>> right >> now on the kron, 4 morning news breaking news. 60 people arrested. officers injured this morning after hundreds rally in downtown san francisco to support la protesters will have more on their message and what was caught on camera. proper morning news starts now. good morning and thanks for waking up with us. i'm daria and i'm james. we've got lots to talk about this morning. the fact that hundreds of national guards members are now in la as >> continued protests break out for a 4th day now over ice inforcement in that city. governor newsom is going to be filing a lawsuit against the trump administration today. >> because the national guard was called in without his

approval. yeah. meantime, secretary of defense pete hegseth is threatening to deploy marines into downtown l a as well. we're feeling the ripple effects here in the bay area. we sure are. we saw protests happen in san francisco and we've got team coverage of that covers. joey horta is going to have the latest on the protests downtown and what's in store as we're looking for another protest tonight and kron four's will tran with reaction and response from mayor daniel lurie and what he is going to do in the wake of this. well, before we get to all of that, though, we do want to get you caught up on whether real quick here as we look outside live in san francisco, we got some low clouds overhead, stubborn fog, john. yes, that fog pretty stubborn for the city right now. burning up for other spots. definitely lifting over sfo right now. but ever so present there on the peninsula and towards the coastline, got some of it pooled upper right there above the east bay hills. that's just the moderating force that comes from the ocean, though. and it's actually been nice that we've been tapping into that june gloom during the mornings and then you're comfortable dune afternoons.

>> 50's 60's to 70's now for those current temperatures, although calistoga in vacaville venturing ever closer to 80 degrees, as we do move into the afternoon, it's 80's again for inland spots. at least most inland areas under some pretty clear and dry skies. back to you. all right. thanks a lot, john. 10 a while. let's get back to the big story, which is president trump ordering 300 national guard troops to los they're all responding. as we mentioned earlier, 2 days of protests over immigration raids. >> now the president says even more troops may be on the way if he decides to send them. our dc correspondent vinay simlot has more. for new governor gavin newsom says his state does not need president donald trump to send in the national guard. >> it's the first time a president has activated the national guard against a governor's wishes since 1965. that was president lyndon b johnson and he sent in the national guard to protect civil rights marchers in alabama. we are overwhelmed as far as the number of people

out there engaged in this type of activity. >> another night of protests in los angeles. and police chief john mcdonnell says his force is overwhelmed. >> he says those protests following ice raids have escalated shut down streets and started fires. president donald trump says against the wishes of california's governor, he's deployed 200 members of the national guard. him. the lapd chief says he didn't request federal troops. i say we're we would have been there yet. looking at the violence tonight. i think we've got to make reassessment. and on saturday night, defense secretary pete hegseth warned if violence continues. active duty marines at camp pendleton will also be mobilized. they're on high alert. house speaker mike johnson reacted on sunday morning to once in a greens into the streets of american cities is heavy hand. we have be prepared to do what is

necessary. and i think the the notice that that might happen might have to deterring effect republican senator bill cassidy says marines should only be deployed in american cities when they're having severe problems. now, what i read so far is that that does not seem to be the case. >> that's happening in los angeles. governor newsom has called on president trump to pull back and stand down. he says president trump is inflaming tensions in los angeles. >> california's governor says he is planning on filing a lawsuit this morning challenging the president's use of the national guard in washington. i'm in a somewhat back to you. >> 10, 0, 4, right now. and the breaking news overnight, dozens of people were arrested in protests as we said, that happened in downtown san francisco. yeah. portion of a turn violence. protesters say they were standing in solidarity with the demonstrators in l a. >> all over the federal immigration policies that we've been seeing play out in the ice raids that followed for joy is live in san francisco with more. joey?

>> diane, james windows are shattered here at the ice building. and there's a lot of graffiti on the walls. now we can show that to you because >> it's filled with profanity. we can tell you that san francisco police have arrested 60 people, including some minors after these protests turned violent here. listen to this. >> this >> is what it looks like today outside the immigration and customs enforcement building after hundreds hit the streets sunday night protesting the arrest of undocumented immigrants. san francisco police in riot gear set up a barricade and 2 officers were injured during a clash with protestors. one of them ended up in the hospital. mayor daniel lurie saying demonstrators also vandalized muti and a police car and away ball. others are concerned about local businesses here being vandalized and federal employees being threatened.

