us here on crawford. is it too? i'm justine waltman. our top story today, the ice protests and the response all across california. >> we'll take a live look now at las angeles right now. president trump has ordered an additional 2000 more national guard members to be stationed in the city. so that would take it up to 4,000 national guard members. >> and 700 marines this afternoon, governor gavin newsom has asked a federal court to block national guard and the marines from assisting with immigration raids. guard members were originally deployed to protect federal buildings. but newsom's office is now where that the pentagon plans to direct the california national guard to start providing support for immigration operations so that support would include holding secure perimeters around areas where rates are taking place and also securing streets for immigration agent. so again,

this is a live look the protests that is happening in los angeles. that is what will be watching for you this afternoon. we'll see how the situation starts to unfold. but now we'll see what is happening here in the bay. area's protesters are currently gathering in san francisco kron four's rob nesbitt there for us very latest. >> just team behind me is 100 montgomery street in san francisco. use can see the crowd of people that are gathered in front of it. this building. the reason protesters are here is because this is where immigrants come for their scheduled court hearings in the city. now, it seems as though the protests has wrapped up. someone was just speaking a few minutes ago thanking everyone for coming. i first arrived here around noon and the numbers have grown immensely since then around noon. that's when all the 40 versus everybody lee about 20 people and now there's easily 300 people that were protesting ice. they showed up after receiving alerts on social media that

ice arrests were happening at this immigration court inside the building. i talked to organizers who said that immigrants were seen being escorted out of the front entrance by ice agents and also at a back loading go to miranda is the president of a local union that represents janitors and service workers. she says that protesters are offering support to immigrants coming here for scheduled hearings show ice agents that arrests and raids will not be tolerated in san francisco. tolerated in san francisco. >> there's been folks that ice building. a further that count is at for want to be able make sure need to ready for us to be able contact. folks are coming to appointments that were offering in eu inside courthouse. >> miranda's from an immigrant family and says that everyone in her community is stressed about the possibility of deportations. and miranda is the president of the union that represents several workers in these buildings. and she says that many of those workers are immigrants

themselves. she says that if those workers are deported, these businesses will really feel the strain when they have several job openings that they can't get filled for. now, as i said, things have started to wrap up here. people are starting to disperse, still kind of sticking around with their signs. so the protest itself lasted for a good 2 and we will be here to kind of keep monitoring it just team. but for now live in san francisco, i'm rob nesbitt. i'll send things back to you, rob. thank you. >> now in san francisco, the city also cleaning up following a second night of protests. at least 60 people were detained with a small group broke away from the main protest and started causing some problems. kron 4 charles clifford joins us now live from the city has the latest. there. >> well, good afternoon. yeah, mayor lurie says that he believes the protest last night was mostly peaceful. that it was just a small group of people causing all the problems. >> monday evening, thousands

of protesters angered by recent actions by ice marched through the mission and their city hall. the san francisco police department says that around 10:00pm some of the crowd started causing problems, including vandalizing nearby businesses. we say that when the trouble to clear the assembly unlawful and detained around 60 people using nonlephal force in the process. >> throughout the day and night, i was in close contact with organizers of the demonstration. >> tuesday morning, mayor daniel lurie said that his office had been in communication with the organizers of the march and that overall he believes that monday's protests were comer. then this past weekend, he says the problems they saw were caused by too small groups of people. >> as the march was ending when most participants had dispersed a small group broke off and began damaging property. our officers responded swiftly made arrest and sure the area was secure. we will always protect the right to protest peacefully but violence and destruction

have no place in our city. >> it's unclear when or if protesters will return this week near union square on tuesday. at least one store had boarded up their windows just as a precaution. there's also a notable law enforcement presence in the area. the police department said on tuesday that they are prepared to move quickly. if there are any more problems, we will continue over days and weeks to come to coordinate and prepare for anything that may occur since sunday. nearly 200 people have been detained or arrested for alleged vandalism or assaults. almost all have been cited and released. the district attorney's office has said that they will review evidence before making any decisions on possible charges. all right, back live. now, the mayor also said that city crews have been out and about today repairing and cleaning up some of the vandalism and damage. >> but for now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> charles, thank you so going to go back now to la as the national guard and the marines are being deployed there. our washington correspondent come

can damage your lungs. it can be absorbed through the skin and it can cause serious internal har. >> in san francisco way, most are also limiting service. some of the cars were tagged with graffiti during protests on sunday. in a statement to kron 4 waymo says it will not be providing service in areas where protesters might be gathering in the south bay. a call for action for both the immigrant community and the unhoused community close to 500 people rallied in front of san jose city hall monday demanding city leaders address both the group called on the city council to invest more than a million dollars into legal defense fund for undocumented families. >> more of us that speak of the more of us. more of them know that there's something wrong with what they're doing. >> organizers say they hope to continue their ice protests in san jose. and in the meantime, the mayors who was proposal could be passed as of today if council members approve it in there, budget vote. san jose's

