immigrant from egypt. according to the white house who overstayed his visa. it was armed with a makeshift flame thrower, according to law enforcement. witnesses say that he yelled free palestine and then hurled what may be molotov cocktail into a group of people who are there to draw attention to israeli hostages in gaza on sunday, according to law enforcement some of the 8 victims are being treated for burn injuries. witnesses saw one of the victims lit on fire from head to toe. >> that hacker. came out from the. wishes and the trees and the second time and he he threw another cocktail. on the second when he lit himself on fire. >> the jewish community relations council owns the voice of the bay area population for the jewish people. the council says, quote, well, many details remain unknown. jcrc bay area is monitoring the situation closely and we'll keep our community updated. state

senator scott wiener of san francisco posting, quote, jews here and around the world are being targeted with violence. it's not random. it's a pattern fueled by anti-semitism and it's terrifying. it has to stop and quote, we have seen in previous attacks, including on october, 7th that the jewish community has beefed up security. it said god's here across the bay area. we have not heard yet. if that is actually happening after this latest attack. but you can certainly be ensure that there are growing concerns here in the area because of all this. back to you. showing. >> it is 604. also in the news today, we have the man accused of killing an oakland teacher is expected in court this morning. investigators say eric hernandez garcia was behind the wheel of a car that crashed. >> into the sidewalk, killing the council on a high school teacher covers will tran is live in alameda county before the court appearance to tell us what's going to happen today. well,

>> hernandez garcia has been in santa rita jail since wednesday night. he had a little bit of a break when he went toicourt on friday, but nothing was resolved. came back here and then the little bit later this morning, he once again would be put on a bus and they head towards oakland to go before a judge. this all went down on wednesday evening before that particular time. nobody as far as the public was concerned, even knew about hernandez. garcia and then it all went down in horrible, spectacular fashion. when the chp they were pursuing hernandez garcia on the freeway, which ultimately lead to the city streets and then they called back their pursuit thinking even for chp standards, it was simply too dangerous for them. but hernandez garcia kept going and ultimately lost control of the stolen car and then crashed into 2 people who are simply minding their own business. a man and a woman just walking along the

sidewalk when his car plows into them, the woman severely injured. the man died from that horrific crash and to add heartbreak to this story 2 days later, councilman high school had a graduation ceremony. they were celebrating the accomplishments of the students thinking about the future and thinking about their beloved teacher. doctor marvin boomer. recently got his doctorate. he was the man who was killed as far as hernandez garcia. he has been charged with multiple felony charges, including hit and run invading police officers as well as the hic manslaughter. thanks a lot. well. >> it's 606, right now. another developing story that we're following this morning is there is an air quality advisory in effect because of some flaring at the chevron refinery in richmond. and you can see the black smoke there rising from this fire at the facility around 3 in the

afternoon. saturday is when it broke out the bay area air district says that this smoke could affect people in richmond. san pablo panel, her carry delays and parts of solano county. here's what some residents have to say. >> you like that. bowing you see something in place, especially refinery. you know, you think like they can explode and if it does explode, we're right here. so it's a constant kind of like stressor like fear. frail. happened. >> and what they're saying about young children and seniors, for example, and those with breathing problems, those the people who are most at risk when the air is bad. so if you're in that area and you have any trouble breathing or respiratory problems, it's best to stay inside and keep your windows and doors closed. the refinery tells kron 4 for its response. our workforce worked quickly to minimize and south. the flaring, the safety of our workforce, our communities and the environment are highest priorities. >> another big story that

we're following this morning. the trump administration is threatening to take away federal money from multiple bay area cities and counties that don't fully cooperate with ice on fours lindsay for talks with some mountain view residents and the mayor about what this means. >> president trump signed an executive order enforcing the heart crackdown on immigrants and jurisdictions that protect them among the bay area cities. and the list is mountain view. everyone belongs in in mountain view. >> i'll say for, you know, myself in particular, i'm multiracial. my father's japanese american in my mother's chinese and puerto rican american. and so i know what that's like to feel like you don't belong to be asked where you're really from. and now don't ask those questions mountain view. mayor l says since president donald trump took office. >> every day has become a challenge, especially for the migrant population. says city leaders have recently addressed to the community publicly. >> to reaffirm their commitment to becoming a

