base in qatar today. >> in retaliation for that american bombing of iran's nuclear sites over the weekend to come for us. rob nesbitt joins us live in the newsroom with some reaction from a local expert on the middle east. rob grant. president trump's post claims the cease-fire will start at about 09:00pm saying israel will start the cease-fire. iran will follow and the conflict between the 2 will be ended on its 12th day. >> this is video showing missiles flying through the air in an attempt to strike one of 2 u.s. air bases in qatar. news nation is reporting about 19 missilis fired. the attacks came shortly after qatar closed its airspace as a precaution amid threats from iran, the missiles were intercepted and u.s. officials have reported no deaths. iran says it targeted the base because it's outside of a populated area. university of san francisco director of middle eastern studies. ms says monday's bombing was largely symbolic and that the concern now is what could happen next.

also in contra costa county, an evacuation warning was issued this afternoon for diablo residents because of this fire and alert from the contra costa county community warning system advise residents between blackhawk road in green valley trail and blow to prepare to evacuate. this is near case trail. the time lapse video here shows you some of the smoke 5 acres burned in this case and no evacuation order was eventually. issued. but they wanted people to be ready to go, which is always a good idea. as we take a live look here at mount diablo, it is dry. still windy today. kyla grogan, but maybe not as windy as last week. definitely knows what last week has just started to pick up really inland. you can see now are up to 20 miles per hour in oakland. it really was not that when those fires broke out, we were 5 to 10 miles per hour, basically over in the east bay. so >> we love our firefighters. they got on it. they got on those fires and they are successful today. and it's really good timing because as

you can see, again, this wind will pick up. it's our normal seabreeze. it is coming from the ocean meeting that we do get a little moisture recovery. >> and that would be a good thing because right now take a look at a spotlight. concord. right now, we're just at 22% relative humidity. that means things are dry. so, you know, glad to see that everything kind of worked out that way. here is the marine layer to the rescue. look at this. it is just filled in. i was seeing san francisco just a few moments ago, but you can see our suture tower camera is now very much showing you the marine layer that is on the move. so temperatures out of the coast have been kept a lid on 55 degrees out at half moon bay, san francisco at 60. but you can see we did get up to about 87 in livermore. so some spots certainly warming up a little bit above average today. there's that marine layer. it is on the move. and tonight we will see some of that patchy fog around the bay. obviously kind of building up more out of the coastline. temps between about 47 and 60 degrees. as we get into our evening, starting off a little cloudy tomorrow, grant will be a little bit cooler to morrow. have those details coming up. >> all right. thank you, cuyler. look forward to that. name up. san francisco sheriff's office chief of

staff. richard, you has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a hit and run the district attorney announced you was charged with that hit and run and filing a false police report. both misdemeanors, according to court records. this happened when he was off duty in march. he was driving a sheriff's vehicle. he's accused of leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a parked car on diamond heights boulevard near duncan street. investigators say he waited 2 weeks to report the accident and when he did, he claimed he was the victim of a hit and run crash. the car that was hit was a total loss. he's due back in court thursday. in the north bay. cal fire is giving the public an up close look at some of the aircraft will be used to fight wildfires in the months ahead. and kron four's charles clifford is at then at the airport with more. >> the cornerstone of cal fire's ability to respond quickly to a wildfire. our aircraft like the one you see behind me here and they are predicting a long, hot, dry fire season may say these tools are more important than

said the u.s. air base in qatar and now news of a potential cease-fire to help understand what all this means. the chair of sonoma state's political science department professor david mccuan us joining us live. good evening, david. well, good evening. it's a pleasure to join you. grant always good to see you a run. gave the u.s. a heads up that its retaliatory strike was coming. do you view this as as a largely symbolic gesture from iran and you think this is the end of the violence, at least for now? yeah. i mean, there's a couple of things here. this is as good an outcome as the trump administration could expect to or could game out. >> you have this largely perfunctory strike. it's a big deal that day. target us u.s. bases. that's correct. but that's because iran's in a very weak position. so this signaling that goes on here, even though there's a loss of that, what's called a deterrence effect, the signaling that goes on here by the iranians is an important

