( mark ) breaking news we are following this morning... two explosions at a chemical plant near houston. the plant in crosby, texas lost power because of flooding from harvey. now people in the area are being told to evacuate. this is new video of the plant after the explosion. the flooding also caused the plant to lose their backup generators. they say that caused the chemicals at the plant to get hot which led to the explosions. no body was hurt but 10 sheriff's deputies went to the hospital as a precaution. (darya) and this morning rescue crews in houston are still trying to reach people in need.( mark ) the death toll is now at 37. omar jimenez is in richmond, texas this morning with the latest. southeast texas in survival mode this morning.many losing their water supply as they deal with rising waters. in

texas: the worst is not yet over for southeast texas as far as the rain is concerned. in houston thousands spent the night in shelters but many there are still in need of rescue.no name given/ evacuee: they said water was rising time to go, so that's what we did. vice president mike pence visits the storm-ravaged region today... and will make stops in and around corpus christi.vice president mike pence/white sulphur springs, wv/wednesday: 'their courage and devotion has saved countless lives' and it represents the best of america."and today fema along with firefighters will be assessing the full extend of harvey's destruction in southwest houston.it's a city that fema says they anticipate being in for years. in richmond texas, i'm omar jimenez. (darya) people in the bay area continue to work together to send hurricane harvey victims the items they need most. a store in san francisco is donating clothes and shoes. and one of its employees happens to be from houston. michael perez has lived in the bay area for six years but most of his family is still in texas including his mom.

( mark ) a sacramento sheriff's deputy is killed and two c-h-p officers are wounded in a shootout with a gunman. the suspected gunman is from the bay area. the shooting happened yesterday at a ramada inn in sacramento. police say they saw two women get into a stolen car. officers arrested the two women and then went to serve a search warrant at a room at the hotel. when officers

knocked on the door - they were ambushed. someone started shooting through the door - hitting two c-h-p officers. sacramento sheriff's deputies then got into a shootout with the gunman... who had moved to the room's balcony. he was using a high-powered rifle. that's when sheriff's deputy bob french was hit - and he died on the way to the hospital.

wells fargo.( mark ) wells fargo just making the announcement. tiffany mcelroy is here with the details. tiffany. ( tiffany ) wells fargo announcing that 3-point-5 million customers were impacted by the scandal.that is up from the two million that the bank originally estimated. in september of last year it was revealed that wells fargo employees opened millions of accounts without getting customers' permission. after the scandal was revealed... the bank said it would look for fake accounts dating all the way back to 2009. wells fargo plans to pay the affected customers an additional 2-point-8 million dollars. the bank also found that more than half a million customers were signed up for online bill paying services without their permission. the bank will pay those customers nearly a million dollars in refunds. wells fargo is blaming unrealistic sales goals placed on employees for encouraging the unauthorized bill pay and bank account openings. wells fargo has also been

accused in a recent lawsuit of ripping off vulnerable mom-and-pop businesses on credit card fees -- an allegation that the bank has denied. back to you. (mark) happening now... a wildfire burning in butte county near lake oroville continues to burn out of control. the ponderosa fire has now burned 35-hundred acres. it is only 10- percent contained this morning. more evacuations have been ordered and now police have arrested a man accused of starting the fire. investigators say the fire started on tuesday afternoon when a campfire got out of control. they say the campfire was set outside of the designated campground. they have arrested a man from oroville for starting that illegal campfire. 10 homes have been destroyed and more than a thousand other buildings are still threatened (mark) police say a body found along a south bay freeway was the victim of a hit-and-run. the man's body was spotted yesterday morning along the capitol expressway between senter road and mclaughlin avenue in san jose. police have not released the man's name and they are still looking for the

driver of the car that hit him. san jose police say this is the 13th pedestrian fatality of the year. (darya) happening now... police looking for a woman who stabbed a man at a senior housing complex in the north bay. police say unique lashonda gaimes was last seen at the el cerrito bart station. she is accused of stabbing a 66-year-old man in san rafael. police say he was stabbed multiple times in the face, neck and head. police say gaimes has known the victim for about 5 years. kron 4 spoke to a neighbor who saw the victim after the attack: (darya) police say gaimes took a bus to get out of the area after the stabbing. she was last seen at the del norte-el cerrito bart station tuesday morning. ( mark ) the cities of santa clara and san francisco are asking a federal judge to permanently block president trump's sanctuary city policy. the cities filed the requests yesterday asking the

judge to declare the president's executive order on sanctuary cities unconstitution al. the president's order threatened to deny federal money to sanctuary cities like san francisco. the judge is expected to hold a hearing on the issue in october. recovery, it's going to take months if not years..."in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news (darya) thousands of dollars is stolen from a 7-11 store manager in palo alto and this morning the thieves are still on the loose. the manager had just left the store and was headed to the bank to make that day's deposit. but on her way to the bank she was rear-ended. the woman got out of her car and a man yanked her phone out of her hand. he grabbed the bank deposit bag off her front seat...and took off. the car was driven by a second person. police say the thieves had cased the convenient store earlier that day. the men was caught on surveillance cameras. here is his picture. they also got a picture of the car. they say the two were in a silver sedan with a yellow paper plate. (mark) richmond police say seven gang members have been arrested after an 18 month investigation into a bay area crime spree. the gang called "swerve team"... is being linked with three murders and 14 attempted murders. they are also connected with an armed home invasion, several armed robberies, burglaries and even car jackings. (mark) police are still looking for one gang member whom they've identified as cardell waters. each of the seven suspects currently in custody are being held on 24 million dollars bail. ( mark ) another big story we are following this morning... starting this weekend there will be several closures on the bay bridge and they could cause a traffic nightmare.(darya) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live with the details. the work will cause traffic delays on the bay bridge on saturday between 10am and 12pm... if you don't plan ahead you will get stuck waiting. thirteen concrete islands will be destroyed in a series of implosions over six weekend days. those implosions start this saturday and will continue through november.