community for all. this means they are at risk for federal cuts that would impact funding for more affordable housing in the city. even though. >> you know, we are facing a situation. we are we were resilient community and we our residents to know that everyone belong. so it's definitely a roller coaster of emotions come a further stated that mountain view council has not voted to name themselves. a sanctuary district, but that the city of mountain view does create practices to become a welcoming city. we're not sure how we better way onto the list. >> maybe it's the, you know, the rich, cultural diversity that we have. >> and the welcoming spirit that we that we do. but in no way, are we defining america's the country for for everyone? and that's what we're doing. >> in mountain view, lindsey ford kron, 4 news. >> well, for the second day in a row, san francisco officials had to rescue someone who was stuck on a cliff along the battery crosby trail on

sunday. the person was airlifted from basically the bottom of a cliff at about 2 in the afternoon. again, this was sunday, the day before on saturday. another person had to be rescued from basically the exact same location. luckily, both people weren't seriously hurt. san jose meanwhile is cracking down on dangerous driving after another person was hit and killed last week. starting in august, the city will be activating their red light cameras at 4 major intersections. it's all part of a one-year pilot program. drivers caught running red lights could face a 480 seconds. $86 fine. a second program will launch this fall targeting speeders with dozens of citywide cameras as well. >> 6.10 right now and i know the school year is and september were thinking of summer right now. but a lot of families can't afford those school supplies like backpacks and whether you need one or you'd like to donate. it all starts today in san jose registration opens today at 09:00am for the annual back. a pack backpack and school supply drive campaign. it's

the building and went through the bottom of the bottom wall. >> the much love fog city diner in san francisco is closed now after 40 years of business, the owner didn't give a reason for the closure. just thank everybody for all their decades of support. fog city diner opened in 1985. and it gained a lot of fame because it was in the 1993 film. so i married an axe murderer. the napa police department has named its new chief of police. it's fabio rodriguez. he's been the acting chief since april. he replaces the retired chief and he's also been with the department for only 3 years. >> in the south bay, 5 puppies are being treated now by animal care services after a grass fire near the san jose mineta international airport broke out. the blaze happened sunday afternoon at about 02:00pm right near the facility of rough drive and west hedding street. it impacted about 20 acres of open land sent heavy smoke into the air. no injuries. 2

people were reported or damaged structures. no word yet on how the fire started. but it is under investigation. san jose fire responded to a brush fire as you can see here with first responders saying it started just after midnight sunday in the area of singleton road and locke drive. it isn't far from the east capitol expressway. you can see fire crews working there at the scene, according to those firefighters, a total of 2 acres burned. nobody was hurt and no buildings were threatened. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> and we're looking outside at some cloud cover this morning. absolutely kind of a similar view as to what we had yesterday at the same time. call it june gloom, but call it a cool down from where we had been on friday and saturday. san francisco sitting under some of this great as is much of the bay area. high pressure. ridge is waiting in the wings to the west. and even though it will build and somewhat later this week, this low pressure area

that is incurring a dip in the jet stream is going to stay put. and that really moderates temperatures in the days to come. so really no major heat spikes ahead of us and really no chance of rain either. just a holding pattern 60's for your highs in the city as well as at the coastline. some bits of brightness out there. but overall, pretty great towards the coast. elsewhere in the bay area. we're tapping into a lot of sunshine this afternoon. and even though daytime highs will be warm in the 70's to 80's, it is certainly not the 90's triple digits where we had been dublin at 81 degrees today. danville, 82 oakland, up to richmond in the 60's for your highs with napa in the upper 70's. same in bunny ship. well, santa rosa down through petaluma in the low 70's for your highs today. a look ahead to show temps tomorrow. almost identical to today's very subtle warming trend for the tail end of the week. getting us into the mid 80's on average inland by thursday and friday. >> check the roads this

