>> good morning and thanks for waking up with us on a friday. i'm darya and i'm james. we've got lots going on this weekend for folks that are going to the metallica concert going to teach celebrations. there's the reptile show happening in the south or just hanging out because it's summer now. yeah, finally writes final kind of weather we've got in store. hey, kathy. >> well, its going to be a beautiful day, but there is a fly in the ointment. we have a near critical fire weather threat in some parts of the bay area. that would be especially the east bay inland areas in the hills with grasses and also parts of the south bay. this is a santa clara hills. so there's a concern not because of the temperatures, because frankly, it's not going to be a hot day as even some clouds in the skies around half moon bay, santa clara, san mateo county coastline. that is they'll clear out temperatures will be of a lot like yesterday. it's not just hot such as we had the day before. it'll be below normal. temperatures, but it's all about the winds and low relative humidity. and that's what triggers a fire concerns for today. and tomorrow. and

by sunday, the winds start to relax a little bit. and that's good news in terms of fire weather. let's take a look at these numbers and look at these gusty winds as you see the reds and magenta is that signifies really gusty winds coming out of the northwest. that's this afternoon. even overnight tonight we have very gusty winds. and then tomorrow afternoon, again, very gusty concerns. temperature trends will start to warm things up by monday. but that's okay because the winds won't be as strong rania. how's the traffic? all right. hey, we're smooth sailing on bridges, especially it's a good time to help doors if you need to get some things done. i'm a rich commute about 40 minutes there just under 14 on our san mateo bridge. the richmond, sandra fell down from 18 to 14. so you're making some progress. golden gate bridge. 20 minutes. and if you are taking bart this weekend, you need to know between walnut creek and concord. they're not going to our trains. so if you do need to take that, they're going provide in free buses. darya. james, back to you. >> all right. thank you. grant it to breaking news this morning. the chp at the scene right now of a fatal crash on

southbound highway 101. it happened just before 2.50, this morning, right near the ralston avenue off-ramp. one vehicle was involved. no word yet on the cause of the crash or how many people were inside that vehicle. the coroner's office, though, is investigating and will keep you updated throughout the morning as we learn more 802, and big developing news this morning. a legal win for president trump over governor newsom. a federal appeals court ruled in the president's favor. yeah. when it comes to keeping the national guard deployed. >> down in los angeles with kron four's will tran live in san francisco is reactions coming in. will. >> governor gavin newsom said president skews me governor gavin newsom said president trump did not have the authority to call in the california national guard that it overstepped his authority. and the governor was right for about one week. then last night. but u.s. court of appeals, the 9th circuit said no, the president does have

power to do so. and the unanimous decision and it breaks down to 3 judges, 2 of them, trump appointees, the other one biden appointee, they all voted to say that president trump did not the national guard called in e to los angeles. so right now, those 4,000 members are still able to be there. the president said that he needed to call in the national guard after watching what he called an invasion of los angeles. the governor did not want the national guard to be called in saying it actually escalated the situation and that's why he took this to court last week. the lower court agreed with the governor and then the court of appeals late last night agreed with the president. take a look at your screen. of course, we live in a day when everybody has a social media. so >> reaction was instantaneous. what region the full details of what the president had to say. but here's a little bit of it. he says big win in the 9th circuit court of appeals

on the president's. >> core power to call in the national guard. he says if our cities and our people need give it to them should state o - and local police be unable for whatever reason to get the job done. now, governor newsom, he also responded and just as importantly, attorney general rob bonta. he also took to social media. he says while it is disappointing that our temporary restraining order has been stayed pending. the federal government's appeal. this case is far from over. we will remain confident in our arguments and we will continue the fight and he's absolutely d% right. because according to legal experts, they believe this is far from over. if you consider this a boxing match first round went to newsom. second round went to trump, but they believe this will make its way all the way to the u.s. supreme court. a small defeat for the president. i have to tell you this, because the president

believe that he did not need the court's permission, that it's not in the courts right to even look into this case. the 3 judges said, yes, they do have the authority to always this particular decision. >> all right. thanks a lot. well. >> it is 805. and right now, several east bay communities are without power because of the fire risk that kathy was talking about pg e implemented their public safety power shutoff program in the areas that you see there highlighted in pink. that includes communities in alameda contra costa and santa clara counties pg e will do this, shut off power to their lines when they anticipate high winds and dry conditions and an elevated fire risk. they don't want their power lines coming down. it's sparking a fire. so they turn off the power. >> and a half hours expected to be out all weekend. they don't think it will be restored until sunday at 04:00pm. yeah. and you can imagine that's going to be problematic for people and for businesses, especially out in the livermore valley. we've got kron four's dan kerman.

