>> yeah. did you use your windshield wipers decided it was drizzly. kind of misty. yeah. stratus is firmly in place. it is a typical summertime weather pattern. exactly what you might expect in late june. so here we are of the marine layer firmly in place. it will start to erode back toward the coastline. we'll see some sunshine inland about midday or so, but not everywhere. even in san francisco, we may not see a whole lot of sunshine, but of course, it will start to come back in in the late afternoon into tonight. so is that typical and flow of the stratus, which is fine temperatures right now, mainly in the 50's all across the bay area. few areas at the coastline. 49 degrees, half moon bay reporting some fog and there will be some gusty winds this afternoon as per usual. so hour by hour, it's slow to warm up, especially at the coastline. but we do warm up once we see a little bit of extra sunshine in the inland areas. back to you. all right. let's get a look at your morning commute. you are going to traveling out there right now. the meter lights are on. traffic is starting to build on the bay bridge this morning. they are still under

results, if these counts stand, he will be the new san jose city council member representing downtown. i was a little surprised by the early returns out feeling very heartened by all of the support from the community surprised as his opponent, debbie chavez, lopez had a commanding lead back in april. that lead was steamrolled tuesday. just 14% of voters turned out that they were determined to make their pvoices heard. politics is ver important because >> a look at the national level or anywhere else at the local levels where we really have the power to make change. i think the results tonight show folks are for a new type politics raging bull divide between business and labor is really focused on delivering results on housing, affordability and homelessness. perdio says his next steps are to build a team to deliver on his policies to solve homelessness and housing affordability. find areas of common ground so we can push forward actual policy to make progress on the issues that matter most to voters. district 3 first opened up in november with disgraced councilmember omar torres was arrested later convicted of child molestation toward says he plans to build back. trust to keep that focus on directly

enforcing the city's rv band that's now in full effect. issued another to trespassing citations, making a warrant arrests and issuing 8 other miscellaneous citations as well. >> san mateo county supervisors are moving forward with their plan to remove sheriff christina corpus from office at a board meeting last night. all 5 supervisors voted in favor of removing her. this after a report released last year accused her of creating a hostile and abusive work environment and of having an inappropriate personal relationship with her chief of staff. the sheriff has denied all the allegations and says she plans to appeal last night's decision. and if that happens, a final decision could be several months away. >> i'm not concerned with. >> the >> speed. what i'm concerned with is that it's a fair process. >> and i'm committed to ensure enough. the president, the board of supervisors. that's a

fair process and making sure that we move forward in the transparent and open way. >> sheriff corpus released a statement that reads in part, i am not going anywhere. i was elected by the people of san mateo county and i will continue to serve them with the integrity, courage and commitment that this office demands end quote. >> well, the union representing san francisco sheriff's deputies is calling for an investigation now into city and county jails in a post on social media. the union says that staffing was, quote at unhealthy levels and the jails were unsafe for both inmates and deputies. the sheriff's deputies association also claims that they're training centers, poorly equipped and buildings are outdated. meantime, the sheriff's office tells kron 4 that while staffing levels have been low, they saw their first increase in staffing levels last month. they also say staffing each county jail is more than 70%. in a

statement, the sheriff's office said, quote, this is an inherently dangerous job and politicial staffing diminishes some burdens. the dangerous still remain. both unions are copied on the staff report and hiring updates that are issued and quote. >> it's 606, in the east bay. the fallout continues this the the oakland school board's decision to remove its longtime superintendent oakland's naacp chapter is now demanding changes from the board kron four's dan kerman taking a look at that. so jen, making by the oakland board of education is once again being called out. we need the community to mobilize and we need to fight because what is happening at the school district level is comparable to what's happening at the cut at the national level. and it's not right. we're we're being parents are being pushed aside. our decisions are not being taken seriously or not. even considered even know the information at a news conference tuesday, parents and members of the oakland naacp.

