>> yes, you know, the county has noticed in a large increase in the demand for testing. thene are definitely seeing an increase in testing. it started around 4th of july and it's been on a steady increase since then. that is the case. even though a growing number of people are vaccinated here in the bay area. in fact, health officials say the vaccinated population are the major contributors to the rise and testing of vaccinated individuals. certainly can carry the delta variant. and it seems that they can spread it as well. so people want to know. maybe because they know somebody that contracted covid-19. and so well, i wonder, maybe i was exposed. we're really watching it very closely and we're prepared to if the demand meant and 2 at hours or site most bay area health departments say at this time they filled their available testing is sufficient to handle the current demand. they will continue to monitor the situation. one of the things that we did during the height of the pandemic is we really

recommend that everyone keep their distance and their mask during national night out because it will be a crowded outdoor setting. the city of oakland is also taking part in national night out tonight as well. police chief leronne armstrong marking the day by giving an update on crime trends across the across the town. armstrong said that when he took over as the city's top cop back in february. the department was seeing a 500% jump in violent crimes and shootings were up over 100%. he says because of an increased focused on violent crimes. both of those rates are now down to just over 50%. he says creating a violent crimes operation center has helped in their efforts. >> what that essentially did was centralized. all of our crime reduction teams under one command structure so that we could be more focused and more nimble. that has produced significant outcomes in terms of recovery of firearms the making of key arrests, particularly in violent crimes, homicides and

night, the dixie fire continuing to spread and butte and plumas counties. new evacuation orders are in effect for folks in the town of greenville, which is in plumas county. the fire has now charred through more than 253,000 acres and is said to be 35% contained. the fire remaining deal 11th largest in california state history tonight. pg e says its equipment may have sparked the fly fire which later merged with the dixie fire. the utility company says that investigators are taking a close look at a tree in plumas county with the fly fire started back on july 22nd pg and e told regulators just last month that the dixie fire may have been sparked when a tree fell on one of its power lines. >> right now at kron 4 dot com. we have some tips for fire season. you can scan the qr code on your screen using your phone and you'll be taken straight to our dedicated fire season page. all right. time

for a look at the forecast our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. >> yeah. guys tracking some of that smoke from the fires. but just been relentless in some parts of the state, the wind pattern has not changed. so that smoke is just kind of settling in these spots. and you can see it pretty well today on our satellite images taken for a closer you just get to the west of redding. we've got a couple of fires burning here up in through shasta is well and that smoke kind of settling down in those areas. and of course the dixie fire continues to burn and look at all that smoke just rolling on up in that direction. so here's somewhat of a concern, though. you see the areas shaded in red. that is an area of red flag warnings that will go effect starting tomorrow continuing into thursday expecting some southwesterly winds to kick in as we've got a trough of low pressure ahead of the state that's going to cool us down. but for them it's going to ramp up the winds. they could easily see some gusts, maybe 30 to 35 miles per hour that through wednesday and thursday. and that's not what you want to see in around an active fire. so we're watching
