>> it's 6. >> good evening, everybody. thanks for being with us tonight for kron. 4 news at 6. i'm grant lotus and i'm noelle bellow. we begin tonight in los angeles where federal immigration officials were seen just outside dodger stadium this morning sparking protests and calls for the team to publicly support the immigrant community. and today the agents were trying to get access to dodger stadium, but were denied alina abovian reports we're just here trying to document as much we can. it's a big disappointment to see the dodgers turned her back on those. >> a crowd gathering outside the gates of dodger stadium this morning after news spread on social media. >> of a possible ice rain happening at chavez ravine. >> our businesses are hurting. our people are under attack. and the largest economic engine in this area. >> it's silent, but it was a false alarm. the dodgers team quickly issuing a next. this morning, ice agents came to

dodger stadium and requested permission to access the parking lots. they were denied entry to the grounds by the organization. tonight's game will be played as scheduled. but it was an ice. the agency quickly replying with the words false. turns out the agents were california border patrol, homeland security clearing up the matter, saying this had nothing to do with the dodgers. cbp vehicles were in the stadium parking lot very briefly unrelated to any operation or enforcement. same irony, we have an immigration system right? >> our entire economy for agriculture, for restaurants, for construction is build off of immigration, work. and at the same time with using and using these immigrants, the dodgers, you these immigrants and put them out in in as the face of the team. and according to our network affiliate news nation, california border patrol went to the hollywood home depot nearby to make apprehensions today. >> after they did, they were going to transfer those in custody to transport vans off a sunset boulevard. but when

things escalated outside a home depot, they went to an open parking lot of dodgers stadium to make the consolidated transfer. nonetheless, the scene adding fuel to the fire with fans and community groups still waiting for the dodgers organization to publicly address the situation while other teams like la fc quickly issued statements, the dodgers states silent until now. and i think that specifically raids and everything and seeing so many people terrorize like this is >> just terrible and frankly un-american. >> that was alina abovian reporting. another big story we're following is pg and preemptively shutting off people's power because of the weather. the high winds, the low humidity, the pick areas indicate areas where pg e has already shut off power. hundreds of customers in the east bay specifically clayton in livermore are affected. pga does these when you have the right conditions said you don't want to start fires in one area that had the lights

turned off is in the livermore valley east of the downtown area. but as kron four's, dan kerman tells us many of the businesses in that area were prepared. >> and they're keeping their doors open. >> but i know if you can hear that sound, but it's a portable generator and they're very prevalent over this part of the livermore valley. the winds and the livermore valley were being whipped into a frenzy thursday afternoon, which is one of the main reasons p g is shut off power in the area in hopes of reducing the risk of downed power lines causing a wildfire. >> we can't really do anything about it. it's for safety. so as long as we have all the right measurements and can prepare. we just do what we gotta mcgrail vineyards had its power shut off at 09:30am, in the morning. but wine tasting was in full swing despite the lack of power and will continue to be thanks to this generator is powering every function at the winery needs. refrigerators, lights, computers, printers. >> everything to make day-to-day operations work.

well, mcgrail vineyards has seen its power shut off before. this is the first time the livermore valleys, purple orchid resort and spa gone dark. the owners of the purple or could have been here for 14 years. and this is one of our notifications from pg e that we are having a power shut off. so something new but not something we're not prepared for. but the purple orchid had multiple generators ready to go for basic services and more will soon be arriving to power up the entire place through the weekend. we have our days property that's in full service today. we've got our hotel with all of our rooms booked and wedding this weekend that we plan on. >> preparing for similar preparation was also in place for many other businesses in this area. >> which is comprised mostly, of course, ranch's cattle ranch vineyards and wineries. so this power shut off a certainly an inconvenience to be sure. but many of these businesses have prepared for it and plan for and they're ready to see it through and keep the doors open until it's

over. >> in the livermore valley, dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> we'll continue on fire. crews said knock down a grass fire. it was in brentwood today. 6 people were displaced. started about one 30 on sunrise drive. fire officials say one home sustained heavy damage. 3 sheds were damaged to ad use were damaged. 10, one home that moderate damage. the red cross is assisting. the 6 people who were displaced. it's not clear what caused the fire. >> a large wildfire in antioch is now contained. but residents are dealing with a different mess. take a look. all holmes here are now covered in bright pink fire retardant covers their homes in the streets outside the black diamond mines, regional preserve this backyard was spared from the flames of last night's fire. thanks to a summit ditch separating the home from the charred black hills. another person we spoke with says what concerns him the most about this area is the aging community members.

