the north bay. the vallejo city unified school district. >> will now be controlled locally for decades. the state oversaw the district's operations and kron four's terisa stasio explains what happens now and why school officials say for the district the best is yet to come up. >> today is truly historic moment in the life of our district. but was it unified? school district is officially out of receivership monday morning with a round of applause. city unified school district officials along with state and local representatives reflecting on the past 2 decades and spoke about the future for the district. nearly 20 schools have been under state control since 2004 when the school budget collapsed requiring a 60 million dollar loan to stay afloat. we've not only met our physical benchmarks needed to exit receivership. >> we've done it while strengthening academic systems and cook and centering on

equity board. president john fox elaborated on the work behind the scenes with staff and trustees and how repaying the loan and making substantial internal changes. >> can now open the door to local control. that will best reflect the community's needs. >> we will not take this moment for granted. we remain committed to strong physical discipline. that means living within our means. planning responsibly. and being transparent in our financial decisions. >> and truly, but i believe that the future is bright because choosing to invest in it. believe in it and be part of it. >> others spoke about the pivotal moment for the district and the hope for a brighter future. and now that decision no longer have to pay 2.3 million dollars a year to some credit that money can go toward supporting instruction, supporting the programs that have recognize. hear from

family engagement and for the improvements that students have made in mathematics. >> theresa kron, 4 news. one man is dead after a police shooting in antioch. it started around 7.15, this morning on osprey drive. when police say they got a call about a man threatening to kill everybody in a hole according to police when officers arrived, the man rushed them with a knife. that's what officers say. they shot him. the man died at the scene. people who live in the area say it's typically a safe neighborhood. >> was great neighborhood. never know crimes. no trouble around here. do, however, see cops because they don't need them around here. i've been pretty safe and been. it's been 13 years. can't complain. >> the man who died, his name is up in release. the contra costa county district attorneys office is now conducting criminal investigation. >> police in san jose announcing they have arrested a 14 year-old for attempted murder. they say the teen does have ties to again. the original incident happened

back in may when police say the teen started shooting at a man in the car. this is surveillance video of that shooting. the car was hit several times, but fortunately the victim was not injured. then earlier this month, police found the suspect in san jose with a gun that was stolen in reno. >> this was brazen daylight hours and we're just lucky. fortunate that no one was injured. it will tell you this crime juvenile offender juvenile crime continued to evolve. and we must hold juveniles that act in this manner accountable for their actions. >> the teen is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. >> the san mateo county civil grand jury has issued an accusation against sheriff christina corpus. >> for willful or corrupt misconduct in office. the accusation comes after the matter. >> was referred to the civil grand jury by the board of supervisors in november. the

allegations against sheriff corpus include one count of conflict of interest and 3 counts of retaliation in response to the accusations. sheriff corpus is lawyer shared a statement that reads in part these grievances are not unusual in large law enforcement agencies undergoing modernization meaningful reform. sheriff corpus stands by the integrity of her decisions. the san mateo county deputy sheriffs association released its own statement saying they are not surprised by this decision and they say the sheriff must be removed. sheriff corpus is scheduled to appear in court july 15th to answer questions about the accusations. this comes a week after the san mateo county board of supervisors voted to proceed with forcing sheriff corpus out of office. >> we're just a few days away from the 4th of july and in the east bay oakland, city officials are reminding folks there that all fireworks are illegal cut for charles clifford is in oakland and he has more.

>> well, here in oakland, the hills, as you can see behind me here are bone dry. and today the fire department is asking folks not to use fireworks. they are illegal in alameda county. but if you are going to use them, use caution. every year, thousands of illegal fireworks are set off across the city of oakland. this is video from a few years ago with 4th of july. just a few days away. the fire department is asking that neighbors avoid using fireworks, including so-called safe and sane ones. >> the last several years we've had vegetation fires that were started by illegal fireworks. so my plea to you to the community of oakland is that you just watch the shows that are licensed to be had they keep the fireworks off the street the police department says they will have officers deployed across the city on the 4th to look for illegal fireworks, illegal drug and alcohol bending. >> celebratory gunfire inside shows. the fire department says they will have extra crews out as well. and they're also partnering with neighboring cities. >> to make sure that we if if there are any fires that are

