in las vegas. this happened in the last 30 minutes. >> jeff joins you live from unlv where the governor signed the bill less than an hour ago. it was a culmination of last week's special session. >> that's right. speak up because i can barrel by hear in here. the governor signed two measures into law that paved the way for that stadium, that also the las vegas convention center and authorizes the clark county commission to boost sales tax for more police. so let's roll some video. this is the governor signing the so-called senate bill one and assembly bill 1 into law before a packed hall at the center on the unlv campus. a jam of lawmakers, laborers,

having all sorts of events that we cannot currently have because we don't have the stadium big enough to hold them. we're going to leave and talk to a bunch of other people. it's an exciting day and you get the sense it's a new chapter for nevada history. by the way, did i mention that stadium, the new home for the nfl football rebels. a very thank you. excellent job staying on top of the developments. the man suspected in a shooting and car chase on the i-15 that ended in a drugstore is scheduled for a hearing tomorrow. 29-year-old kenneth mcdonald went on a shooting rampage on the i-15 saturday morning. police say he shot and killed a woman in another car. the driver of that car was also wounded in the shooting. family members identified the

were just heading to lunch when the suspect shot at them, hitting donahue in the neck. she died at the hospital. sources close to the case tell us here that the couple was shot because they were in an old style car that looked like a police vehicle. the suspect allegedly thinking that he was shooting at a police officer, instead shooting this innocent couple. police planned to discuss the shooting today at0 bars today after accidentally shooting her four-year-old daughter. 30-year-old shaltres townsend was arrested by metro sunday. both parents, a family friend and three other children were home at the time. the mother left her handgun on a chair close to where the children were playing and the gun went off, injuring the 4-year-old. maybe i should say i don't know if she was the one who pulled the trigger but somebody in the

that gun was left out sitting on a chair. the child was taken to umc and she's in stable condition. that's great news. three other children were taking no child protective services. >> a crash happened last night around 9:45. the victim is a 37-year-old man. he was not in a marked crosswalk. witnesses say the driver just took off. if you have any information that can help pole responsible, call crimestoppers, 7. a henderson man is accused of attacking a unl law professor and know he faces a judge. >> michael mattingly is responsible for leaving this unlv professor bloodied and

the facility. any more answers at this point on a motive? >> reporter: that's what we were hoping for. michael mattingly did face a judge this morning but the motive still remains a mystery. it's a big question. we talked to michael mattingly's family outside the courtroom in the hallway. they said that this attack is senseless. michael is not a violent person. their prayers are with the victim, leslie griffin, and bail was $200,000 for michael mattingly, accused of attacking leslie griffin october 7th. witnesses say mattingly was kicking griffin. he was walking when he saw her fall to the ground. mattingly is on supervised release at the time because of separate battery case from early this year. he faces battery and attempted

carjack a woman who stopped to help griffin. he talked to the hospital. griffin's condition has been upgraded from critical to serious. mattingly expected back in court november 2nd. today on the campaign frail, donald trump holding events in wisconsin and then colorado and that's ahead of coming to las vegas for the last debate wednesday. on the democratic side hillary clinton has no public events debate. coming up at 12:30, we'll have a preview of the debate. there's a lot happening there. we'll have details. the presidential debate of course bringing unlv to the national and world stage but that spotlight as we've been talking about comes with a lot of traffic headaches for us locals. between 4:00 and 10:00 that night on debate night, wednesday, there's going to be a series of closures on the road.

watch out for lane closures logical i-15 south from sahara to the airport connector. that's the entire stretch of the las vegas strip. most of the closures around mccarran international airport. if you're flying out on the 19th. plan head and prepare for delays. of course news 3 will have full coverage of the debate and the rest of the campaign through election day. you can find the latest on news 3lv.com and media platforms. we're still keeping an eye on the october fire burning in caio canyon. it was caused by an illegal campfire. it started friday and crews from two acres to -- grew from two acres to 27 acres on saturday. a lot of it had to do with the strong winds we've been feeling through the weekend. the fire not threatening any structures. that's the good news anyway.

turning to the conversation, talking about the weather. the winds were fierce. >> they really were, 50-60 miles an hour gusts on mount charleston. 73 miles an hour gusts were reported. it's quieting down. this is from the las vegas day school camera in spring valley. camera shaking a lot to get started. the trees dancing then everything slows down. the winds are cadence, lake mead parkway and warm springs. winds west-southwest 10 miles an hour. we had a gust overnight to 56 miles an hour. how about that. men doze elementary school 7-mile-an-hour winds. compared to the gusts over 39 miles an hour. those were the peak gusts overnight. for the winds for the rest of the day, 5-15 miles an hour is it. highs today topping out in the low 80s.

a cell phone video shows the chaos after the coronado bridge in san diego on to a crowd of people on saturday. in this video you can see them, that's the driver they just pulled out of that wreckage there. four people were killed when that truck barrelled over the side, went 60 feet down. it landed on a tent. there was a biker festival happening. the video, bystanders can be seen giving first aid as police arrive. the driver identified at

supolio is active duty navy stationed there. he remains in the hospital with serious injuries. today iraqi and kurdish forces launched an offensive on mosul and iraq. this is the second largest city in iraq so an important stronghold. one reporter from cnn was caught in the gunfire, whole thing caught on camera. american air power. >> wow. that's nick payen walsh, his team traveling with iraqi forces when caught in the middle of that. the gunfire with isis. cnn's crew the first western media outlet to have traveled along the road into mosul.

rains in the area. authorities report 23 homes, 17 out buildings and seven barns have burned. officials statement the fire has burned 3400 acres. the rain has held but there's still a lot of work to go done. about 500 personnel, they're still fighting the flames. 60 engines and the national guard are assisting with the firefight as they effortlessly and through the night, day and night. tying to put it out. in our own backyard in mount charleston, we're fighting this october fire. with that wind, that creates problems. >> that's a big part of it. not just for the fire here in on mount charleston but the one in the northern portions of the state. the wind has been a primary factor but the winds are

really blowing and the camera shaking. it quiets down though as we get toward the end as winds diminish. here's a look at the temperatures as you step out the door. summerland 76, paradise 80. sunrise 78. the big story is the winds and notice the difference, summerland 7-mile-an-hour winds. paradise 2-mile-an-hour winds. -- i've seen gusts up to 20 miles an hour but thas it's a huge improvement from the 40-50 miles an hour gusts during the overnight hours. there is still a wind advisory. the area in tan in san bernardino county, in california. if you plan to take the 15 toward los angeles, keep that in mind. a wind advisory until 2:00 this afternoon. the las vegas and clark county, that has been allowed to expire.
