higher peaks between now and wednesday. we could be talking maybe a a for maybe 8 feet of snow across some of the higher peaks. that is a lot of snow and not only there. if you're planning to go by 5 toward the chefs there. if you're traveling for the holidays, be prepared. we're expecting some heavy snow in that direction as well all the way down to clear lake to. and then as we get latter part of the week. we've got some cold air coming in and that means room likely see snow at much lower levels as well. all right. as far as the snow pack is concerned we're not looking too bad we've just a little bit. 84 1% of normal now in the northern sierra nevada. 93% of normal in the central in 99% of normal in the southern sierra nevada. but again, there's a whole lot of snow on the way. here's one of the forecast models will take you through time. team through tuesday. and then as we stop things as we get towards thursday and friday. you start to see the bull's eye here. a lot of that snow falling across the sea are there in that whole area some heavy snow. that's going
6:31 pm
to be 2 to 4 feet, then we're going to see some more storms kind of rolling in all of a sudden you see that blob of light grow further and further and then by the time it's all said and done some of the models are paying as much as 14 and a half feet of snow between now. and about january 5th. so that's a significant a boost to our water supply. not only just for the skiers up there are enjoying the snow, but the water supply for the entire state. here's a cold front coming on shore. this a little bit of a warmer storm that is moving on shore right now bringing the rain around the bay area. more scattered showers continue to pop up and some heavier amounts now moving into parts are in. so do expect that throughout the night tonight, more rain, the potentially some moderate amounts of rain and a lot more to come. all right, lawrence, thank you. and you can stay with kron 4 for the latest on the stormy weather. you can scan the qr code which will take you to our website. kron 4 dot com there you will find the latest on the storm, including live radar where you live. >> air bnb has announced new year's eve reservation restrictions. it wants to prevent gas from hosting

disruptive parties over the holiday weekend. guests without a history of positive reviews on air bnb platform cannot make reservations for an entire house that may pose heighten risks for unauthorized parties. the company says it would be focusing on local reservations instead of out of towners guests will also have to make their plans a few days in advance. no last-minute bookings are allowed. >> so joining us tonight to talk about these new rules is been bright. i'm sorry. with air bnb. ben, thank you for being with us. so give us a sense. we the general sense of what led to this policy would give us an overall. purview of what led to these concerns. what are your fears? one of the company's concerns and also how these rules address those. >> wouldn't you so much fears that i mean, this is really part of a long-term effort of ours to that's the best of our abilities to try address disrupted party. so we have some 24 7 features, including
6:33 pm
a party you know, whether it's new year's eve weekend or, you know, random weekday. we ban parties currently an air bnb not something that we allow in any of our listings for the time but we also acknowledge that in there just sometimes the year. halloween is another 4th of july. and and obviously forthcoming a new year's eve parties and prevail and sand. we need to up our game. and that's exactly what we're doing. so when you know, see certain factors that are more likely to lead to that needle in a haystack type of unauthorized that has led to this type of initiative which which show really does address people who either have negative reviews, an air bnb or who don't have any reviews at all. if you have that history of positive reviews on our platform. the steps the restrictions are not going back to >> so then you have 5.6 million listings around the world. how do you weed through all of those things when people are trying to book and find out, ok, this person has no history there trying to book a house for 10 people.
