now. >> it said. good morning and thanks for waking up with us. i'm darya and james waking up this morning to some. >> low clouds over the bay, some mist and drizzle for some of the early commuters this morning looks pretty cool behind us. doesn't. >> and cool would be the word for the moment. let's see how things will change though. today. kathy is in for john. good morning. we'll stay cool. but you will. if you're at the coastline, if you go inland, you're going to see some sunshine. but right now it's all about the stratus. it's a typical summertime weather pattern. it's cool. it's misty little bit of drizzle. a bit of fog. there it is. that's the view from mount tam, a pious, those low flat gray stratus clouds and they will start to erode in the inland areas back toward the coastline. and that will make things clear out, of course, and be sunnier and warmer in the inland areas. look them blanketing and then coming right back toward the coastline. not everyone will

see sunshine even in san francisco. we could see an awful lot of gray skies. and then guess what? we do it all over again tomorrow. although the marine, they are not quite as deep tomorrow night as tonight into tomorrow morning. so we're going to be seeing that typical pattern. temperatures right now are not warming up to very quickly because after all that status is in place, but many areas are in the 50's at this hour and we'll start to warm up once we see that clearing. so looking ahead, every couple of hours, we'll see pretty good warming in the inland areas. once we lose the clouds. but along the coastline, you'll notice not a big change. ditto for the peninsula around the bay. we're going to temperatures slowly climb because we had that stratus lingering. so will end up with temperatures a bit below normal in some spots, including san francisco. we typically would expect 67 degrees. we get 63 far cry from the old record of 99 degrees. how about the traffic? when all righty. we got an accident. this is along southbound 8.80, in fremont. >> so drive times of chacon up 60 minutes as you're traveling from san leandro down to 2.37,

you might want to take mission boulevard to navigate around the delays. we're seeing there a bay bridge commute about 15 minutes. no accidents. we did have one along a richmond center fell bridge that just cleared 20 on the san mateo bridge about 25 on the richmond, sandra fell and that golden gate bridge about 22 minutes. all right. james, back to you. thank are in a 7, 0, toole and after 7 months downtown san jose looks to be welcoming a new council anthony tordillos is currently in the lead with more than 4400 votes. gabby chavez-lopez is right now trailing by more than 2000 votes. >> we have proper moment with the very latest on last night's special election returns. it was a surprising turn of events how gabby chavez-lopez nearly won the entire election. back in april. >> barely missing out on that 50% threshold. anthony toward ios week about a second place finish back then by just 6 votes. but the tides are certainly changing here in downtown.

>> and he took the oath san jose planning commission chair. but with applause at his watch party tuesday night, a clear and decisive when we're looking at the early results, if these counts stand, he will be the new san jose city council member representing downtown. i was a little surprised by the early returns out feeling very heartened by all of the support from the community surprised as his opponent, debi lopez had a commanding lead back in april. that lead was steamrolled tuesday. just 14% of voters turned out that they were determined to make their voices heard. politics is very important because a look at the national level or anywhere else. >> at the local levels where we really have the power to make change. i think the results tonight show folks are for a new type of politics raging bull divide between business and labor is really focused on delivering results on housing, affordability and homelessness. perdio says his next steps are to build a team to deliver on his policies to solve homelessness and housing affordability. find areas of common ground so we can push forward actual policy to make progress on the issues that matter most to voters.

>> 705, and san mateo county supervisors are moving forward with their plan to remove sheriff christina corpus at a special board meeting yesterday. all 5 supervisors voted in favor of removing her. this in response to a report last year that accused the sheriff of creating a hostile and abusive work environment and having a personal relationship with her chief of staff. the sheriff has denied and continues to deny all the allegations and she says she plans to appeal tuesday's decision. and if that happens, a final decision could be months away. >> i'm not concerned with. >> the >> speed. what i'm concerned with is that it's a fair process. >> and i'm committed to ensure enough. the president, the board of supervisors. that is a fair process and making sure that we move forward in the >> transparent and open way.

