bright weekend has officially kicked off in san francisco. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn. >> among the many attractions out there this weekend, the biggest pride flag in the world. look at this rainbow colored laser beams are shining for more than 4 miles over market street. of course, if the fog could only cooperate a little bit kron 4.70, roston was along the embarcadero for the setup. >> the stage is said on the embarcadero for light show and barricades are up at civic center at san francisco is gearing up for one of the biggest pride celebrations in the world. i think it's just so san francisco, like we welcome everyone. we want everyone to come. more than 1 million people are expected to pack the city throughout pride weekend. nicholas thomas lewis is showing his family visiting from nebraska. what it's all about. it is be able to have them here, but that's to able to celebrate all

shooting across there. we were really enjoying it here in the studio. let's check in with our meteorologist gayle ong. hey gayle, hello. yes. tonight is the perfect night for laser that down right before the show. it's breeze out there. not a strong push in the winds and it is a mostly clear in san francisco. i know that. >> the show goes through the weekend so we may see partly cloudy skies on saturday and sunday. >> but other than that, it's really nice out for tonight. so lets take a look at sunday's forecast for the parade on market street that starts at 10:00am. temperatures looks like we'll be in the low 60's with partly cloudy skies and a cool breeze. but temperatures should bump up to the upper 60's in san francisco. so very nice said sunday on tap. so let's take a look at the wake-up planner waking up to cloudy skies. we have been seeing this june gloom in the morning, especially by the coastline. but a lot of afternoon sun numbers will be in the 50's and 60's eventually warming up into the 70's and 80's around the bay

inland. so today was that hot day. it looks like we'll see another hot day in store for you in linwood, close to 90 degree weather. we cool down just a bit on sunday monday, but another warm-up is on the way next week. we'll have your 7 day forecast when i come back. >> gail, thanks a lot from the state capitol to capitol hill, san francisco state senator scott wiener is eyeing a seat in congress. the senator has just filed paperwork with the intention of replacing democratic icon nancy pelosi. wiener has previously said he would be interested in filling the seat once the former house speaker decides not to run again. pelosi's daughter christine pelosi has been mentioned as a possible candidate. sonoma state, political science professor david mckeown says wiener might be trying to get ahead of the curve. thus a big move. it's a preemptive move because scott wiener's trying to get ahead of nancy pelosi's daughter, christine pelosi, who sits on the dnc and has indicated possible interest in that seat. so that

>> primary, that democratic primary and who succeeds nancy pelosi is going to be explosive. it's going to be very divisive. and obviously nancy pelosi wants to have some role in who comes next. winners filing with the federal elections committee shows his campaign would be for the 2028 election, but >> if pelosi chooses not to run in 2026, we could very well change course. we also asked david mcewan about today's major supreme court rulings, including one that could significantly impact president trump's efforts to change birthright citizenship laws. the president's executive order signed in january seeks to deny citizenship to children who are born to people who are living in the united states illegally or temporarily. it's part of the hardline immigration agenda for the president who has called birthright citizenship. a magnet for illegal immigration. the high court's ruling sends cases challenging the president's birth right

citizenship. executive order back to the lower courts. but the ultimate fate of the president's policy still remains uncertain. is that this is a court that is divided, but it's politically driven and that political motivation. you also see. >> in the dissent from justice sotomayor and the other 2 democrats. and so the really frankly, there's a lot of a lack of clarity is a very turgid are unclear. decision out of today out of this bank of decisions, particularly on birthright citizenship. but if you're the president and his team, you have to feel pretty emboldened. >> well, here in san francisco city attorney david chiu is reacting to the ruling saying that he believes birthright citizenship will be upheld. kron 4 charles clifford reports. >> well, san francisco city attorney says he is disappointed in today's supreme court ruling, but he believes in the long run, birthright citizenship will be upheld when president trump issued his executive order limiting birthright citizenship on january. 20th, san francisco immediately signed on to a lawsuit