>> oakland's budget will be unveiled tomorrow 10. that will happen right before the city council. the budget deficit is looking very likely. there's a plan to save

money. that does include closing some fire stations that had been unveiled before. but it appears that might not be happening now. kron four's terisa stasio is in our newsroom. she has more. >> i'm much more positive picture to give you. >> 265 million dollar structural deficit. that's how much the council member says of the city has been dealing with. that puts a lot of things online. but all of that is now changing. reversing course. i am really proud of the work my budget team was able to do on proposing extremely thoughtful amendments. oakland city councilmember robert chandra, and revealing new amendments. >> to the 2025 through 2027 budget. staving off 265 million dollar deficit. >> and improving on public safety. this is a mindful budget that really trash prioritize fiscal health. >> it is it is fully balanced. ramachandran and 3 other

council members worked on the budget team reversing one of the proposed fire station brownouts. are investing significantly in illegal dumping working for 4 million dollars in illegal dumping related work in technology. >> she also added on like former mayor sheng taos budget which relied on the coliseum sale. this new budget works with current revenue. how was removed in a recall and the coliseum deal is still in the works. because we didn't get the coliseum money and time and the deal still has not been finalized. >> there was a series of budget cuts in contingency funds but isn't all all of this wildly irresponsible last minute things that could have been avoided if we didn't use that money and this budget does not take into account anything along those lines. there's a lot of and a lot of requests about what a pole are extremely limited budget in different directions. but what we wanted to focus on is the

number one issue that our residents are asking of us, which is invest in public safety. the budget hearing starts tomorrow wednesday at 09:00am in the newsroom. theresa stasi about you, >> theresa, thank you. we'll talk about the weather now looking outside here across the bay bridge. still pretty great here from this shot. kyla grogan is here now to talk about it happened. yeah. the sunshine is limited really limited. the marine layer to go into doing its thing. does not want to give it up. you can see here in san francisco were, you know, we've had a few little bright spots trying to break through, but not so much really a even a few drizzly patches around and the wind, the wind right now, you know, sustained winds about 13 to 15 miles per hour around was to bay area. you can see a few little less than that. but it's going to get gusty as we get into the afternoon. i know we're all kind of houston is now look how cool it is in san francisco in half moon bay still hanging out in the 50's. if you want. some 70's mountain view has made it up to 71 degrees are up to 74 in santa rosa fairfield. 77, same in pittsburgh. but you really have to go pretty far inland to get to that today. it's

certainly been a little bit of a sticking point with this marine layer and obviously he's not cleared the coast, but it hasn't even cleared. as you can see the peninsula, good portion of peninsula. we're getting a little bit of sunshine now. parts of the north bay east bay and extreme south bay san jose's. the places that has been probably the most consistently sunny today. and as we zoom out here, you can see that, you know, marine layer, it is just really socked in there all the way down the coast of california. what eventually we are looking at first of the thunderstorm, 7 extreme northern california today to potentially should have a few severe thunderstorms. even have a little hail with them. so they be getting fired up a little bit. but as we look outside from the east bay, you can see that the cloud cover is so pervasive that we really can't see a whole lot. believe it or not. this is a whole lot better than we started out with today. so tonight that marine layer will be moving right back and temps between about 48 57 degrees, breezy conditions. notice the moon is going to fall in the overnight tonight technically tomorrow. so it'll be in the overnight hours. but that is going the strawberry moon. so i'm going to have more on that when i

come back in just a bit because it's kind of an interesting one. it's going to be it's going to appear lower and the horizon. and then it has in the last of his unlike 18.7 years. we'll talk about that come back in a bit next couple days. pretty consistent fog in the morning trying to get that sunshine in the afternoon. some days. we do a little better than others. well, it's a big week for the san francisco unicorns. the cricket team will be playing at the oakland coliseum 3 times the next week starting on. >> thursday the team will kick off the season. it will be the first time cricket has been hosted at the oakland coliseum. but the oak of the unicorns, the unicorns in the entire league are facing some issues because players and coaches are being affected by president trump's travel ban that went into effect yesterday. so to tell us more about this is just in galle from major league cricket. thanks for being with us this afternoon here on kron 4. thanks for having and said they had. so the issue is that this travel ban is aimed at these 12 countries, mostly in africa and the middle east, including afghanistan, which