>> it's going to cost you more for the 4th of july. if you travel, there is no disputing that. the dispute is how much it's going to cost this story has so many moving parts, but the bottom line is come july 1st, when you got a filler up, it will cost you more. no doubt about that. take a look at your screen as i try my best to break it down for us. simple as i possibly can. here's what you need to know right now. we are paying 59.6 cents excise tax come july first, it goes up 1.6 cents. so that'll be 61.2 cents. that's not a lot right. a lot of people can afford 1.6. here's where it could get tricky. there is a new carbon see mission ruled that goes into effect july that will force refineries to produce lower carbon emissions. could be as much as $0.65 per gallon. you following me

still, here's the thing. according to a lot of legal experts and gas experts, they believe there probably will not be that much because of oil prices. market forces, the refineries it could be theoretically $0.65 been more than likely. it could be anywhere between 5 and $0.10, maybe $0.12 on top of the 1.6 approximately, maybe $0.14 more per gallon come july 1st, let me quickly cycle through all the gas prices this morning in the bay area, you can see in napa county, you're looking at about $4 and $0.98. nothing above $5 in the bay area. let's go to another screen and on the bottom of that particular screen, you're looking at about $4 and $0.71. we are paying less this week than last week paying less this time than at the same time last year by approximately $0.24. but all those savings that goes away come july. 1st.

to inflict excessive force during a traffic stop back in 2019 and then lying about what happened on the record. the officer identified as mort has a merry also apparently cheated his way into a pay raise from the police department for university degree that he actually paid someone else to complete for him. 5 people, meanwhile, including 3 teenagers are under arrest in san jose after a series of burglaries and attempted carjackings. police say the crime spree happened between december and march using stolen cars to break into businesses after the burglaries. mayor matt mahan says the adults involved attempted to sell the stolen goods. sonoma county, meanwhile, is seeing a decline in its homeless population. the latest point in time, homeless count numbers are showing a decrease of 23% for people experiencing homelessness. the county says permanent housing projects for individuals with mental illness played a part in the decrease of those numbers. a full point in time report will be released more towards the end of summer. happening today in oakland, mayor barbara lee

is going to be joined by other city officials and community members to rename a street after iconic activist elaine brown. brown is a former black panther leader, the ceo of a nonprofit and in affordable housing developer. the street renaming will take place at noon on campbell street between 7th and 8th streets in west oakland. >> 15 and today road maintenance begins on the golden gate bridge. and it's going to be this way every wednesday until november, where the 2 center lanes are closed so that workers fix potholes and the asphalt as well. the maintenance starts this morning at 10:00am until 01:00pm. and again, that's every wednesday till november. and then the bridge will go back to the three-lane configuration outside of those maintenance hours. if the weather doesn't permit, though, then they're going to be doing lane closures on thursday. instead. >> they always blame the weather. don't pay things.

don't go right as the weather's fault. >> all right. today is a beautiful day. lots of stratus. here's a view from mount tam up high. she to see those low flat gray clouds. >> and here's the fog cast. here's our forecast products showing again, all the clouds right across entire bay area, of course, is a typical summertime weather pattern in late june. this is about what to expect these clouds and fog pulling right back toward the coastli%e. now, some areas will not see much sunshine today, including san francisco, perhaps looks like it's pretty much cured, but you see a little finger of fog. still heading right through the golden gate. so again, overnight we get more fog and clouds in stratus, but not thick blanket of clouds as we saw this morning. so temperatures right now mainly in the 50's and we're going to start to warm up slowly at the coastline because, of course, we have all that gray afternoon. high temperature. the almanac, typically we would expect 67 degrees in san francisco. we get 63. so a lot of areas are a little below normal courtesy of all the extra clouds and fog. the

three-day forecast shows an ever so slight warming trend. if you're in the inland areas even along the bay shoreline. >> and along the peninsula, we do see a warming trend as we go through time. not a big difference in the coastline, of course, as we head for the next 3 days, the weather headlines do show all the gray clouds typical late june weather pattern and we'll start to see cool nights overnight. we have some stratus and some fog right now in half moon bay. so we'll see little bit of mist and drizzle at times breezy afternoon conditions and a slight inland warming into the weekend should be absolutely beautiful. by the way, tonight, 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock. am the morning. there is a coastal flood advisory right around the san francisco bay as well as the san pablo bay shorelines. and so that's just for low lying area, such as parking lots, maybe a park. and if you see a barricade of florida are some water, it's 2 to astronomical high tides. not because we had the rain, not at all. but anyway, it's time for traffic now with reyna.

