well, welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. the time for you now, 04:30am, here on this wednesday morning. >> a warm one yesterday for sure. it doesn't seem like we get a break today. good morning, john. yeah, today not to break just yet. tomorrow starts that break. that last all the way through the weekend. so really nice probably needed at this point. change of pace for you. >> after yesterday's really hot conditions. your view outside, nice and clear all the way out to the coastline. don't expect it to look like this tomorrow. fog and cloud cover is going to roll in starting tonight leading into

tomorrow. that's also going to help along with that cool down. that is just around the corner from us. really warm. start to the morning. look at this 60's for most of the bay area to kick things off. pacifica concord at 67. brett, what you're at 77 right now. oakland alameda, san francisco in double a home hanging out in the low 60's. as far as winds go not quite as windy as yesterday. still breezy out towards fairfield winds are going to relax further into the afternoon. and that is really going to help us out. red flag warnings expiring at 11:00am for solano county. still a hot one today, though, daytime highs inland rising as warm as the upper 90's to even one triple digit over towards vacaville. i have the full breakdown on today's heat in tomorrow's cool down all still ahead, john, thank you for that. let's get a look at your traffic this morning. hey, a 10 minute drive traveling from the maze to that fremont street exit. >> across the bay bridge, let's check on the san mateo bridge where there are no hazardous, no delays, 80 to one o one about 13 minutes for you this morning. richmond

center fell pretty light. you see definitely no cars out there. 9 minute drive as you're traveling across 5.80, and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. and at 19 minutes for you this morning. the massacre in texas unfolded as children and teachers were preparing to begin summer break this week as police continue their investigation. we're learning more about some of the victims, at least 19 children and 2 adults were killed. sandra mitchell has the latest for us. >> outside the elementary school, the horror started to unfold. parents embracing in agony, awaiting word on their children. first and foremost, per ease is to get information to our families as part of the investigation, the bodies of the victims were still inside the building. one of the first to be identified, 4th grade teacher even more ellis, the wife of a police officer, a

mother and a running enthusiast. she worked at the district for 17 years. also confirmed dead garcia married with 4 children. all of the other victims inside the school are believed to be 4th graders just 10 11 years old, including 10 year-old xavier lopez and bravo. another teacher, one of the injured. i thank god that she came out of surgery, ok? i have not been able to, but i did speak to her brother, my cousin, hector. >> he you confirm that she's okay and just recovering right now, 13 children were taken to uvalde memorial hospital to died on arrival. >> some of the other victims had to be transported 80 miles away to the nearest trauma center in san antonio. the shooting happened on the last week of school. the kids looking forward to summer break and then in a matter of minutes, everything changed. school will be closed with school year is done. >> we have no school tomorrow

for thursday. all activities are canceled throughout the district. >> well, that was sandra mitchell reporting for us this morning. uvalde mortuary is going to be offering funeral services for all of the victims at no cost. well, the warriors head coach steve kerr was very emotional talking about this tragedy. how can you not be? >> and jake says, has to do is get dallas. it's very him because in 1984 kurz dad who was serving as the president of the american university in beirut was shot and killed in an assassination. let's pause for a moment and take a listen to boots. >> since we left shoot around 14 children were killed 400 miles from here. >> and teacher. and in the last 10 days we've had. elderly black people killed in a supermarket and buffalo had

asian churchgoers killed. in southern california. and now we have. children murdered at school. when are we going to do something? i'm tired i'm so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to. devastated families that are out there. i'm so tired of the excuse me. i'm sorry. i'm tired of moments of silence enough. there's 50 senators. right now who refused to vote on hre, which is a background check rule that house past couple years ago. it's been sitting there for 2 years. and there's a reason they will vote on to hold on to power. so i ask you, mitch mcconnell, ask all of you senators who refused to do anything about the violence and school shootings and supermarket shootings. i ask you, are you going to put your own desire

we are being held hostage by 50 senators. in washington who refused to even put it to a vote despite what we the american people want. they won't vote on it because they want to hold on to their own power. it's but not enough. >> well, and very impassioned, steve kerr there now, switching gears to a couple of things that happened back here at home. pacifica police are looking for a driver who they say hit and injured. an 8 year-old boy then just took off. the crash happened around 4.30 last thursday afternoon on manor drive near monterey road. well, police say the child chased a ball into the street when that vehicle hit him. now the boy was treated for injuries at a hospital and has thankfully been released. well, the car involved is described as a silver honda accord or a similar vehicle. and last was last seen going west on manor drive. well, police have also arrested 2 people in connection to a shooting that happened at a