>> gets windy around here. so the fire was really chasing down in a room with from what i understand the 3 older people up the street that had to go to hospital for smoke inhalation. so >> because it was pretty thick. >> despite that mess that was left behind here, residents to say they're very grateful their homes are still standing, of course, and they plan to stay vigilant in case another fire sparks new strict fire safety standards are now in place for the city of berkeley city council unanimously adopted the new fire code amendments this week. >> the so-called amber plan and everything flammable from within 5 feet of homes and high-risk fire areas that includes trees, shrubs, vegetation, some kinds of fencing and other potentially flammable items. the ordinance is focusing on about 900 to 1000 homes in the panoramic hill and grizzly peak fuel break area as well as neighborhoods adjacent to tilden regional park. neighbors now have fewer than

12 months to get in compliance. if not, they could be fined as much as $500 a day. that'll add up quickly as we take a live look here at a dry mount diablo. all of the hills very, very brown right now. gail, we've got >> some strong winds going on. what's the deal this evening? now? we are still tracking. >> fire weather. and as we know stock you rush fires pop up this week and even some today. >> and we are windy out there and of course, dry. here's a fire weather model. as you can see, it's lit up at the 06:00pm hour. so there still anywhere between a moderate to even high risk, especially over by livermore. you see that pocket of orange close to red color. that is where dan kerman was reporting in where the power was shut off. so we see it. we look okay overnight. but then as we get into the daytime heating tomorrow that elevated fire weather comes right back. so we're not out of the woods yet. we don't have a watch or warning. we will have one for fairfield and vallejo in our

coverage area on saturday and sunday. no actual warning. so we're kind of near the critical fire weather. but as we saw yesterday, brush fires can pop up and with strong winds that could fan those flames that were breezy tonight. but we this wind is not going anywhere. we have that wind sticking around until at least saturday and we're cooler today. that's the other weather story may notice to drop and we're about yeah, 20 plus degrees down in livermore concord. so we're going to be cooling down for a bit for the start of the weekend. vote warm at that is ahead. i'll have details on the 7 day forecast. >> thank you, gayle. labor organizers and union members gathered to celebrate juneteenth in san francisco today. the international longshore and warehouse union local 10. >> held an event today at their headquarters. the union has a long history of activism with honorary members, including angela davis and martin luther king junior leaders used their speeches today to highlight the progress and activism of the black community. they also called for solidarity with workers everywhere in the fight for equality.

street partnered with market street arts to put on the first an staged of the year in san francisco. the entertainment zone will celebrate juneteenth featuring black artists, musicians, fashion designers, and more. we have to continue to raise the visibility of our communities. we have to continue celebrate our diversity, but specifically our freedom and our liberation that switching teams about juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. commemorating the day enslaved people in galveston, texas, found out they had been freed in 18. 65 2 and a half years after the signing of the emancipation proclamation. i asked hollins about the importance of the holiday happening. >> the same year that president trump has ordered diversity, equity and inclusion be removed from federal programs in schools. even if you don't think you're directly impacted any time. our constitutional rights as americans are being >> violated. whether you're here, whatever your status is, then i think we should all be very concerned because there's no one group that gets affected that want to thank everyone else. last year, juneteenth gatherings in oakland's lake merritt resulted in sideshows in the

