received a call about a man threatening to kill everybody inside of a home. >> and according to police, when officers arrived, that man rushed at them with a knife. and that is when officers say they opened fire and that man died at the scene. people who live in this area say this is usually a safe neighborhood. >> it was great neighborhood. never know crimes. no trouble around here. do, however, see cops because don't need them around here. i've been pretty safe. and then it's been 13 years. can't complain. >> the man's name has not been released. the contra costa county district attorney's office is now conducting a criminal investigation. it's very important moment now in the north bay as the vallejo city unified school district will now be controlled locally. as for decades, the state oversaw the district's operations kron four's theresa stasi explains what happens now and why school officials say for the district the best is yet to come. >> today is truly historic

stopped ucsf health from proceeding with its integration plan. here's video now workers striking this is from earlier this month. the hospital's integration plan includes canceling union contracts and making workers at the open hospital direct ucsf employees. union leaders say the plan would cut pay at children's hospital. oakland, it's affiliated clinics, but ucsf officials are saying this move supports their long term growth plans. and despite the strike ending the national union of healthcare workers is saying they will continue to fight this in court. the integration plan is set to go into effect july 6th. warehouse. we have some new details now. a co tract negotiation with blue shield of california, uc health. they have agreed to extend negotiations. so this will allow blue shield members to continue to access uc health as an in network provider. this extension is for an additional 30 days allowed members to access uc health through august. 9th. uc health

is san francisco's largest medical percenter in a statement blue shield of california says we continue to negotiate in good faith to reach a new agreement. we're just a few days away from the 4th of july in the east bay, oakland city officials are reminding people that all fireworks are illegal kron four's charles cofer to us to live from oakland with the latest. charles, does this also mean sparklers are those illegal in oakland to? >> yes, all fireworks in alameda county are legal except for a few cities like dublin, newark, where you can buy safe and sane fireworks. but here in oakland, all fireworks are illegal. that doesn't stop people from lighting them off. you see behind me here, the hills are very dry and so fire officials are asking folks, i have to be careful this hot 4th of july weekend. every year, thousands of illegal fireworks are set off across the city of oakland. this is video from a few years ago with 4th of july. just a few days away. the fire department is asking that neighbors avoid using fireworks, including so-called safe and sane ones.

>> the last several years we've had vegetation fires that were started by illegal fireworks. so my plea to you to the community of oakland is that you just watch the shows that are licensed to be had they keep the fireworks off the street. >> the police department says they will have officers deployed across the city on the 4th to look for illegal fireworks, illegal drug and alcohol vending celebratory gunfire inside shows. the fire department says they will have extra crews out as well. and they're also partnering with neighboring cities. >> to make sure that we if if there are any fires that are started, we can catch them in city and state before they get large. >> and finally, anyone caught using illegal fireworks in oakland could face a fine of up to $1000. all right, back live now, one of the most dangerous places for wildfire to a startup is in the oakland hills. and for that reason, the fire department is actually going to close grizzly peak boulevard, which goes along. >> the top of the oakland hills from 06:00am on july 4th in the morning until 06:00am on july 5th, the next day. so

for 24 hours. but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> thank you, charles. good to now. all right. we'll talk about our forecast. 11 them are camera come about tampa. kind of hoping that that's not where we're going to see friday night for the fire blocking our view. that's always the trick and it's a there's a virus go right above the marine layer and you have to kind of see it up there. ya, a little tricky. and it's going to be a tough forecast this week. but right now. >> san jose. absolutely beautiful. basking in the sunshine today. but you head over to the golden gate bridge and we've had the clouds kind of hanging out there and notice. we're starting to see a little of the blue sky underneath there. so that's a little bit of an improvement from where we started the day today. temperatures, though, happening bay, 57 san francisco 60. we should be about 67 degrees at the heat of the day in san francisco today. that would be normal, right? but we're not going to get there today. but you can see we are warming up in spots livermore. we made it up into the 90's. so that's where the heat is right now. that inner east bay is holding on to the

