>> now at 3 scorching temperatures across parts of the bay area this weekend. you can see that pink shading to the right of your screen. that is the hottest part. it's the inland area which is typically the warmer parts. when we see these kind of temperature increases. thank you for joining us on kron 4 news at 3. i'm tahernia. our top story today is the excessive heat warning in effect for parts of the bay area. kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez. joining us now with a look at the current temperatures and what we can expect this weekend. risa people think it's bad today. but tomorrow may actually be worse. yeah, that's really what it's going to be the hottest for inland valleys. but we already have excessive heat warnings in effect. >> right now for our north bay and east bay valleys in addition to that heat advisories for those of you in the south bay and even for north bay valleys, widespread triple digit heat right now livermore a 103 degrees. one of the hottest cities out there as is the fairfield

triple digit weather for those of you in concord and dublin. but take a look at this unique microclimate forecast because we are tracking a deepening on shore flow pattern right throughout the san francisco peninsula coastline, even extending throughout our east bay shoreline. so we're tracking temperatures there 50's, 60's and 70's with widespread 80's 90's and triple digit heat. as you make your way inland right now pacific of 59 degrees. but we are tracking the widespread for innermost valleys with fairfield. just heating up to a 106 degrees. san jose at 85 degrees oakland and berkeley 75 degrees. so about 5 degrees above average there. but it's really are in our most hottest valleys, specifically those of you in solano county. we're going to be worried about all weekend long tracking widespread warming, upwards of 9 degrees of warming. for those of you in concord. that's why you're in the low triple digits and we have this excessive heat warnings go into effect at noon today and

it's going to remain in effect through sunday night. and the far east bay hills mountains and valleys, including the diablo range solano county. this excessive heat warning going to remain in effect for one more day expiring on monday night. but everyone else in the bay area. we're going to start to cool down by monday. so the excessive heat warnings and heat advisories in the north bay and for parts of the south bay will be allowed to expire sunday night. but it's the overnight temperatures that we really need to worry about where all of our excessive heat warnings were in place. we're only going to cool down into the 70's and 80's. so dangerous heat heading our way and it is going to be critical tonight, especially for those of you in antioch, 72 degrees for your overnight lows. everyone else in the 50's and 60's details ahead on the peak of this heat wave set to arrive by tomorrow afternoon. sun dogs. back to you. thank you. member a sound. the national weather service has released tips on

helping you stay safe during this heat wave. they include limiting stressing strenuous activities outside. >> drinking plenty of fluids, not walking your dogs on hot pavement and keeping your kids and pets safe by not leaving them inside hot cars. the national weather service is also warning about rip currents along the coast. now we continue to track the heat wave on our kron 4 app. so use your phone to scan this qr code. it will take you directly to the kron 4 app to download. you'll get the latest updates on your weather, including a look at the current conditions and a list of cooling centers around the bay area. and wildfires are burning throughout the state to this is video from the tenant fire that's burning in the claim national forest fires currently more than 90% contained. but it's kurt scorched already more than 10,000 acres. fire officials say they're worried the excessive heat combined with dry grass could lead to flare ups. and staying in northern

california. the beckworth complex fires are burning in the plumas national forest. this is near the california-nevada border. northwest of lake tahoe. there are 2 fires burning as part of the back with complex. so far they've charred more than 20,000 acres and only 11% contained. now we are tracking a number of other fires burning in the state, including the salt fire north of redding where evacuation orders are still in place. that fire is only 45% contained. lot of fire has burned close to 40 square miles at the base of mount shasta in southern california. cal fire says the tumble weed fire is now 95% contained after burning close to 900 acres. turning now to the recall election of governor gavin newsome. a judge will soon decide whether the governor can have his democratic party preference printed on the recall ballot. this comes after the secretary of state refused to allow it. ashley zavala explains what

happened in court today and how the most famous candidate to replace newsome is getting involved. >> today's hearing between the governor and secretary of state here in sacramento lasted about an hour. the judge says he wants to take the weekend to digest what he heard. attorneys representing governor gavin newsome and secretary of state shirley weber faced off in court friday. >> the court prohibited video and audio recording of the hearing newsom's attorneys tried to convince the sacramento county judge to order whether to allow the governor to have his democratic party preference printed near his name on the upcoming recall election ballot whether has refused noting he missed the deadline and she's following the law. this prompting the governor to file the lawsuit. the governor was required to include his party preference on his reply to the recall petition in february of 2021, of his lawyers who handled the paperwork admitted to the judge friday. he screwed up shortly after the hearing newsome remain tight-lipped about it at a separate event in l a. >> it's a legal proceeding and i just don't have i haven't