>> here's what sheriff corpus has to say. in part, i am not going anywhere. i was elected by the people of san mateo county and i will continue to serve them with the integrity, courage and commitment that this office demands end quote. >> all right. let's turn our attention to the east bay now where the fallout continues this morning over the oakland school board, secretive decision to remove its longtime superintendent. now the oakland naacp is demanding changes. kron four's dan kerman has more. decision-making by the oakland board of education is once again being called out. we need the community to mobilize and we need to fight because what is happening at the school district level is comparable to what's happening at the cut at the national level. and it's not right. we're we're being parents are being pushed aside. our decisions are not being taken seriously or not. even considered even know the information at a news conference tuesday, parents and members of the oakland naacp. >> demanded the board majority

for its not just the bar or join is live in. sandra fell with more. hi, joey. >> and hey, guys. good morning. yeah, i mean, is some longtime rivalry. we're talking about dogs mailman and we if you have a dog, you see this happen. they just lose control when any delivery person shows up to the door, whether it's amazon for the pizza guy doesn't matter. the dogs go not because they're trying to defender territory. that's what they do. but it's such a big problem that the united states postal service is sending out a warning six-thousand dog bites or attacks involving mail carriers in 2024. nationwide. 700 of those aggressive encounters unfolding here in california and 2 bay area cities are in the top 20 for the most dog bites. oakland comes in number 18, 18 dog bites last year. san francisco ties for 17th were city of the golden state. 20 dot buys one postal service employee got seriously hurt when a 90 pound dog lashed out her arm.

and we are in for a slow erosion of a stratus. it'll start to clear right back toward the coastline. bringing beautiful afternoon conditions, especially inland where you see some areas in the 70's and 80's. >> and beautiful along the coast. if you like cooler conditions and a bit breezy conditions that is for you, look at this big black enough stratus and all of a sudden there it goes. san francisco stays probably pretty gray in most areas, but we'll start to see a resurgence of the status again overnight tonight into tomorrow. however, not as deep a marine layer in goes right through the golden gate over deliver more. so we're in for a beautiful spell of weather. it is after all, typical summertime weather. we'll take it. temperatures outside right now. mainly in the 50's and once gray start to clear away, we will see some blue skies and warmer temperatures. yeah. so the winds will kick up as per usual in the afternoon. the usual spots along the coastline and over by the altamont pass livermore valley guys back a little bit stays

kind of strong overnight and in coastal areas. but then we get more clouds again and more and more stratus. so here we go. beautiful air-quality day all the way today and the air quality forecast north bay coast, east bay, south bay. it's all about beautiful, fresh air with that sea breeze bringing in temperature wise. we're a few degrees below normal. not surprising with all that dry in san francisco. 63 degrees instead of 67, which would be typical nowhere near the old record of 99 degrees. so the three-day forecast shows a slight warming trend in the inland spots and will see beautiful conditions. i've got the 7 day forecast coming up. but right now it's 2 reyna with traffic. >> all south 18 down fremont. if you are going to be traveling there, you can see drive times of significantly gone up because of that crash. so mission boulevard runs just adjacent to that. you could take that to get around. those delays were seen along 8.80, 5, 80, 80 through oakland. no, no issues. still making great

time. there. 19 on our bay bridge this morning. while the san mateo bridge about 22 last hour, we had an accident on a richmond, sandra fell bridge. it's clear drive times around. 25 minutes. 41 in the south bay. that's a long 101, to 80 82 still fairly light. while 44 antioch in to conquer, i take her pass road to get around that. all right. james, back to thanks. a lot of rain. a 7.16, mcdonald's and krispy kreme are ending their don't a partnership apparently and an increasing number of tech companies are absent. >> from this year's pride parade in san francisco, jane king is at the new york stock exchange to explain. >> good morning. san francisco pride is the world's largest lgbtq parade and it's become a symbol for representing advocacy for the community. tech companies represent a little over 15% of san francisco prides overall sponsorship funding this year. the budget is that's going to cnbc, which reports that pride formally cut ties with meta after the company enacted a number of new policies like

scaling back dei. well, target is vowing to keep back-to-school prices 2024 levels. shoppers will enjoy seeing last year's list of 20 must have supplies that cause less than $20 as well as the top selling $5 backpack. the retailer bowed to offer discounts for students and teachers. also returning is the annual target circle. we keep that special deals for school supplies, electronics and other products. and that starts july 6. well, mcdonald's and krispy kreme are ending their partnership after a little more than a year with the doughnut chain citing cost issues the tie-up aimed sopris be kreme doughnuts at mcdonald's. but the company say they just couldn't get the cars in line with demand. that partnership will officially in july. second, the meantime, 61.6 million americans are expected to hit the road and travel on vacation by car this july 4th weekend. that's an additional 1.3 million more travelers compared to last year and this summer, gas prices are the lowest since 2021. from the new york stock exchange, i'm jane king. back to you.

