joey kron. 4 news. >> a dispute spring between blue shield of california uc health, san francisco. that is the largest medical center could disrupt healthcare for 10's of thousands of area residents. that is if a negotiation is not reached by july 10th city attorney david chiu and supervisor matt dorsey recently sent a letter urging blue shield to keep uc health in network meaning to keep providers with their services at pre negotiated discounted rates. they're warning that cutting ties in the middle of the year could threatened care and breached contracts. these talks are still ongoing. but if a new agreement is not reached, ucsf health, including ucsf medical center in ucf betty off children's health in san francisco and oakland. we'll be out of network for blue shield of california. members. a strike involving health care workers at ucsf benioff children's hospital in oakland is now coming to an end. union leaders called it off on sunday. this after a federal judge denied their request for

an injunction that would have stopped ucsf health for proceeding with into with its integration plan. this is video of workers striking earlier this month. the hospital's integration plan includes canceling union contracts and making workers at the oakland hospital direct ucsf employees. union leaders say the plan would cut pay at the children's hospital and their affiliated clinics. but ucsf officials are saying the move supports their long term growth plans. workers had planned to be on the picket lines on sunday and today. but despite the strike ending the national union of healthcare workers says they will continue to fight this in court. ucf laughs. integration plan is set to go into effect on july 6th. in its second attempt. oakland international airport is pushing to change its name to include san francisco. the move is stirring up some controversy yet again. kron four's will tran reports if you are flying into oakland this morning, it is oakland international. but

you know that name change that they wanted. only reason why they don't have san francisco prevented them. so they said, ,- you know what? let's go back to the drawing board. >> let me show you what it looks inside the word oakland is prominent inside all of the terminals fly oakland. so what they want to do is lean back into the city. oakland last fall. they wanted to be san francisco bay, oakland, a judge and sfo and has city attorney said no, you can't do that. that's why they are not going to do that. for now. and then over the weekend to decide it. let's go back to where it all started. let's start off with oakland, san francisco bay international airport got a chance to talk to some travelers. here's their reaction to the second attempt. what do you think about just going from san francisco bay to now oakland, san francisco bay? one thing do something, i guess it could

change it to making oakland's first. so they know they're going to oakland. lot of confusion for people that are not from this area. when you start changing names of airports when they don't have an understanding of how the bay works and where. >> and is a k starts muddying the waters as cfo and san francisco attorneys. they will revisit this. they heard of the name change instead of san francisco bay. now it's oakland, san francisco bay's. so that's not first. as far as the name san francisco. but they're not happy yet. they want to revisit this implies that basically they don't even like the main san francisco in the oakland, san francisco bay. >> from and arrested for allegedly hitting a firefighter in the head with a rock in vallejo. fire officials friday june 27th on sonoma boulevard in redwood street. this happened. they say that a man threw a rock at

that fire truck hitting the firefighter in the back of the head. the man took off, but then was later detained and arrested. he has been booked into jail. one person now in critical condition after they fell from a san francisco high rise and landed on and on. the san francisco fire department says this happened around 5 saturday afternoon on green street in the city's russian hill neighborhood. crews used ladders to rescue that person. officials are not sure from how high the victim fell. sfpd is investigating. >> on the last day of june of this year, here's sfo, the marine layer. it's out there. let's check in with our meteorologist kyla grogan to see what happened. why it is the last day of june. that is true, isn't it? it's hard to believe. we've got sunshine and san jose. you can see it is beautiful there right now. not really the story, though. if you head over the golden gate bridge, the coast in spots like the golden gate bridge hanging on to that marine layer right now. and you can certainly see how it has brought some temperatures

down a little bit. in fact, we're running a little bit cooler today in most spots than we were yesterday. and i'll show you in just a second. but not everywhere, right? livermore is 84 degrees right now. ers half moon bay is 57. that's your microclimate that work. everybody. this is the difference in temperatures from yesterday to today. so with the exception of half moon bay out of the coast, everyone is running a little bit cooler. they are less europe and santa rosa. and then i'd say it's a lot of it cooler. it's 11 degrees. cooler. and that has everything to do with our marine layer. that's kind of clinging to the coast right now. and also as we zoom out, we've got a little low pressure system is sitting right offshore and you can see how it is really drawing in a little bit of disturbed weather right now. you can see a storm that is sitting offshore and definitely some lightning associated with that as well. that's not set to really affect us too much today, but it is the result of a little tropical moisture. and we'll talk about that a little bit later in the show. take a look at the wind right now. there are about 12 miles per hour in san francisco, 13 in oakland. we are a little breezy out there. we will see that kick up as we get into the afternoon. highs today