started, we could catch a and city and state before they get large. >> and finally, anyone caught using illegal fireworks in oakland could face a fine of up to $1000. fire department also says the grizzly peak boulevard will be closed from 06:00am july 4th until 06:00am july 5th. so for 24 hours, but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. dry hills. >> we're charles was oakland's saying here is you go further east mount diablo. it is bone dry out there. >> bone dry. and kyla is here too. well. >> you're not on issue about the fireworks done that. that always not a great because they have the sunshine. i have to say. i just get so nervous for all the animals that go running when the fireworks go off rates of that's the reason i like to leave it to the professionals. think there's enough out there blue skies out there today in san jose. and it's a beautiful day. we've had the fog hanging on the marine layer hanging on really at the marine at the >> golden gate bridge. you can

see it right there. little breezy in san francisco right now. temperatures have been below average. we should be about 67 this time of year in san francisco. we've topped out at 60 degrees here. so you can see obviously will cool. not supple livermore, though, where they got up to. 92 are now sitting at 91 but half moon bay where the clouds are that you just saw there sitting at the coast. that's definitely cool. this is a difference in temps from 24 hours ago to now. so many spots running a little bit cooler than we were yesterday. makes sense. right now. we've got that little low pressure system. we've got a cutoff low that's sitting right off the coast and you can see it's also generated some of this kind of stormy weather here. and then also you see it up in the far reaches of northern california. unfortunately, we talk about how dry it is out there. that could be some danger for them. and in fact, they're going under red flag warnings right now because of it. we don't have that. but we do have some breezy conditions as we head into our night. we do have the marine layer returning this evening. temperatures staying relatively mild. we'll talk a little bit more about the rest of the week. when i come back a bit. and cuyler. happening

tomorrow. golden gate bridge tolls will be increasing by $0.50 fast track users will. >> now be paying $9 and $0.75 per trip. and if you pay as you go, you'll be paying $10 to cross. on wednesday. the golden gate bridge actually going to be closed for road maintenance >> it's scheduled every wednesday until november 2 center lanes will be closed down potholes and asphalt asphalt are going to be repaired. maintenance will kick off at 10:00am and it will run till 01:00pm. the transportation district says the bridge will return to a three-lane configuration. once the maintenance is completed on wednesdays. now, if the weather does not permit workers to complete their tasks, the lane closures will be moved to thursday. >> commuters can expect to pay a bit more the next time you ride caltrain starting tomorrow. rates are going up there to $0.25. still be $4 now and eligible discount. riders fares will go up to $2

ride. caltrain says it delayed a $0.50 base fare increase in 2023 to avoid discouraging people from getting on board post pandemic. >> happening tomorrow, gas prices here in california are set to increase most likely between 6 and a half and 11 and a half cents a gallon because of an increase in excise tax and the implementation of a new low carbon fuel standard. the excise will increase gas prices by one and a half since rather per gallon. let's straighten that out. and according to state officials, new low carbon fuel standards could raise prices between 5 and 10 set this extra cost aims to help reduce carbon emissions by requiring refineries to produce cleaner fuel. >> for your help to details in a contract negotiation, blue shield of california and uc health agreed to extending go. shuns this will allow blue shield members to continue to access uc health as an

in-network provider. the extension is for an additional 30 days allowing members access uc health through august 9th. uc health is san francisco's biggest medical center in a statement blue shield of california says we continue to negotiate in good faith to try to reach a new agreement. >> the administration is threatening to cut all federal funding from harvard university following an investigation. a federal task force sent a letter to harvard on monday finding the university violated civil rights laws requiring colleges to protect students from discrimination based on race or national origin. it says investigators found harvard was at times a willful participant anti-semitic harassment of jewish students, faculty and staff and that campus leaders allowed antisemitism to fester on the campus in cambridge, massachusetts. the administration says all federal funding will be pulled. the school fails to take action.