conflict between israel and iran may be happening thousands of miles away, but its impact could be felt here. leaders in the jewish and muslim communities are hoping that hatred and violence of any kind will be avoided as the war between israel and iran carries on faith. leaders in the u.s. are trying to keep the peace when unrest takes place in the middle east. it's felt here at home. and jeremy russell with the jewish community relations council bay area has seen it firsthand has been an increase in anti-semitism. there has been an increase in graffiti. >> there has been increase in vandalism and there's even been increase in violence. he says a jewish person was attacked in san francisco is marina district 2 weeks ago around the same time that man is in the mission was defaced with anti-semitic graffiti during an anti-ice protest. members of the muslim community are also on edge for us. it's all in the back of our mind. we invest in security cameras. zoo have sadiq with the islamic center of san francisco says islamophobia became extremely difficult after the attacks of 9.11, as well as after hamas attacked israel in 2023, the current political climate is

creating new cause for concern with islamophobia, politics with president trump and some of his residence nelson's. we have a lot of people. some of the ice actions we have summer came what the mosques? >> all out, right? because they're afraid you know, people are patient or being associated with the mosque in what is on the covid patients about sadiq says muslim mosques have been working with jewish temples to prevent tensions from rising, creating a mutual understanding that most americans would not understand given a lack of knowledge about the middle east, don't tolerate any type hate. we've sat with our jewish friends. we have shared if cars passover seders. >> lots of events that that really try to bring the community together and get a shared understanding. >> for for us locally. >> the fbi and department of homeland security issued warnings earlier this month about the risks of anti-semitism. the federal government did not issue warnings for the rest of islamophobia. despite calls from the muslim community. reporting in the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news.

course, dogs versus the mail carrier. and, you know, my dog loses his cool when the doorbell rings or you see someone coming up to the front door because it doesn't matter if it's ups delivery, whatever company, pizza guy, even he can't handle it and starts barking and trying to get at them is his job right? is territorial because trying to defend the house. that's what dogs do. but this is a big enough problem that the united states postal service is sending out a warning 6,000 dog bites or attacks involving mail carriers in 2024. nationwide over 700 of those aggressive encounters unfolding in california and 2 bay area cities are in the top 20 for the most dog bites. oakland comes in at number 8 team with 18 bytes. san francisco ties for the 17th worst city in the golden state with 20 bytes last year, one postal employee got seriously hurt when a 90 pound dog last on her arm.

>> incident i had about 11 years ago when i got hit, i was about to report someone's house to deliver their mail required a signature. and that's when the dog came from behind and that's on to my arm. need to put dog away us all it takes is that one there rushed. >> sandra fell. police and the post office are coming together to draw attention to this workplace hazard. mail facing postal workers trained to defend themselves from dog attacks, including using repellent. so if your dog bites a mail carrier can cost you thousands of dollars for medical expenses and lost wages. post office does have some tips for a dog owners to try to prevent anything from getting out of hand like what you just saw there. it's going to be talking to us about that coming up here in the next hour. for now, back to you. all right, joey, thank you. >> 6 33 and in the east bay, a former antioch police officer is going to prison for 7 years for misusing his canine to

this year. this gang of juveniles behind the wheel cause chaos and fear in our community rapidly targeting san jose, santa clara and sunnyvale. they stole cars, carjack citizens race through city streets smashed through more than 15 storefronts crash cars guns at police officers. >> police have also identified 3 of their teenagers. they suspect is part of this crime spree. those teens had already been arrested for other crimes. and now the da is seeking additional charges. >> 6.35 is the time in response to recent crackdowns on homeless encampments, there's a new support network now to help unhoused people in san jose displaced by those sweeps. it's called the rapid engagement support. he more rest and the group is made of local advocates that help people recover their property after a sweep and provide information on how to get back

towed vehicles and teach them about their rights. rest will also help with finding long-term housing options and providing meals and setting up a hot line where people can report encampment sweeps. in the north bay. sonoma county is seeing a decline now in its homeless population. the latest point-in-time homeless count numbers are showing actually a decrease of about 23% for a total of 1952 people experiencing homelessness. this is the lowest number since the count began back in 2007 and it reflects a reduction of about 570 unsheltered people from 2024, the county says part of the reason for the reduction includes new department initiatives such as permanent housing projects for individuals with mental illness. it's full report for this time. full report in time is going to be released towards the end of the summer. >> wildfire season is intensifying in just the first week of summer in oakland, there's a company solely focused on saving properties

from fires by creating a defensible space brush pro. they crews have been focused on lowering the grass trimming the low hanging tree branches. as you can see, get rid the dry and dead vegetation from roofs and gutters. defensible space is a barrier and a buffer. if you have it between your home and any nearby vegetation that can be fuel for a wildfire. >> you know, you have dry weeds and grass townhouse deal with that stuff. you have stuff haitian that is touching your home. that's not irrigated deal with that stuff. backing away from the home. >> the experts recommend that go back about 100 feet so that you feel protected your home is protected. get as much of that possible fuel, the dry grass and everything away and cut back as you possibly can. >> in the east bay, oakland has some good vegetation management during fire season, but it needs to improve its emergency access. this is coming from a newly released alameda county civil grand jury report. kron 4 sarah stinson has more on that.

