>> back to our top story this half-hour, multiple bay area neighborhood seeing planned power outages due to an increased wildfire risk that time season again, the areas here in purple represent. >> spots where these preemptive power shutoffs are in effect right now. you've got communities in alameda contra costa and santa clara counties pg e triggers these. when you have the high winds, the low humidities and it's that time of year, you know, you don't want tree limbs to fall on power lines and all the sudden you have a big fire. >> officials say they do expect to turn power back on by tomorrow afternoon. a lot crossing their fingers for that kron four's lindsey ford. >> reports we need to charge cards. we need to feed people, food we need to power of. and so. >> not having power is a big problem for us when it comes to running the business. >> in livermore, ellie when t the senior vp of marketing and

hospitality for when t family vineyards lost power on thursday, she says losing power in the sycamore grove nature. park area is not so they used their generators but we didn't have enough generators to completely power. everything we needed to do as a business, specifically charging all of our golf carts overnight. so we had to go get additional generators today. we had to bring these allowed to re feel everything. it's been an incremental cost to the business to keep these things going in livermore pg e has set up a community resource center for those affected by the power shut offs. >> charging stations even bags like this filled with water, snacks, blankets and even portable chargers all available to those affected by the psps pg e has temporarily shut off power in alameda county and contra costa county. all in all, it's under 1000 customers throughout the bay area. >> warm weather combined with windy conditions can cause downed trees to topple over

power lines. when that happens, that's when there is that possibility of a power outage or even something that could lead to a wildfire. >> and debris flying through the air can get caught up in electrical equipment with a psps. what we have to do is allow the weather event to pass before we can start inspecting our lines. more customers are expected to experience a second wave of the power shut offs this weekend when t says they're prepared for the worst and will have their generators ready if needed. >> we have a good team and we were able to do it and we just hope our guests come along for the journey with us. it's an adventure having no power. >> in livermore, lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> some developing news now. firefighters have gained control of a grass fire burning in the south bay. flames sparked around 2.30 in the area of galveston avenue and summer side drive. this is right near coyote creek. it was a pretty small one. jose fire department says it was around 2 to 3 acres in size and again, crews have

contained those flames. no evacuation orders were issued. the department says nearby schools also were not threatened. still not clear, though, what started that blaze incredibly windy this week and it has not abated as we take a live look here. you can kind of feel and see the camera shaking on the top of mount tam. >> always an indicator gayle of those winds are. yes, deaf. that camera always verify forecast. >> and we do have some breezy conditions as we speak. and it was like this yesterday and this win. >> looks like it will stick around into early saturday. so let's take a look at the fire weather map. this is that red flag warning. as you can see, most of the state here now it's not directly in the bay area, but you can see the sierra has some fire weather and thus a greater sacramento area. and the fresno area. but this does include a fairfield and valais. whoa, this is for saturday morning into sunday morning just because it's so dry and windy out there. a

live look here in san francisco. you some breezy conditions. the winds have calmed down a bit. here are some of the wind speeds from about midnight today. 56 miles per hour over at the altamont pass. it's that close to where the psps is our as a fo 51 miles per hour. 41 miles per hour over at oakland airport, san jose gusting at 28 miles per hour today. and here are the current wind speeds and this is at the surface. we're pretty breezy. so at 32 miles per hour here in oakland. now, this is that on shore flow here. so you may notice a chill in the air with these breezy conditions. now, yesterday was really the big drop in the temperatures. today we are about 9 degrees down in places like santa rosa. a few degrees at different one to 3 degrees. a difference today and overnight, we don't see that marine layer rolling in so that, well, you know, play a part in why we have those fire warnings in our surrounding areas here, mostly sunny tomorrow. temperatures highs in this upper 70's but breezy conditions. now, the second

part of your weekend, we warm up just a bit and looks like those winds will back off for sunday and some warmer temperatures come monday. back to you. >> thanks, kill. firefighters tonight are still mopping up and keeping an eye on hot spots. 2 days after that fire in antioch torched 350 acres threatened several homes. kron four's philippe djegal has the latest. >> trucks and engines making passes through the black diamond mines. regional preserve friday, crews monitoring burned out hillsides and running hose lines along the preserve just in case planes rekindle. we will have a presence in this area for the citizens of this area. just rest assured we have lots of resources that are close by the contra costa county fire protection district worked with cal fire and the east bay regional park district to prevent the fire from reaching homes. but at one point shortly after it started wednesday night, evacuation warning was issued for the 150 homes threatened then quickly canceled. now on