international. but you know that name change that they wanted. the only reason why they don't have san francisco bay oakland because the judge prevented them. so they said, you know what? let's go back to the drawing board. >> let me show you what it looks inside the word oakland is prominent inside all of the terminals fly oakland. so what they want to do is lean back into the city. oakland last fall. they wanted to be san francisco bay, oakland, a judge, an sfo and has city attorney said no, you can't do that. that's why they are not going to do that. for now. and then over the weekend decide it. let's go back to where it all started. let's start off with oakland, san francisco bay international airport got a chance to talk to some travelers. here's their reaction to the second attempt. what do you think about just going from san francisco bay to now oakland, san francisco bay? one thing do something, i guess it could

change it to making sure oakland's first. so they know they're going to oakland. lot of confusion for people that are not from this area. when you start changing names of airports. >> when they don't have an understanding of how the bay works and where. and is a k >> starts muddying the waters as cfo and san francisco attorneys. they will revisit this. they heard of the name change instead of san francisco bay. now it's oakland, san francisco bay's. so that's not first. as far as the name san francisco. but they're not happy yet. they want to revisit this implies that basically they don't even like the main san francisco in the oakland, san francisco bay. >> all right. we'll trend reporting for us there from oakland as we take a look at the other one here in royale. that's sfo. yeah. no mistaking that a kailua. the west.

>> just say i like both there for and i play out their in grade. they're just. >> you know, we can all we can all we can all have love for both of them. i think beautiful as we take a live look from the east bay's, we're going to start over a little closer to oakland airport gorgeous skies out there. but you can see as we look a little further away, you do see that marine layer certainly is making its presence known. 68 degrees in oakland right now, sir, start to pull back a little bit from our highs today. we breezy 16 miles per hour. wind out of the northwest there. and as we take you out to the coast, you can see we have hung on to the clouds quite a bit there, too. so not a whole lot of change today for that. that's why we've kept to the temperatures. just the 50's out half moon bay, but our inland temps. that is the story today in the inner east bay. that's where got into some of those 90's. everyone else kind of running a little bit below average today. and that will be the story today. but tomorrow will start to see these temperatures move up a little bit. we will be gusty and you can already see gusts kind of happening right now. we're getting into the thick of it as we go through our afternoon. and as far as the marine layer is concerned,

taking this kind of putting it into motion, you can see that it's starting moving rather quickly. tonight. lots of drizzle in the overnight here. you can see very misty. and that means that those roads could be a little slick for you tomorrow morning. so be ready for that. and we will see that pull back as we get into the afternoon. this is a little cut off low and you can see that stormy weather right there. but as we kind of zoom out notice there is high pressure sitting out the pacific so soon is this starts to move along. that high pressure will replace it. and that's why we're going to see some of that. you know, whether get a little bit warmer as we get into tuesday wednesday, thursday. we also have a tropical storm. this is tropical storm flossie down off the coast of mexico and that is providing a little bit of energy, which is why we're starting to see a little bit of that. subtropical moisture make its way into the forecast. we talked about this last week and you can see as we go through the week, there's going to be a front as well. that comes through thursday friday just in time for the 4th of july, which will. >> cool us down a little. but i don't know. but the clouds, we get a front. you get cloudier weather ahead of it. look, you know, clear behind it. what is it about 4th of july? it's always the clouds

have the memo. we got a know, it's such a nail-biter forecast and then it's really talk is like if you're high enough up there on russian hill, you might see the fireworks above the marine layer depending on how you know, did the marine layer is it's a tricky forecast. i'll be all over it. we get a little closer to it. all right. thank kyla. pink triangle was taken down in san francisco wrapping a pride weekend. >> organizers assembled it on twin peaks little earlier this month for the 30th consecutive year. founder patrick carney led the effort for the removal with the help of volunteers. >> it's one of the most gratifying parts of triangle involving people that it brings out there probably than 10,000 to 12,000. people over there 30 years have helped. and it's really so beautiful families from far and wide bring their children in from livermore from iran to make people one-on-one and to learn about the holocaust. >> during world war, 2 pink triangles were used to mark and people by the nazis. and

