this program will not be

needed and he agreed. >> i wish we could alleviate having to work on thanksgiving day or christmas or whatever the case might be. to meet the needs of people. it hurts us. to have to do it. we just feel like at some time people are not finding ways to eliminate and it alleviate their suffering. i wish we could alleviate it. we will work on it. keep doing it. we are never going to give up. >> as i said volunteers showed up here at 6 am to do it and you can see they are still working hard out here. the dinner will start at 10 am and go until 1 pm today. as soon as they wrap this up -- as soon as the last turkey is carved in the last dinner is given out they will start thinking about christmas and at that point they say that is when they need more volunteers and more donations.

dozens of people detained after officers broke up a sideshow in oakland this morning. responding to the sideshow at seven than their time. it broke out after midnight it over there 200 cars were involved in the initially the chp did not get involved but officers at one point decided that it's time to break it up. when they made their appearance cars dispersed. the chp officers were able to block hundreds of them and then shots apparently were fired within that group of trapped cars. there were reports of a pedestrian possibly being it injured and avn try to escape crashing through a fence but getting stuck on the tracks. then it appeared someone set their car on fire. firefighters could not get to that burning car because there were so many other cars in their way. police in south services go now know the identity of a man suspected of trying to lure a two-year-old girl at a costco store earlier this month although they are not releasing his name just yet. here is a quick look at surveillance videos captured back on november 8. that is when this unidentified man approached the girl in an aisle at the costco on out camino

here are some big stories followed for you this morning. third day of protest in oakland last night against grand jury's decision. to charge -- not to charge i should say police officer for shooting and killing an unarmed teen and ferguson missourian protesters once again marched through the seeds -- street and started fires at one point they vandalized at tribune the building it was hectic last night. hundreds of volunteers meanwhile on the other side in san francisco at the memorial church are doing fantastic work. setting up thanksgiving meals for those in need. carving -- carving turkey and stuffing and putting together the trimmings for more than 5000 people work there serving meals until 2 pm. this year 86% of americans plan to eat turkey this thanksgiving. 45% say they will be having dinner at home. 42% will be spending the day at a relative's home and 5% say they will just go to a restaurant. after that there is the rush to
