(steve) all day we have been hearing harrowing stories of people fleeing their homes with little warning.((pam)) so many families are dealing with the unknown tonight ... they do not know what they will find whenever they are allowed to return home. kron 4's hermela aregawi has been talking with evacuees.. she is live santa rosa hermela? c(pam) as we have been
telling you... some neighborhoods of santa rosa have been completely wiped out. but there were some lucky people who do still have a home to go back to (steve)kron 4's dan kerman spoke to both groups.. he is live tonight in santa rosa (dan) that's right i was along crestview drive and it was completely wiped out sot john storck/home saved 00-10when john storck returned to kerry lane monday afternoon much of the block had been wiped out. but
miraculously his house and those of many neighbors were still standingsotmost weren't so lucky down the street on crestview drive there was complete destructionsot odin mena, jr. / house burned down 40-45with flames bearing down, families had minutes to escape around 2 in the morning sot steve dittmer/house burned down 51-57many of these families returned monday afternoon, to find nothing was left.sot111/face my reality (pam) (pam) viewers are asking
us to show where the fire is now .. but that is not clear at this hour. fire officials say, right now their priority is saving lives.... not necessarily knocking down the fire itself. (steve) that has (steve) that has some evacuees frustrated.. as we do not know the full extent of the damage yet.(pam) but kron-4s justine waldman has been
visiting many hard hit communities today. she talked with someone who lost their home.. the devastation in coffey park is beyond comprehension. most of the development is gone.homes are smoldering.cars are burnt and melted.all that is left standing are stone chimneys.kent craigie escaped the fire with his family.. nothing else.his home of 21 years is now burnt to the ground. sot it happened so fast the embers raining down we had time to just run away with nothingnats water on house a group of men tried to stop a fire from spreading, by spraying water on it.even turning a hose on the house still standing next door - trying to save it.sot i know a family lives here with kids and stopping someone from losing their stuff is kinda an important thingnats meowa rescued cat with its sniged whiskers, looked desperate to be reunited with her owner.but not all pets could make it out alivesot i could hear dogs howling crying and dying it was apocalypticcoffey park a shell of what it once was a family filled neighborhood now destroyedsot it just devastation it is sad my house is ok all of my neighbors

(steve) napa county also hit hard by this devastating firestorm. as of 9 -oclock tonight - at least 100 people have been injured in areas of the fire zone.. according to officials in napa.(pam) st. joseph health said 100 patients have been treated, most for smoke inhalation, at two of its hospitals, santa rosa memorial in santa rosa and queen of the valley medical center in napa. meantime... kron4-'s rob fladeboe got to see the destruction close up in napa..
(pam) some 68- square miles in the north bay are affected by the firestorm.. because of that, fire crews are stretched thin ... and a lot of people have been taking steps to protect their own property.. (steve) world renound vineyards are also threatened... reporter justin lum spoke with the owner of a winery who scrambled to save his vines. (steve) there are evacuation
sonoma county fairgrounds in santa rosa. and the petaluma community center. neighbors are being asked to go to the santa rosa veterans memorial hall. sonoma valley high school is open as well. evacuees are being asked to go to the napa valley college gym. two evacuation centers are open in the city of sebastopol ... one at the sebastopol community cultural center and another at analy high school. and the cloverdale citrus fairgrounds is open as a center as well. in fairfield, an evacuation center is open at the solano community college parking lot ... elsie allen high school in santa rosa opened its doors. people with small pets can take them to the napa county animal shelter in napa. there is also a shelter open at hessel church in sebastopol. shelters have opened up at cook middle school in santa rosa. the healdsburg community center in healdsburg is open as an evacuation center as well. there are many more shelters... to see the complete list head to our website at kron4.com steve, pam back to you.
(pam ) people in the north bay have been without power all day... right now... 99-thousand customers remain without customers remain without power tonight ... and the majority of them are in sonoma and napa counties. as a precaution... p-g-&-e has turned off gas service to approximately 26-thousand customers in santa rosa, yountville, and kenwood. additionally, additionally, another four- thousand customers in the willits to calpella area had their gas lines shut off as well. once p-g-and -e receives the go -ahead from cal-fire, p-g&e will turn the power back on.... crews want to remind people in the area to not touch any downed wires or lines... the 'canyon' two fire - as it is called- also spread quickly today.. it started this morning just after 10 oclock.... at last check.. more than 6- thousand acres have been destroyed. these are live pictures tonight.... like the wine country fires - the 'canyon' fire blew up because of strong winds....and there have been also thousands of evacuations. we watched large, expensive homes being destroyed by flames... at least 24 structures are gone. more homes are still threatened. t-v cameras showed homes burning in a hilly area known as anaheim hills... evacuations included homes, 2 schools, and the c-h-p shut down parts of the 91and 241 freeways. authorities are more specifically calling this 'canyon fire 2' -- acknowledging a huge fire in the same area last month. it's not clear yet what