vote on president donald trump's so called big beautiful spending bill. washington correspondent trevor shirley is in dc with more. >> and the senate worked all weekend to get this piece of legislation out of committee. right now. senators are several hours into this vote. a rama. it's a procedural process where any senator can introduce any number of amendments to the legislation and each one must be debated and voted on. it's expected that process could creep into the early morning hours of tuesday. at stake is the survival of the big beautiful bill. president trump's signature tax and spend legislation after several holdout republicans flipped their votes over the weekend. the multi-trillion dollar bill made it out of committee. the legislation if passed by congress would add more than 100 billion dollars for border security and immigration enforcement. it would also ramp up military spending and extend the trump tax cuts in 2017, nonpartisan estimates

say the bill could add more than 3 trillion dollars to the national death and costs the lowest earning americans around $1200 more a year. republicans plan to offset the cost to steep cuts to medicaid and food assistance programs. democrats say the legislation is dangerous today. >> senate republicans have to decide. choose the american people or bow down to donald trump and his coterie of billionaires. because this bill, as we have said for months, steele's people's health care jacks up their electricity bill takes away their jobs all to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. it's been a long debate. i don't people are weary. but at the end of the day, we want to get this, don. so this country is safer and stronger. >> and more prosperous, not only for today, but for future generations of americans. >> and at this point, it's still unclear when a final vote on the bill may happen.

reporting in washington. i'm trevor shirley. >> as lawmakers in dc are working to try and pass president trump's budget bill here in the bay area. dozens of people were protesting that bill and what it could mean for medicaid and science funding. kron four's jack moment has the story. >> standing right outside the tesla showcased in stanford shopping center sunday. it's a convenient place and also must have a lot to do with doge dozens posting signs and chanting against the recent budget. the trump administration is trying to pass through lawmakers this week. >> i think to make as upset over proposed cuts to health benefits and grants for research in the latest republican backed budget. we are protesting >> big your budget bill and the horrible cutbacks and medicaid and also to aca. carol peyser helped organize the protest and says that the cuts go through, people will suffer once people on medicaid are cut off medicaid, they

then they even amplify it. i think that's important the canty says she just hopes some of them were. listen, i a i feel very passionately that this is a very dangerous type ii their way back to tesla with some tension with employees. >> a lot of moment kron, 4 news. >> this just into the kron 4 newsroom. the san mateo county civil grand jury has issued an accusation against sheriff christina corpus for willful are corrupt misconduct in office. this happened on friday. sackings ation is coming after that matter was referred to the civil grand jury by the board of supervisors last november. the allegations against the sheriff include one count of conflict of interest and 3 counts of retaliation. sheriff court press is scheduled to appear in court on july 15th to answer these accusations last week, the san mateo county board of supervisors

voted to proceed with forcing sheriff christina corpus out of office. she has maintained her innocence. >> where the sun is in the east bay right now, this is a view of mount diablo. we have meteorologist kyla grogan in the weather center. she's a track in the sun for us today. yeah, we've got the sunshine there. but if you take your eyes across the air from the berkeley hills all the to where we normally see the golden gate bridge. you don't see it. you see little marine layer hanging out to the coast is definitely still dealing with some of that marine layer. well, the rest kind of getting in on the sunshine act here. 66 in oakland, wind out of the west at 13 miles per hour. so we are a little breezy out there. but this is half moon bay. you can see just how very socked in it as you can hardly see anything here, right? it is just barely visible when usually we can see so much in the distance here. half moon bay as well. so obviously temperatures they're cool to 57 degrees. and as we head inland, that's where that warmth is. you certainly see that in spots like pittsburgh and fairfield were up in the low 80's. now

we're 78 in fremont. you can see up in the north a little bit cooler there. but starting to warm up in nevado now sitting at 77. i mentioned we're gonna get a little gusty. it is going to be that onshore flow yet again. you can see this afternoon. it is definitely going to be going up. so just be prepared for that. as we work our way into the afternoon, as far as the marine layer is concerned. taking a look at podcast here, you can really see how we get into the afternoon and really nothing changes for the coastline. and in fact, as we work our way into about 8 o'clock tonight, we start to see that push in very quickly in in the overnight. a lot of coastal drizzle possible. you can see all this kind of popping up right now. so that means we start off tomorrow with a little bit of that fog as well. now inland temperatures. we take a look here. we're looking at livermore for the next couple of days. little bit of warm-up as we head through the week and then by friday, which is our 4th of july. that's when things are going to start to pull back a bit. so it's going on is right now. we've got a little low pressure system sitting off the coast. that is certainly what's causing a little bit of that action that you see there, that stormy weather that is off the coast of california. and after that

