(pam) students feeling on edge today, after a student brought a loaded gun to school ... and police arrest the teenager in the middle of class. (pam) good evening i'm pam moore. (pam) in aptos -- several masked men entered a home on monte vista drive, and assaulted three teenagers. depues say, the teens were attacked with hammers. it happened around 1:40 - yesterday morning, while the teenages were sleeping in the garage. reports say, two of the victims were sleeping at the time of the attack. one victim, a 17year-old, is still in critical condition.

he was taken to a trauma center while the other two were treated and released. neighbors are shocked by the violence. < "...just the brutality of it was a surprise, the fact that it happened and then when you hear the details of what happened, it's pretty scary stuff..."> police say, some items were stolen. others in the aptos hills neighborhood off trout gulch road say, they have seen strange cars coming and going at all hours ... and they surmise the assault on the teenagers is somehow drug- related. "anyone see that video tape and said reasonable, has no soul, no compassion. this group on the steps of the hall of justice in san francisco strongly reacting to district attorney george gascon recent announcement - he would not seek criminal prosecution against the officers involved in the fatal confrontation with woods. he said in a news conference last week that the officers acted in self defense and they had reasonable justification to shoot woods. at the time of the incident in december 2015, woods was armed with a knife. felicia jones. "no more da got to go." now, calls for da gascon to vacate his job based on his decision. and there was tough talk from attorney john burris. he is representing woods family and another family who also has a relative fatally shot by police. there will be no prosecution in that case as well. john burris. he clearly did not have the courage, it

prescription drug abuse and narcotics overdoses have become such a problem in the city of petaluma that as of just a month ago -- all patrol officers started carrying the anti-opiod medication narcan. lieutenant ron klein says no officer has had to use it yet... a live look outside right now on this friday ... uber knows that safety is a concern for passengers recently they revised their background check policy to more frequently run checks on their driversand now they have launched two new features built into the app to help protect uber riders during an active ride. now when uber riders are in an active ride they will see a safety toolkit pop up window in the uber app. it features two safety buttons. one is called 911 assistance. it's like a panic button a quick way to reach police. when you click that your current uber ride information will be displayed for you to share with the 911 operator the make and model of the car, the license plate, and your current location stand up - eventually when you hit that 911 button in the app all that information will be automatically delivered to 911 call center you won't have to do or say anything it will be more like a secret panic button. they are testing that advanced feature in 5 cities right now they are on the east coast.. so that feature is not here yet in the bay area.. the second safety feature is called "share my ride".... if you click this

oakland tonight ... we first told you about the two german shepherd puppies who were found in terrible condition over the weekend. now we're learning a third puppy was found in the same location -- under a pile of trash at 89th and g street. this puppy, just like one of the other two found over the weekend, has a broken jaw. kron4's michelle kignston is live for us tonight in oakland and michelle, do rescuers believe these dogs might've been abused by the same person? they do -- because the injuries are so similar ... as well as the age of the puppies -- all about four months old. tom connely, rocket dog rescue "when you torture puppies, the most helpless thing you can possibly imagine, and the way he's doing it it's just horrendous."tom connely with rocket dog rescue got the call on monday from a homeless man on 89th and g street in oakland --another puppy found under the trash pile -- this one with a broken jaw.tom connely, rocket dog rescue "like somebody had taken him and just went chuh!"this is the third dog found in the same spot in oakland in less

lindsay gottlieb is upset ... when she tried to board a plane in denver sunday, a southwest airlines employee asked her to prove her bi-racial son was actually ... her son. the worker at the desk did not believe she was the mother of her child. even though gottlieb showed her son's passport, and his father was also present. the employee said, she was skeptical because gottlieb's last name is different than her son's. although, matching last names is not a requirement on domestic flights. gottlieb says, she thinks it is because his skin color is different than her childs'. she tweeted about her experience.. southwest responded to her directly ... apologized for the incident... and said, it would be used as a coaching moment. today lindsey

