and was driving for the e for y being discovered.pkgorlando lazo is facing 12 felonies .... accused of raping 4 women in san francisco while posing as a lyft driver. at this time the defendant is looking at life in prisonfederal immigration authorities announced vilchez lazo is a citizen of peru and in the united states illegally. yet, lazo was driving for years. according to lyft's website, safety is top priority. and the company runs extensive background checks on drivers. as a requirement, drivers undergo dmv, plus a national and county background check, which requires a social security number, in addition to an in-state drivers license that is at least a year old.so we asked lyft how lazo managed to pass their employment, criminal screening and background check?we're told

(j.r.)many folks that i talked with here were not aware of the warnings that have gone out here in discovery bay. 75 percent of the water that was tested in discovery back with dangerous levels of blue-green algae.this is what that blue green algae looks like. i came across this patch floating near the edge of the water. it's natural to have this in the water. however when it gets hot...levels of this can rise and it can you sick. at the end of june the contra costa environmental health department tested 12 different areas in discovery

bay. all of them had the blue- green algae. 9 of the 12 had dangerous levels that were toxic meaning it could get you sick or cause rashes. could also produce nerve or liver toxins. cases where people die is extremely rare but animals have died after drinking the water in those areas in some cases. last year two dogs died in the napa area. some around here are very concerned.it's scary...you don't have to see it you can smell it...every year is worse. what is going to happen the following years. the drought, low water levels, and even fertilizer used in nearby fields can all be to blame for this. as for solutions to this problem there is not one on the immediate agenda. as for the next tests to be done. the county says that they won't start testing until the weather cools down. live in discovery bay, j.r. stone kron 4 news.

(grant) new tonight at 9... the california department of public health says a baby has died from whooping cough. this is the first confirmed whooping cough death in an infant here since 20-16. officials are only saying the baby was from san bernardino. now state public health officers are urging pregnant women to get immunized, and parents should immunize their babies as soon as pediatricians recommend doing so. each year between 50 and 200 infants are hospitalized in california because of whooping cough. recently... alameda and marin counties have reported a spike in whooping cough cases. here are the symptoms you need to look out for. whooping cough typically starts with a runny nose and cough for a couple weeks. the cough will then get worse and end with a whooping sound. the symptoms are less noticeable in infants. instead of coughing... they

supervisor says it's at the top of a high priority list to be replaced. this is the sixth water main break in the last seven days in martinez.the public works department has a four-man crew tending to ten thousand water sheds in the area. the water was back to full pressure by 5 o clock tonight. a public works supervisor says they are in the tail end of a 4 million dollar water main upgrade for the year and will have to check how much funding is left for a replacement.live in martinez ella sogomonian kron 4 news. found a surpise in an item she bought at costco the other day. (vicki) it happened around two a.m. today on baker street...in the city's filmore district. there police say an unidentified man was returning home to his apartment... when two men wearing masks showed up waiving a gun. as that altercation was playing out...a woman who lives nearby walked into the trouble. she was then duct taped and placed two suspects attacked him and duct taped him and took him to apartment to safe" the crooks the crooks threatened to

the new owners, harmony communities, took over last year... and, increased his rent by more than half. they've offered him subsides to lessen what he would have to pay, but he's refused. he's proposed a smaller increase of seven-percent, and has tried to make those payments... but says the property manager has only accepted one of his checks since january. john says it's unfortunate the city of san leandro doesn't have rent control.john busch/tenant- "if it isn't, uh, made illegal or criminal, its inhumane and, uh, unconscionable anyway." corina lopez/councilmember- "i think that, uh, the displacement, um, of folks, when new owners come in and purchase properties is something that we have to be very mindful of.:" councilmember corina lopez says she intends to work with john on this issue... though it's not clear what more can be done. the property owners agreed to cancel john's debt with the mobile home park if he agreed to leave in a month... and, he admits to signing the agreement. in san leandro, philippe djegal, kron four news.

(vicki) hot and dry weather hindered firefighters battling the ferguson fire in mariposa county. tonight it has burned more than 13- thousand acres. and is just five percent contained. the flames are threatening more than 100 homes and businesses. and smoke in the area lead officials to issue a hazardous air alert. the smoke is also making it difficult for air attacks on the fire. wisconsin shows a biker falling into a bridge. you can see a woman on a bicycle maneuver past the arms-- hit one and nearly fall off her bike. she continues on--- and falls into an opening as the bridge continues to rise. the woman suffered facial injuries--- but did not fall into the water. the incident happened after fourth of july fireworks. as this department of transportation video shows, it took bystanders about 90- seconds to come to the woman's rescue(sot) "what people usually do when they're at a drawbridge, getting through with their electronic devices, and the ones that did see it probably didn't realize what was going on right at first or didn't believe it."(vicki) police say they suspect the 37 year old may have been drinking before the incident. she has since been cited for failure to obey a traffic signal (grant) new at 8. have you heard of the term dust devil? it's a weather phonemonon...and it was on

(grant) take a look at this.... the extreme heat from a wildfire in southern california created a vortex known as a firenado. it happened last saturday in the city of last saturday in the city of blythe on the california-arizona border. strong winds mixing with the rapidly rising air forms a vortex. as the firenado spun off across the colorado river, it turned colorado off across the colorado river, it turned into a water spout. the heat from the fire continued to fuel the spin of the water spout.

lawrence karnow: it was hot in the valleys today with highs in the low t0 mid 90s. fog lingered at the coast to keep temperatures much cooler there and in the 50s to low 60s. on the doppler you can see a few showers over the sierra. if you're going out tonight the fog is following the sea breeze back into the bay and along the coast. the valleys should stay mostly clear. high pressure will strengthen to bring the hottest temperatures of the week with 90s and low 100s inland tomorrow and cool 50s and 60s at the coast. monsoonal clouds will also move in late in the day to bring a slight chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms on wednesday night and thursday. cooler weather is expected this weekend before we heat up again next week. today is world emoji day. apple got a jump start a day early -- previewing some of its 70 new i-o-s emojis yesterday. it appears the suspect figured out a way to beat the system, and was driving for the rideshare company for years without being discovered. orlando lazo is facing 12 felonies .... accused of raping 4 women in san francisco while posing as a lyft driver. at this time the defendant is looking at life in prisonfederal immigration authorities announced vilchez lazo is a citizen of peru and in the united states illegally. yet, lazo was driving for years.according to lyft's website, safety is top priority. and the company runs extensive background checks on drivers.as a requirement, drivers undergo dmv, plus a national and county background check, which requires a social security number, in addition to an in-state drivers license that is at least a year old.so we asked lyft how lazo managed to pass their employment, criminal screening and background check?we're told ....individuals who drive for lyft must be eligible to work in the united states.
