thanks for being with us today for kron. 4 news at 4. i'm grant lotus and i'm justine waldman of the bay area council has released new study on the economic impact of ice raids in california. and that number. >> is in the billions. these arrests of immigrants could impact the state's gdp by up to 275 billion dollars and kron four's. rob nesbitt has more on what industries will be hit the hardest. the bay area council decided to dive deeper into the number 6 months ago when president trump was still on the campaign trail, promising mass deportations. >> undocumented residents make up about 8% of california's workforce. this report released tuesday by the bay area council economic institute shows that ice raids will negatively impact several industries. abby royce with the council explained the 2 that could be hardest hit. this workforce makes 33% of the state's farm workers and 26% of its construction laborers. these are jobs that

are in a critical to california's economy. >> and infrastructure. she says that undocumented workers in california generate more than 23 billion dollars in tax revenue. the construction industry has been dealing with setbacks for years and george carrillo with the hispanic construction council says the trump administration isn't helping. we have a workforce shortage 500,000 people. >> all time low unemployment rates. it's aging workforce and we don't have a pipeline of skilled workers to enter the industry. right now. carrillo says he understands the arrests of dangerous criminals but can't understand why immigrants with valid work visas are being targeted by ice. whiplash effect is affecting everybody. >> when they say this, the changes, the next day, it's targeting only century cities in the next 8 back on president trump has ordered ice increase daily arrests to 3,000 per day allowing race to resume at hotels, restaurants and farms. roberto hernandez is an adviser for the mission merchants association in san francisco. he says ice arrests

have been happening at immigration court when people show up for scheduled hearings called several people that i know to go >> and saturday and sunday. to their offices, that's like an unheard of. but some people don't you being set up the report from the bay area council also found that 11% of california small businesses are owned by undocumented immigrants. >> reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> in some developing news this afternoon, pg and bay area. fire crews are anticipating some fire danger. and as a result, the utility might shut off power. and alameda county contra costa county and some parts of santa clara county kron four's. lindsey ford spoke with some decision makers to figure out what they're going to try to do to keep people safe. >> the alameda county fire department is ready for this year's fire season. brandon buckley, battalion chief for alameda county fire say they have a fully staffed, 20 person hand crew working on fire prevention like feels

consider preemptively shutting people's power off as we take a live look here. it sfo. no fog in sight. i'm meteorologist kyla grogan is tracking the conditions for us now. >> yeah, i want tell you so obviously breezy today and you can see that here as we take a look at san francisco. 24 miles per hour. >> but tomorrow, that's when we're really going to see that wind ramp up. and that's why the concern is that we could have some of those power shut offs that happen because of the combination things kind of going on. now, one of the things that's good is that we're going to see temperatures actually go down tomorrow. let's talk about where we were yesterday for highs. we actually go to 90 degrees in santa rosa and you can see got very close to 89 in concord. 87 in sandra fell livermore more mid-eighties and then you know, more reasonable temperatures will be above average still and in other spots. but today we've had very little marine layer, right we had at this morning and then it kind of dissipated really quickly as expected. and we've had that high pressure take control and those temperatures have started to really go up. so the difference between yesterday and today, notice if

you head up to nevado, we're 11 degrees. warmer livermore. 10 degrees warmer. so my inland spots as expected are the ones that are really seeing the brunt of this heat. so we're at 94 in santa rosa. 95 now in fairfield, 94 in concord livermore. 93, you can see a little bit cooler down in the south bay, but as we go throughout our night tonight, we're still gonna be dealing with some of that heat. now tomorrow, those temperatures ramp down. but then that wind is going to start kicking and we could see gusts upwards of 40 miles per hour in spots. will ralk a little bit more about that and come back in a bit. >> all right. thanks. kylen. the east bay ucsf. health care workers are striking over a contract dispute. union members on the picket line outside of any off children's hospital in oakland and kron four's jiey horta is there. >> over 100 health care workers on strike here, carrying signs and chanting they're calling for a better deal. about 2500 current employees of any off children's hospital and its clinics will become ucsf employees in july, according