is where some of the players are supposedly living are playing right now. and so because of this, they might not be able to get here. what will happen if they don't get here to not only just to oakland but to other states in the country where they have games scheduled. yeah, we've police, 60 international players coming from all across the world and >> yeah, perils of running into national in this. and i just thought just this country, it's you know, it's it's the world lodge. but, you know, we're very confident working with local authorities and at the moment is only 2 really implies consent. some here already and in transit. so, you know, think we're pretty confident they're going to get it if they die. also have backup plans. you know, we plan for contingencies. >> and so you're trying to help them get here. you're getting help from all sorts of different angles. >> yeah, show and local authorities have pretty good. and obviously we're working the consulates all around the world as a site with probably price as 147 basis this year for tournament is some of the

>> defense secretary pete hegseth got grilled on capitol hill today as he testified in a congressional hearing. lawmakers are questioning the lead over his signal messaging controversies, staffing issues at the pentagon and the decision to send the marines to los angeles to help with the protests, washington, d.c., correspondent hannah brandt has the update. >> defense secretary pete hegseth faced congress in a hearing for the first time since his controversial confirmation focused on what's important war fighting and warriors. his appearance comes as national guard soldiers and marines are deployed to respond to protests in los angeles. mister chair want to express my severe concern with

the deployment of national guard in los angeles without consultation of the state of california. decision to deploy active duty marines as well is downright escalatory. congresswoman betty mccollum and congressman pete aguilar also voiced worries about the cost of that deployment, which the defense department expects to be around 134 million dollars. but secretary hegseth defended the you want to ensure that those rioters, looters and thugs on the other side assaulting our police officers know that we're not going anywhere were here to maintain the peace on behalf of law enforcement officers in los angeles where she having son won't do. secretary hegseth also faced questions from both sides of the aisle on the proposed defense budget. >> president trump wants congress to approve 1 trillion dollars for the pentagon. but lawmakers say they haven't seen specific details for that funding proposal. we've gotten a lot of good information and be what the rallies we frankly need more than we've received so far to make the decisions that were called upon to make

>> back to our top stories. we're following those ice raids in protests across the state. lost angeles community members have spotted federal immigration agents taking car wash workers into custody at about a half-a-dozen locations around los angeles county reporter sandra mitchell spoke to a family of some of the day to detainees. >> this video shared on social media shows 15 year-old brian vasquez screaming at border patrol agents as they take his father into custody. either the grab them. and i tell him to privacy. >> so not to not sign

hard to explain what's happening to the couple's 4 children i 5 field. >> the things that has that still at work. also my 10 year-old. shined understands was fine on. >> cl says they knew that the trump administration had warned for months about immigration enforcement, but she never expected her husband to be targeted. and i just want know where he said. >> and if ok, and of you want to come home. >> sandra mitchell. >> some immigrants who were caught up in sweeps last week have already been deported. mexico's foreign minister says for immigrants who were detained in friday's ice raids in los angeles have arrived in mexico less than 48 hours later, some advocates called the speed of their deportation, quote, unusual. the department of homeland security has not said how many immigrants they have detained in the raids so far but says

at least 60 people who were captured had extensive criminal histories, immigrant advocacy groups say more than 200 people who were detained did not have criminal records. developing news governor gavin newsom is filed this emergency motion in federal court to immediately block president trump's deployment of 4,000 national guard troops and marines to los angeles in the motion newsom argued soldiers patrolling the streets of la have not made any one safer. adding indeed the opposite is true. and this afternoon, several democratic members of the legislature echoed nuisance calls and demanded president trump reversed course on his immigration policies. >> and and and to the ongoing rates in the state of california. >> these raids are nothing but cruel, tearing our families apart. the federal government is acting like a dictatorship. this military militarized response if unjust, the president of the united states of donald trump truly wanted

peace in los angeles, he would take his goals and get out. >> in a statement, the acting director of ice said california sanctuary state policies limiting cooperation between local law enforcement. >> and federal immigration authorities have only made the situation more dangerous. tod lyons writing this. make no mistake. ice will continue to enforce our nation's immigration laws and arrest criminal illegal alien sanctuary policies. skews me sanctuary politicians who do well to remember that impeding our efforts only endangers their communities, law enforcement officers and the detainees they claim to support. all right. also have more on this coming up in later newscast today. and back out of washington, d.c., where california democrats are condemning the president's move fall. republicans say he is restoring order where the governor will not. our washington correspondent maddie beer-temple reports on the california delegation is reaction to the unrest in la. it's a deliberate attempt.

