this happened in oakland. and police tell us someone who lived in the home was killed. grant lodes is here with what we know. (grant) tonight detectives are going door to door in that neighborhood... trying to piece together clues. that murder and robbery...happening last night on carrington street between 41st and 42nd. this is in east oakland near where foothill boulevard and high street intersect. tonight carrington street is relatively quiet. there are polcie detectives going door to door...asking people what they may have seen and heard around 9:45 last night. someone called 911...and when officers showed up they found a man who lived at the home...who had been shot once. he died at the scene. there is no suspect description...and police are not saying what was stolen. it's not clear ff the house was randomly targeted. and tonight on kron4 news at nine...we hear from a neighborhood watch leader there...why he says he's stunned by what's happened.

(ken) an intense fire tonight in north beach as a tour bus catches on fire... it happened along columbus avenue shortly before 5 pm. (pam) that's where kron 4's dan kerman joins us live.. dan? they say where there's smoke there's fire and that was certainly the case wednesday afternoon in north beach your looking at cell phone video of a city tour san francisco bus choking with smoke near the driver's seat.sot maurizio florese/owner, mona lisa restaurant 13-20the driver open the door and there is a lot of smokesotand he tell the passengers to get off the bus sotand i call 911 and fire department gets here and all is good, they did a good job. witnesses say there 15 to 20 passengers aboard the bus at the time, most on the topsot

neighbors in one san jose neighborhood say they are fed up with some homeless people moving onto their street. this is on baroni avenue.(pam) a number of vans are parking there every day now.... filled with homeless people who neighbors say, are becoming a nuisance. kron4's michelle kingston visited the street today... to find out what's going on. move the case to trial. foster is still facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of an illegal assault weapon. (ken) with the legalization of recreational marijuana for adults... there is a growing concern about the effect it's having on adolscents. kron4's maureen kelly spoke with a psychologist and addiction specialist who is worried about the long term mental health effect on young people ingesting pot with supercharged levels of t-h-c. the majority of them are using cannabis at a variety of levels but the majority of

them are using cannabisdr chanda rankin is the chief clinical officer at a teen rehabilation center in the north bay . her biggest concern is that there are a lot of pot strains out there is being cultivated with much higher levels of t-h-c, the psychoactive element in the plant that gets users high. the levels of thc in cannabis today even compare to cannabis 510 years ago and massively different then the thc levels that people were smoking in the 70s and 80s. she says those elevated levels can have very serious consequences... they're taking ingesting so much more but they're getting sick they're getting nauseous they end up having psychosis or hallucinations they end up in the er they end up in the er in emergency are there passed out from primarily from cannabis maybe some other substances are mixed in there but the problem is that the thc levels are so high there causing the kids to get ill sometimes leaving them to bomb it you can choke on your own vomit the danger is real she says chronic heavy use can have a negitive impact on a teen's developing brain.if you

have a predisposition to a mental health issue and you have that much thc in your system it's a very high possibility that you can open the door to a significant mental health problem that may not have been opened at that juncture or if ever but you increase the likelihood of experiencing significant anxiety significant depression later on in life if you have used a fair amount of cannabis as an adolescent so. so in some cases the risk is immediate and the dangers immediate and another case is the risk and danger may come for the down the road further down the roadshe says we don't have enough data to know what the long term consequence of all of this adolescent cannabis use will be....but she expects we have not seen the worst of it.maureen kelly kron4 news. (pam) the man who was the target of a 9-1-1 call for

barbequing with his family at lake merritt, is now being recommended for a position with the city of oakland. councilmember rebecca kaplan is making the recommendation. she is nominating kenzie smith.... to serve on the oakland park and recreation advisory committee. this is the video from that now infamous 9-1-1 call incident. now kaplan says, it is time to take a pro- active step following the situation. meanwhile, smiths' wife talks about the woman who made the phone call to police.. she's furious - after she captured a picture that she says, shows two people blatantly using drugs in a bart elevator. neighbors in tuolumne county in the sierra foothills are on alert after a late night shooting.(pam) one neighbor says, she was surprised to learn a suspected home intruder.... was shot in her normally quiet neighborhood. police say, a homeowner heard noises late last night coming from his vacant rental property.... frightened for himself and his wife... he shot one of the suspected intruders. investigators say, the alleged intruder, bryce lawrence, is known to be homeless.... they have arrested him before for drugs, trespassing and attempted theft. lawrence's condition is unknown at this time, but his suspected accomplice is facing burglary charges. (ken) amazon's facial recognition technology is getting a lot of attention for it's possible privacy concerns. dozens of organizations are now urging c-e-o jeff bezos to prevent the government from using the technology that could identify and track people in real time. the company launched