education budget in california history. it will provide billions of dollars to do a great many things. >> including creating tk access for all 4 year-old in the state. it will also have millions of dollars to hire and train new teachers especially in areas that are lacking. there will also be a free lunch program for all students. it creates after-school and summer school programs and it provides for the mental well-being for students, especially those students who may have suffered or fell behind during the pandemic. now the governor says he hopes that this becomes a permanent part of california's education system. this is a multi year commitment. >> it's not an episodic one off some multiyear commitment to transform public education in the state of california, even though this was just signed into law. many of the programs including universal tk access won't kick in until the 2025 26 school year. but for now in the north bay. charles clifford kron. 4 news. >> also in the north bay 47

bay valleys, even for those of you in the north bay as well. right now you're in the 80's and 90's but we're tracking widespread triple digit weather for the 1st half of the weekend. and that's when this heat wave is really going to peak and we are seeing widespread heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in effect with an additional heat advisory added earlier today. for those of you in the north bay for the santa clara valley specifically in san jose. that also remains in effect for the widespread 90's to even low triple digit heat expected for this weekend live look outside coit tower crystal clear blue skies that marine layer not even near our coastline, in fact, is just hanging tight out in the pacific. we are going to notice some of that marine layer influences. but barely it's going to be shallow at best. it is going to keep our temperatures along the coast and east bay shoreline on the mild side instead of tracking scorching heat there. so that's what ie're not seeing. any heat advisories or excessive heat warnings in those areas. but

overnight lows going to be above average. widespread upper 50's for the san francisco peninsula coastline, even through the north bay coastline as well with widespread low to mid 60's as you make your way inland. and and only cooling down into the 70's and tomorrow scorching heat continues. a 107 degrees for conquered livermore in antioch, triple digit heat from all the way into santa rosa and avato near triple digits. for those of you in san jose at 96 degrees. even the san francisco peninsula coastline in the 70's with widespread mid to upper 80's. for those of you in the east bay shoreline and we're not going to get relief from the heat until monday of this upcoming week. so sunday is going to be equally hot, slightly cooler but not going to make much of a difference. please be safe out there stay cool and stay hydrated bay area. back to you soon thanks so much for greece. uh. president joe biden says large american corporations have grown into monopoly. so today

90's. for those of you in the south bay san jose and campbell in the mid 90's for you and triple digit heat. in fact, it's going to peak on saturday. a 107 degrees for livermore and for those of you throughout the east bay shoreline 70's, 80's and yes, even 90's with richmond warming up into the low 90's walnut creek and concord a 107 degrees. so dangerous heat will continue even through your sunday as well. the triple digit weather with napa and sonoma 99 degrees. but santa rosa and avato in the low 90's by saturday afternoon. taking a look ahead at the next 7 day forecast relief won't arrive until monday for most of the bay area. but those of you in solano county, you're going to have to wait until tuesday to really feel relief from the heat. that's why you're excessive heat warning will expire monday night. but for the rest of the bay area, all the advisories and warnings will expire by sunday night shortly before midnight. back to you. soon. as thank you resign. now cal iso reminder.

they've issued a flex alert for this afternoon. the agency in charge of the state's power grid is urging people to cut back on their power usage today from 4 to 9. >> this will help relieve stress on the grid and it protects it from being overwhelmed. here are some tips to help during the flex alert. such a thermostat to 78 degrees or higher avoid using major appliances and turn off or unplug any lights that are not in use. the triple temperatures come at a time when water usage typically rises during the summer but due to the drought. governor newsom is asking all of us to reduce our water consumption by 15%. kron four's. felecia dog reports from the east bay with tips on how to save. >> on average. the east bay municipal utility district says single-family customers use about 250 gallons of water per day. that number can vary based on where you and the size of your lot. but if you can soon 250 gallons of water

on a daily basis. a 15% reduction amounts to 37 and a half gallons of water that includes water use for indoors like, you know, flushing toilets, washing hands showering. >> as well as outdoor water use a good place to start is the toilet older models can use up to 5 gallons per flush newer high efficiency toilets use about 1.2 gallons per flush by installing a high efficiency toilet. the state says a household can save 19 gallons per person each day. if there are multiple people in your home. you can achieve the 15% goal by upgrading the toilet alone keeping showers under 5 minutes go say saved 12 and a half gallons for a shower when using water efficient showerheads might actually has on devices that will mail out to folks. we raiders that you can install in your shower head that it reduces the overall flow and help to get that those avoid washing dishes by hand. if you

