parents are demanding change as racial tensions are on the rise in an east bay community. a meeting was held in union city last night to address the racial problems that continue to plague the new haven unified school district. parents say fights have become normal between students at james logan high school and conley- carballo high school. they are asking the school district to do something quickly to keep ( darya ) the district says last night's crowd was the largest they have had at a meeting so far. they are encouraging more students to participate and voice their concerns about safety on campus while they work to find a solution. are hearing from the woman who was punched over the weekend at a protest in berkeley. this is video of the attack... police say the man seen hitting the woman is nathan damigo ((duh-me-go)). he's a student at cal state stanislaus and people on campus say he's known to be a white supremicist. damigo ((duh-me-go)) denies that, saying he is just trying to promote "european interests." the woman he hit is a liberal activist from los angeles. here is what she had to say about violence. ( james ) this morning there are questions on why the protests were able to get out of control. the mayor of berkeley is praising the

berkeley police for the way they responded to the violence. but now people want to know why police let the protests get that far out of hand in the first place. they also want to know what's being done to prevent violence in the future. ( darya ) happening now. police are looking into the attempted rape of a jogger near sonoma. a 24-year-old woman says she was jogging along the sonoma overlook trail on sunday afternoon. she says a man yelled at her near norrbom road but she kept going. the woman says she was then suddenly pushed from behind and the attacker fell on top her, punching her several times. she was able to escape and call for help. police have not released a description of the attacker. ( darya ) a benicia high school teacher is accused of having sex with a student. police arrested 23 year old riana lane last night. the

arrest comes after an investigation at benicia high school last week that involved marijuana on campus and stolen property. police say that's when they learned the teacher was having a sexual relationship with the 17- year-old student. this morning lane is out on a 100- thousand dollar bond. ( james ) a family in san mateo county says a mountain lion came into their home and took their dog. it happened early yesterday morning near the town of pescadero, just east of highway one. this is video of the home with our helicopter partnership with a-b-c-7 news. police say a woman and her child were sleeping when the family dog started barking at the foot of the bed. a door to the backyard had been left open to let cool air into the house. the woman says when she looked up she saw what she believes was the shadow of a mountain lion making off with her dog. < det. salvador zuno: "she was very afraid. she grabbed a flashlight to look for her dog and when she looked at the

ground she saw wet paw prints. we notified out partners at the california department of fish and wildlife and they also said that something like this is very rare. very unusual.>( james ) police searched the area but have not been able to find the mountain lion or the dog. they say mountain lion sightings are common in san mateo county... and they are often seen on trails or near homes. ( james ) and here are some safety tips in case you do spot a mountain lion.. - maintain eye contact - do not approach the mountain lion - don't turn around or run away - you want to appear large and threatening - and do not corner the mountain lion (darya) happening today.. the san jose city council will vote on a series of laws meant to protect renters. activists are conducting a hunger strike in front of city hall to pressure the council to pass the laws. there

have been more than 2-thousand 'no cause' evictions in san jose since 2010. renters want the city council to adopt a 'just cause' ordinance which would provide tenants with some protection against unreasonable evictions. landlords believe that would threaten their rights as property owners and leave them with no way to evict bad tenants. (darya) the main spillway at the oroville dam has reopened. both the main and emergency spillways were significantly damaged in february when storms sent water surging down the spillway. nearly 200- thousand residents were forced to evacuate after the spillway crumbled. crews have spent the past few months removing debris and repairing the damage. authorities say the dam itself was not damaged when the spillway failed. ( james ) today marks the 111-th anniversary of the deadly 1906 earthquake in san francisco.( darya ) three thousand people died in that tragedy and this morning the city is holding several ceremonies to mark the occasion. million dollars worth of road and train projects. the vote yesterday comes after lawmakers passed the transportation bill earlier this month. that bill is projected to raise more than five-billion-dollars a year for road repairs and other transportation projects. some of those projects include a commuter train linking san jose to central valley, a new highway to university of california in merced and road projects in riverside county. ( james ) happening now.... police are looking for a third person in connection with the theft of stolen musical instruments from a high school in fairfield. here is a look at who police are looking for.... 18-year-old jonathan olea of fairfield. earlier this month, over 10-thousand dollars worth of instruments were stolen from the band room of armijo high school. police recovered some of those instruments last week, and arrested a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old. there are still numerous instruments missing, as police are still searching for jonathan olea. (darya) a southwest airlines pilot has been arrested after t-s-a screeners claim they found a loaded gun