now it serves as a reminder to stay vigilant and uphold lgbtq rights. earlier this month, a man was arrested for vandalizing the pink triangle damaging. 26 tarps. carney says they kept the defaced tarps to send a message. >> know, i still got 2 weeks ago. i mean the vandalization here because some sense, powerful message. that's why the team trying interfere in point out to discrimination. but if it gets vandalized, sort of follow gets into the mess with. >> the triangle will be stored until next year's pride month. >> and for the 55th year, san francisco transformed into a vibrant celebration of pride over the weekend lending history, hope and activism. our kron four's lindsey ford spoke with those who say this year's events were. >> more than a party. they were a powerful call for love and equality. >> is resists yeah.

president. donald trump says his talks with iran are dead, doubling down in a post saying, quote, telephony democrat senator chris that i'm not offering iran anything. president trump, i press accounts is now moving towards negotiation. told fox news sunday the u.s. and iran were still talking about a potential nuclear agreement somewhat similar to the iran deal that was offered by obama 10's of billions of dollars of incentives and reduce sanctions in exchange for abandoning their nuclear program. >> white house press secretary karoline leavitt gave few details leading them to the president's middle east envoy steve witkoff that communication continues was a kid iran appeared skeptical of negotiations and said the country would also not allow nuclear watchdog inspectors with the united nations to visit the sites. the u.s. bombed president trump would not say whether these inspections would be a sticking point in the potential negotiations. the position is the one that prevails here. state department spokesperson tammy bruce says all decisions

>> now at four-thirty, president trump has given congress a july 4th deadline to pass his agenda and the budget bill. that's friday. washington correspond of an ace in lot. reports on what's next. >> the senate's locked in what's called a vote. a rama senators can offer an unlimited number of amendments to this big, beautiful bill. and democrats are using that to try to delay the process. it's time to fold. the clock's ticking for congress to permanently extend president trump's 2017 tax cuts and spend 350 billion dollars on the border ahead of his july 4th deadline. this bill is good for the american people who work hard. republicans don't need democrats to get this bill through congress, but they need almost every senate republican. >> kentucky senator rand paul says it's too expensive. this bill will grow the deficit and senator tom tillis in a blistering floor speech said the bill broke president

trump's promise not to cut medicaid from people who deserve it in north carolina felt best case scenario is about a 26 billion dollar cut after announcing his opposition, tillis announced he is not running for re-election. i've done what i'm going to the senate's bill cuts. 1.2 trillion dollars in federal spending largely to medicaid and snap benefits. the congressional budget office says nationwide 11.8 million americans would lose medicaid coverage. it is caviar over kids. democrats united in their opposition to the bill tried to delay the vote section one on sunday. senate clerks read out loud the entire 940 page bill. now republicans have slim majorities in both the house and the senate version of the big beautiful bill that passed the house. >> did not have the votes to pass in the senate. now, if the senate passes this big, beautiful bill, it will have to go back again to the house for another vote in

washington. i'm today some lot back to you. one person is in critical condition after they fell from the san francisco high rise and landed on an on ing. >> the san francisco fire department says this is around 5 o'clock saturday night on green street in the russian hill neighborhood. crews used ladders to rescue the person. they're not sure how high the person was. the sfpd is also investigating. >> new at 4 police's sonny bill are investigating after a robbery at a jewelry store. this is along east camino real police say that the thieves used car to break through the front of the store and then several people used hammers. then to smashed display cases. this is a look at the damage left behind the thieves. got away in other cars that were waiting for them. when police arrived, they began to chase one of the getaway cars. but the chase was called off today. concerns over public safety. not clear how much jewelry the thieves got away with one person inside the store was injured and taken to