6:34 pm
how you have algorithms. how does that work? >> yes, so so it's automated and it's based on the foundation of identity verification. this is a really important part of a of what makes air bnb a trustworthy and say platform is that in the united states in order to use our platform. we first have to verify that you are who you say you are. i think lose your age. that includes you know, showing your government id again prove that you are you say you so, you know, we have all these factors that go into each and every reservation and its assassin automated manner. so, you know, we we know who our guests we know if they have that history of positive reviews or not. and we also know if the listing is, you know, as a 6 bedroom or you're just a private that a senior citizen is hosting again to make a few extra bucks on and on the side. so all these factors, we know going into it
6:35 pm
and it's it's done an automated manner. >> have you been getting feedback from property owners in. did that contribute to the the decision to make some of these policy changes. >> yeah. we we we have been in the feedback has been even before we take action to ban parties in the summer of 2020 on air bnb. the vast majority of our hose were already prohibiting parties and their own listings that to their hospitals because you don't want property damage. they respect their neighbors and they expect their guests in to to to show respect for neighbors as so these escalating measures and policies and systems to protect against parties to best our abilities have been well received and also impacted our decision to include certain restrictions on 00:00am night reservations over new year's eve. that was speed back then. the explain what you're talking about when you say you're going to be focusing on local reservations instead of out of towners. so 5 in san francisco and want to run place on the beach in half moon. bay is is that out of
6:36 pm
town, even if it's only 20 minutes away. we can't get into the exact radius of what we mean by that just because we don't want to kind of a plan play. but for those who are trying to circumvent those rules and and their parties. but for the reservations that is it not stick to whether it's a local reservation or if you don't have the history of positive reviews. you cannot make a woman reservation through over new year's eve where the local reservations come into play or for those 2 night in 00:00am night reservations and but that's just assessing, you with our history of bookings. what we have found is perhaps more likely to lead to an unauthorized party with that. we're talking about a party thrown by gas without the knowledge or consent of that home. so it is a needle in the haystack situation. it's rare, but when it happens, it can be disruptive. the sister assessing or you know, figuring out what may be more
6:37 pm
likely to lead to a reservation to to an parties. so been real quick. we're running out of time. but i just want to ask is are the possible you mentioned the holidays like halloween and new year's eve. is there a possibility that? >> these could become policy measures for all air bnb rentals. >> i think for now it we do have you know, certain restrictions that are 24 that that are based some of those risk factors that we discussed as far as these big ticket holiday i think for now we're we're we're still focused on the and you know, we're going to continue to see if we can improve these make them moving forward and, you know, try to get this down to 0. that's ultimately the goal. all right. ben bright from air bnb letting folks know that if you're planning a big wild party on new year's thank you for your been think you so much. >> still ahead at 6 is a national park.

we're going to see a series of storms impact the bay area and the state they're now you've got slick roads. a lot of people traveling get ready for the holiday. and we've got plenty of storms coming our way. here's this first one expected to come onshore. you can see that rain moving through now more scattered showers and pop-up moderate amounts of rainfall as we head toward the middle of the night. and then as we head toward tomorrow morning. i think we've become more widely scattered early on. so not a washout for a commute early in the day. but then behind that, we start to see a change in the pattern. you get a little bit of a break by tomorrow afternoon. maybe a few scattered showers, but you can already see all that green to the north. that's the next storm system coming in. that one coming from the gulf of alaska will be a lot colder as it comes through. but then you'll notice that train of moisture just kind of sets itself up and it will continue to rain instead of passing to slowly it starts in the morning. pretty much continues all day long on thursday. finally moving out by the evening hours to taper off of that should be a much more significant soaker coming through on thursday. in fact, we're seeing that rain out there now you see those bands
6:48 pm
of moderate amounts of rain showing up in the yellow. the orange. you can see another one just off the coastline. now that one is going to start to factor in here coming in the next few hours here as it starts to move on shore. that rain, of course, will be picking up places like san francisco going to be seeing that moving right near neighborhoods at about 7.47 this evening mill valley at about the 7.56 in richmond about 08:30am, pacific about 7.26. there's a lot of rain all around the bay area. the rain is going to continue on and off for tonight, temperatures running a little cool. you've got a lot of 40's and some 50's outside right now. but we'll see some much cooler air coming in republican c some periods of some snow dropping in the bay area over the weekend. that some much colder air begins to filter in. but for tomorrow that i think are low that sets up the coastline that's going to push a little bit closer to the coastline that will keep things a little bit unsettling than that next. cold front bearing down on the bay area. that will be more significant rain as we get in toward thursday and that it's just the beginning of a series of storms rolling on through wet on and more substantial rain