"rekognition" back in 20-16. amazon says it can identify faces, objects and track people -- offering the online service to anyone at a low cost. but the recent decision to market the tool to police is alarming people who say it's a serious privacy concern to vulnerable communities.shankar narayan: "communities of color, immigrant communities that are subject to enforcement under this administration are additionally concerned because governments are being handed this powerful surveillance infrastructure." while it's while it's unclear just how many law enforcement agencies have purchased the service, a police analyst says they've been able to identify suspects in minutes. (pam) san francisco mayor mark farrell has announced he will include more than 4- million dollars in additional funding ..... for h-i-v and aids programs in the coming year's budget. the money will replace federal dollars which have been cut. san francisco has seen a dramatic decrease in new h-i-v infections with just 223 in 2016. that compares with a peak of 23- hundred at the height of the epidemic in 1992. still, san francisco

(ken) a tennessee family says it was shocked when swat team officers knocked down their door and threw flash bang grendades inside. and it was all a mistake.(pam) officers were actually looking for the house next door. but now, the father is calling them out for the error. the d-e-a is apologizing for bursting into the renck (rink) family home. but that is not good enough for spencer renck. the father says, one flashbang hit his son's room.

one hit him. now his son does not feel safe at night. and the family is left with a damaged home including a kicked in door. renck explained how police say, the mix up happened. have looked at hell, you could make. i mean, a mistake to make. i mean, hell, you could have looked at the mailbox.">(pam) police did arrest the murder suspect they were looking for, shortly after mistakenly raiding renck's house. renck says, authorities offered to pay for the door they kicked down, but he is not satisfied with that. (pam) humane society officials in nebraska are amazed and concerned .... about an amazing video shot by a family driving along an interstate. (ken) it shows a van driving at highway speeds up to 60 miles an hour, with a cat holding on to the

roof. (pam) it happened friday night on interstate- 480. the woman who captured this video says, she saw the van pull over before it was out of sight. (ken) and though some might think it's a feral cat, animal experts says it is likely somebody's pet. at this point, we are unsure what happened to the cat. new tonight at nine... frightening video of an apparent road rage attack. surveillance video showing a truck pulling up behind an s-u-v in a parking lot. that's when a man gets out and starts smashing the s-u-v with a sledgehammer! now, police are trying to track that man down.that story... tonight on kron 4 news at nine.

it looks like reuben foster is in the clear... a judge has ruled that san francisco 49ers linebacker reuben foster will not have to stand trial on domestic violence charges after the accuser recanted her allegations at a preliminary hearing. judge nona klippen said that prosecutors didn't meet the burden of probable cause... that the evidence against foster was insufficient foster was also charged with felony possession of an assault weapon after a rifle was found in his home by investigators... that charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. it looks like foter will rejoin the 49ers... who starting offseason activites this week... tomorrow here is a statement from team general manager john lynch (wipe to fullscreen) "the organization is aware the domestic violence charges against reuben foster were dismissed earlier today... as a result, he will have the opportunity to rejoin the team tomorrow... it has been made clear to reuben..."

the gunman...(grant) thanks for joining us, i'm grant lodes...(vicki) and i'm vicki livakis... ppolice say the victim was killed during what police are describing as a home invasion robbery. in happenedin the fruitvale neighborhood of oakland on carrington street near 41st street...(grant) kron 4's charles clifford is live for us tonight in oakland with the very latest. charles. . . well, there are still a lot of unanswered questions in this case and the investigation is still ongoing, but neighors say they are shocked by the violent nature of this attack. the oakland police departments says that just before 10 tuesday evening, officers responded to a home here in the 4100 block of carrington street on reports of a home invasion robbery.officers arriving on scene found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. paramedics were also dispatched to the home, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. his attacker had fled into the night.wednesday afternoon, investigators were going door to door along carrington asking neighbors if they knew anything about what happened. amy washburn lives along carrington. she says she saw police activity tuesday evening but didn't know it was a shooting until officers came to her door wednesday