to union members, they claim the transition will cost about $10,000 a year with their contracts are canceled. the national union of healthcare workers represents 1300 members and they claim they're already losing some longtime members over the transition. the only full-time occupational therapist at this location who is trained to work in during any part of the hospital. so the jobs of 2 other therapists who have that same skill set are being threatened because they don't actually have an equivalent job at ucsf. i currently have a free cousin medical plan that i will not have to pay for. >> i will about $800 a month. so that is very significant. i know under ucsf with leaders there, $800 may not seem like a lot, but it's a lot to me and my family. ucsf says despite the rumors no one is being fired and employees will receive better long-term care and benefits. >> after the transition, ucsf

says in part, quote, some take-home pay may change because today many employees pay nothing toward their health insurance or retirement. and are you see employment? they will contribute. ucsf says they do have plans in place to keep serving patients during this strike ill be picketing here until 6 o'clock tonight. and they continue that throughout this weekend in oakland, joey horta kron. 4 news. >> in what used to be a parking lot will soon become to new affordable housing sites in san francisco, mayor daniel lurie broke ground on the sites this morning. the homes are at the intersection of the civic center, hace valley and tenderloin neighborhoods. the 167 new homes are for low-income families, low-income employees at the san francisco unified school district and community college district. >> today we are breaking ground on our future. a future for our families and teachers and a future where building housing in san francisco is not the exception. is the

expectation. >> the projects will include 75 units for district employees and 92 units for low-income families. but no details were released on when the project will be finished. now a follow-up to a story we brought you yesterday at the state. capitol efforts are intensifying today to urge governor newsom and democratic leaders. >> to allocate more funding for prop 36 related programs and services about 36 past. with 68% of the vote last election, it increases drug treatment and penalties for some theft and drug crimes. but this group of sheriffs, district attorneys, probation officers and lawmakers from both sides of the aisle say the 110 million dollars proposed by legislative democratic leaders is not enough to fund the new law. they are especially concerned the proposed budget. lex prop 36 funding for county sheriff's and probation departments. i implore the

governor and the legislative leadership to fund this proposition. >> and observe the will of the people. the big takeaway is that we must do right by the voters. we must follow through with prop. 36 is extremely discouraging. the proposed budget says property 6 up to fail. all the sheriff said prepared to make the changes we need in support of this legislation. but we can't do it without funding. >> the group says the governor should allocate at least 200 million dollars for the proposition to be successful. the governor was opposed to this arguing it could lead to mass incarceration. he was also concerned some counties would not be prepared to implement prop 36 newsom's spokesperson responded to the allegations. the governor is not funding certain components of the law reading in part, that's false. despite predictably increasing costs, prop 36 did not contain any funding mechanisms. nonetheless, the governor will ensure the law is up operation

>> in developing news, white house officials say all options are on the table as president trump considers whether or not to bring the u.s. military into direct conflict with kron four's washington correspondent basil john has the latest. >> the president has not made a definitive decision yet on what to do. but lawmakers have drawn a line in the sand on the conflict in the middle east. they do it. i may not do it. i mean, nobody knows what i'm going president. donald trump would not say whether he plans to use u.s. forces to strike out on thing. >> iran cannot have >> for nearly a week, israel has fired missiles at iran targeting nuclear sites and killing top civilians are hit in the process. struck back at israel lighting up the sky over tel in on supremely or wednesday. rejected calls for surrender for east and warned u.s. military involvement would cause, quote,

and i guess is a political guy. and i know he's political guy is not a smart person. buddies cussing the country, a fortune. my led to appoint myself for the fed do a much better job than people. >> we'll have to see what happens there. fed officials said today they will not change interest rates for now. they say they want to see whether the president's tariffs boost inflation and for how long? >> let's talk about our forecast now. looking outside here across the san mateo bridge. and it's a been a really beautiful, beautiful day, especially if you like the heat. and kyla grogan is here with a look at the forecast because yeah, and it's awfully nice in san francisco, right? it is a little bit too warm in other places. now we don't have any. >> heat warnings. advisories in northern california, but you can see that along the sierra there is a red flag warning. and then if you head down to parts of central. >> and southern california see extreme heat warnings and also heat advisory. so the heat is on no doubt about it across

