you. thank you. rae nato want to we want to get back to our team coverage of the breaking news overnight. the anti-ice protests continue. >> in southern california, president trump is doubling down on the presence of the military in los angeles effect, sending preparing to send more not only national guard, but also marines. >> to la, he says these protests are getting out of control. governor gavin newsom, though disagrees. he says the local police there can handle the unrest so far. our dc correspondent vinay simlot begins our team coverage. >> president donald trump's orders says those federal troops are in los angeles primarily to help out with immigration enforcement and to protect federal buildings. but california officials have sued the federal governmeni. they say federal troops in los angeles is a serious violation of states rights and it's made the situation more inflamed. >> this was chaos that was started in washington, d.c., california leaders say president donald trump made

these protests. president activated 2000 national guard members to la on sunday against the wishes of governor gavin newsom. on monday, he surged to 1000 more and deployed 700 marines to the area. governor newsom next. this isn't about public safety. it's about stroking a dangerous president's ego. the introduction of federal military personnel without direct coordination. >> creates logistical challenges and risks. confusion during critical incidents. los angeles police chief jim mcdonnell says his officers have decades of experience managing protests and making arrests. but at the white house, president trump says he's trying to restore order to la cars burning all over the place people riding. and by the way, we stopped it. >> we were able to make it much better. white house borders are tom homan threatened to arrest anyone including public officials if they obstruct immigration raids. president trump called for the arrest of the california governor's.

>> top everybody those national guard and marines are not allowed to conduct civilian law enforcement on american soil unless president trump invokes the insurrection act. and so far he has not done that in washington. i'm today some light. back to you. all right. now let's bring it back to the bay area where there were more protests against ice in san francisco large crowds. >> more violence, unfortunately, more arrests and crawford's to a hoarder following all of that live for u.s. from union square. joey. >> and guys, right now, the nike store here at union square is still boarded up this morning. san francisco police say throughout the city, thousands of people protested leading to clashes last night. take a look at some of that. that's at market

and polk last night. police there in riot gear pushing back. protesters tried to break through the barricade. officers appear to be firing less than lethal weapons. mayor daniel lurie said monday night's crowds became even bigger than sunday's mostly calmer, though. well, most of the crowd followed orders to disperse where says to small groups became violent, causing vandalism forcing officers to make arrests. city leaders did set out a warning to that. the right to protest will be protected. but violence will not be tolerated. >> and i wanted to be clear, we will file charges against those who are committing vandalism, violence and other acts that are criminal in san francisco. they're going to have to remove all that paint and the paint all over the windows and it's all over the brick buildings. >> where the mayor says he is in touch with the organizers of the protest working to maintain peace. law enforcement from nearby cities. also on hand last

night to support and seth p d police had increased their presence in different locations around town last night. they have since left only seen a couple of them so far in union square this morning, which is your normal about here in this area? it is unclear at this point how many arrests were made overnight. we've reached out to sfpd for that number. we're waiting to hear back back to you. >> thanks a lot, joey. and from union square to the mission district there also protests here at the mission district last night against the ice raids and against president trump's deployment of the military. hundreds of people packed into this intersection at 24th and mission streets and san francisco to protest. >> this is going remain a sanctuary city where ice is not welcome. if come to our the protesters marched from the bart station at 24th street. >> down to 16th street and there was a time where they

passed, as you can see a line of police officers at the mission police station. there was no trouble, no clashes, however, as they passed by. and there is another protest planned for the mission district. san francisco on june 14th at dolores park >> as things seem to be ratcheting up, immigration activists here in the bay area. want you to know what your rights are. they are emphasizing the importance of having resources ready to go. >> it's the climate right now. kron 4 stephanie rothman has more. the trump administration's crackdown on the immigrant community has fueled a wave of fear and uncertainty. >> many organization saying people are too scared to go about their lives in fear. they'll be targeted. but local groups do want them to know there are ways to stand up. tensions escalating in the bay protests in san francisco - turned violent overnight sparking over 150 arrests.

striations and fears on full display after weeks of ice activity across la and the bay area specifically at court houses in san francisco for. >> showing up to accompany them to their court hearings into their chickens. we're sending legal observers, another volunteer observers to see what's going on to make sure that if anything happens, we can go ahead and activate legal response. sonic on the hodge and with bay area immigration services organization, mission action. >> says the community should be aware of their rights if confronted and intimidated by ice agents. they do not have to speak to an ice agent. sign anything or allow for them to enter without attorney present and often times they don't have a warrant. and if they do not have a warrant signed by a judge, they cannot enter your private property. the mission action hotline has seen an influx of callers and request of accompanying them at hearings, faith in action bay area is a rapid response team