element to provide an off-ramp to begin negotiations. the israeli still fundamentally control. iranian space to have air superiority. that will continue to be the case. but for the trump administration, this provides them an opportunity to move past this crisis. but don't forget, this is really fundamental world game-changing event, not just for the middle east, but an inflection point for the trump presidency. it's that combination that that leads to this powerful outcome for the trump administration. but there are still many, many challenges relationship to the iranians and the middle east. >> the president ran on getting out of wars, ending wars that existed and not starting additional wars. what do you think compelled him to at least momentarily for one day. go against that. >> yeah, i mean, look that there's reporting that the israelis and bibi netanyahu decided last year that they needed to attack the iranian nuclear facilities. they needed to end this issue once and for all. it's unclear that

that that happened because iranian attempts to move the uranium and ordeal with sealing a the ford row facility on the 19th and 20th june. but nonetheless, what changed? the dynamic is a belief in the trump administration that they this was the best moment they would get. there's also kind of an important element here, grant about the calendar. there's a lots of diplomacy going on behind the scenes. the europeans are in a strong position of the russians are weekend. the chinese have given mixed signals about this. france and the united kingdom. for example, have until october to really sanctions. and in the october timeframe, it could help the iranian government. it could help the europeans. so there's a lot of things converging here for this momentary pause. but nonetheless, you would expect that the iranians would come back and do something. it just may be years long in the process months long as opposed to this immediate crisis being averted.

>> one real element of leverage iran does have is the potential to affect oil gas prices here in the u.s. to see that happening. >> we don't see that happening in terms of the straits, her moves. and that's because the united states is position too. carrier groups there. the persian gulf itself is relatively shallow. it's like a giant bathtub. so it's easy to understand what's going on in that area. it's not doesn't mean it's an easy mission. but in terms of mines encounter mine measures that that does provide an opportunity. what donald trump asked also worry about, i think, is not just what's going on in that area. but what's going on with the maga movement? he still controls that movement. and as a result, he can repair some of that damage. see domestic policy component to this. you have foreign policy component to this and you have kind of security policy that oversees all of that as this crisis is averted and more developments come in the next couple of months. >> you worry about the soft targets here in the u.s. that iran might strike them. i mean, you have the pride parade coming up here on sunday. >> we have the pride parade coming up right around the

corner of 4th of july. and, you know, in in, you know, you had al qaeda and al qaeda proxies that were in the famous london 7, 7 attacks back in 2005, they're all elements that provide vulnerability. but you've also seen incredibly enhanced security measures in new york city and washington, d.c., and boston and major cities across the united states. but nonetheless, that is the nightmare scenario by proxies or by these kind of sleeper cells, the united states to pay close attention to that. this crisis again averted. but it's not necessarily over because of this fundamental reset that sucker. >> all right. well, we will hope that the cease-fire and as the violence and that diplomacy takes over and that the world can be a safer, more stable place. david mcewan professor at sonoma state chair, their political science department. appreciate your time today. nice to see thank you very much. good to see you. all right. time to talk weather as we get a live look here at sfo where they are on the increased alert, given what's going on globally. we see the fog has rolled in a

meteorologist. kyla grogan is with us to let us know what's going on go. hey there. yeah. layer is on the move. you can see it here as we take a live look from the east bay. we've had some beautiful blue skies out there, but yet the marine layer there, it is kind of rolling in bringing some of that moisture and we'll take it a little moisture recovery. 67 degrees right now in oakland, wind is getting very gusty northwest winds about 26 miles per hour or so. >> this is the time of the afternoon when all of that is kicking up temperature wise, though, we're looking pretty good here, 60 in san francisco, but you can see we've got some upper 80's in nevado and it conquered 91 in fairfield. we made it to 87 in livermore little bit cooler down in the south bay. some of those low 80's there, but a pretty nice seasonal day out there in the wind, as i mentioned, is going to keep kicking as we get throughout the afternoon and the evening. it is our on-shore flow. it is that kind of afternoon sea breeze that comes in. >> and of course, it brings the marine layer. but tonight it will be interesting because not just the marine layer with some high clouds will come in as well. and that's kind of an indication of what tomorrow is going to be like. we're going to start off with cloudy skies

