2:00 pm
>> today's supreme court decision found disturbing implications for >> on kron, 4 news at 2 from citizenship to religious rights. the supreme court ends its term with some big wins for president donald trump.
2:01 pm
>> it is a gorgeous day in santa clara. i'm here to kick off a special olympic summer games. i'll have all the details about that your weather straight ahead. thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 to i'm justine waldman. president trump is declaring a victory today after the supreme court delivered. >> some of it's final decisions of this term. our washington correspondent raquel martin reports now on some of the main takeaways. >> today's rulings could pave the way for the president to take more bold action to achieve key portions of his agenda. he made a rare appearance and the white house press briefing room this afternoon to celebrate the victories. >> this is such a big day friday. the supreme court handed down its final decisions. the standout a ruling that limit lower courts abilities to block the president's executive orders from immediately going into
2:02 pm
effect nationwide. not one district court judge can think they're emperor over this administration. the president now says he plans to move forward to in birth right citizenship. thousands of people are pouring into our country and it wasn't meant for that reason was meant for the babies of slaves. the justices did not weigh in on the constitutionality of birthright citizenship itself doesn't make any sense. democrats call it a missed opportunity. it is in the constitution. they could have easily just said some legal experts. >> say the ambiguous ruling invites chaos and confusion. it's not entirely clear how this will play out in practice. the court also ruled to preserve a key part of the affordable care act. >> uphold a law blocking kids from accessing online and ruled parents can opt out of lgbtq related school readings over religious objections. great ruling for parents outside the court, apparent
2:03 pm
from the local maryland school district case celebrated. all we ever wanted was to be able to opt out, not changing curriculum, not change any books, but to simply say not for our thank you. the justices did not weigh in on louisiana case involving congressional districts. >> instead ordering arguments for the fall when they return. for now in washington, raquel martin, back to you. to help us understand a little bit more about what happened at the supreme court today. we're joined live by kron four's political analyst michael yaki. michael, thank you for being here. >> you just so. i want to talk about the birthright citizenship case because the supreme court ruled on really whether or not federal judges can issue nationwide injunctions, not whether or not birthright citizenship itself is constitutional. does this decision sort of reshape judicial powers over presidential policies? is that with this is really about. >> that's essentially what it should be about. there's probably some argument you made over whether or not a
2:04 pm
single district court judge in any particular area. you have a nationwide impact on on federal law. and for example, during the obama biden administration, there is a single judge in texas in his own district. don't actually circuit where there's no lottery. there's no chance get 1, 2, or 3 different judges. only one. and the far right would always go to him to try to get injunction against anything that biden obama was doing. so there's been this controversy going and both conservatives and liberals have some issues with it. whether or not that. so what they did today is said, well, can't came down say no, you can't do that, except that they did it with the wrong you really should be able to do this with the constitution issue such as citizenship for one very simple reason. how can you be a citizen in california under district court ruling there and not a citizen insane nevada where there is no district court ruling. the idea that that that your citizenship can can be affected by state
2:05 pm
boundaries is exactly why you should have a decision like that to get the facts. and another ancillary constitutional right, the right to travel across the country freely. so these are this is this, i think was the wrong case to do it. i think that you saw some of the justices like justice kavanaugh, basically saying, you know, if you didn't nationwide class action suit, you probably get around this pretty easily and you're going to be seen a lot of that happening over the next few days. people are filing as we finally class actions will be certified. it's going to be it's going to be a little bit of a little bit of chaos. but i think in meantime, the lesson for anyone is that if you're in one of the 22 states where you have a positive ruling and and stay there for the time being the only thing. >> so if you're someone who is pregnant and you're in this country illegally and you're going to give birth in the next couple of months. what your child then be considered a united states citizen or does this? going to be enough
2:06 pm
appeals and things happening that that. just wondering if you're in that position, what this means for as of right now, if you're going to give birth tomorrow. >> it you should do it in one of the 22 states where there is a court, there is already injunction saying that provide the ship is along the way and it is a long line of 14th amendment. but thing this is the wrong case decided this issue or they could have made an exemption based on a broad constitutional things like it's like saying free speech free speech and one for the state and one for the country. not those are the kinds of things they should not have done, but they decide to do it anyway. and i think it's going to create a little bit of. well, i there's gonna be a lot of action in the federal courts over the next 2 or 3 weeks because of the 30 day delay. that's just not the supreme court put into effect before this actually becomes law. >> okay. one more here. there was also this ruling about lgbtq+ books in schools that
2:07 pm
allows parents to opt their children out from lessons that use lgbtq+ seemed storybooks. what's the bigger message and picture here from this ruling? >> well, it's slowly chipping away. essentially the constitutional basis for their for the right to marry. i mean that that's what i'm concerned about. because if you can see and religious objective descent, like the bakery case of some of the others that come along fence. if you can search scene, that's because of your religion. objection to such certain lifestyle that certain whatever, as you can sort of declare your only constitutional free zone on these kinds of things there. that's a very slippery i mean, you can start anyway. concerts starting to say that i religion believe deeply held. and i don't believe that like people should be allowed to have the same my child's education or i'm not going to write a book because of blank kind of person actually wrote it. it's it's. it's just a
2:08 pm
legislative bigotry. i mean, legal these bigotry night and i'm very concerned about that. i thought we've gone past that with a ruling marriage, but apparently now and they're still a significant minority in this country. we're cleaning onto these old values and this is how you see the supreme court. we just been going along with these kinds of measures that once again, you know, if if you're, you're you have a lesser standard, whether it's being able to use the restroom. weather for team, whether your can be read whether or not, you know, it can be. you have a teacher be taught in the schools, these that this is safe. very, very dangerous time for the lgbtq community because you're essentially constitutionally legislating continued bigotry. >> political analyst michael yaki. appreciate you joining us this afternoon. another big ruling today comes from the supreme court. and in san francisco, the city attorney