moves away, our high pressure will kind of help to warm us up through the week. but then as we get later into the week towards that holiday weekend on friday, that's when we actually the front thatfs going to track through from the north and west. right now, though, what we're experiencing is a little bit of tropical moisture. in fact, there is a tropical storm as tropical storm flossie that is down off the coast of mexico right now. so it's kind of an interesting set up and ready to talk a little bit about that and come back in a bit. but let's take a look right now at the next 7 days. and i know the big question is how are we going to do for the fireworks friday? and i do think that because we're gonna have a front tracking through. it's going to get a little tricky on friday. as far as that marine layer and clouds clearing and whether or not we can see those fireworks very clearly or will have to kind of hang out and have a little bit of that marine layer president. so we'll definitely keep an eye on that as we go through the week. back to definitely something to watch for. thank you. kyla and the 4th of july. it's coming with some warnings. the tap water safety text in for your safety text in for your health.

>> we're just a few days away from the 4th of july and in the east bay, oakland city officials are reminding people that all fireworks are illegal kron. 4 charles clifford joins us now live from oakland with details on the story. >> well, good afternoon, as you can see behind me here, the hills in oakland are bone very dry conditions heading into the weekend. of course, 4th of july is this weekend. all fireworks in alameda county except for a handful of cities are illegal. but as we all know, fireworks happened.

and today the fire department asking folks to do use fireworks. and if you do be careful. every year, thousands of illegal fireworks are set off across the city of oakland. this is video from a few years ago with 4th of july. just a few days away. the fire department is asking that neighbors avoid using fireworks, including so-called safe and sane ones. >> the last several years we've had vegetation fires that were started by illegal fireworks. so my plea to you to the community of oakland is that you just watch the shows that are licensed to be had they keep the fireworks off the street. >> the police department says they will have officers deployed across the city on the 4th to look for illegal fireworks, illegal drug and alcohol vending celebratory gunfire inside shows. the fire department says they will have extra crews out as well. and they're also partnering with neighboring cities. >> to make sure that we if if there are any fires that are started, we could catch him in city and state before they get large. >> and finally, anyone caught using illegal fireworks in up to $1000. all right, back

live. now. the fire department also announced today the grizzly peak boulevard above the city of oakland will be closed the morning. a 4th of july at 06:00am until 06:00am on july 5th. so it's closed for 24 hours. >> but for now in the east bay but for the kron 4 news. charles, thank you. happening today see some smoke in the north bay don't be alarmed. the santa rosa fire department is conducting some. >> training in southeast santa rosa, just west of the oakmont area. this is happening today and on wednesday, crews plan to burn about 70 acres between 09:00am and 04:00pm. if the weather's good for them to do this. the scheduled byrne is working to provide some critical hands-on training for first responders. santa clara vta is working to keep its bart expansion plan on track in the face of a nearly 1 billion dollar budget gap. the bts board of directors approved plans to search for some different contractors among some other changes and

as they're trying to bring the cost down, the project was awarded 100 million dollars in grants from the state's transportation board. construction has started transit experts say so far they're seeing support from government officials. commuters can expect to pay a little bit more for their next cal train ride starting tomorrow, which is july 1st, rates go up. $0.25. they'll be $4 and eligible discount. riders fares will go up to 2 box. caltrans says it delayed a $0.50 base for increase in 2023 to avoid discouraging riders from getting on board during the post pandemic recovery. it comes to park. the transit agency is reporting that service has been cleaner safer and busier than last quarter. bart says weekday ridership is climbing. but weekend ridership has also seen a big jump as more families are getting on the train to go to events and the city and around town. bart says this change is thanks to

its safe and clean plan, which brings more police presence to its trains and stations in its latest quarterly report, bart is reporting crimes against riders are down and robberies have been cut in half. bart says even fare evasion is down. thanks to the new gates. they have installed 40 of them in station in stations and by the end of the year, all 50 bart stations will have those gates. in national news. now, firefighters her back at the scene today of a blaze were 2 firefighters died and another was wounded the day before and then ambush shooting attack. the suspect was found dead at the scene news nation's nancy loo has the latest. >> we're now authorities are not naming that suspect and it's not known yet if he took his own life or if you was neutralized by swat units because of the fast moving wildfire, law enforcement retrieve the suspect's body last night along with a nearby weapon. it suspected there may

be more weapons on the mountain. perhaps why it seemed like more than one shooter at last report. the wildfire has spread to nearly 30 acres of canfield mountain gaining traction yesterday due to the deadly ambush. authorities used cell phone data to pinpoint the suspect's location after sevoral tense hours with first responders unsure how many snipers were there. kootenai county sheriff robert norris updated the community late last night. >> we believe that there's likelihood. that when we are able to enter the scene again tomorrow without the threat of fire that will find other weapons that placed. this was a total ambush. these firefighters did not have a chance. >> the names of the 2 fire fighters killed have not yet been released on a 3rd remains hospitalized. fighting for life. a solemn procession stretched for several miles last night as the bodies of the fallen firefighters were transported off the mountain.

