we switch gears on this monday night election. even take a live look over san francisco. >> our first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at what's coming out of the sky. you know, so exciting weather. i mean, throughout the weekend we had what stuff coming through. but now we're going to get things going. we've had some lightning strikes are showing up off the coastline. may get some of that overnight tonight. so out there you see the clouds, that kind of broken out there over the bay. right now, we've seen some showers kind of moving on through. we throughout the day today. we have some sunshine. we had some showers. then things have started to pick up again. i think tonight going to be heavy overnight tonight. we'll see more rain than we've seen in the past. 24 hours coming late tonight. still some of the totals almost a half an inch, almost 4 tenths there in can feel the sun rose over a quarter of an inch, just a 10th of an inch in san francisco. oakland under a 10th and only 300's in san jose. but we're going to put together some impressive totals. i think overnight tonight we've got some showers, the possibility, some thunderstorms and some strong

gusty winds developing outside overnight tonight with another round. some heavy rainfall moving, especially late tonight, early tomorrow morning. i think that commute tomorrow. we've got to be careful. i think maybe the heaviest rainfall may have moved through, but i think you see all the water on the roadways be careful tomorrow morning. if you're driving early on the week ahead, staying very unsettled, i think through at least wednesday models are differing in the long range as we get toward this week as they often do this time of year. so right now, at least it leaves leave a chance of a couple showers over the weekend as well. here's your system. the rolling on shore. you start to see the cold, unstable air begin to move in. all of a sudden you start to see these thunderstorms popping up off the coastline. and so that's we're watching for right now. some of these storms rolling on by bringing some snow in the high country. a ton of it up there. but just off our coastline, them are seeing some thunderstorms out there. in fact, the cell that sitting out there right now producing a couple lightning strikes. that is not all that far away. in fact, that is only roughly 75 80 miles out there. they're going to 66 miles an out there

right now likely to be pushing on shore here very shortly. usually when these thunderstorms develop, those tops will start to collapse over a few minutes or so or 10 minutes or so. but still very active out there. there's plenty behind that numerous storms off the monterey bay. they're getting hit hard right now by some storms moving through there right now. a flash flood watch actually in effect until tuesday afternoon, as we're expecting some heavy rainfall to that areas that heavy focus. i think the heavier amounts of rain could move a little bit further south. all that being said, we're seeing some big-time swells moving along the coastline, 15 to 20 footers out there and some strong gusty winds, a real likelihood late tonight early tomorrow morning. maybe some 35 some 45 mile an hour gust up toward the beaches. and that go along with all else is happening out there. and you've got some cold temperatures go along with that. would be surprised if we saw a couple of snowflakes over some of the highest mountain peaks locally. but a ton of snow falling in this year. that will talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. four's your local

election headquarters and the midterm elections been talking about him for a couple years now. they are tomorrow. they are upon us and we're nearing the finish line for many races here in the bay area. >> county registrars are preparing for this big rush kron four's theresa has more now in the last minute steps. it they're going to be taking to get to the polls. >> looking at about how they 27% so far. well, that's the count so far with mail in ballots in contra costa county. while the number may appear to indicate a low turnout for tuesday's election. tommy gong, the chief deputy clerk recorder for contra costa county says he is staying upbeat, feeling great about our 152 polling places tomorrow. >> the open up bright and early 07:00am khan says if you plan to cast your ballot tomorrow, make a plan and know where you want to go. he says there is always hope for those who need it. we understand there may be other reasons why people feel the need to vote in person. for example, we

newsroom. ella sogomonian kron. 4 news. thank you. ella in the east bay almost a year after her disappearance, police. >> find the remains of alexis gabe today. her family speaking out for the first time since that terrible news broke. our first charles clifford has more. >> well, here in oakley on monday, police investigating the disappearance of alexis gabe say their investigation is now completed. that is because they believe the man that killed her is dead and that her remains have now been found, according to investigators, someone called an anonymous tip line this past thursday to say they had found human remains near plymouth, california, which is to the east of sacramento after comparing dental records, they now believe the remains are those of 24 year-old alexis gabe gave was last seen alive on january. 26 investigators believe her ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones had murdered her that evening for unknown reasons. in early june, jones was fatally shot by police in seattle when officers attempted to arrest him on murder charges. alexa's family and friends have been searching for her ever since.

unfortunately, police believe her remains may have been left in multiple locations. so the search will continue deep inside. we were still holding on to hope that she's okay lexus. his father gwyn, gabe says they may never get over the loss of a lexus, but they are relieved. she's been found. but despite all the pain. frustration and grief. we are somehow relieved that she has been found and we can finally bring her home. and finally, a candlelight vigil is planned for wednesday evening to remember alexis gabe. it will be held at 07:00pm here in civic center plaza right next to city hall in oakley. but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> new tonight tonight, authorities say a body was recovered from the water near the port of oakland. today. police received a call little after 10 o'clock this morning of an unresponsive person floating in the water. when they arrived, they determined the victim was dead. anybody with any information is asked to contact oakland police. >> former mma star cain velasquez was in court today for his preliminary hearing.

he's charged with attempting to murder harry back in february. is accused of molesting a four-year-old relative of alaska's in court today. velazquez's lawyer questioned the first police officer on scene about the shooting and showed pictures of launch. hayes, a vehicle. they detailed where bullets went through the windshield. the preliminary hearing will continue with more testimony tomorrow. and after that, the judge will decide if the district attorney's office has enough evidence to move the case forward to trial. velasquez will remain behind bars without bail. a developing story we're following tonight. meta. the parent company, facebook is set to lay off thousands of workers this coming week. it is the latest tech giant. >> to trim its workforce following twitter, lyft and microsoft. a spokesperson for the company declined to comment specifically but directed us to comments made by ceo mark zuckerberg last month during the company's 3rd quarter earnings call when he said the company expects to be the same size or slightly

of problems along i-80 50 their chain up in both spots. now you can see it. >> behind me right there, nearly whiteout conditions and the storm system really going to pick up overnight and i think really getting the heaviest about the middle of the morning through noon tomorrow, then maybe tapering off a little bit toward tomorrow afternoon. but look out there almost looks like a scene from the if you see that movie white out up there right now. tough going. you can get up there across the passes, least 11 people, but it's hard going. you can imagine a lot of delays right down there. that is i-80 somewhere buried underneath all that snow. a winter storm warnings continuing until wednesday. heavy snowfall yet maybe 2, maybe 4 feet snow between now and then above 7,000 feet or so that snow level dropping, though, now, the 5,000 feet tonight, even lower than that, the coming you can see that snow affecting all the mountain passes. if you're headed in that direction and look at this, you're seeing things pick up right now. watch happens as we head in toward the middle of day tomorrow. take you through the night tonight, another branch