the hospital but is expected to recover. leave it better than you found it. that is the message from the people in charge of keeping lake tahoe blue ahead of the busiest weekend on and around lake tahoe. >> at least this time of year, people left the colossal tahoe beach is the 4th of july here in 2023. and while last year saw definite improvement leaders at keep tahoe blue. want to see people go even further. >> picking up any litter that you might bring to the beach during a waitress that you find, even if it's not yours, if you can cover a full your bike to the beach. if you bought it off, backup plan and also just be patient kind. everybody's here to have a good time we were together and kind of keep the lake it might be in the people. keep a blue. >> on july 5th volunteers are needed for the 12th annual. keep tahoe red, white and blue beach cleanup. we'll go to keep tahoe blue dot org to learn more about that. and

experts say to clean, drain and dry your watercraft before putting it in lake tahoe. in an effort to prevent invasive mussels from entering that pristine habitat. and as the weather warms up and summer celebrations heat up ahead of july 4th. >> first responders want you to know some water safety tips. so whether it's women or boating want to be aware of local warnings on high tide or strong currents, keep your life jackets on to stay prepared. case of emergency. if you happen to get caught in a rip current, don't fight it. just one parallel to the shore and tread water. if you're at the beach also, you want to be aware of sneaker waves. >> avid swimmer, professional storm or professional surfer. >> we've rescued all of from ocean beach from our coastline. we recommend that you go to a lifeguard protected beach rather than san francisco beach. if you want to go in to swim the

closest beach to san francisco as stenson beach in warren county for by for protection. >> so fire crews often respond to off leach pads or are people going over the rocks? the public is urged to stay aware and call 9-1-1. don't attempt rescues yourself. >> all right. let's talk about the weather as we get a live look here at the san mateo bridge. you know, nice and warm. but those certainly not swimming weather at the local beaches. not yet. lawrence is here to. >> tell us all about, know, that's true. we've got fog kind of socked in along the coastline. and of course, you've got call they coming up as well. so a lot of folks probably be flocking to beaches as well. but well, the yeah, not cooperating exactly out toward the beaches. you can see that finger fog already stretching inside the bay. looking down from our mount tam cam out there as well in the winds kind of kick it up to go along with that, too. so kind of cool right along the water's edge in spots. and you can see right out toward a pillar point toward half moon bay over not of the clouds of kind of just kind of locked in along the

coastline and that's kind of the way it's been playing out except some of the coastal valleys, still seeing some sunshine there. and of course, a lot of sunshine inside the bay and many of our interior valleys, too. so yeah, the temperatures reflect those big changes to get to san francisco. you've got some sunshine, very pleasant. 66 degrees right now. oakland, checking at a sunny 68 little breeze there as well. warm 79 in san jose. hot 91, though, in livermore. 91 also in concord, 77 degrees kind of in between and warm in santa rosa. and yeah, the coast yet they've got that fog and much cooler temperatures only in the 50's. well, yeah. kind interesting how things are setting up right now. we've got an upper level disturbance and you can see what it's doing. you see some of those thunderstorms begin to pop up off the coastline and over the sierra nevada, specially the shaft area as well. going to be tracking that here in the next couple of days. it's good. moving a little bit closer. there's a slight chance we could see some thunderstorms possibly in the north bay as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. right now, low clouds and fog it re to surge back on shore. we're going to see plenty of those clouds overnight tonight. so

and san jose. 75 and beautiful and sunny in palo alto. 66 now in san francisco. hot 90 in sonoma. 77 in santa rosa and a cool 58 with that fog today. bay. it kind stay out there right now. you've got storm clouds popping up. you've got into a weak area of low pressure, kind of spinning off the coastline that low producing numerous thunderstorms. that's not that far off the coastline. of fact, only about 134 miles away from the coast, but nonetheless, expected to spin off the coast and not move on shore for now. still thunderstorms, real possibility in northern california, even a slight chance in the north bay. so we've got some red flag warnings being posted. you get some of these thunderstorms. they can cause some erratic fire conditions. some very strong gusty winds, maybe 50 mile an hour gusts some of those bases. watched that very, very closely see over the next couple of days as that low moves on by. kind of spinning around, moving on through as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. more of that in the afternoon are beginning to pick up again. then that kind of moves out. temperature wise number you're looking 60's in the san francisco along the beaches. we keep cooler 50's low 60's plenty of fog out coast side numbers warming up inside the