>> don't beat at local people, especially people who work there. i mean, the people who work at ice there are, you know, they're trying to do their job. i work with kids who've been human trafficking victims of human trafficking. and there are people who have done that crime. the people who are being deported. >> pd says, quote, individuals are free to peacefully exercioe their first amendment rights here and goes on to say pilots, property destruction and other criminal activity. we'll never be tolerated. what's unclear what those 60 protesters will be facing for charges. we've reached out to police and we're waiting to hear back on that. meanwhile, lot of cleanup here for these businesses and outside this ice building as well. lots of damage, large windows shattered, for example, at a chase bank here in the financial district because of this protest, another protest is set for tonight in san francisco. >> back to you. all right. between the cleanup and the

protests get set for tonight. what is the mayor doing about that's the other question. san francisco mayor daniel lurie is scheduled to meet with his public safety officials and others this morning to talk about that. in fact, in less than a half hour from now will tran is live outside of city hall with more from the mayor. will. >> it's pretty much command centers for san francisco is concerned. city hall right behind me as the mayor. we'll meet with his advisers in about 25 now. has a lot to figure out because this is a situation that is not going anywhere. we saw the restlessness in san francisco in the overnight hours and we just learned james and area that there are protests not just at 04:00pm. and i've been telling you about that all afternoon. all morning. i should say at 04:00pm in front of city hall. now they made an announcement that there will be a rally at 6 o'clock and downtown san francisco as well. so lots to figure out as far as the mayor is concerned.

but we do know that he falls on both sides of the issue that he is for immigrants and their communities as well as law enforcement. take a look at your screen. here's what he had to say. and of course, we will update it as soon as he wraps up his meeting. but this is what he sent us in the overnight hours. he says violence directed at law enforcement or public servants is never acceptable. as of all, as i've always said, efforts to target members of our immigrant community will contribute to our city, support our economy and raise their families here. maker city, less safe. we will continue prioritizing everyone's safety by supporting community organizations, investing in immigrant legal services and continuing to build trust with local law enforcement. speaking of local law enforcement, a lot of things for him to consider, including should things get out of hand. they do have at their disposal to call for mutual aid. lord knows we've covered so many

protests in the bay area over the past decade that they can call mutual aid from other agencies to coming to san francisco to help as well. and again, we will update what he has to say as the meeting is set to begin in about 20 minutes from now. back to all right. thank you. will. >> well, obviously want to keep kron 4 throughout the day, both on air and online because we're going to keep covering these developments as they happen both here and down in la. so stay tuned. >> take a look at this big sideshow that happened in oakland early yesterday morning outside of the grand lake theater off of grand lake park avenues. big crowd there. lot of dangerous stunts happening. and in the meantime, there's also also another sideshow in vallejo in all 250 cars participated in that. police say that 6 people got misdemeanor citation. 7 cars were towed. one person was arrested in all of this

happening in oakland on the very same day that later on. >> the city of oakland was celebrating the inauguration. >> of mayor barbara lee and hundreds of people gathered in jack london square for that on sunday. >> we have got to continue to work for a one. oakland to solve problems. recognize an our strength is our diversity on the precipice of a change that is definitely deserving and needed. >> our city has lost his way along the way. but there is always the leaders that will get back and gather. >> so everybody gathered to celebrate their a very happy to have a new mayor and the mayor knows that she needs to get right to work. >> all right. let's talk about a few things that will impact transit about the bay. firstly, happening tonight, we've got maintenance set to begin on the richmond. sandra fell bridge, which is expected to cause some traffic delays really for the whole week. caltrans is going to be closing 3 lanes starting tonight at 8 o'clock to will be shut down on the lower

deck. one will be shut down on the upper deck. they're going to reopen each morning at 05:00am. but during those, you know, 08:00pm to 05:00am hours, expect there to be some delays. and that's why caltrans is suggesting maybe find a different route. if you can't afford to wait that long to get across the closures, they're hoping will end by the end of this week. on friday, the 13th. >> new this morning, smart train is expanding in the north. but yep, we've got reyna harvey here to talk more about what they've got planned reyna. yeah, that's right, ok? so the sonoma-marin area rail transit. >> or known as smart. actually been granted 81 million dollars for this expansion project. we're a line. officials say the expansion will run to communities appeals burn in northern sonoma county. the money's coming from 2 state grant programs. the solutions for congested corridors and local partnerships, competitive programs and then be matched by 187 million dollars in other secure funds. the ccp a war also includes an additional 6 million dollars to acquire a 0 emission

