7:03 am
vegas long beach, los angeles. it's going to be a busy day here at oakland airport and here at terminal 2, we're taking a live look at the check in at southwest airlines. you can see that people are here. however, the process has been very easy. it's been smooth going. people are flowing and check in and into tsa. but a spokesperson here at the airport tells me that the busiest time today is going to be between 6 to 9 this morning. so pack your patience if you're headed out to oakland airport. they expect nearly a 170,000 passengers to travel through the airport during the thanksgiving period now between today and sunday. officials say they're going to see twice as many people check for flights compared to last year. and these numbers are fairly close to what they saw before the pandemic started, but they're still covid protocols in place. employees are sanitizing their the the areas and you still need to wear your mask. once you step inside the airport and of
7:04 am
course, once you're inside the plane. but airport officials are encouraging people to get here early. as i said, everything is smooth going. but every once in a while we're seeing waves of people enter the airport and it's going to get busy at the morning. like i said, the airport officials tell me that the busiest time at oakland airport is between 8 to the 6 to 09:09am, and rayna james, i just want to point out that we are only aware southwest airlines check in is so there's a lot of other people at other places like the american airlines check in the airlines check-in. so. >> many people are checking into data, oakland airport and they're ready to get this holiday weekend. started. back to you guys. >> wow, it does look pretty out there that doesn't even include terminal one out. thank you very much. camilla. and today also a big day on the roads to that triple a expecting 48 million people going to hit the roads driving to their hot spots with

7:06 am
california. this is according to aaa now san francisco is that for 88 even the chevron was the more expensive than the average price over in san francisco, which is for 88. they yet oakland and san jose, they're not too far behind. maybe $0.10 difference. $0.8 differsnce. you have sandra fell now in los angeles. you have 4.70 was that if you're going down south, that's average. if you're going up north and readiness for 67, which is kind of surprising to me because usually when i think about driving up north. usually lot cheaper guess this is really expenses. expensive everywhere. you can see that. prices there for santa cruz in sacramento now. you know, even though president biden did announce that they're he was going to release of 50 million barrels of oil to try to help bring down the costs were not going to see that effect here for this in fact, we're not going to see it really that
7:07 am
obvious for the next several it's going to be going down little by little. but week by week in. and that's why they're saying that the prices are going to still be kind of high. but it is just an effort to try to break it down a little bit and try to help out. people by getting some of our crude oil out of our surplus and try to bring prices down. but like i said for this weekend, it's really not going to be. >> to helpful. but if you want to come so this for 99. but just across the street, there's this article and it just opened up like an hour ago. there was yellow tape around you can see a lot of cars here and that's because their regular is at 4.49 if you pay cash. >> and then for 59, if you create a with a credit card and that is a pretty big significance. even though for 49 is still high. from what we're used to in past years. still at least that is a really good chunk of savings
7:08 am
when you when you kind of added up. that's like a $0.50 a savings there compared to other prices. so. you could come out here the burlingame and try to get the 2 guests from arco and try to hit the road after that it that you can take a chance go further out and sometimes some of the smaller towns are along high. the highways. you can find a better phrase. but overall. >> the average price is going to be above $4 back to you guys. big difference just across the street. thank you very to bring one of those canisters with the is philip, i get to carry which not. >> well, if you are going to be planning on driving you're going want to leave early. that's kind of the rule of thumb. triple a says the worst times to drive in the bay area today is between 04:06pm. so avoid that window. the worst stretch of roadway for the commute is going to be eastbound 80 between the 5.80 split and dam. road aaa says traffic on that stretch of 80's going to be 300% worse
7:09 am
than it normally is. the company also says that overall the best time to drive today is after 9. so if you can push it off till then that's the best tomorrow. the worst time will be between 03:00pm, i should say, between noon and 03:00pm the best time is 11:00am or earlier friday. you're going to want to avoid any time between one 04:00pm. it's going to be bad on the roads. get out before 11. if you can. and then over the weekend the best time to hit the road is before noon so factor that in. >> all right. well, another big story we're following. police in fremont say they're stepping up police patrols at retail centers. this comes after the recent smash and grabs we've been seen at several locations at stores all across the bay area. city officials say they've been in contact with several businesses and people can expect to see more patrol cars in certain areas. now the 9 people charged in connection to a series of smash and grab robberies in san francisco could also be arraigned in court as early as today.
7:10 am
investigators say all 9 people are connected to break ins robberies at the leave that on store dispensary and a walgreens sfpd says as many as 40 people smashed windows at the lee that on store on friday night. this was one of several locations targeted that night. we've also learned that areas in the soma district also targeted friday night as well. >> we cannot we will not and we do not tolerate that kind of behavior in our city. the charges we everything from looting, grand theft burglary, possession of stolen property firearm possession commercial burglary and more. >> district attorneys from across the bay area met yesterday to discuss that that's happening across the area and whether that these in these incidents could be connected to other thefts. >> well, legal analysts say that all barry prosecutors are going to have to argue the same that these were well organized thefts that amount to felony conspiracy charges just like san francisco's dha somebody in debt. and that's
7:11 am
because there is a law in california that says anything less than $950 in value is actually treated as a misdemeanor, not a felony. >> a lot of these retail theft crews have become emboldened by it. decriminalization in our property crime laws. and i think that's why you're seeing this spring up all over the bay area because they recognize that at this point the prosecutors are a step behind them. >> and many business owners are in fact, hiring extra private security now as they call for larger police presence during the holiday shopping season. we'll see if they get that we know and san francisco, they are actually changing something in fact, limiting car traffic around union square is one way of trying to stop potential criminals from parking near their intended targets. the city's doing this every day from 7 at night until 06:00am the next morning. mayor london breed says this will change said this change could last even beyond the holiday shopping season. we'll see how it goes. we're trying to. >> look at ways in order to makes it a downtown shopping