2:09 pm
jay david chiu is reacting to the supreme court's ruling on the ability of judges to block the president's policies conference. charles clifford joins us now live. he's in san francisco. one of city attorney have to say about this. charles. >> well, good afternoon. you know, since the almost day one san francisco has been opposed to president trump's executive order on birthright citizenship today, city attorney chew was reacting saying he's disappointed, but he believes in the long run birthright citizenship will be upheld. when president trump issued his executive order limiting birthright citizenship on january. 20th, san francisco immediately signed on to a lawsuit challenging that order. >> 3 district court judges then issued a universal injunction against the president. this most recent decision by the supreme court doesn't address the legality of the executive order but instead limits the ability of lower courts to issue brought injunctions. today's supreme court decision has profoundly disturbing implications for
2:10 pm
will flop. >> city attorney david chiu says he is disappointed in the ruling and worries that it could set a dangerous precedent. >> the ruling will deprive court sunlit against in many circumstances of an important tool to check the power of this administration. >> the ability to craft universal injunctions, the supreme court has ordered a 30 day pause before the president's executive order can take effect. and in that time lower courts can re examine the issue. nothing about today's decision suggests that we will not ultimately prevail on the merits. chew says he believes in the case against the president's executive order and is confident the courts will agree with him. we can and will continue to pursue our case to defend birthright citizenship in america. all right. back live now to today wouldn't say are didn't know what the timeline is like when you may be able to. >> return to court to defend the issue says that's up to the district courts. but for now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> charles, thank you. and for

2:34 pm
event will be. but let's talk weather, shall we? because get great weather for today and also this weekend. let's start with a look in the south bay. i'm in santa clara. so let's talk san jose weather, shall we? let's look at the temperatures there. and right now they are sitting at a lovely 84 degrees. notice the wind has picked up there, but 10 miles per hour out of the northwest. as we take a look here at storm tracker, you can see the whole state really basking in the sunshine with the exception of a little bit of the coastal clouds that are still hanging on. and certainly you see that a bit along the peninsula. but the north bay has gotten some pretty decent clearing today. temperatures showing that we have warmed up inland. in fact, take a look at fairfield right now. 95 degrees. we are at 89 up in santa rosa, but 90 in nevada, 92 in livermore and nice 80's. as i mentioned, the south bay, san francisco. 65 and oakland coming in and about 70 degrees. so the wind is still going to be kicking a little bit this afternoon in san francisco. you're going to see the brunt of it as usual, but that will be maybe a little tiny bit less than yesterday. high pressure is
2:35 pm
pretty much in control right now. that's what's keeping the sunshine rolling. and that is what's kind of keeping the marine layer from getting too pervasive. now, we will have a little bit of low pressure is going to roll in on monday. that's going to cool things down. just a touch on monday and probably bring a little more marine layer back in as we get into monday and tuesday. but you can see temperature wise once that cooldown happens, it's not for, you know, a lot. and then we go right back up as we head into next week. so a great weekend on tap. you're going to head to san francisco for pride are down here to santa clara for the special olympics. >> i say the weather is on your side to make plans. everybody. >> former gold stay warrior kalana as a rookie is here with us. he has a brand new adventure you want to share with us on kron 4. he's now in the corn bread business. so let's bring him in right now. collette famous brad gourmet cornbread is what this year. so so that we can make this happen amazing because i think most people know you either as a warrior or as the color

commentator. but did people know that year in the corn bread business? i think more and more people are starting to to know now. but it started with my wife. she's amazing in the kitchen. >> and way back when see you always go to these places and get cornbread. she's always been a corporate kind of sore and it was knows what's up and she felt like it was at times dry and a little breakable and stuff like that. so it's like i can do this so she went with the up in the kitchen and came up with this recipe. we started dating it for the first time. she's like i some leftover corn, but i made for myself. you want to try some? i'm like, yeah, i love corn bread. i really do. i taste it. i love said this is the best crime never had. not just because you like not just as she tried interest. she thought i was just being nice. i'm like, no, i'm serious. fast forward, we get married. she's like i got some more corn ready? what's more? unlike absolutely i tasted it again. i'm like, no, no, you have to do something. you might have to share this with the world. look so fast
2:37 pm
forward, we start a business. it's been amazing. were in 5 different locations. now and it's selling really well. something that i look at this, though. i don't know which camera i can show the cornbread. >> and this one sort of purple on this one has blueberries. and so he's on it. so that's what i want to hear. like, what people who were like additional cornbread lovers, they see this will test that in a minute. but like what is the reaction been to kind of expanding what cornbread looks and tastes like the and the reaction been amazing. it's still offending to corner. it is corn bread. >> but our main things that thing the difference differentiates us is the texture. it sticks. it stays moist and then the flavors when you had anything other than. just plain cornbread or jalapeno cornbread and know anything else. so we came up flavor. so we have so the first we came up with was caramel. that's right there.
2:38 pm
that's in this. and that will likely that we can just do a whole bunch more so than blueberry white chocolate was my idea blueberry white chocolate. very watch. one times might. did you come up with an idea? it was probably like 11. yeah. like something like that. 11:00pm. and they saw today cr best seller. my wife is filipino bay is a filipino classic delicacy. and saul today is also a filipino delicacy, putting together mind blowing. and that's that's been our best seller. and then we have banana walnut and we also have a fiesta, which is all the different. peppers and so the flavors have amazing people love it. and again, the main thing that one of the main things is it stays moist and yeah, it definitely looks like a knowing it looks like it's not going to break apart when you eat time to ron, a cornbread business and do your other full-time job with the warriors. will my wife does pretty much almost everything
2:39 pm