drivers facing elder abuse charges after police say he hit a 69 year-old guy repeatedly with this car. prosecutors say it was last saturday during the no kings march on market street. they say we'll weigh lay and attempted to drive through the crowd near laguna street. he was blocked by a protester who put his hands on the tesla's hood, according to the da's office and did not stop instead accelerated into the victim, pushing him onto the hood of the tesla. the victim suffered a big in broken toes. the suspect has pleaded not guilty. he'll be in court on monday. some americans are changing their minds about health care coverage for undocumented immigrants. and now that federal covid-relief has ended and states actually spending is higher than projected. we're seeing governors rolling back coverage. >> including here in california newsnation's mills. hayes reports. some americans are rethinking whether or not

they want to provide health care coverage to undocumented immigrants. that is funded by the government. >> states they have dealt with and into federal covid relief funding as well as some states spending more money than they're bringing in that led to some states cutting back health care coverage for undocumented immigrants, including states like california, where governor gavin newsom says that he's always supported universal health care. >> i believe in universal health care. inconsistent going back to my days as mayor the news, a madman projected medical finding for undocumented californians would cost 6 billion dollars. new projections say it could cost 9.5 billion dollars. >> newsom now wants to freeze new enrollment in medi-cal for undocumented adults. existing patients can stay, but even they could see benefits cut. a new poll shows that 58% of californians oppose providing coverage to undocumented immigrants, which is a big change from years prior when a

majority of people supported the idea, republicans say there's just not enough money in the state budget. we simply cannot afford it. >> and it's certainly not just to put the health coverage poor californians, elderly, disabled, young children at risk because california politicians wants to give free handouts to people who are not even citizens here in illinois. governor jb pritzker is taking it even further ending the immigrant adult health program entirely on july. first, it launched in 2021 and currently covers over 30,000 people. minnesota is also pulling back kicking undocumented adults off minnesota care by the end of the pundits say it's not the governor's values that have changed, but cash flow. all 3 states are facing budget shortfalls and there's new pressure from washington, including a federal bill that would cut funding to states covering undocumented immigrants. the cutbacks have sparked outrage from immigrant rights groups. they say that

last couple of days. all these colors here overnight in the red and some purple out there that indicates anywhere from 30 to 40 plus miles per hour. wind gusts and that stick around tomorrow. this is around this time tomorrow. and then it looks like the winds back off a bit on sunday. so the 2nd half of your weekend you'll get a break from the winds overnight. we don't see a lot of cloud cover. so be mostly clear into the overnight hours and into the morning and mostly sunny in the afternoon. with that, we are keeping an eye on some elevated fire danger. now there is a red flag warning for the sacramento area and parts of the central valley end of the sierra. but for the bay area, it's really vallejo and fairfield. but this map here, this right now say around 6 o'clock and we see it some risk there. but overnight we get a break from that fire risks. but once the daytime heating kicks in tomorrow, we see a those the yellows pop-up. so that indicates we could see some brush fires. and we have seen that pop this week overnight lows that going to be waking up to the low

50's, maybe some upper 40's in the north bay and santa rosa and napa. here are the highs tomorrow for the first weekend of summer. we have some 70's in livermore, 80's and conquered and more low 70's along the east bay shoreline and some low 60's upper 50's over by the coastline. and speaking of the seasons change is we are leaving a spring now. the vernal equinox. so we are leaving this in about 2 hours or so of starting 07:42pm. we will be entering the summer solstice officially. so what this means it means today is actually the longest day of the year. so we could see about 14. point 5, 0, of sunlight. so long days here in the northern hemisphere. and that's going to be a really nice weather, though, over the next few days. so we're kind of like in the spring-like weather still. but come next. couple of days. we'll start to see some low 80's pop. up next week, more