hundreds of residents and first responders lined the streets and highways, many saluting or holding american flags. now the cell phone which help law enforcement to locate the suspect is now in evidence and could hold key information. >> about a possible motive. back to you. >> the trump administration is threatening to cut all federal funding from harvard university. a federal task force sent a letter to harvard on monday finding that the university violated civil rights laws requiring colleges to protect students from discrimination based on race or national origin. it says investigators found harvard was at times a willful participated, antisemitic harassment of jewish students, faculty and staff and that campus leaders allowed antisemitism to fester on the campus in cambridge, massachusetts. the administration says all federal funding will be polled if the school fails to take action. and president donald

trump is expected to visit florida's controversial new detention center. it's being called alligator. alcatraz opens up tomorrow. newsnation's brooke shafer reports. >> a source familiar with the plans tells news nation president trump is expected to visit this controversial detention center in florida as it opens tomorrow. our sources telling us that dhs secretary kristi noem should also be there to see the temporary ice detention facility deep in the florida everglades, dubbed alligator alcatraz over the weekend. workers set up tents and trailers at the virtually abandoned airport. soon set to house up to 5,000 migrants. but just outside the construction zone this weekend were also hundreds of protesters. environmental groups fear the site west of miami will damage the everglades ecosystem while some native american leaders claim this facility encroaches on sacred land, the everglades in itself is just a very

sacred area. and habitat here needs to be preserved taking care of our >> lives depend on this ever home. you bringing facility here is dropping everything. some human rights groups have also called the site surrounded by marsh and alligators inhumane and have raised issue with potentially thousands of people being housed in temporary tents and trailers. >> during florida's hurricane season. environmental groups late friday filed a last-minute lawsuit hoping to halt the facility's opening in response. governor desantis is office said this detention center won't have any impact on the surrounding environment and that it should be ready to open tomorrow with president trump now expected to be there, brooke. shafer, news nation. >> august right here across the golden gate bridge. kind of feel bad for the tourists

out there going for a walk or bike ride. you really can't see much of the city today. meteorologist kyla grogan in the weather center with a look at what's happening outside. i mean, they can if they just turn around because they're set in san francisco right now, it's just hanging on at the bridge and at the coast. i wanted to take you now down towards mexico or tropical storm flossie. >> is and that is one of the things is starting to help generate a little bit of subtropical moisture that's being drawn in here and is causing some of the stormy weather that you see that is surrounding the low-pressure system. here's what happens is counter clockwise circulation. it goes around and kind of draws in some of that subtropical moisture. and that does bring a little bit of a bit of energy that can lead to disturbances in the problem with that is it can lead to dry lightning strikes. and that's one of the reasons that we've got red flag warnings to the north of our viewing area. so to the north of clear lake. but through tuesday, these areas are looking out for that possibility because, of course, we have a lot of dry brush out there. so we have just a less than 10% chance of that happening in our north bay. be wary. keeping an eye on that today tomorrow and

a little bit of moisture has been drawn and unfortunately kicking off some fire danger to the north of us and north of clearlake. we do have those red flag warnings that are up for parts of today and tomorrow. but for the rest of the bay area right now, if you're not at the coast, you're kind dealing in that lovely sunshine and temperatures reflecting that. 76 in san jose. some nice 80's in a spot like livermore about 84 degrees. but we're getting very warm. if you look over towards dublin out 87 and if we get up to the north bay here sunday, 70's but nevado now almost to the 80 degree mark there. but just 59 in san francisco where we've got those clouds still hanging out at the coast. sunshine breaking through in san francisco. pretty nice right now. 12 mile per hour wind here and 13 in oakland this afternoon will get breezy. the clouds will stay kind of clinging to that coastline. today, there's about 3.30, this afternoon and notice as we get into about 8 o'clock here comes that marine layer once again and look at all of the drizzle that is expected here. not just the coast. we could see some of the kind of moves its way into the bay as well as we wake up tomorrow again, with some foggy conditions. very similar to today where will pull back and