>> james, thank you very much. 7.18 is the time now with unrest in the middle east. people in the bay area are understandably worried about an increase in antisemitic and islamophobia. so there's already been a few anti-semitic attacks in san francisco, including one that happened 2 weeks ago where a jewish person was attacked in the marina district. members of both community share what's being done now to keep people safe and united. >> a lot of people, some of the ice actions we have summer came what in the mosques. all because they're afraid of, you know, people are patient or being associated with the mosque and what is on the covid patients about. we have shared if cars passover seders. >> lots of events that that really try to bring the community together and get a shared understanding for for us locally. >> well, the fbi and the department of homeland security issued warnings earlier this month about the risks of anti-semitism. the federal government didn't issue any warnings for risk of

islamophobia despite calls from the muslim community forth. >> 5 people including 3 teenagers are arrested in san jose for a series of burglaries and attempted carjackings. the crime sprees happened between december and march. the thieves would use stolen cars and breaking the business is kind of like you see here ramming the car through the door, tying a chain to the car, dragging one out what they wanted. mayor matt mahan says that the adults involved in the crimes attempted to then step sell the stolen goods. these crimes they say were planned well in advance. >> for the first 5 months of this year. this gang of juveniles behind the wheel cause chaos and fear in our community rapidly targeting san jose, santa clara and sunnyvale. they stole cars, carjack citizens race through city streets smashed through more than 15 storefronts crash cars guns at police officers.

>> kids, 3 teenagers and 2 adults arrested and police have identified 3 other teenagers. they suspect of being involved in these crime sprees. they say that those teens, the additional 3 had already been arrested on other crimes. and now the da is seeking additional charges against them. in response to crackdowns on homeless encampments. there's a support network now to help unhoused people in san jose who've been displaced by all of these homeless encampment sweeps. the team is called the rapid engagement support. team arrest. and they are made up of local advocates who help people recover. >> after their property has been swept, they provided with information how to get back their vehicles that have been towed and teach them about their rights. rest will also help with finding long-term housing options and providing meals. and they've set up a hotline where people can report encampment sweeps.

>> in the north bay, sonoma county, now seeing a decline in its homeless population. the latest point in time, homeless count shows a decrease of about 23% for a total of 1900 people experiencing homelessness. this is the lowest number since the count began back in 2007, it reflects a reduction of about 570 unsheltered people from last year's count. the county says part of the reason for the reduction includes new department initiatives such as permanent housing projects for individuals with mental illness. the full report will be released towards the end of the summer. >> some street closures have begun already in preparation for this coming pride weekend in san francisco. it's one of the largest lgbtq+ events in the world. >> closures are already in place at civic center plaza and muti will be offering some altered routes as well. there are plenty of security concerns as you can imagine, into the festivities. but officials say there's increased vigilance this year and they're prepared.

>> san jose police have told for rv's after officers responded to complaints of blight and illegally parked vehicles in south san jose. police are enforcing the city's rv ban that is now in full effect, issuing another to trespassing citations and making a ward arrests and also

>> 7.29 right now we're checking out the weather for you on a wednesday morning halfway through the week through the first week of summer. surely doesn't feel like summer, though. it's been cloudy. it's been kind misty this morning to do don't call me shirley and i out there catch the old favorites like, yeah, are you must be joking. i'm not joking. don't call me shirley. so yeah, you know what? it's gray. you know, this is kind of typical for san francisco, though, in the bay area will take this compared to the sizzling hot temperatures and then rest of the nation and the eastern 3rd of nation with record breaking heat and that huge heat dome. this looks pretty good. okay. you can't see the top of the towers of the golden gate bridge because the stratus is so thick, but we're going to be in for a beautiful afternoon because we'll get some partial clearing even in

san francisco, high temperature. 63 there. 67 oakland, 77 and some sunshine. once we clear out the clouds in san jose. all right. the winds are going to kick up this afternoon as per usual. so right along the coastline of the usual spots, places such as point rays and also inland around the altamont pass. noticed it's a sea breeze. that, of course, helps keep some of that stratus place a little bit longer. but we will get fresh, beautiful area. great air quality. so we're in for an absolutely beautiful day. so our look ahead shows typical summertime weather pattern again, cloudy, cool. areas of fog, some areas of drizzle. i saw some of that this morning as i headed and in the afternoon as we start to clear out as some of this drought is the roads back toward the coastline. it's all just great for us. typical weather for us now. the temperature trend is we're going to see a slight warming trend inland. so each and every day at a degree or so as we start to head to about saturday and that is the warmest day, we'll still keep it kind of woman sunday. so we're in for a beautiful spell of weather. but how's the

traffic going what we have an accident. >> this is along south down 8.80, as you're traveling to fremont to look at those drive times of gone up. 75 minutes just to make it from stanley in jill down to 2.37. so mission boulevard, a good option for getting around. the delays were seen along 8.80, this morning. no accidents on our bridges at the moment. but things are a little busy. 22 on the bay bridge. 25 on the san mateo. while you're traveling in the south bay, 50 minutes along 101, 2, 80 82 you hop on that. those are going a little faster wages. back to 31 right now and for your money. and we're talking gas mean for your money. >> 2 people in electric cars tossed it. talk about gas prices me up yet, but it's states, especially when they're going up right before holidays when everybody's going to be hitting the roads are talking about the 4th of july, which is right around the corner. >> kron four's will tran joining us live with more on why prices could spike will. >> there is no debating come