have a dishwasher, you can also save around 4 gallons of water per day. if you wash only loads. >> as for laundry east bay, muds, water conservation manager alice to he says by properly using load size settings reducing the number of loads by using full loads. only and replacing the standard washer with a high efficiency model, you can save up to 25 gallons of water per day. as for the outdoors, she does not recommend letting your lawn die just limit the frequency. it gets water to 3 times per week is the people, you know, watering every day when it's not actually necessary. and in fact, it's better for plants. if you are less frequently, but more deeply. lastly, check for leaks around the house. this could potentially save hundreds of gallons of water per day. >> believed it all kron 4 news. >> now we have more drought emergency resources on our website. you can access our special page by scanning this qr code you see on your screen

stay up inside if schools cannot maintain a distance of at least 3 feet between desks and the state's public health department says they are not recommending physical distancing because of the hurdles that would present to california schools fully reopening the county superintendent of schools for contra. costa is on board with the state's decision. i really do think it really highlights the importance of in-person learning. i think in person learning. >> is the best models benefits young people the most. and so this really allows for everybody to come back fully into the classroom. the principal of hercules middle school says the state's decision to keep up with the mask-wearing inside schools. >> makes things a little more simple, especially as only kids 12 and up are eligible for their shots. everybody is wearing a mask. it's easy to see who's not. and you have to worry about i know that for a lot of us were ready to have the masks off whenever and wherever possible. >> so sure that will cost some challenges to. but again, it's

just an opportunity to get students back. >> and make sure we get back to doing our our main purpose which is educating students. the parents. i talked to picking up their kids from summer school or fine with the idea of keeping the mask requirement in place of are still out there. >> now, even though june 15. came and went still don't get too comfortable because it's going to happen all over again. the california department of public health says they are continuing to review with the cdc just released. >> and says they plan to release more state guidance for k through 12 schools on monday. maureen kelly kron 4 news. >> we go to the east bay now around county is experiencing an increase in covid cases that could exceed the spring wave earlier this year. the allegheny county health department says the latest increases are likely due to reopening activity and people not wearing masks health officer nicholas moss believes the delta variant is also having an impact while some mild cases have been reported among vaccinated residents.

to help keep our state golden. >> welcome back to kron. 4 news at 3. we are tracking hot temperatures here in the bay area. this is a live look at our current temperatures. you can see the further inland. you go, the warmer it gets. and as we go into the weekend, it's only going to get warmer. and now to an update on a story we brought you yesterday montana wildlife officials have shot and killed the bear that killed a cheek, a woman earlier this week, leah lokan was pulled from her tent and killed by the bear earlier this week. now officials hunted that there by setting a

trap near a chicken coop just about 2 miles from where she was killed. lokan was an experienced outdoorsman and cyclist. and now to a heartbreaking update outside of surfside, florida. the bodies of 15 more people were discovered in the rubble. the death toll now stands at 79 with as many as 61 still unaccounted for to rescue workers are in the hostital for injuries sustained at the scene and among the confirmed dead. a 3 year-old boy and family members of pairwise first lady. the painstaking search for survivors shifted to a recovery effort. wednesday after authorities said there was, quote, no chance of life in the wreckage. >> is a live look at pismo beach coming up after the break, we'll have a live report on what you can expect. if you plan a getaway t

>> welcome back to kron. 4 news at 3. and as temperatures approach record highs this weekend here in the bay area and the central valley. some are escaping the heat and heading to the coast, which is smart because you can see the coastal temperatures are always a little cooler than when you go inland. so let's check in with our fresno station. shawna khalafi is live at his no beach pier. one of the go to destinations for lots of valley shawna. >> an odd. yeah. it is 73 and

sunny. and you can see lots of families out here enjoying this beautiful weather. many of them are from the central valley. but we talked to a few from the bay area to drove down for this weekend beach assistant city manager jorge garcia says this influx of visitors is welcome business for some restaurants and gift shops here that have been affected by the pandemic. he says about 80% of their tourist typically come from the central valley. and when the weather heats up there. that's when a wave of tourists comes here to pismo beach. >> between spring break in labor day is tra high season and partially that coincides with the so where the central valley typically has triple digit heat just becomes an escape. we traditionally see 60 to 70 degree weather here around so it's part of the reason that people gravitate to the central coast. >> one family we talked to from bakersfield told us anytime the temperature there reaches a 105. they make their way here to pismo beach to cool off and they're not the