in his carry-on bag. it happened yesterday morning in new york. 55-year-old eric gibson was supposed to fly a plane to tampa florida. t-s-a officers say they found the gun during routine screening. gibson told authorities he forgot it was in his bag. (darya)(áááboxesááá) less people are flying on united. the airline is reporting a 57 percent drop in profits. this comes a week after video was released of a passenger being dragged off a plane. the man refused to give up his seat after the airline overbooked his flight. the controversy became the center of the company's first

quarter earnings report. c-e-o oscar munoz has taken responsibility for what happened. (james) happening today... president trump is hitting the road to push a "buy american, hire american" policy. the president will travel to kenosha, wisconsin today. he will tour the headquarters of snap-on-tools-- and deliver a speech. president trump is also expected to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to implement the "buy american, hire american" rhetoric of his campaign. the order is supposed to bolster protections for certain american-made goods and calls for a review of the h-1-b visa program for skilled workers. (darya) charities that support veterans are accused of using donations for personal use. state attorney general xavier becerra has filed a lawsuit looking to recover

hundreds of thousands of dollars from the wounded warriors support group and central coast equine rescue and retirement. the lawsuit says that the family who operates the charities ran raffles to support veterans, and then used the money for travel, dining, shopping at victoria's secret, and paying off credit card debt. there is now a push to shut down the charities. (darya) a family in south carolina had a rude awakening when a nine-foot gator showed up on their porch. at first, the polston family thought someone was breaking in to their home... but they woke up easter morning to find the gator. and the family says the alligator had to do a lot of work to break in... it climbed a 15-foot staircase, broke a

if you're thinking about getting chipotle for lunch today... it's going to cost you more. (james) the restaurant says they are raising their prices by five- percent. this is the first price increase in three years.(darya) chipotle says this means a burrito could cost you 25 to 35 cents more. they are raising prices to pay for higher food and labor costs. (james) experts say the price increase might be a hurdle for chipotle as they work to recover from a huge e-coli outbreak in 2015. the price hike has already gone into effect. (james) the oldest woman in the world says the key to longevity is to not drink rum.

father of 10 -- six girls and four boys.godwin, 74, was shot and killed while walking on east 93rd street sunday afternoon. the cleveland division of police said steve stephens is wanted for aggravated murder in the shooting, which was posted on facebook.godwin-baines said the family is absolutely devastated."to the young man who murdered my daddy, i ask that you please surrender. i forgive you, and love you but most importantly, god loves you. god can heal your mind and save your soul. please!" robert godwin, jr. said the woman who stephens blamed in the facebook video is in the family's thoughts and prayers. ( darya ) a san francisco police officer is injured while trying to stop two car thieves. this was just after 4-30 yesterday morning near mission and allison streets. officers responded to a call about a stolen car. when police arrived - the driver took off. police say an officer was getting out of his partol car when the thieves crashed into his driver's side door. officers caught the driver... the other person got away. investigators say the officer suffered a minor injury and will be o-k. (darya) a man is arrested in connection with the shooting at cruisers saloon in antioch earlier this month. police have arrested christopher wilson. they say wilson shot a man at the bar on april 2nd. investigators say wilson left the bar in the eastwood plaza shopping center before they arrived. police arrested him over the weekend. the person who was shot is still recovering in the hospital

( james ) classes are getting back to normal at north park elementary school in san bernardino. it has now been more that a week since the school shooting that killed a teacher and a student. police stood guard yesterday as students and staff filed into the school. the school has been closed since april 10th-- when gunman cedric anderson walked into his estranged wife's classroom and opened fire. anderson killed his wife, an eight-year- old boy and then took his own life. (james) that's president trump's warning to north korea. this comes as vice president mike pence is putting the pressure on north korean dictator kim jon un from across the border in south korea. pence is on a 10-trip to the region, arriving in seoul just hours after north korea's failed missile test over the weekend. vice president pence said the white house will not show the same restraint of past administrations.

