(grant) we have (grant) we have team coverage tonight on this fast-moving fire... chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is tracking the conditions firefighters are faving. kron-4's dan thorn ... is live in sausalito with how the air quality is affecting the bay area. but first kron-4's alecia reid joins us live from butte county with details on the fire and evacuations. alecia? dozens of families have checked in here at the gridley fairgrounds ... paradise is wiped out and it's about to be a long road for many of the people staying at this evacuation center.they had no idea when they woke up this morning that they would be scrambling to get to safety. this is actually one of 3 evacuation centers ... there's a church in chico, and another in oroville that are taking residents in.there have also been a lot of people dropping off donations.red cross started working with partner agencies immediately after realizing the camp fire would mean tens of thousands of people displaced.right now

thousands of structures in paradise have been destroyed ...the exact amount will be determined once fire officials can get back in there ...this raging fire has burned at least 20-thousand acres ... to give you some perspective .... it's burning east of chico .... and north of oroville.there are civilians, as well as firefighters that have been injured ...we did talk to a number of people here at the gridley fairgrounds that grabbed as much as they could .... huddled with neighbors .... and managed to escape before the fire got too close.i grabbed my photo albums, medication ... and that's it you could see it on the skyline.it was about 3 or 4 stories high, and some of the flames were just going up into twisters like this, just whippingstandupthe gridley fairgrounds is also taking large animals.we saw people with their horses and dogs. it's a huge relief for many knowing their pets are safe. reporting live from butte county ... alecia reid .. kron 4 news. your time outside. a smoky and uncomfortable day across the bay area..the haze moving across the sky from the butte county fire..air quality officials have issued an advisory that runs through friday..sot: there is no current spare the air in effect because it's not a federal exceedance yet but we are monitoring it closely. as the smoke continues to move through air district spokesman walter wallace wants people to take precautions..sot: just take preventative measures limit your time outside limit your exposure outside. wallace says children and the elderly are the most vulnerable to exposure. despite some areas getting chilly at night-- wallace reccommends not burning in your fire place. sot: because by buring in your fireplaces you could increase the pm levels and we may potentially have to call a spare the air alert. the spokesman says wildfire smoke is unpredictable so please heed the warnings. he says they're monitoring for any updates and hoping things will improve reporting in marin county dan thorn kron4 news.

and you get information like that it throws you into defcon 4."jared mcvicker was awakened monday around 1- a-m by a phone call - his neighbor warning about a naked man outside his home.he said law enforcement arrived before he could take matters into his own hands ...but deputies had a hard time taking 29-year-old christopher lindner down.jared mcvicker/witness: "maced him in the face, it had no effect on him. and the guy jumped up and said 'help, i'm naked'. and then he went down on the ground and started doing lewd things to the pavement. and then he kept popping up and going at the cops and at one point tried to get into the cop car."according to the columbia county sheriff's office's report, a deputy ended up hitting lindner with a baton and took him into custody.before that, the report says, lindner ran into a couple's home - threw belongings on the floor - and dove into the bed - while they were in it!then followed the terrified couple out the home as they ran to their car.they didn't want to talk on camera but neighbors say the couple honked their horn for help because they couldn't find their cell phones.jared mcvicker/witness: "the last thing you want to do is have to hurt someone and unless they come in with evil intentions. like i said at the time i didn't think this guy had evil intentions. i just thought he was whacked out of his mind."now, folks on merrymont drive can laugh about it.the mcvickers even sending a cheeky thank you to their neighbors - aaron and lori baker. jared mcvicker/witness: "this guy really went out of his way to run out into the road in the middle of the night to keep this guy from going into my backyard probably saved the man's life."

(vicki) you may already know that being overweight comes with a slew of health issues that can shorten lives. but new research shows that being underweight increases the risk of dying early, too. b-m-i, or body mass index, is one indicator doctors use to measure a person's health. b-m-i between 21 and 25 is linked to the lowest level of morbidity. people under the recommended b-m-i are at an increased risk for dementia, alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease, and suicide. the study analyzed data from three- million people and over 360-thousand deaths. obesity was shown to reduce life 4 years for men and three and a half years for women. according to a study done at the krembil brain institute in toronto... they tested starbucks instant light roast, dark roast, and decaffeinated dark roast. they were looking for a particular compound known to make coffee bitter. the compound also supposedly prevents two protein fragments common in alzheimer's and parkinson's diseases. the researchers found dark roast coffee yields the highest quantities of the compound. they say that would seemingly make it the best pick for brain health. but researchers do admit the study does not suggest coffee is a cure. butte county has exploded to áá 20,000 áá acres. the fire burning up hundreds of homes, destroying communities ... and causing mandatory evacuations. the smoke moving south ... blanketing the bay area, and even causing ash to fall from the sky in san francisco. good evening, i'm pam moore. (ken) and i'm ken wayne. thank you for joining us tonight. (pam) the fire started near pulga road at camp creek road, near jarbo gap. first reports .... of what cal-fire is calling 'the camp fire' ... came in at six- thirty this morning. the fire exploded in size by this afternoon... threatening a number of communities. several hundred structures have already been destroyed.