( ken ) downtown ellicott city, maryland is shut down, the city again looking at a massive rebuild. business owners and people who live there haven't been able get to their properties because of the damage caused by the flash flooding on sunday. this morning crews took people down to main street to asses some of the damage downtown ellicott city has been shut down because of those devastating floods as crews continue their recovery efforts at this point in time many people have not been able to see the extent of the damage to their homes and businesses a guided tour will drive people to their properties to retrieve items that they can personally carry. thiwill be the second time in almost two years people in ellicott city will

(ken) hurricane season -- off to an early start this year -- as the first named storm made landfall in florida monday... and the season doesn't officially begin until friday. sub-tropical storm alberto is being blamed for deaths of two journalists in north carolina. nick valencia reports. the southeast -- bracing for potentially life threatening flash flooding. alberto walloping the gulf coast on monday -- bringing heavy rain and strong winds. the storm's fury -- captured on video -- as this bridge in cuba was destroyed by a rising river. alberto claiming the lives of two journalists covering the storm in north carolina. news anchor mike mccormick for c-n-n affiliate w-y-f-f and photojournalist aaron smeltzer were killed monday when a tree fell on

(ken) alberto was downgraded to a depression overnight -- but the storm could still bring severe flooding to the south as it moves inland. (pam) a harvard study says, hurricane maria likely killed thousands more puerto ricans, than the original official estimate. the study was released today. researchers surveyed households on the battered island in maria's wake. they say, they found evidence to estimate that more than 46-hundred "excess deaths" occurred during the storm and in the weeks which followed. the hurricane roared through the island on september 20th... destroying buildings and knocking out power to virtually the entire u-s territory. after the storm -- authorities placed the death toll at 64. researchers say, the death

there is an increase in the use of a deadly and banned pesticide ... at illegal marijuana farms on public land in the golden state ... according to a new study. researchers and law enforcement saying today -- the pesticide is a threat to california's wildlife, its watershed -- and people. our capitol bureau reporter kody leibowitz reports.

poison game and non-game wildlife as a mechanism to protect their crops.the forest service says more federal money is on the way...something local law enforcement will help eradicte what they call a public safety issue.sheriff margaret mims, fresno county "people want to hunt, they want to hike and they're faced with armed guards in these grows..."kl sig out (ken) video from the sanger police department in fresno county shows officers rescuing two men from a vehicle that flipped upside down and landed in a canal. one of the men was stuck for 40 minutes in the submerged s-u-v, breathing from a pocket of air only about as big as his head. several officers attempted to open the door but couldn't. that's when firefighters showed up and used the jaws of life to open the door. both officers helped with a crow bar. an officer apparently heard gurgling sounds coming from inside the s-u-v and reached back in and grabbed the brother's hand. both men were rushed to the hospital to avoid hypothermia. investigators don't know yet what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

victim. how is he doing tonight? (j.r.)he was concerned about having a possible concussion but said he is feeling better and isn't going to stop working because of this thief. he had a large gash on his face where he was hit. the crook hit him there using the back of his forearm. this happened around one-thirty tuesday afternoon. the store manager told me he the man didn't pay for items and walked out of the store. just a couple steps out of the store that manager confronted him saying he wanted the stuff back. that was when the thief knocked the manager out with the back of his forearm. that manager told me he fell back and hit his head on some concrete. the man made away with...get this....salami, yogurt, some fruit rollups, and some freeze dried strawberry's. less than 20 dollars worth of merchandise. he hit the manager for that. shoppers reacted to the news today.keeps going on more and more....just not fair to the employees.20 bucks or 2 bucks it is still stealing...you don't have to go in and rob people and knock em out when you get confronted. fellow workers did get a license plate number. this man, caucasion and in his upper 20's with tatoos, jumped into a silver minivan with others inside. the manager suspects that the man might have been on meth. police tell me they have some leads but are still looking for the crook tonight. live in concord, j.r. stone kron 4 news. ra