( darya ) new this morning... a doctor and a close friend of legendary singer prince, helped him improperly obtain prescription opioid painkillers. that is according to new court documents. police are still working to figure out how prince got the fentanyl that killed him. investigators did find strong opioid painkillers in several parts of his home. some of the bottles had the name "kirk johnson" on them. that is

introducing a new car-sharing service in oakland and berkeley.( james ) it's called "gig car share" it allows drivers to pick up a car in one place and drop it off in another, within certain areas of berkeley and oakland. drivers can park for free and drop of the car in almost any metered public or residential parking spot within those areas. that includes part of oakland international airport's parking lot.( darya ) the cost is a minimum of $2.50, and drivers can pay by the mile, hour or day. the app is being launched on april 30th. ( james ) and netflix is closing in on a major milestone. in the first quarter of 2017, the los gatos based company added five-million members around the world-- that brings its total subscriber base to just shy of 99-million users. francisco 49ers defensive lineman ray mcdonald. prosecutors say the woman who made the allegations is refusing to testify. the woman said she injured her head after slipping and falling on a pool deck at mcdonald's home back in 20-14. she accused mcdonald of carrying her inside his san jose home and assaulting her. but because she's refusing to testify, all of the charges against mcdonald have been dropped. ( darya ) a food delivery truck for a non-profit has been recovered after it was stolen over the weekend. the truck for the "white pony express" is named suzie. it's used to pick up food from restuarants and grocery stores. the company then uses the truck to take the food to other non-profits that feed the hungry in contra costa county. they deliver about 5-thousand pounds of food a day. the truck was stolen from the headquarters parking lot in pleasant hill. it was later found parked on the street in san jose. ( darya ) white pony express says they will pick up the truck later today. repairs to the door locks and damage to the ignition will

( james ) the main spillway at the oroville dam has reopened. both the main and emergency spillways were significantly damaged in february when storms sent water surging down the spillway. nearly 200- thousand residents were forced to evacuate after the spillway crumbled. crews have spent the past few months removing debris and repairing the damage. authorities say the dam itself was not damaged when the spillway failed. while trying to stop two car thieves. this was just after 4-30 yesterday morning near mission and allison streets. officers responded to a call about a stolen car. when police arrived - the driver took off. police say an officer was getting out of his partol car when the thieves crashed into his driver's side door. officers caught the driver... the other person got away. investigators say the officer suffered a minor injury and will be o-k. ( james ) in the east bay... a man is arrested in connection with the shooting at cruisers saloon in antioch earlier this month. police have arrested christopher wilson. they say wilson shot a man at the bar on april 2nd. investigators say wilson left the bar in the eastwood plaza shopping center before they arrived. police arrested him over the weekend. the person who was shot is still recovering in the hospital

( james ) classes are getting back to normal at north park elementary school in san bernardino. it has now been more that a week since the school shooting that killed a teacher and a student. police stood guard yesterday as students and staff filed into the school. the school has been closed since april 10th-- when gunman cedric anderson walked into his estranged wife's classroom and opened fire. anderson killed his wife, an eight-year- old boy and then took his own life. ( darya ) that's president trump's warning to north korea. this comes as vice president mike pence is putting the pressure on north korean dictator kim jon un from across the border in south korea. pence is on a 10-trip to the region, arriving in seoul just hours after north korea's failed missile test over the weekend. vice president pence said the white house will not show the same restraint of past administrations.