>> by trump to incite unrest, california democrats are denouncing the president's move to mobilize the national guard in marines in los angeles to quell protests over immigration raids. this is a pattern of going down the road of being a dictator. in recent days. protesters have set cars on fire, throwing bricks at law enforcement and blocked a highway. congresswoman nanette barragan says democrats support peaceful protest. we all condemn the violence and those people should be prosecuted. lawmakers also say the governor never asked the president to take action. former speaker nancy pelosi says that's unlike on january 6th. we beg the president of the united states. to send in the national guard. he would not do it. california's republican delegation is formally condemning the protests with a resolution introduced tuesday. president trump is trying to restore order. congressman vince vaughn says this is about enforcing the law. you have illegal immigrants who have committed heinous acts. you have a law enforcement trying

to execute search warrants approved by a and congressman kevin kiley blame in part the state's sanctuary status for limiting local law enforcement's ability to cooperate with federal immigration officials. chaos we're seeing in la right now. >> is a direct result of the reckless policies that have been inflicted. >> on our state, kylie says the protests have crossed the line and put public safety at risk. he says the president made the right move because governor newsom has refused to keep californians safe in washington. i'm maddie beer-temple. los angeles mayor karen bass slamming the trump administration saying more military presence is not needed. >> mayor bass denounced any violent actions carried out by protesters in los angeles saying it's not done in support of immigrant rights. she also asserted that local police can handle and the unrest in the city. >> the idea that the administration could usurp the authority of our state government, take it away from our governor. gavin newsom that if we put a request in

for the national guard and it went to him, he would comply. there was never an issue there because we were never thinking about calling upon the national guard. >> the pentagon says the deployment of national guard members and marines to los angeles will cost 134 million dollars. congress now wants to make sure that the u.s. and all of its visitors remain safe during major upcoming sporting events like the 2026 fifa world cup and the 2028 la olympics. our washington correspondent, jessi chore takes us inslde the senate hearing from today. >> the world will be watching. the u.s. is gearing up to host several major sporting events that will drop millions of spectators to the country. the la olympics will be equal to hosting 7 super bowls the day for nearly 30 days straight. lieutenant general reynold hoover who is responsible for organizing the summer. 2028 games told a senate committee

there are people think it'll be fantastic it made me 10 years younger in 10 well idea. okay. all right. well, that, you know, let me know how it goes. that's what i say about that. >> hey, everybody. let's take a look at the national temperatures because take a look at what's going on here. 57 in boston, you know, you'd expect that to be may be a little warmer, but 92 in rapid city is just wild. 91 in salt lake city, 106, right now in phoenix. you can see where the jet stream has risen up and let some of the heat. by the way, palm springs today expecting to be about 106. as you can see, there is starting to be some stormy weather that is kind of firing up all the way from. >> upon parts of montana, right on down into texas and then over towards the south. we are certainly a little quieter than that. although there is the possibility in the extreme reaches of northern california, looking out for a little bit of hail today with some of those storms. and we've got heat issues down in parts of southern california right into las vegas. expecting to get up to about 108, today as was mentioned, those really kind of heat warnings that have

gone up for that area. so obviously compared to that, we're pretty quiet today and we're kind of in that same dull pattern that we've that in with the foggy mornings and then a little bit of sun in the afternoon unless you're the coast and then you get this. yes, you get a whole lot of this. but if you are inland a bit, we are getting a little bit of sunshine in pockets. however, it's keeping temperatures relatively cool here. you can see that you go to the inland spots to get to the 70's and they're just in those low to almost mid 70's today, wind is going to get gusty as we go through the afternoon. it's that onshore flow, bringing that marine layer right back in if it even left it all for you today. here's podcast to show you. this is why tough tonight with that full moon that you want might want to take a look at this is about 8 o'clock. you can see this is really pushing and it does look like it might relent a little bit faster. tomorrow we get into the afternoon. you can see kind of pulls away a little bit quicker that it did today will cross our fingers for of or the marine layer. kind of give us a little bit of a break. here's your seven-day forecast. we do have little variation here, but we warm it up a bit as we get into thursday. notice on the latter half of the weekend looks to be a little more warmth, a little more sunshine next