crowded park and palo alto earlier this month. that shooting on may 17th killed route field. he's a cousin of raiders wide receiver devontae adams. well, police say neither suspect is considered the homicide suspect at this time. the 2 were arrested on outstanding warrants, their names and photos have not been released at this time. the mothers against murder, they're offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for field. steph. and san francisco. firefighters trained alongside the california office of emergency services on tuesday to prepare for a fire season that appears to have already arrived. cowie s provides the city and the county of san francisco with dozens of fire and emergency trucks, those trucks and the firefighters who trained on them can be it can be said pretty much anywhere across california. >> and also across the west to assist with major wildfires or other major events. well,

training like this is intended to add an extra layer of resources when it comes to those large fires. >> california, we always have a lot of events. we want to make sure that we always have a capacity to respond. so, yes, it's it's like a whole nother state-wide fire department on that. we can move what we need to during emergencies. >> well, the san francisco fire department says that if fire crews do get sent somewhere else outside of the city that they still have. and that staff here in san francisco to man all their equipment and to respond to all calls as needed. well, know your zone. that's the phrase that you're going to be hearing more frequently this wildfire season because fire departments and other emergency operation centers are identified. jones or their areas in communities to alert residents of evacuations. now, the program called zone haven is being held as a great helping hand to protect lives as well as property kron four's terisa stasio has that

story. >> the the implementation of zone haven and san mateo county was the first to implement it was really predicated on this idea that evacuations didn't have to be a kind of constructed in the heat of the moment. >> jonathan is the deputy fire chief of san mateo calif fire division working in the fire service for decades. he has seen firsthand the horror of wildfires and the chaos it can bring to a community. that is why he says the program called zone haven can be so helpful. >> this is really important because the dispatchers are getting 9-1-1. calls the public wants to know the zone that are back. you waited and even first responders that are coming into the zones want to know which areas are evacuating, which are. >> so that was really the idea behind zone haven. and it's really groans grown from their explains that zone haven is a natural software program that assigns numbers to areas and communities using it. hence

the catch phrase. >> know your zone a in the past. what would have a big map out the future? sure peace. and then try to communicate sharpie lines to the public. so first, 4 months of huge to organizing evacuation. ryan gregory is in napa county supervisor. gregory says county residents are still getting used to their numbers. body says that the zone concept. >> provides much clear communication. it simplifies things in it. so it over public safety people to look at the same sheet of music. but most importantly allows the public to see the same sheet of music. so you can look at a map and see it would be. baker cohn is with marine county office of emergency services. >> he and the others say that knowing your zone is not replacing other forms of critical communications but rather complimenting was already there. all of the officials say the bottom line is trying to do all that can be done to save lives and property, especially as wildfire season shifts into

high gear 100%. that's what we're always looking to do. how do we save more lives and protect your property? and this is just the latest kind of integration of technology and using it to our advantage. theresa kron, 4 news. >> well, for your health this morning, it looks like monkey pox has arrived in california. now the state health department is investigating as first suspected case of a sacramento county man who traveled to europe where cases of monkeypox have been confirmed so far, there are fewer than a dozen confirmed or suspected cases in the u.s.. but that number is expected to grow. doctors say the virus can be transmitted from an infected person with monkeypox shores to another person through prolong skin to skin contact bodily fluids or respiratory droplets. >> simple rules of somebody doing the intimate with them. if somebody has a card teresa grass, you help have that report they'll be contact tracing. none. >> well, the cdc says most

>> i'm going to break any time soon or this is this is our life now. actually the last day of the so tomorrow, right back down to some real cool weather. it's going to be something we can all look forward to get through this last afternoon of the heats and then there is definitely a lot of relief in sight. as for the golden gate bridge, it's crystal clear this morning. enjoy that view because it's not going to be looking that way tomorrow. the return of fog. cool ocean cool. they're pushing into the bay area for your thursday means tomorrow is going to be a foggy and much cooler. start and then a much cooler afternoon, too. as for winds today, calmer than yesterday was still breezy out towards vacaville and fairfield, though, still under red flag warning partially because of those winds and very dry weather through 11:00am this morning for solano county today mentioning it's the last day of the heat. high pressure ridge is still going to remain in effect. so that's going to keep us dry. but we do have a big switch up in wind direction that is going to allow that cool ocean

air to sift back into the bay, replacing the very hot and dry northwesterly winds with the cooler westerly flow that allows that cooler forecast. you can see that at the coastline. we'll have some dense fog, even some areas of drizzle and some misty spots inland areas. you won't be getting the drizzle, but you will be getting temperatures as much as 20 degrees cooler tomorrow. 70's for most of san francisco today. we will have some fog returning to the coastline in some pockets. well, temperatures along the bay shore mostly back into the 80's today, foster city, 82 from redwood city down to the south bay. do expect some 90's. freeman, you'll be at 90 today and mid 90's from livermore pleasanton walnut creek and concord, oakland, berkeley, richmond, in the 70's for your highs. vacaville up at 100 degrees. while vallejo, a little cooler at 86 santa rosa still in the 90's at 93 tomorrow's high school into the low 80's where we'll stay into friday. upper 70's return by saturday and sunday