to know today. san mateo county supervisors are moving forward with their plans to remove sheriff christina corpus all 5 supervisors voted in favor of removing her after the report that show that she was accused of share of creating a hostile and abusive work environment and having an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff. the sheriff continues to deny all the allegations and says she's going appeal what they decided last night. the union representing san francisco sheriff's deputies is calling for an investigation into city and county jails. they say staffing as at unhealthy levels and the jails or unsafe. they also say the buildings are outdated. the sheriff's office tells kron 4 that they have seen their actual first increase in staffing levels just last month think of things might be getting better. a man is arrested for a a robbery that happened at a chase bank in redwood city. 66 year-old arthur burton, gillespie is

several cities from philly to boston could reach the hottest temperatures in more than a decade, too. so, you likes i guess i won't complain about some early morning drizzle here around the bay. cathy, >> 2 here it is right. we've got the stratus overcast skies there of securing the transamerica pyramid. but if you don't have the really hot temperatures coupled with that humidity, it's not so bad, is it? so we're in a typical summertime weather pattern here in california bay area. we're seeing cool, cloudy nights and then stratus burning back toward the coastline, giving us some sunshine in the afternoons and gray skies in the in the coastal areas. now, here's what's not typical is we have a flood alert. it's a flood advisory and it goes into effect tonight. at 9 o'clock goes to 01:00am tomorrow morning. it's for the shoreline of the san francisco bay and for the san pablo bay and its because of the astronomical high tides that

we typically get in the winter and the summer. and so you're driving around low lying areas around the bay, well, you could see some barricades of some flooding. it's basically in parks parking lot, a few isolated roads. but in the meantime, temperatures today fabulous mainly in the 60's in san francisco. 59 and the sunset and numbers in the upper 50's right along the water's edge and in the bay shoreline and the peninsula. beautiful conditions mid 60's for the most part as you start to head southward where you see fewer clouds, you see more sunshine. that means warmer temperatures. so 76 in mountain view, 77 in milpitas and san jose and santa clara. we do have a few 80's and the forecast in the inland areas such as livermore at eighty-four degrees. and we're also seeing an 84 for concord. >> but right along the water's edge, berkeley, 67 degrees. not the 80 80 and santa rosa 79. so it's a beautiful spell of weather. a look ahead shows gorgeous conditions forced inland and ever so slight

led to a door plug flying off of an alaska airlines flight last year. now the safety board formally recommended 19 changes to both boeing and the faa for dc correspondent summit with a closer look at what it was saying. >> the ntsb says boeing and faa failures led to a door plug blowing off an alaska airlines flight last january. frankly, it's nothing short of a miracle that no one died or sustained serious physical injuries and tsb investigators found during repairs for bolts were removed and never put back. 23 of the 24 people who worked on boeing's door team had never removed one of the store plugs before. 24 people on the door teams and one person who's out of the country on vacation is the only one that's ever open one and what it flew off. the ntsb says the loss of pressure was so strong. it tore a passenger's shirt off. the ntsb says that's why faa needs to require seat belts for children under 2 the lap and fence. investigators also say

flight attendants had trouble with their oxygen masks different from passenger masks. 2 flight attendants had symptoms of hypoxia. it made helping others a challenge. it was a problematic because it congealed and it was hard to get around by says the ntsb says boeing and the faa have improved training and procedures. but the chair says more needs to be done. this isn't all on boeing or spirit. i have lots of questions about where faa was during all of spirit. aerosystems built the fuselage and the door plug in says it's working with boeing to reinforce the door. plug. the ntsb has also asked the faa to step up inspections. the faa is the absolute last barrier of defense when it comes to ensuring aviation safety. last july, boeing announced it's buying spirit aerosystems to improve safety in washington. i'm today simlot. well, 6.51 is the time a consumer alert for you this morning. ford has recalled more than 197,000 vehicles