from their beds in the middle of the night.(pam) these wildfires exploding overnight--- and causing devastation on bay area communities.(steve) some people have lost everything.. others do not know if their home is still standing or not.(steve) here is where we stand tonight. at least ten people are dead in this firestorm. most of those deaths right now in sonoma county with seven there two others have died in napa county. and one death in mendocino county. more than 70-thousand acres have burned the wind-driven wildfires have forced thousands to flee their homes. it has also shut down schools today. some schools are saying they will be closed tomorrow as well at least 15-hundred structures are destroyed...but that number is expected to rise. ((steve)) our team of reporters have been fanned out across the north bay talking to people who lost their homes, others who have been evacuated...((pam)) kron 4's j-r stone spoke with one man ... whose home was spared, but sadly, his neighbors lost everything.
napa all day... to show us the dozens of homes that burned to the ground. (pkg)these friends and evacuees met up in this grocery store parking lot in napa, consoling each other over fear of the unknown."we could see the blaze on the hills surrounding the highlands, both sides. both to the east and to the west."don turner worries his house is a goner, but what makes things worse is that he just doesn't know.he can't get up the hill to see.but if he did, his house might not be any better off than these."i felt blessed in that we're safe and we're healthy."the huge fire, which cal fire says will have crews fighting it for weeks, also forced edward graziani's father to evacuate."he called this morning and said, 'hey i was evacuated. can you tell me whether the house is still there?'"he hasn't been able to get a look, either, but he knows some of his dad's neighbors already lost their home."i think we're gonna lose the house. i just gotta find him. he just lost - we just lost our mom."but finding dad is hard, with no cell service, and wi-fi only at hotspots like starbucks.service providers say getting towers back up is a priority. meanwhile, cal fire has been getting help from agencies all over the state to attack the historic fire from all sides. in napa, spencer blake, kron four news.
the wildfires have meant that a lot of north bay pet owners have been dealing with the problem of what to do with their animals...(steve) tonight the rohnert park animal shelter is coming to the rescue... ( steve) if you love your pets - you know that taking care of them in the midst of a disaster is a big concern. stop and consider the huge number of people who have been evacuated.. and you know there are lots of animals who desperately need somewhere to go.. these are some of the new boarders at the rohnert park animal shelter.....where they opened hours early today....and they'll be there late tonight. they're taking in just about any small animals -- dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits..... the shelter is making room for them while their owners figure out where to find shelter...so
some of these pets could be here for awhile. (steve) it might seem like a secondary concern in the midst of disaster.....but having a safe place to put their pets -- is giving peace of mind to a lot of people. the rohnert park animal park shelter, by the way is welcoming any kind of donation...including things like dog and cat food, blankets....or cat litter. we've been showing you video all day of the homes
and businesses severely damaged or destroyed in the fire... here in video from santa rosa... you can see a mexican restaurant just gone ... destroyed ... and some pieces of the restaurant still in flames... we talked to some of the people in the area who describe what happened... as the fire broke out...

districts will be closed again on tomorrow due to the fires in napa and sonoma counties: howell mountain elementary school district, napa valley unified school district, pope valley union elementary school district and st. helena unified school district. in addition napa valley college, and the offices and programs of the napa county office of education, will also be closed tomorrow. families and staff are advised to follow public health advice regarding smoke and air quality, and to stay safe. at this time calistoga joint unified school district has not announced plans for tomorrow.