it allegheny. i know right? these are bigger than your typical, you know, get those sides lizards. this was at the joseph, the grant county part. this is an argentine black and white what's he doing here? views argentinian. i know. yeah, that's the they're not native. so it was kind of odd to see a lizard like this. this particular lizzard can grow up to 4 feet long and weigh upwards of 10 pounds. so that put the word out there that keep an eye out for lizards, like would you not freak out? we talked snake season. this is not it was or its season now, luckily, these are aggressive. at least that's what we're told. if you see it, though, don't approach it like snakes. you don't want to agitate them, just let them be and they'll go on their way. if you do see one because what they're not native do color range because they want to keep track of how many of these are starting to pop up. yh, a little rrifying think i preferred over a snake bear or mountain lion to lead take time. but you shouldn't see >> yeah. definitely something

organizations are seeing a drop in sponsorship for events. san francisco, in fact, francisco pride last $200,000 after 5 major sponsors pulled out, including comcast and anheuser-busch. similar situations happened in other cities, kansas city and st. louis just to name a couple. some companies have offered anonymous donations to step up and others have cut their ties entirely. citing economic pressures or political concerns. marketing experts say that it's a part of a larger retreat from brand activism at the same time, lgbtq+ groups are severing their ties with companies like meta and target over there. rollback of diversity initiatives. >> health care companies are still showing up. and it's great to see that they were here before it was cool. they were here when it was cool and they're still here now that it's a little bit controversial while some of the big tech giants they showed up when it was a cool place to be.

>> despite the financial setbacks, the show will go on. pride is expected to throw parties, stay have stages and performances. they're just maybe cutting some corners as far as how much volunteers ged and how they handle things like that. the theme this year is. joy is resistance in san francisco. and here's the executive director, suzanne, for. that are pulling out because >> of fear and and are not even entertaining doing the right thing. we will remember who they are. we're not going to stay where we are right now and what its wings back. i think then we need to be discerning about when we say yes. and we said no. >> local donors and community crowdfunding efforts have stepped up to try to fill the organizers say that they believe pride celebrations will go on with or without big brand logos. >> meantime, san francisco kicked off 5 months with its 30th annual pink triangle installation and commemoration. they help that on twin peaks on saturday. and we've got some video of them doing that work. we get

everybody out there now. originally that pink triangle was met, you know, to symbolize shame. but the pink triangle now has been reclaimed by the pride community as a symbol of pride and empowerment. you can see here in these photos back in world war 2 and not see germany. basically attach these upside down pink triangles on the shirt of man in concentration camps to identify them and dehumanize them. but the u.s. holocaust memorial museum says a lot has changed since then, 100,000 men were arrested and 5 to 15,000 of them were put into these concentration camps because it was in the 70's that rights activists reclaim that simple enough turned out that in 2 and a symbol of liberation. >> it's a huge warning and reminder of what happened to the 2 main goals, our community building and a giant in your face educational tool. it's not just another abstract, colorful symbol to represent the community that has real history here to remember difficult parts of

10 25 is the time san francisco supervisor danny sauder is working hard actually to revitalize downtown san francisco. >> he represents the financial district chinatown, fisherman's wharf, the whole union square area. and on sunday, he told us here in our studio that the city has actually made a lot of progress in bringing people back to those areas. >> one of the things that we're working on right now is actually creating a new financing district downtown to convert as many officers as possible. 2 new homes. we know that not all the offices can be converted, but for maybe 20 or 30 that can that's going to be a big deal to bring thousands of new residents downtown. >> san francisco is also bringing more police officers to those areas where tourists are like union square. you're

yeah. really riling up crowds down in la yesterday afternoon. demonstrators block freeways and >> surface streets. in fact, some cars were set on fire, too. lots of things were thrown at police. police used tear gas against the demonstrators. it was a lot going on. reyna harvey joins us with more. exactly. so some of the images right here. police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets, flash bangs to disperse the escalating crowds. this was actually the 3rd day of demonstrations against ice raids has the arrival of around 300 federal troops for anger and fear. among some residents, sunday's protest in los angeles for center and several blocks of downtown. several business is cleaning up this morning after they were looted and vandalized overnight. police have to clear all of downtown la and unlawful assembly area as more sue the trump administration. over the national guard deployment stating it was unconstitutional to do so without the state's prior approval. where's your decency? mister president, stop. ricin disorder. it's