warm temperatures. but notice if we look across kind of the entire bay area, we are certainly cooler than yesterday with the exception of half moon bay here and livermore, which need a little more reading. even half moon bay actually running 2 degrees warmer than we were yesterday. so the cloud cover there. it is hanging out at the coastline here. start to break up a little bit. but not to the tune of getting any sunshine out there. also your i comes out here offshore to see that there is some stormy weather is well, but thankfully is kind of moving away from us. but that's going to be an interesting part of our forecast this week as it does bring a very slight, very tiny, less than 10% chance of dry lightning strikes from thunderstorm activity will be the extreme north bay that were to take place but doesn't look like we'll probably see a whole lot of that. just want to mention it. we are getting breezy out there. and tonight we are going to see those clouds increase a little chance of drizzle temperatures staying mild. what i come back, we'll talk a little bit more about the rest of the week. >> thanks so much. the san mateo county civil grand jury has issued an accusation against sheriff christina corpus for willful or corrupt misconduct in office. this

accusation coming after the matter was referred to the civil grand jury by the board of supervisors last november. the allegations against the sheriff includes one count of conflict of interest and 3 counts of that allegation. the sheriff is scheduled to appear in court july 15th to answer the accusation last week, the san mateo county board of supervisors voted to proceed with forcing the sheriff out of office. she has maintained her innocence. happening tomorrow, golden gate bridge tolls will go up by $0.50. fast track will now be $9 and $0.75 and pay as you go goes up to 10 bucks. golden gate ferry also increasing by $0.25 per trip. that on wednesdays from 10 in the morning to one in the afternoon, the golden gate bridge will close 2 lanes for road maintenance. this is scheduled to happen every wednesday until november 2 center lanes will be closed. they're going to do some repairs to potholes and asphalt there. and if the weather doesn't hold on

wednesdays, those closures will be moved to thursdays. in national news, president trump is floating a whole new idea about temporary passes for undocumented immigrants working in agriculture and hospitality. our washington correspondent reshad hudson has reaction. >> president trump is signaling a possible change in his immigration enforcement strategy, at least temporarily where people pay taxes with a farmer can have a little control. the president says he's open to allowing undocumented immigrants in key industries like agriculture and hospitality to stay and work under temporary the strongest immigration guide that there's ever been but i'm also the strong this farmer guide that there's ever been. the president's comments come as lawmakers and business leaders warn of severe labor shortages. migrant workers are swept up in deportation some of those industries. do you got upwards of a quarter of their entire employment force?

>> in its second attempt, oakland international airport is pushing to change its name to include francisco. the move is stirring up some controversy yet again. kron four's will tran reports. >> if you are flying into oakland this morning, it is oakland international. but you know that name change that they wanted. the only reason why they don't have san francisco bay oakland because the judge prevented them. so

they said, you know what? let's go back to the drawing board. let me show you what it looks inside the word oakland is prominent inside all of the terminals fly oakland. so what they want to do is lean back into the city. oakland last fall. they wanted to be san francisco bay, oakland, a judge, an sfo and has city attorney said no, you can't do that. that's why they are not going to do that. for now. and then over the weekend decide it. let's go back to where it all started. let's start off with oakland, san francisco bay international airport got a chance to talk to some travelers. here's their reaction to the second attempt. what do you think about just going from san francisco bay to now oakland, san francisco bay? one thing do something, i guess it could change it to making sure oakland's first. so they know they're going to oakland. lot of confusion for people that are not from this area. when you start changing names of airports. >> when they don't have an

understanding of how the bay works and where. and is a k >> starts muddying the waters as cfo and san francisco attorneys. they will revisit this. they heard of the name change instead of san francisco bay. now it's oakland, san francisco bay's. so that's not first. as far as the name san francisco. but they're not happy yet. they want to revisit this implies that basically they don't even like the main san francisco in the oakland, san francisco bay. >> all right. let's look outside now at sfo and the marine layer that's moving in and pilots here to talk about. well, that is it's just it was yeah. i don't think it moved out at sfo. it's going on the coast all day today, but we've gotten. >> this like that of improvement in places. i'll show you, but you can see it right now from the east bay. there's a marine layer right there, very close. in fact, you gives the indication it'll be rolling back in 68 right