>> news that's happening here locally down in la and coming out of washington. so stay with us. in other headlines this morning, an armed robbery suspect is in critical condition now after police say they were shot by a security guard. police say the shooting happened shortly before 5 o'clock saturday night on macarthur boulevard just west of the oakland zoo. they say the armed suspect tried to rob someone. police say the victim didn't comply and it was a security guard who was working in that area who saw what was happening and shot the suspect. police say their investigation as ongoing. >> happening today, oakland city council members released their budget amendments and also policy directives for the upcoming fiscal year. one of the main amendments is the restoration of all the fire stations except for during the 3 months during the winter as opposed to what's currently being done, which is one station being closed at all times on a rotating basis. and the new plan also restores more police services to get more officers on the street. we're going to be gathering in

francisco about regulating autonomous vehicles on california. public streets. so the public hearing is going to focus on both light-duty and heavy-duty commercial vehicles. it will take place at the california public utilities commission auditorium in san francisco. you at 9. that's why you're looking at the i passed one this morning in the dark and it navigated this crazy cone situation. >> and i was wondering what to do when i followed it. all right. there getting smarter and smarter apparently. alright vta, by the way, may need to find a new contractor to move forward with the bart extension project transit officials this week are planning to recommend they find a new tunnel contractor to save money. the current contractor kst has been working on the project since 2022. but since last summer, vta officials say that case st has been unable to come to an agreement on a price on the actual construction of the tunnel. the transit agency is currently in the process of trying to save anywhere from 700 million. 2. maybe even 1.2 billion dollars after the federal transit administration

tall as 5, 4 weighs about 160 pounds and she was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and colorful lettering on that. and then she's carrying a blue backpack. if you see here and you have any information you're asked to call the police. in 18 is the time right now. and hundreds of migrants and allies arrived at the state capital yesterday. they have a three-day walk that they're doing from vacaville. yeah. the group incredibly made it. they did. this is a form of protest against mass deportations. tony salazar shares more on their message. >> and we're talking hundreds of these immigrant families and workers coming from all different walks of life in all different cities all over california. this three-day march, all it's hosted by the northern california coalition for just immigration reform here and things really as part of 3rd stretch, this three-day strike kicked off here in davis a little after 08:30am, in the morning. here you have lots of folks holding up

signs. some, of course, even calling up president donald trump and what he's done the past few days. other saying, you know, papers for everyone here, some of these signed even reading, you know, that people still care agenda, love and protect each other. these are among to some of the signs that we've been seen now, one of those participants is ruby here who joins us folks. are you from the local area or really help it come here? i think the county about an hour away from here about an hour away from here, andrew beat. i mean, what do you all calling you know, for our state and local officials here? >> want to make sure that we're protecting immigrants. you know, every day, our community, both outside of their doors and we are facing all of these people patients and we're asking for our leaders and our state officials to step to protect immigrants, create a pathway to citizenship, to be more support, including paramedic help are brought here. and andrew, but something else you were talking to me moments ago is about the also the adequate funding for

>> major shakeup in a new leader and one of the most powerful positions that there is in sacramento. senate democrats announcing the state senator monique limon, you see or hear she will soon be taking over as the new senate president pro tem limon becomes the first woman of color to ever serve in that position. she takes over from fellow democrat mike mcguire, who has been the president pro tem for the last 18 months. >> we have pressing issues in front of us. and to me, that's the number one thing that we must focus our communities in los angeles, the budget situation, our legislative package is really, really key. and so what this what this means is that will be able to work hand-in-hand to continue doing the work and focus on what californians need. >> it is a big position because not only was to preside over the state senate but also work with the governor on the budget and determine who sits on the committee's limon officially takes over in early 2026.

care. today's gathering will highlight the recent efforts in passing childcare resolutions in 14 cities throughout the county. they're going to be meeting with grail. family services in san jose at 9 o'clock this morning. and the head of a nonprofit that provides free legal services to low income residents is pledging to go on a hunger strike over san francisco. mayor daniel lurie proposed 4.2 million dollar civil legal aid cuts, executive director of open door legal adrian two-time tour to 90 says that he will begin his hunger strike tomorrow here tonight. he says these cuts could force hundreds into homelessness and he's adding that he will not eat until that funding is restored. labor and community leaders also turned out had a large protest last week at city hall to demonstrate against these proposed cuts. >> a controversial fountain along san francisco's waterfront is closed off from the public. and you can see why it's broken here. this is across ferry building at bar