to federalize the national guard troops is designed to inflame and divide. that is the goal to create chaos. immigrants built this country. immigrants built california. >> at sunday's press conference at palo alto city hall state and san mateo county and santa clara county officials denounced president trump's actions of deployment of the national guard troops to the city of los angeles. >> if the president does this in los angeles, he could do it in palo alto and menlo park in diego. will say. and that is not okay. this is a dangerous precedent. >> video shows national guard troops, president tear gas clouding la streets and flash-bang explosives being thrown. this comes as president trump's objections towards governor newsom after

the second day of clashes between hundreds of protesters and ice agents in right here, tensions were high after a series of sweeps by immigration authorities over the weekend. california state leaders say the national guard's presence in la is a necessary leave urban policing to the experts. >> we don't need the military involved. >> bay area city leaders say they stand with immigrant families. >> our diversity is our strength. >> i'm not going to tell people not to be afraid. this is a scary time. fear is a natural response to danger, but fear does not need to quite a powerlessness. local immigration rights activist asking the public to stand with them. >> this regime response to these defensive actions has been to impose violence and fear. we call on all who stand against tyranny to stand with us. >> we will mobilize. this is

headlines this morning, another big story here. san jose's mayor now calling for the public release of group chat messages between city council members. this is after the local naacp said that several city council members use racial slurs to describe their own constituents. kron four's jack moment with the story. >> the outrage all started with the san jose spotlight article claiming that 2 city council members used racial slurs but the city manager's office has known about the issue for months, probably couple months ago. i my my was told that there was some. racially-motivated conversation that we're going to surfaced centers. the naacp president sean allen, says several law enforcement members with in santa clara county in the city of san jose have told him directly. >> racial slurs were used by city council members, peter ortiz and domingo. can dallas san jose spotlight reports the group chat surfaced. all san jose police were investigating disgrace councilmember omar torres torres was arrested last year and then convicted of child molestation in april

of this year. mean, all transparency, the government to be very transparent by these things in the show came out when they. >> when i initially found that thickness of the exist, happen. of course, we're talking 2, 3, months on the road. >> kron 4 news has not been able to independently confirm the claims made about the group chat, but it is catching the attention of san jose mayor matt mahan who sent a statement to kron 4 addressing the allegations. he writes, quote, these are serious allegations. and to the extent that this language was used in the course of city business or to describe constituents, the people of san jose have a right to know what their elected representatives are saying. i'm especially concerned, but the claim that some in city hall subsequently tried to shield these messages from public view by claiming they are essential to an ongoing investigation. if the tax falls under the cities usual standards for public disclosure, they should be made public to maintain trust with our community colleges that the city and the county has the documents kron. 4 news asked san jose police for any documentation about the group chat and we're told if it did exist, it would not qualify as public record far as i'm

concerned. the public documents public records manager is office did not respond to kron four's requests for the documents. meantime, allen says everything from the turmoil over disgrace. councilmember omar torres to the recent allegations of racist language from city council members. we have some concerns for the future of city leadership. >> this sends a message to our community and our children, our children, future leaders that this is this is the behavior of our elected and that should happen. we want our children aspire to be better and we want within these leaders. these elected are what they should in clearly clearly business is a bad example. and we reached out to council members, peter ortiz a coke and ellis to ask them for any comment related to these allegations made. >> we have yet to hear back in time for this report reporting in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. >> time has 10. 38. meta is considering pouring about 10 billion dollars into an ai startup called scale ai. now bloomberg is reporting this morning that this would make basically met is biggest

external ai investment. it would also be one of the largest private company investments on record. meta will also be looking into incorporating defense technology into scale ai or with scale ai last week met announced a new partnership with defense contractor and real industries to develop products for the u.s. military, including an ai-powered helmet with virtual and augmented reality features. a quick consumer alert for you this morning. at least 79 people have gotten food poisoning across 7 states, including right here in california. this after a salmonella outbreak caused by eggs. so this outbreak has been traced back to distributor august egg company. they're based in merced county and apparently have issued a recall for their brown and white eggs that were sold under various brand names nuland o organics marketside andrei lee's fact they were sold at number of grocery stores. so if you shop at food, maxx or lucky or smart and final safeway, you've probably seen these eggs on the shelf. the cdc's asking you to throw away any exit you purchased under this brand