the temperatures are cooler today about 20 plus degrees cooler in a livermore and conquer down to the 60's. now or yesterday. the highs were in the 90's, low 60's in oakland and then we upper 50's in san francisco, upper 60's over in san jose and still cool in the 50's over by half moon bay. so some of the peak wind gusts so far, we're at 50 miles per hour over by of the altamont pass. that's where we're seeing, you know, that psps sfo and oakland airport. but over at the coast ocean beach. 44 miles per hour, jose. 25 miles per hour. wind gusts so far. but we are between these up this pressure gradient, low pressure, high pressure there. and that's what's creating these breezy conditions and cooler conditions. cooler ocean air. definitely feel that chill in the winds today and the winds still here and talk like ali saturday. so tomorrow we could even see stronger wind gusts upwards of 30 to 40 plus mph. winds. so notice the cloud so that is what's going to help

keep things cool at night. and when i come back, will check out the 7 day forecast because restart summer tomorrow. but it's the down to the 70's. and then next week we look warmer back to the 90's. maybe. well, that's so but the fog is coming in just a summer starting which yeah, about right for a thank thank you. >> in the east bay, hundreds of families of murder victims are coming together for a powerful event this weekend. kron four's joey quarters in san leandro to explain what's plant. >> with a mom who started this says she's on a mission to help others after losing her own sons to violence. she says while the pain never goes away, walking out here helps her cope with the trauma. ryan taylor's life would change forever in february of 2000, her twin sons, awful day and diet taylor were both shot and killed with an ak. 47 in oakland just 22 years old. she says when their world came to an end, so did hers. after years of battling depression,

taylor return her pain the purpose by 1000 mothers to prevent violence, she would form a support group reaching out to others who lost a child to violence. and it's been really hard. >> to relive. that day. but i got that call. no one wants to get a car like that. and so we are just looking for ways to. support one another. walking this one way. that's the way i. and i deal with my grief related. threats. >> jessica king getter was a talented ballerina and aspiring journalists, a would-be rapist after 60 times in oakland in 2012 shots he baker is the mom. she leaves behind. >> i forgave the murder. her daughter for gave the murder. we move on. but to walk together to embody healing

>> for your help tonight, a new report says wildfires could increase the spread of flu or covid. yeah, smoke from these fires tends to drive people indoors. and the study published in the lowest climate says when folks are packed into enclosed spaces, airborne illnesses are more likely to spread between them as we have come to know, researchers looked at fires in oregon and washington state in 2020 and found a 16% increase in indoor activity at those times. computer models showed an increase in the spread of flu or covid under such conditions. but we should note in twenty-twenty there is no vaccine. researchers suggest people wear masks indoors, too, protect yourselves and others. if you are sick. >> ice baths. they are normally touted as a natural way to lose weight. but a new study says they may actually cause the opposite. researchers at coventry university in the uk say ice baths may increase your

appetite, causing you to eat more. volunteers took 30 minutes oaks and tubbs said at 95, 79 61 degrees. after that, they had all you can eat pasta. researchers say those in the coldest water, 8, 2, 100 extra calories. the study says ice baths and cold plunges can cause serious health risks as well, including hypothermia drowning or even cardiac arrest as the body fights, i shock. us alcohol consumption guidelines could be changing for the first time in more than 30 years. the trump administration reportedly planning to scrap the longstanding recommendations. those guidelines currently advise men to have no more than 2 drinks a day and women no more than one. the new policy could instead recommend people drink in moderation. this would mark a reversal of a biden era push to consider adopting stricter canadian style limits of just 2 drinks per week. some studies have

>> on this juneteenth holiday, more than 160 years since slaves were freed. state lawmakers in california's legislative black caucus say more work is still needed to ensure reparations can become a reality. they have introduced what is called the road to repair. >> that plan includes a dozen bills to help california descendants of enslaved black americans and the black community. >> if you don't know your history, you're doomed to repeat and so what these bills do is to help. repair those harms by establishing lineage and allowing for an agency to be established where you can go and actually have some of those harms repaired or restore. this year's bill package does not include propose direct cash payments to descendants of the enslaved. >> republicans are pushing forward with their budget bill, even as there are divisions within the party about how drastic some of the cut should be. our washington correspondent trevor shirley is in dc with more.