have been looted. we've seen video of vandalism. >> l a mayor karen bass actually is blaming the trump administration for ramping up tensions with the ice raids last weekend sending in military forces. mary beth mcdade explains. >> i would say stop the rates, stop the raids, period. that's la mayor karen bass is message to the federal government as protesters hit the streets of downtown la for the 4th day in a i hope that we will be heard. >> because our city is trying to move forward. that says she knows of at least 5 more ice rays in the southern california area. i can't emphasize enough. >> the level of fear and terror that is in angelenos right now. not knowing if tomorrow or tonight it might be where they live. it might be their workplace, but she says that's to no reason for any violence or vandalism. it infuriated me. >> but it also just said me to drive through downtown right

now and to see the level of obscene graffiti all over buildings. la police chief jim mcdonnell reiterated that such actions will not be tolerated. those who choose to incite violence engage in vandalism or graffiti >> and or attack officers will be arrested. there is no tolerance for criminal activity under the guise of protest because of criminal activity. the lapd remains tactical alert which allows officers to be held for overtime, put off duty officers on alert and bringing resources from other sow cow law enforcement partners, our ability to scale up quickly is essential during this kind of fluid and unpredictable situation. as for the trump administration sending in the national guard and the marines to la this is mcdonnell's understanding of their mission. the national guard were federalized by the president to support federal agents who are working on behalf of ice to do their

operation. the marines were brought in then today, evidently. >> to join army national guard in doing what their main mission has been identified as which is the protection of federal employees and federal property. >> all right. let's bring it back to here in the bay area now with san francisco police calling in extra help from agencies across the bay to protect city hall. yeah. then that as another night of clashes continued between police and those demonstrators. kron four's will tran live outside city hall with the latest. well. >> and there is cleaning up to do in front of san francisco city hall. but it's light were compared to what could have happened. we don't see any graffiti and the side of the buildings, your broken glass. we do see shock on the ground in right now. they're spraying the chalk off the ground. so that slight were compared to how bad it could have been. now san francisco city h-ll, there are plenty sheriff's

deputies inside. so it is protected at this particular hour in the overnight hours and especially late last night, made sure to have police officers stationed here. let me show you video of that police officers. of course, we're all over the city, but many of them are also at san francisco city hall to keep a close eye and what could have happened at this location. they crisscross all over the city wherever there were protesters. there were police officers and sometimes they were clashes now from sunday to monday, we saw about 147 protesters ultimately arrested. and of course, they did not want to see a repeat last night. that's why they were out in full force. we understand there were arrests but nothing close to what we saw from sunday to monday. as far as san francisco mayor, the police department, they all want to remind the immigrant community that this is a sanctuary city, that they will

do all that they can to protect the immigrant community to the point where they reminding the people they're not going to deport they're not going to work with ice. they are not bound by law to do that. what they did say if there is violence, vandalism and destruction, if cover that they want to offer that cover is removed. and that's when they will move to make >> a lot will a 35 is your time count? >> i tolerate violence we need to do everything we can on our side to remain vigilant and disciplined. >> across the board, we're hearing from california politicians and leaders who don't like the fact that the president has sent the military to southern california while they are outraged by the president's order. they're also urging protesters across the state to remain lawful. >> the military on to the streets of that is not normal. that is not normal. that is

the saw. the sign of an emerging authoritarian rishi. >> president trump has continued to defend his handling of the unrest. well, sam liccardo says the deployment of troops is constrained to the defense of federal property. still remains to be seen how they will ultimately continue to be used. and a call for action for both the immigrant community and the unhoused. >> yeah. close to 500 people or so rallied in front of the san jose city hall on monday to demand city leaders address both of those group called on the city council to invest more than a million dollars into legal defense for undocumented families. jack moment has more. >> hundreds of people protested outside san jose city hall monday against the increasing ice arrest seen across the country. not powerless back. why would he a

and he gave police a detailed description of the getaway car. police spotted that car near broadway street and lewis brown drive and when they approached, the driver took off recklessly, forced a chase. it ended up ending and then 2 people were breaking into a gmc yukon. police able to stop them, discovered a loaded gun. all these burglary tools and more items as well. 3 adults and 2 teenagers were arrested. >> well, in a major move on abortion policy, the trump administration withdrew biden eric guidance on emergency abortions. now health experts are weighing in on that decision. they say there will be added confusion now and potential harm now that there's no federal guidance requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions. the decision came down from the u.s. department of health and human services last week in a statement that said that the guidance does not, quote, reflect the policy of this administration. >> rescinding guidance, which is what the trump