they're talking to how businesses are coping. >> but i know if you can hear that sound, but it's a portable generator and they're very prevalent over this part of the livermore valley. winds and the livermore valley were being whipped into a frenzy thursday afternoon, which is one of the main reasons p g is shut off power in the area in hopes of reducing the risk of downed power lines causing a wildfire. >> we can't really do anything about it. it's for safety. so as long as we have all the right measurements and can prepare. we just do what we gotta mcgrail vineyards had its power shut off at 09:30am, in the morning. but wine tasting was in full swing despite the lack of power and will continue to be thanks to this generator is powering every function at the winery needs. refrigerators, lights, computers, printers, everything to make day-to-day operations work. well, mcgrail vineyards has seen its power shut off before. >> this is the first time the livermore valleys, purple

orchid resort and spa gone dark. the owners of the purple or could have been here for 14 years. and this is one of our notifications from pg e that we are having a power shut off. so something new but not something we're not prepared for. but the purple orchid had multiple generators ready to go for basic services and more will soon be arriving to power up the entire place through the weekend. we have our days property that's in full service today. we've got ou- hotel with all of our rooms booked and wedding this weekend that we plan on. >> preparing for similar preparation was also in place for many other businesses in this area. >> which is comprised mostly, of course, ranch's cattle ranch vineyards and wineries. so this power shut off a certainly an inconvenience to be sure. but many of these businesses have prepared for it and plan for and they're ready to see it through and keep the doors open until it's over. >> in the livermore valley, dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> 808, right now. and there's a grass fire that broke out in

brentwood and it did reach some broke out about one 30 in the afternoon at sunrise drive near highway 4. and damage to homes and a shed and the fire has been knocked down. they put it out there investigating the cause and they're about 6 people that have been displaced now. so the red cross is helping them. we also have good news in an update on the fire that we covered yesterday here on the kron. ng smoky blaze that hit a neighborhood that didn't make it any homes and you can see they were hit with fire retardant. so they're cleaning that up this morning. but luckily that fire is all-out now. it broke out near the black diamond mines regional park. and you can see just how close the smoke and flames came to these homes. but they were spared because of the firefighters. good work. and now you can see all of the residents working to clean that up. they're just happy that they're okay. >> gets windy around here. so the fire was really chasing down in a room with from what i understand the 3 older people up street that had to

go to hospital for smoke inhalation. so because it was pretty thick. >> and you can see how thick it was and how close it came to that neighborhood. so everybody is very grateful that no lives were lost nor any property. >> and we ask you now to please join us in a moment of silence. you know, lorenzo is memory. >> in the south bay community comes together to remember a teen who died in a crash. 17 year-old alonzo alvarez died in a crash in hollister back on june 14th. he was actually driving home from graduation at christopher high school in gilroy. his family and friends and neighbors held a candlelight vigil in his memory. according to the gofundme page, set up for the family. alvarez was the youngest of 3 and he had dreams of becoming a firefighter. also happening today, the chp searching for the driver of this car. officers tried to pull them over for illegal window tint,

burn off. it will be a cool day. temperatures will not be anywhere near seasonal normals across the bay area. >> we even have a few clouds right there said coastline. look how quickly evaporate. and then we're just we're gone. we're going to very clear skies. and in because of the winds and low relative humidity, that's why we have the near critical fire weather concerns look at this. they receive the areas of the reds and the purples. that's the strongest winds. look how they approach 50 mile per hour gust. 44 mile per hour gusts and the deck of a all the way over toward the livermore valley. we have very gusty winds and they die down only partially overnight. often we really die down overnight. but gosh, at 03:15am, in the morning, still nearly 40 mile per hour winds and some of the coastal locations. so tomorrow afternoon, another gusty day. so tomorrow afternoon, concerns again for fire weather and also it's low relative humidity, especially in parts of the east bay. that's where we're concerned for hills with all the grasses. 29 mile per 29%

relative humidity in fairfield 34% concord. 35% santa rosa. it's not good. that's pretty low. and that is a concern because that could really help fuel a fire. so we're hoping that we don't have any fire concerns because hopefully it will all be careful. here's what's keeping us so cool. it's a big trough. big area of low pressure stretching all the way across the golden state. and that will be for quite a few days. so we will have a cool start to summer. after all, summer starts tonight. 7.42 tomorrow that starts the first full weekend of summer. great shape. but it will be on the cool side. even in the center of the state central valley. cool temperatures today. nothing triple digits. hardly any 90's is pretty much in the 80's with the 60's and 70's even 50's right along the coast have the same pattern in the bay area. 50 60's coast side 60's 70's inland, perhaps a few 80's. it's going to be a beautiful day. we're going to start to see it. the slightest warm-up as we head into saturday and sunday. but nothing dramatic. that's the deal from weather. how about traffic right now?

delta fire. weather concerns this weekend from saturday morning through sunday morning. so that's a big concern there. we do have concerns right here in the bay area. again because of the low relative humidities. and because of those gusty winds that the fog is not going to help, it's going just clear out very quickly. so not a lot of moisture to work with low relative humidities around 30% in some parts of the east bay. so we'll have a lot more coming up in weather right now to rein in for traffic. and even that we got an accident. the salon northbound 6.80, south of road that's down and fremont. so things are slow right behind that crash. 8.80, a good option for navigating around that. they weren't going right now at the limit. look at that 12 minutes. well, your san mateo bridge about 13, you're a december feel is that well golden gate bridge around 20 minutes and over the weekend, if you're taking bart, no train service between walnut creek and concord. they're doing some repairs and some train work there so they will be providing a free bus. instead. back to 31 right now,