the west right now. and there is certainly fire danger out there. we are catching a break from that. however, we will not get our moisture recovery tonight that we kind of get used to having with the fog coming in. as you can see as we get into the evening, really not much to speak of in that even tomorrow morning. as we wake up, you don't see a whole lot of marine layer presents a fact. it's not until later in the day. the actually start to see it rebuilding their offshore. so that's one thing to consider. the other thing to consider is that we're going to have the wind is going to be changing. temperatures are going to be dropping. so let's talk about temperatures first. obviously we're very warm right now and you can see were some of these her attempts livermore now in the 90's, santa rosa now 94. so we're well above average tomorrow things will get better in that department. but in the wind area, not so much. watch what happens tonight. we get breezy. we get that usual kind of on-shore push tomorrow. get to the afternoon. these numbers start to go up and we're talking about potential of, you know, 40 45 mile per hour gusts, especially out at the coast. it doesn't just last through tomorrow, but it goes right through friday and into

saturday as well that we see this wind that we have to contend with. so that is why those, you know, power shut offs are being discussed. and as you can see over the next few days, we do continue to kind of keep those temperatures mellow. but the wind does not really kind of die down until sunday. so between tomorrow and saturday, that's really kind of the difficult spot that we need to watch out for and just be extra careful with fire safety. it feels like it's been windy for several days. that preceded has been like. but the wind we've had has been windy tomorrow is going to be wild, windy, right? it's going to be a whole different level to kind of kick it up, too. so that's why this p s p's are being discussed will notice the difference. thanks, >> oakland police officers say they are placing additional safety efforts around ldke merritt ahead of tomorrow's juneteenth celebration. these efforts come as friday will mark one year since a mass shooting at last year's juneteenth event in oakland, 14 people were hurt there. the department is working to keep tomorrow's event. they say peaceful and respectable. police are warning that

black students. parents and teachers rally before the temple. pius union high school district meeting again last night demanding that school board reverse its decision to cut funding. kron 4 sarah stinson reports. >> dozens of parents and teachers held up signs and chanted at a rally before packing into the tamil pius union high school district meeting tuesday night. many spoke out against the school board's decision to cut to contracted employees who helped start the black student support team at tam high school last year total disregard for students well-being involving lot races him all time high. this vote happened on june 3rd. and while the issue was not on the tuesday night board agenda, the community made it the night's priority. fortunately, we have just a big disparity support. >> you know what students are

not giving up, christine to bury, put together a petition to reinstate the jobs of paul austin. anthony should tate austin. our petition continues to grow. we have over 1400 people that have signed that. >> more and more people are reaching in on this. and so we told them the last time we weren't going away, that issue mattered. >> and most importantly, our children matter. this is about my kids. everybody's kids. having the right to belong in their high school environment. % more than 100 teachers at tam high have also come forward in support of their positions. but we want to let our board know and we want to let our incoming superintendent know that this is really important that we're not willing to allow our elections to continue to not get what they need on our campus, that we are going to be here for months to keep the pressure on the contract, not renewed cost a total of $250,000. the board president has explained her vote citing budget cuts last 4 days behind way passed 2026 27 school year.

say they found the guy actively spray painting the installation officers arrested him after a short chase. but patrick carney, the founder of the pink triangle, says he's now going to fix the damage. so dame, it's 26 of the tarp. so we'll have to replace those tarps, which is a big chart because we would have to demand dismantle a whole area in order to replace them. >> so that's disappointing what i think i'll do is just get some paint that matches the original color and pain over the black paint. however, that's a temporary fix and will still have to throw those terms the way. >> carney also sent us these pictures of anti transgender stickers, he says have been popping up near the installation. he says he and several community members have been removing them are covering them up with tape. >> now to a big story we're following. that is the supreme court's latest decision that could have sweeping effects for families of transgender children in a 6 to 3 ruling the supreme court said that at tennessee state law banning gender affirming care is