begining on sept. 2, caltrans will close the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge for 30 minutes as they implode an underwater pier. the closure will happen sometime between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there is no set time for the closures. caltrans says it will depend on the conditions of the bay. this will happen every other saturday until nov. 11 as they implode 13 underwater piers. if weather conditions or wandering wildlife get in the way the implosions could be pushed to the immediately following sundays, or mondays.

california are fighting to end the state's housing crisis. 11 mayors of the state's largest cities are urging lawmakers to negotiate a package of housing bills to tackle the problem. those bills include a four-billion dollar housing bond. the mayor of los angeles says the housing shortage is the biggest problem his city faces. he wants the housing package to give cities more power to address the crisis and to subsidize more housing for low-income people. mayor ed lee posted some photos on his twitter page saying that he was standing with lawmakers in california to push for more affordable housing. you can see oakland mayor libby schaaf and san jose mayor sam liccardo in the photo... the vote on the proposal could come as soon as tomorrow. (mark) police say a body found along a south bay freeway was the victim of a hit-and-run. the man's body was spotted yesterday morning along the capitol expressway between senter road and mclaughlin avenue in san jose. police have not released the man's name and they are still looking for the driver of the car that hit him. san jose police say this is the 13th pedestrian fatality of the year.

( mark ) another big story we are following this morning... starting this weekend there will be several closures on the bay bridge and they could cause a traffic nightmare.(darya) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live with the details. the work will cause traffic delays on the bay bridge on saturday between 10am and 12pm... if you don't plan ahead you will get stuck waiting. thirteen concrete islands will be destroyed in a series of implosions over six weekend days. those implosions start this saturday and will continue through november. begining on sept. 2, caltrans will close the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge for 30 minutes as they implode an underwater pier. the closure will happen sometime between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there is no set time for the closures. caltrans says it will depend on the conditions of the bay. this will happen every other saturday until nov. 11 as they implode 13 underwater piers. if weather conditions or wandering wildlife get in the

leaders in california are fighting to end the state's housing crisis. 11 mayors of the state's largest cities are urging lawmakers to negotiate a package of housing bills to tackle the problem. those bills include a four- billion dollar housing bond. the mayor of los angeles says he wants the housing package to give cities more power to address the crisis and to subsidize more housing for low-income people. mayor ed lee posted some photos on his twitter page. he says he stands with lawmakers... pushing for more affordable housing. you can see oakland mayor libby schaaf and san jose mayor sam liccardo in the photo. the vote on the proposal could come as soon as tomorrow. start the morning today with the main areas of clouds over monterey bay and the salinas valley. temperatures are running close to where we were this time yesterday. a significant warming trend is forecast to begin today and continue into the upcoming weekend with oppressive heat likely for interior and higher elevation locations, especially on friday and saturday. very warm conditions may also develop all the way to the coast on friday and saturday. highs will likely be in the mid 90s to 105 with 60s and 70s at the coast. the rest of the inland areas will be in the 80s to lower 90s.

( mark ) another big story we are following this morning... starting this weekend there will be several closures on the bay bridge and they could cause a traffic nightmare.(darya) kron 4's lydia pantazes is live with the details. the work will cause traffic delays on the bay bridge on saturday between 10am and 12pm... if you don't plan ahead you will get stuck waiting. thirteen concrete islands will be destroyed in a series of implosions over six weekend days. those implosions start this saturday and will continue through november. begining on sept. 2, caltrans will close the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge for 30 minutes as they implode an underwater pier. the closure will happen sometime between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there is no set time for the closures. caltrans says it will depend on the conditions of the bay. this will

happen every other saturday until nov. 11 as they implode 13 underwater piers. if weather conditions or wandering wildlife get in the way the implosions could be pushed to the immediately following sundays, or mondays. the bicycle and the pedestrian path will also be closed during these implosions. these closures will last all day. reporting live in oakland, lydia pantazes kron4 news. (mark) breaking news we are following this morning... two explosions at a chemical plant near houston.(darya) the plant in crosby, texas lost power because of flooding from harvey. tiffany mcelroy is here with the details. (tiffany) the operator of that plant now says that there are up to 8 more containers that could explode. right now people in the area are being told to evacuate. this is video of the chemical plant after this morning's explosion.the flooded facility lost power and backup generators because of the hurricane, leaving it without refrigeration which caused the chemicals at the plant to get hot leading to the explosions. no body was hurt but 10 sheriff's deputies went to the hospital as a precaution. (tiffany) and this morning rescue crews are still trying to rescue more people from the treacherous flood waters in houston and nearby cities. this comes after hurricane harvey made landfall for a

second time yesterday. parts of the cities of beaumont and port arthur were devastated by this second landfall. even a nursing home was swamped by the floodwaters and to be evacuated.