challenging that order. >> 3 district court judges then issued a universal injunction against the president. this most recent decision by the supreme court doesn't address the legality of the executive order but instead limits the ability of lower courts to issue brought injunctions. today's supreme court decision has profoundly disturbing implications for will flop. >> city attorney david chiu says he is disappointed in the ruling and worries that it could set a dangerous precedent. >> the ruling will deprive court sunlit against in many circumstances of an important tool to check the power of this administration. >> the ability to craft universal injunctions, the supreme court has ordered a 30 day pause before the president's executive order can take effect. and in that time lower courts can re examine the issue. nothing about today's decision suggests that we will not ultimately prevail on the merits >> chew says he believes in the case against the president's executive order and is confident the courts will agree with him. we can and will continue to pursue

our case to defend birthright citizenship in america. >> now, 2 did not offer any timeline for when he thought the district courts might take up this case again. but for now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> well, the court also issued several other key rulings, including preserving a part of the affordable care act's preventative health care coverage requirements. the court also upheld a law preventing kids from accessing online and ruled that parents can opt out of lgbtq related school readings over religious objections. president trump called that ruling great for parents equality. california, though issued a statement in response saying donald trump's supreme court has issued another ruling that further marginalizes lgbtq+ people and their lived experience. today's ruling sets a dangerous precedent that leads to a slippery of what curriculum for instructional materials can be opted out of.

in other news tonight, governor gavin newsom is filed a multimillion dollar defamation lawsuit against fox news. the governor claims the conservative network intentionally edited video to make it seem like he lied about a phone conversation that took place between him and president trump. back on june 6th. the discussion came after the president seized control of the california national guard a few days later, trump was asked when he spoke to the governor last in the president said it was a day ago. newsom then posted a video clip saying that there was no call a day ago. fox news for trade newsom's response is a lie. a spokesperson rather the governor himself spoke out this afternoon saying fox needs to be held accountable. it's not because i'm quote, unquote, sensitive to the coverage on national fox. i've been a pinata for fox news for years and years and years. never, however. have i seen that line crossed in such a

south bay. police seized more than 3,000 pounds of illegal fireworks officers in san jose. >> conducted 2 major busts ahead of the 4th of july holiday and first operation. this was from back on june. 16th, undercover officers tracked a suspected selling commercial grade fireworks. a suspect rather selling commercial grade fireworks out of a storage unit on capitol expressway. that person was identified as javier martinez. they were arrested after officers found more than 1000 pounds of fireworks and improviseexplosives. just a we later, investigato served multiple search warrants across the city and they found more than 2000 pounds of fireworks and more

than 50 improvised explosive devices and also a lot of guns, including an ar style rifle with a 3 d printed part. the 2 people identified where david benito and one rocha they've been arrested and charged with felonies. residents have been reminded that all fireworks are illegal in the city of san jose and property owners could face fines up to $100,000. here in san francisco. police also seized hundreds of illegal fireworks in various rockets. they were found inside a stolen uhaul. the van's driver was taken to jail and booked on several charges, including illegal possession of explosives. and while fireworks are legal in most parts of the bay area, there still some cities where you can buy safe in same ones starting tomorrow. there's going to be pop-up stands and dublin pacifica, san bruno, newark and sassoon city. those pop ups will open in union city as well. but on july 1st.

trying to officials have announced plans to change the airport's name to include san francisco. today, the port of oakland announced it would be renaming the airport is oakland, san francisco bay airport. sounds a little familiar port. officials say the name change reflects the airport's, quote, strong oakland and the east bay identity. and it's convenient role as a gateway to the entire san francisco bay area. the name change comes less than a year after the airport was ordered by the courts to stop using the name san francisco bay, oakland international airport. >> really what that does is allows us to lean into open first as well as really generate economic value of the airport to the the francisco bay and then the from of fire. so people understand where oakland where the airport the civic we're going one of those books understand oakland sense of how easy it is >> the port of oakland board

is planning to consider adopting the new name at its meeting next month. the airport will ak has its abbreviated abbreviation, rather, and the logo is going stay the same kron. 4 has reached out to the san francisco city attorney who was involved in the last lawsuit against the previous name change. his office says they're going to be assessing the next steps to ensure that san francisco international airports trademark is protected. well, not your typical reason for a flight delay. a bayer was spotted running across the tarmac at an airport in japan. how about that? this happened early yesterday morning when the airport had to temporarily close the runway and try corral this animal. the bear was small, thankfully, but i mean, relatively right. but it had a big impact affecting 10 different flights as they work to head out of the area. japanese media reports say that he was likely hiding in the woods near the airport and then he eventually decided to make parents. some of the