lawful. kron four's washington correspondent raquel martin has that story. >> the supreme court's conservative majority is upholding a tennessee law allowing the state and another 2 dozen more to ban gender affirming care for minors because the medical evidence continues to come in showing that this is not inappropriate treatment for kids. tennessee attorney general john didn't score many argued the case. the real scandal is how we got to this point. there's a kid sees or e republican senator josh hawley calls the ruling common sense come in with often mental health issues. and these doctors say. >> what happened is you need to have a gender transition surgery that's going to sterilize you for life. that is just wrong in his opinion. chief justice john roberts argued the case did not violate the constitution's equal protection clause. writes, quote, given fear scientific and policy debates, the decision should be left to the states. it's an awful decision. democrats called the

ruling inhumane. cream court seems to have forgotten that one of their jobs is to protect individual rights. in are 31 page dissent, justice sonia sotomayor, right? the decision lacks proper judicial review and, quote, abandons transgender children and their families to political whims. the aclu which brought the case to the supreme court fears thousands of families will have to relocate to seek care. the country's leading medical organizations, including the american medical association, argue hormone treatment or puberty blockers save lives. devastating for the people who are who are most affected in washington. raquel martin. >> and while today's decision is a case based out of tennessee, it could certainly also eventually affect people in all 50 states. we spoke with the managing director equality, california, about what this decision means for people here in california and nationwide. >> under california law, transgender youth still have the right to access medical

care and their families and doctors still have the freedom to make their own medical decisions free from this sort of political interference. decision does not change that at all. in california. you know, sadly what this means across the country, though, is that in the 25 have to state and the country that have banned that are either tennessee's banter similar. this decision continues to threaten the well-being of trans youth and their families in those states. >> we know what to say that this decision could lead to more families coming to california to get the gender affirming care. they want. >> is about to slash bus service starting on saturday. sfmta officials say the cuts impact about 2% of service and help save 7 million dollars for this fiscal year. the agency says it is still working to recover from the pandemic and its economic impacts. it also has a 50 million dollar budget deficit. >> we know these cuts are painful. but they are

that's where we're seeing the hot temperatures today in the inner east bay and also in the north bay and sonoma and santa rosa also in the low 90's. so we'll see some relief from the temperatures tomorrow, but we're about 10 degrees up in livermore than we were this time yesterday. 11 degrees up in nevado now winds. this is the next weather headline. we've been breezy. we have some strong onshore winds tonight. and that will be also this afternoon. that's why we're talking about some elevated fire danger at the surface where relatively breezy, but over by the hills and the wind prone areas were gusting. we're expecting gusts up to 25 to 30 plus miles per hour. now tonight, we don't see a lot of recovery in terms of the moisture here just may be over by the coast. some of that cloud cover overnight. but we are mostly clear for everywhere else, though. and that will be the early tomorrow. maybe some patchy fog over by the east bay and the coast. but as you can see, it doesn't really is really just stays over by the coastline. so mostly sunny tomorrow. but we will be cooling down with the temperatures down to the low

>> amid concerns over high gas prices, republicans at the state capital say they want the state to investigate new emission rules that they believe will lead to even higher gas prices. and it is just one of many developments that could affect prices at the pump. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> time gas prices in california for everyday californians is already too high and now state senate minority leader republican brian jones says he's concerted gas prices will go up even higher in the coming year in large part, he says because of this vote on november, 8th of last year, motion passes. that was the day the california air resources board or card voted 12 to 2 to approve new regulations enacting stricter changes to what's known as the low carbon fuel standard or else cfs. a program put in place more than a decade ago and at reducing emissions. >> supporters of the latest update including governor gavin newsom say it will protect the environment and reduce emissions by an

additional 30% in the coming years. carbon fuel standards just allowed us to transition. now almost half. >> of our dirty diesel diesel into diesel's created thousands and thousands of jobs. but on the flipside, opponents argue the new emissions rules could lead to higher costs for refineries cost that then could be passed down to consumers as such various analysys and studies from different groups estimate of california could see gas price increases ranging from $0.47 to $0.65 per gallon. >> in the coming year, jones notes that's on top of other increases we already know will take place, including the annual gas tax increase that to go into effect july first. that's when the gas tax rates will go up from 59.6 cents per gallon to 61.2 cents per gallon. that coupled with the anticipated closure of 2 california refineries in the coming year is in jones's words, economic disaster for california families. gasoline in california right now is already too expensive. that's ahy john says he's formally requesting the state to audit the california air resources