july first we will be paying more every time we go to a filler up that's not open to debate. that's a fact. how much? well, that's speculation. some people believe as much as $0.65 more per gallon. yes, you heard that right. let me break it down for you. it's very nuanced. take a look at your screen. here is what you need to know right now in california. we are paying 59 0.6 cents per gallon. that's excise tax that's going to last until the end of this month come july. first that goes up 1.6 cents to 61.2 sense does not go up. $0.61. only goes that 1.6. a lot of people could handle that, right? not a big deal. here's the rub. there is a new regulation that will also start on that day that will force refineries to produce and lower carbon emissions that will make gas cost here's

how it breaks down. according to many people, they believe it could be as much as $0.65 per gallon. but there are various factors, including oil prices, market forces, reef wineries. we knew they believe that means it can probably be about 10 to $0.12 more on top of the excise tax. so that's about $0.14. not $0.65. but $0.65 is the worst case scenario. again, like i said, there is no debating that we will be paying more. take a look at your screen. these are the prices you're waking up to in the bay area. believe it or not, is actually a little bit less this year. then at the same time last year in napa county, you're a little bit below $5 a gallon this morning. and then we'll flip through the screen there at the bottom of your screen. solano county. here are the cheapest that we saw at $4 and $0.71 this year. we're paying

$0.24 less than at the same time last year despite what's going on in the ron. but the bottom line is the 4th of july and millions of people will travel. expect to pay a little bit more. back to you. all right. thank you. we'll now is get your idea that we're going to stop for gas or stop for a charge. >> or you might have to change your route because of maintenance. and they're doing some road maintenance on the golden gate bridge that you're going to want to know about since we are going into the summer holiday season. it's every wetnesday starting today until november that they're going to have the 2 center lanes close now. that's not to say you can get through on the other lanes, but it will squeeze traffic down a bit. you might want to avoid traveling from 10:00am to 01:00pm on wednesdays just because those lanes won't be available. they're working on potholes and the asphalt and they're going to do that again from now, 13 november, every wednesday, it the rest. the lanes are free for you and that's good. they'll return them but do know 2 years. nothing that if the weather

doesn't allow on wednesdays, they'll do that work on whatever thursday's closest. but today is fine and probably through the summer. you're good, too. in the east bay, a former police officer is going to spend time in prison 7 years because he misused his canine inflicting excessive force during a traffic stop in 2019 and then lied about what happened on record. the officer's name is mort has erie and they say he also cheated his way into a pay raise from the police department for a university degree that they say he paid someone else to do areas. on 3 years supervised release once he gets out of prison and has to pay about $13,000 to both the victim and the city of antioch. >> 7.36 is the time in the east bay. oakland has some good vegetation management during fire season. however, it was discovered they do need to improve their emergency access. yeah, they just found all that out because of a new civil grand jury report. kron 4 sarah stinson has more worries that people are not

so strong. it tore a passenger's shirt off. the ntsb says that's why faa needs to require seat belts for children under 2 the lap and fence. investigators also say flight attendants had trouble with their oxygen masks different from passenger masks. 2 flight attendants had symptoms of hypoxia. it made helping others a challenge. it was a problematic because it congealed and it was hard to get around by says the ntsb says boeing and the faa have improved training and procedures. but the chair says more needs to be done. this isn't all on boeing or spirit. i have lots of questions about where faa was during all of spirit. aerosystems built the fuselage and the door plug in says it's working with boeing to reinforce the door. plug. the ntsb has also asked the faa to step up inspections. the faa is the absolute last barrier of defense when it comes to ensuring aviation safety. last july, boeing announced it's buying spirit aerosystems to improve safety

7.50, and california fish and wildlife officials euthanized a bear. they had to end his life after several run-ins with campers in south lake tahoe earlier this month at eagle point, campground, hebert broke into a trailer and ended up. it was a woman inside swiped at her arm and she was hospitalized. you can see the inside of that vehicle. then they believe that same bear was the one that rangers were looking for for weeks because it had broken into campers cars since june 10th. and in one case there was a car where a child was strapped in to a car seat and a bear broke into that car. the bear, they say did not respond to efforts to keep it away from human occupied areas. so they said that they had to euthanize it. the bear's 2 cubs were taken to a rehab facility and that are
