four others from car accidents. kron 4's terisa estacio has the story. gerrie kunin, mill valley resident. this is just a difficult time, my heart goes out to them. residents in this small close knit community trying to cope with a such a shocking death - authorities tell kron four news.. that it was around 8:30 wednesday night when 52 year old darren malvin came out of his home to inspect these downed power lines in the middle of the intersection. ferndale and laverne avenue... is in the unincorporated section of mill valley in marin county. a sheriff's spokesperson says malvin... shown here was talking to a neighbor in a van... when both heard a tree crack... malvin ran in front of the van to seek protection... the driver... of the van tragedy stepped on the gas to get away from the tree and hit malvin. he was taken to the hospital, but died of his injuries. bryan gould, landlord. he has been my tenant for more than a year, he and his wife, they have been building their dream home

the man killed by a falling tree in a homeless encampment has been identified. police say 42-year-old anthony rippey was killed near the ardley avenue overpass at i- 580 in oakland. officials say the tree came down during the storm wednesday night. ( darya )p-g-and-e is asking customers to be patient ... as it works to fully restore power across the bay area. the utility says it has more than 200 lineman working around the clock to turn the lights back on. p-g-and-e was able to get most of the power restored during the day yesterday. but the biggest problem right now is being able to get equipment and manpower to the more remote areas. ( james ) a cluster of earthquakes hit the east bay this week. a 3-point-5 earthquake struck the hayward fault in berkeley thursday morning. wednesday morning --- a similar quake hit near highway 24 in oakland. does this mean a bigger one is around the corner? well unfortunately, the shutdown is limiting earthquake data.

( james ) in the east bay... a 15-year-old student has been suspended after a b-b gun was reportedly found in his backpack. a school resource officer at hercules high school ... responded to a report of a disruptive student in a classroom on tuesday afternoon. the student was sent home but police say, he left his bag behind. the b-b gun was found inside the bag. the teen was suspended, and according to police there may be additional consequences. ( darya ) now to the peninsula ... where police in palo alto released a sketch of one of three suspects who robbed a pedestrian. this is the suspect sketch. the victim says, on monday night he was being followed along university avenue while heading to the transit center. he says he stopped to check his phone to let the

group pass ... when one of them grabbed his phone ... and another started kicking him. the victim described the group as being young males, between the ages of 15- and 18 -years old. ( darya ) a 17-year-old boy has been arrested for grabbing a girl's rear end while riding a bicycle. the incident happened at woodside high school monday night. according to police ... the girl was walking with a friend when the teen rode his bike between the two and grabbed her. police say, they were eventually able to identify the teen and arrest him. ( james ) san francisco police say an increase in foot patrols is helping deter violent crimes and car burglaries. their 20-18 crime report shows an 18 percent drop in homicides. an even bigger drop of 27 percent in homicide by guns. overall gun related violence sank to its lowest rate in five years. the department credits the change to new police strategies that included higher visibility of