board and its latest emissions policy. the audit. you know, it's will determine whether the board, number one uses sound methods when estimated economic impacts number 2 meets legal transparency requirements. number 3, balances, economic equity and environmental concerns appropriately. and number 4 determines whether the board concealed or even downplayed cost that the public and decision-makers deserve to know. i think californians need a fair shake at this and that's what the on its news going expose the decisions that these air resource board members are making and how it impacts us negatively. >> in this statement, a california air resources board spokesperson responded writing in part, quote, the low carbon fuel standard is key to improving california's public environmental and economic health. there are several pieces of misinformation being circulated about the program. first, there is no tax associated with the low carbon fuel standard in the state collects no money from the program. second market forces not regulations are the main drivers behind fuel prices. even so jones as his audit is necessary or hoping that this

clear around 07:00pm and then maybe just some patchy fog over by the coastline. and that's really the case overnight. not a whole lot going on here. and then tomorrow morning, you can just see some patchy fog development over by the coast and maybe some of the valleys. but we're mostly sunny tomorrow. and then you can see a lot of that cloud cover really just pushed back over by the coastline. so the winds will be the next weather story. and this is why we have some elevated fire danger. we're keeping an eye on robust onshore flow here, anywhere from 25 to 30 plus miles per hour, especially along the coast, the peaks and the gaps, the normal wind prone areas. and that will be the case today into the overnight and tomorrow as well. we'll see a strong push tomorrow afternoon around this time or bodega bay could see upwards of 40 miles per hour. wind gusts. so overnight lows will be cooling down to the low 50's mid 50's everywhere else around the fremont. so inland. san jose in livermore, but pretty mild overnight lows here usually been in the 40's and parts of the north bay jumping ahead to

tomorrow's highs. we're talking 60's now and 80's inland. so about a 10 degree drop for you over by livermore and conquered. we could see upper 70's to low 80's everywhere else up. similar temperatures around the bay area. the coast are staying cool in the upper 50's and low 60's. so here's a quick recap of the 7 day forecast. summer is on friday, the first day of summer. but it's really going to cool down to the 70's pretty much friday and told the weekend send a looks to be another warm up here, but more so towards the low 80's, more comfortable temperatures. monday looks to be another warm up in the mid 80's. but we're pretty much just watch keeping an eye on that fire danger. just i know we've been talking about public power, safety shutoffs and the the areas that prone to that. but other than that, sunny and warm. all thanks. coaster. the supreme court ruled that a company can store nuclear waste at a facility near the texas new mexico state line. >> nuclear experts say the 6 3 ruling could free up private companies to keep nuclear waste at different sites

across the country. >> that our washington correspondent vinay simlot has more. >> the supreme court says texas doesn't have the right to sue opening up an avenue for a private company to store nuclear waste in west texas. the storage of spent fuel has never harmed steve nesbitt is a nuclear engineer and a nuclear safety analyst. a private company wants to develop this west texas site to solve the problem of storing nuclear waste. most of the radioactivity has kate off. there's not a lot of heat there. the federal government license this site for temporary storage, but the state sued and took the case to the supreme court. anyone thinks is temporary. i have a bridge to sell you, texas as the spent nuclear fuel would be stored over the permian basin and oil and gas producing area in west texas. but the commission has just is put a permanent paris bull's eye. >> and the most productive wellfield in america. but the supreme court didn't address the underlying legal argument.

texas claims the federal government can't license a private facility to store nuclear waste off site from a nuclear plant in 1982. congress passed the nuclear waste policy act. it says the federal government needs to come up with a place to store nuclear waste or a geologic repository. basically a big hole in the ground. >> that's a little bit of an oversimplification. the federal government selected you come out northwest of las vegas, but the project stalled because the state opposed it. >> 43 years later, the government hasn't found another permanent location in washington. i'm today simlot. >> foster city based biopharmaceutical company just created the first twice a year shots to prevent hiv. the fda approved the shot today. >> and experts say the shot is a drug called lot of cap of year and it nearly eliminated new infections in 2 groundbreaking studies on people who are at high risk.