( darya ) a family in san mateo county says a mountain lion came into their home and took their dog. it happened early yesterday morning near the town of pescadero, just east of highway one. this is video of the home with our helicopter partnership with a-b-c-7 news. police say a woman and her child were sleeping when the family dog started barking at the foot of the bed. a door to the backyard had been left open to let cool air into the house. the woman says when she looked up she saw what she believes was the shadow of a mountain lion making off with her dog. < det. salvador zuno: "she was

very afraid. she grabbed a flashlight to look for her dog and when she looked at the ground she saw wet paw prints. we notified out partners at the california department of fish and wildlife and they also said that something like this is very rare. very unusual.>( darya ) police searched the area but have not been able to find the mountain lion or the dog. they say mountain lion sightings are common in san mateo county... and they are often seen on trails or near homes. near mission and allison streets. officers responded to a call about a stolen car. when police arrived - the driver took off. police say an officer was getting out of his partol car when the thieves crashed into his driver's side door. officers caught the driver... the other person got away. investigators say the officer suffered a minor injury and will be o-k. (darya) a man is arrested in connection with the shooting at cruisers saloon in antioch earlier this month. police have arrested christopher wilson. they say wilson shot a man at the bar on april 2nd. investigators say wilson left the bar in the eastwood plaza shopping center before they arrived. police arrested him over the weekend. the person who was shot is still recovering in the hospital this morning. ( darya ) a santa clara county judge has dismissed a rape charge against former san francisco 49ers defensive lineman ray mcdonald.

prosecutors say the woman who made the allegations is refusing to testify. the woman said she injured her head after slipping and falling on a pool deck at mcdonald's home back in 20-14. she accused mcdonald of carrying her inside his san jose home and assaulting her. but because she's refusing to testify, all of the charges against mcdonald have been dropped. ( darya ) a food delivery truck for a non-profit has been recovered after it was stolen over the weekend. the truck for the "white pony express" is named suzie. it's used to pick up food from restuarants and grocery stores. the company then uses the truck to take the food to other non-profits that feed the hungry in contra costa county. they deliver about 5-thousand pounds of food a day. the truck was stolen from the headquarters parking lot in pleasant hill. it was later found parked on the street in san jose. ( darya ) new this tripl introducing a new car-sharing service in oakland and berkeley. it's called "gig car share" it allows drivers to pick up a car in one place and drop it off in another, within certain areas of berkeley and oakland. drivers can park for free and drop of the car in almost any metered public or residential parking spot within those areas. that includes part of oakland international airport's parking lot. the cost is a minimum of $2.50, and drivers can pay by the mile, hour or day. the app is being launched on april 30th. ( darya ) recapping our breaking news out of cleveland. the man known as the "facebook killer" has been found dead in pennsylvania. officials say 37-year-old steve stephens shot himself. authorities say pennsylvania police got a tip that stephens was spotted this morning in a fast food restaurant parking lot. police tried to pull him over and, after a brief chase, he killed himself. stephens was wanted on a murder charge in the death of a 74-year-old retired man in cleveland on sunday. stephens posted the video of the murder on facebook.

( darya ) that murder in cleveland is the latest in a string of violent videos being posted to facebook. kron 4's tech reporter gabe slate takes a look at how facebook is trying to keep these videos out of your feed. facebook posted on their blog that this latest video of a murder of an elderly man in cleveland over the weekend has no place on their social network and goes against their policy and everything they stand for. they also laid out the timeline of when the videos were posted, flagged, and ultimately removedthey got the videos off within 3 hours of them being posted but in this connected world.. that might as well have been days right now facebook is dependent on people flagging videos like this, they review, then take action they also have thousands of people across the globe they call content monitors looking for inappropriate videos.they are working on employing artificial intelligence across the network to discover these videos and automatically remove them but that is still a work in progress. facebook said after this terrible series of events they are reviewing how things are

( darya ) a 12-year-old girl in virginia stopped a car- jacker from taking her mom's car and kidnapping her and her sister. maddie weiler was on her way to a theme park with her mom and her 7-year- old sister mollie on saturday maddie's mom stopped the car when the family saw an accident on the side of the highway. she pulled over to help and was calling 9-1-1 when she saw a man approach her van with her two girls inside. that's when maddie decided to spring into action.