morning. there's not a lot going on accident. why? so that's great news for you as you're making your way around the here's a look at your golden gate bridge, right? we're just 90 minutes to get from nevada down into san francisco. here's a quick check of your san mateo bridge where you can see it's 13 minutes to get from hayward out to foster city. so you're moving right along at the limit. there. 14 minutes to cross the richmond. sandra fell bridge from the east bay in the marin county. and then lastly, you can see it's also a 14 minute ride across the bay bridge. that's the drive time from the macarthur maze in oakland to fremont street in san francisco. >> its 6.18, right now and for your money, some social security recipients could see smaller checks starting this month as student loan collections resume starting this month, the federal government is allowed to garnish social security checks to collect sunda defaulted student loans. the white house said in april the education department would start collecting on the country's 1.6 trillion dollars and has standing student debt. some retirees could see smaller

deposits if they still owe on old student loans. and prices are down. they dropped more 50% after all time high. we're paying that back in march. the cost of eggs has gone down. now it's 3.29, a dozen which is down 56% since the beginning of 2025. the u.s. department of agriculture says that the price of eggs, was at an all-time high in march. do you remember it was 8.17, on average down and i know i pay like 12 bucks for a dozen. the drop is attributed to factors, including the declining number of bird flu cases and the increased consumer demand after a period of panic buying. >> for your health this morning, some in the agricultural industry are worried that funding cuts at the usda could make our food less safe to eat. so the consumer concerns include not having enough people to research and eradicate diseases like bird flu and pests like the bull weevil. they're also concerned about

freezing grant money that farmers budgeted for and depend on but haven't received yet in time to benefit their crops. more than 50,000 usda staffers, which is about 15% of the agency's employees, took the trump administration's financial incentive to resign as part of the doge plan to shrink the federal workforce. according to recent reports, one usda lab that tests for diseases like bird flu, sot 20 to 30% of its staff. leave. meantime, last month, secretary rollins testified that some of the frozen funds have been released and that the usda is working to release more. meanwhile, it is unclear how much is still frozen and hasn't been distributed to farmers in april, rollins announced that the usda would have some exemptions to the federal hiring. freeze 6.20, is a time right now and a

>> we are back 6.43. is that i'm here for things to know today. and air quality advisory is in effect now after a flaring at the chevron refinery in richmond, black smoke could be seen. billowing into the air from that facility about 3 in the afternoon on saturday. the bay area air district says that smoke could affect people in richmond. pablo pinole hercules and parts of solano county. a brush fire broke out in san jose over the weekend. first responders say it started just after midnight sunday near east capitol expressway about 2 acres burned. nobody was hurt and no buildings were damaged. san francisco officials, meanwhile, had to rescue someone who was stuck on a cliff along the battery crosby trail sunday afternoon. this comes a day after another person had to be rescued from that exact same spot. both people were not seriously hurt. and the national the

>> checking the roads as we speak. you can see we've got a decent commute here at the bay bridge about a 17 minute ride for you as you make your way from oakland into san francisco. not a lot going on there. the richmond, sandra fell bridge 19 minutes to get from richmond out to sandra fell in marin county. it's a little bit of a backup at the toll plaza, but the span itself is moving at the limit. and then here we have your san mateo bridge. 16 minute ride currently to get from hayward out to foster city on the peninsula. but there is an issue on the peninsula side of the span. apparently a pretty severe traffic accident on 101, southbound right there at the 92 connector. right lanes are blocked. so that's going to cause some delays for you. and then lastly, we have the golden gate bridge. you're southbound 1, one, right from nevado to san francisco. the toll plaza is about 20 minutes currently. >> it's 6 47 and in the north bay, 29 year-old vallejo man is in jail because look at the gun that police seized. it was a pistol with a high-capacity