now in oakland, a pretty nice, obviously were below average today, though, in many 17 miles per hour out of the west. that is the wind. it is breezy out there are going to do that again. half moon bay has been very gray all day. you can be, you know, barely see this morning, anything here or at least we got a little more visibility. but it is certainly kept things a little bit cool. temperatures out there in the 50's. we just hit 60 degrees in san francisco. that is still well below average. and as we look inland, it depends where you're looking were below average up in the north bay. we see, you know, low 80's and some 70's. we are actually above average in spots like livermore. right now up to 92 degrees over in the east bay, south bay, running a little cool to right now. san jose about 78. so, you know, the east bay obviously not performing like the rest, the bay area, which is definitely reacting to this marine layer start today. wind gusts picking up as we head into the afternoon. that's kind of stay the same for the last week or so. and that will be the case for us tonight, too, with the marine layer is really going to be on the move quickly here. so this is about 4.30, watch. what happens? we get to

about 7 o'clock tonight. boom. it starts rolling in and it rolls in pretty quick and then we get an awful lot of coastal drizzle popping up tomorrow morning, as you can see here. so that means we're going to start off foggy. and then tomorrow afternoon, we will actually start to warm up again. right now. we've got a little what's called a cutoff low little low pressure sitting off the coast and you can see it's dragging a little bit of unsettled weather around it. now. it is staying offshore for us. and that's some good news. and there is high pressure sitting out in the pacific right now. so that's going allow us to warm up a little bit. once that low starts to move away. but with that low does is it taps into some subtropical moisture? we % actually have a tropical storm right now down in the pacific. kind of part of that rated, drag some of the moisture up and then we get the possibility of some of these kind of unsettled conditions. and that will happen between now and wednesday. very, very slight, less than 10% chance. frankly, i think it's less than 5% chance that we see anything out of that. but just something to keep an eye on that front rolling through. we actually start to cool down the time we head to friday. so that gets a little tricky because we are going to have a cold front and that does have

and democrats are using that to try to delay the process. it's time to fold. the clock's ticking for congress to permanently extend president trump's 2017 tax cuts and spend 350 billion dollars on the border ahead of his july 4th deadline. this bill is good for the american people who work hard. republicans don't need democrats to get this bill through congress, but they need almost every senate republican. >> kentucky senator rand paul says it's too expensive. this bill will grow the deficit. and senator tom tillis in a blistering floor speech said the bill broke president trump's promise not to cut medicaid from people who deserve it in north carolina felt best case scenario is about a 26 billion dollar cut after announcing his opposition, tillis announced he is not running for re-election. i've done what i'm going to the senate's bill cuts. 1.2 trillion dollars in federal spending largely to medicaid and snap benefits. the congressional budget office says nationwide 11.8

million americans would lose medicaid coverage. it is caviar over kids. democrats united in their opposition to the bill tried to delay the vote section one on sunday. senate clerks read out loud the entire 940 page bill. now republicans have slim majorities in both the house and the senate version of the big beautiful bill that passed the house. >> did not have the votes to pass in the senate. now, if the senate passes this big, beautiful bill, it will have to go back again to the house for another vote in washington. i'm today some lot back to you. >> president trump will be at the opening of alligator alcatraz tomorrow as the little used airstrip deep in the florida everglades is being turned into a temporary immigration detention center that is miles west of miami on the side of the abandoned dade collier training and transition airport in the big cypress national preserve and over the weekend, workers set up tents and trailers at that

very little used airport. the detention center is being built to house up house up to 5,000 migrants. the land is surrounded by swamp land. it contains alligators and snakes, environmental groups late on friday filed a last-minute lawsuit to halt the facility's opening. some human rights groups have also called this inhumane several 100 protesters also gathered on saturday near the airstrip. they say construction of a detention center here will cause long-term harm to the everglades. >> kb you want >> this is new audio from law enforcement in idaho where firefighters were allegedly ambushed by gunmen over the weekend while responding to a brush fire. the county sheriff says at least 2 people were killed in this attack. the sheriff says an unknown person allegedly set this fire and

then hid in the woods and began shooting at the firefighters as they arrived on scene. the fbi did find that suspect dead in the mountains, a firearm beside him. it's unknown how he died. authorities have not revealed a motive. back in the bay area. and one person in critical condition after they fell from a san francisco high rise and landed on an on ing the san francisco fire department says this happened saturday afternoon on green street in the city's russian hill neighborhood. crews used ladders to rescue the person. officials are not sure from how high the victim fell. the sfpd is investigating. to keep you safe. first responders are sharing some water safety kit tips, whether it's swimming or boating, be aware of local warnings and high tide or strong currents. keep your life jacket on. and if you happen to get caught in a rip current, don't fight it. swim parallel to the shore and tread water. also if you're at the beach, be aware of sneaker waves.