and some of that marine layer, some of that coastal drizzle. but look, as we get to the afternoon, it stays along the coast, but also kind of hangs out along the peninsula in the bay. looks like we don't really clear as quickly or as easily tomorrow. and that does lead to temperatures being a little bit cooler. it's all about that. low pressure, right? that's kind of rolling through there. but after that gets by then we have high pressure. you kind of zone all we can stay. and this really nice pattern of calm weather. you can see the marine layer there right now. as we zoom out, you can also see we've got some thunderstorms popping in the sierra because of that little bit of low pressure that has dipped in. but the story over the next 7 days really for us is after we cool down a little bit tomorrow. we warm right back up to seasonal temperatures and they're having a horrible, horrible heatwave on the east coast right now. i got the midwest and there's talk about triple digit numbers. so we are usually the envy of all the country right now. as far as weather's concerned, it's brutal. we both that family back there. yes, humidity a little. well, that's it. 95 in

overnights and, you know, we'll see marine layer stratus overnight into the mornings. it will clear out off it will mix out and we'll have a gradual warming trend into the weekend. so we're really in for a real treat temperatures right now about you'd expect 60 to san francisco, 78 in san jose. 87 in livermore. we got some warm spots such as concord at 89 degrees and 83 in santa rosa. so it's a beautiful day in the 50's in half moon bay. 53 degrees at this hour. you know what? the winds are not gusting in the way they had been the last number of really windy days. instead, it's about what you'd expect these afternoon gust, san francisco, 29 miles per hour. and you can see not a whole lot of those really strong in tomorrow afternoon. we'll see some fairly windy conditions in the rather more valley, but otherwise and that we're just in tranquil weather pattern. we'll try and keep it that way. what do you think? rent sounds good. thank you, kathy. sergeant with the los angeles police department was hit and killed as he tried to

>> well, let's talk weather as we get a live look above san francisco. you see some wispy clouds moving in and meteorologist kathy trafton is with us now to talk whether a catholic. >> well, greta, we are in for a beautiful week. it's the first full week of summer and we're in for a treat. no sizzling hot temperatures, not such as we're seeing back east. we are seeing what you would expect this time of year. some clouds and fog overnight burning off by midday or so mixing out. and we're also seeing some winds, some gusty winds, but nothing such as we saw last week when we had just crazy gusty winds. so it all portends well in terms of fire hazards because, you know, with his cool car com conditions, very little wind, lots of marine layer moving in its great news. so here we are. here's a view from sutro tower and you can see our wind gusts are about what you'd expect this time of year. most of the callers are in the blues and then a little bit gusty as you head right through the golden gate, flash of gustier winds tomorrow. but

all in all, we're in for absolutely beautiful weather. so the wind gusts are even with heading offshore a little bit as we head into friday. but you know what? it's very light winds. so that is the good news. so we're in pretty good shape in terms of that departure from normal or even a little bit below normal in some spots across the bay area. so we're in for we see the gray is normally see the blue little bit below normal and in terms of temperatures, well, we're looking at beautiful conditions and all in all, we're just looking at temperatures inland in the 70's and 80's and right along the coastline in the 50's and 60's. so we're in great shape there. and for the next number of days, we're going to see just ever so slight warming as we start to head into the workweek and into the weekend, no big changes. just just that gentle warming. and again, the clouds and fog in the morning, all burning off by the middle of the day. 7 day forecast shows that looking great conditions and as you start to head into the week, ysu're going to like it. things will cool down just a little bit as we head later into the week that. thank you, kathy. today
