closed..as firefighters work to make sure the fire stays out using equipment to manipulate the ground.. and put down some barrierssteve aubert/contra costa county fire deptwhat they will do, and they'll come in and they'll take sections of land and they put the dozer and we actually push the dirt and dry grass all the way up and bring it back down to fresh dirt.we generally try to go for 30 foot firebreaks when we create those. that way when the fire does burn up to that line that's pretty much where it stops. in the high winds situation like we were discussing, that;s where it becomes a little trickier. you can make a very large firebreak but those embers will still c linemeanwhile officials are reminding peleeas don't light anything in public open spaces. don't throw your ciour vehicle and don't drive on dry grass. steve aubert/contra costa county fire depttypically we have high heat, high winds, and very low humidity. those are the perfect condition that get a fire going greatly, very large, very quick. so that's where you really need to start taking precautions. such as if you are gonna bate your

(jrstone) in the east bay... police are investigating a homicide in el sobrante. it happened last night in a parking lot near sobrante avenue and valley view road. officers arrived and found a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. that victim was later pronounced dead at the scene. his identity has not been publicly released. (jrstone) happening today -- the golden gate bridge is more expensive to cross. the toll increased by 25 cents. the hike means some drivers will pay up to 8 bucks to travel from the north bay to san francisco. there could be even more increases on the horizon. because the golden gate bridge district is facing a nearly 4- million dollar deficit this fiscal year and tolls are the main source of revenue for the district. explosion after a gas line ruptured. more rain is expected to hit the area later this week. (jrstone) in national news.... a rocket bursted into flames just seconds after liftoff and it was all caught on camera. it happened in japan yesterday. you can see the rocket take off -- but moments later it comes crashing down. luckily, there was no one on board and no injuries were reported. the rocket was developed by interstellar technologies inc. another attempt last july also failed. if successful, the launch would have been japan's first privately developed rocket to reach outer space. (jrstone) california representative maxine waters addressed the death threats she's been receiving while speaking at a "keep families together" rally in los angeles saturday. waters made it clear she is not intimidated by the threats. waters says she's been getting harassed after she called for protesters to confront trump administration officials in public over the policy of

family separation. she was forced to cancel a pair of events in alabama and texas this week after what was described as a "very serious death threat." (jrstone) a woman in florida was arrested sunday after police say she drove 15 miles down the interstate with a man on the hood. the incident apparently started after the woman behind the wheel got into an argument with her on-again-off-again boyfriend over the car that they own together. patresha isidore jumped in the vehicle, and he jumped on the hood trying to stop her. a frightening ride on interstate 95 ensued with speeds uto miles an hour.t calling 9-1-1 from the hood of the car.

a tour boat explosion in the bahamas saturday. ten people were injured. royal bahamas police force said ten tourists and two locals were on board when an engine exploded. the boat was engulfed in flames. four americans were airlifted to a hospital in florida. the others -- including the boat's captain -- were treated locally. the cause of the explosion is under investigation. (jrstone) now take a look at this -- a dust cloud all the way from the sahara desert blew into houston. the dust was so thick -- it sparked a health warning. it stretched some 5-thousand miles across two continents and the atlantic ocean. the dust cloud could cause some respiratory issues, especially for the elderly, children, and pets. this isn't that uncommon of a phenomenon. it's a seasonal cycle that can make its way to texas during the early summer months. dad shares the story of his wife leah's depression and the suicidal thoughts that recently led to her treatment at a mental health facility. "i've been trying to record this a few times," cross says in the video. "basically, i really came close to losing my wife last week." cross says on a recent date night, leah, who has dealt with depression for several years, opened up to him about her mental health struggles. "we were talking and the truth just started to spill out - how she really was doing. she was losing hope." they tried to contact her psychiatrist, but couldn't get a call back. the following day, cross realized this was an emergency. "all hope was gone - from her face, in her words," said cross. "she was already starting to plan the end... all i knew was my wife was planning her end and telling me about it, and if i didn't do anything i may not see her tomorrow." he debated what was the right thing to do, and ultimately cross helped leah check into a hospital, where she was treated for several days before being released. "she's on a new set of medications that seem to be the best fit for her," cross told today parents.