>> swimmer, professional storm or professional surfer. >> we've rescued all of from ocean beach from our coastline. we recommend that you go to a lifeguard protected beach rather than san francisco beach. if you want to go in to swim the closest beach to san francisco as stenson beach in marin county for by protection. >> as the fire crews often respond to off-leash pets. are people going over the rocks? also they're saying never attempt rescues yourself. call 9-1-1. >> i'll talk about forecast outside with latest. how dry? >> it is in the east bay because in the weather center now tracking the tropics. want to live or no. we do have a tropical storm in the pacific. tropical storm flossie. and you can also see there's a little bit of area of interest that's over florida right now. there's another one that was a little bit of a storm earlier in the weekend. and then we have a second one that is actually kind of try to get its act together, has about a 30% chance of development in the reason we keep an eye on that.

>> is exactly because of what's happening here this week. when you start to see the stormy weather offshore, you get this little low pressure that's kind of dragging some of that trust subtropical moisture. and what it does is it brings in a little bit of energy that can cause disturbances and unfortunately could set off under storms. now, we don't really have a large chance of this happening. but to the north of us very different story. you can see they have red flag warnings. now. this is north of clear lake, but you can see goes all the way up to crescent city all the way over to, you know, spots like chico and and that means that they have to be keeping an eye out in reading as well for fire concerns over the next couple of days because some of this can touch off lightning that dry lightning can then cause fire to start. and we have a lot of dry ground out there. so it's why when i see the marine layer here, i kind don't mind it, right, because it is a little moisture recovery for us. it's really all that we get during this season. so we're going to keep an eye on that. that is kind of through wednesday will be north bay that we have to kind of watch out for this. but i don't think we have very, very big chance of this happening. maybe like a 5% chance. and that's about it. temperatures today obviously

soaring in the inner east day staying in the 60's 70's elsewhere. and we've seen like a change. kinda happened since yesterday. races that low pressure started to set up offshore. that's brought that marine layer back. ensor going kind of role that way over the next couple of days. then that's going to away. we will have a front that's going to come through thursday night into friday and that will change our forecast of it just in time for the 4th of july. we'll talk about that when i come back. >> while the u.s. postal service is reminding consumers not to put forth of july fireworks into the u.s. mail system. fireworks are hazardous. they could explode and then injure even kill a postal worker. sparklers, firecrackers bottle rockets and roman candles and any other fireworks are banned from all usps air and ground transportation systems. so anyone mailing a firework could face civil penalties, criminal charges and other consequences. new survey district, san francisco as the 4th best city to celebrate the 4th of july. the study focused

about 17 miles per hour and that marine layer. he's not really let us get a break today, right? it's been hanging out. not only that, but we also have this disturbance that thankfully he's kind of been rolling away from us. but look to the north of us. you see what's happening here. this kind of talking about some of this getting going in the later afternoon as we get the heat of the day. and that's where you have the danger of lightning strikes. so again, it doesn't look like that's going to be a problem for us. very, very slight chance likely tomorrow afternoon would be the worst of it in the north bay. if we get anything at all, it has to do thi low pressure system that's kind of sitting there on the other side of that is high pressure. and so that will start to kind of be a more dominant force as we get a little bit later into our work week. but right now you can see the marine layer is trying to be a dominating force here, just kind of hanging out over san francisco doing that thing. it does so let's take a look at our fog cast and you can see it by the time we get into about 8 o'clock tonight that marine layer will be well on its way coming in bringing with it. quite a lot of drizzle in the overnight hours. so that means we do wake up with the potential of some slick roads out there. so do be careful with that. we will see a
