that's metro police officer gill calling dispatch after a bizarre encounter. police say 55-year-old james francis smith sideswiped the officer in traffic near wigwam and maryland parkway last november. gill followed smith to nearby desert bloom park when this happened. >> he tried to ram two parked cars. shots fires. >> reporter: four year later the radio traffic and police photos are being released in this fact finding review. a chance for ask questions through an appointed ombudsman david fisher. >> did your investigation determine anything with respect to a medical episode. >> no. >> reporter: the incident was captured on police body cameras. school district officers were at the park investigating an unrelated fight call, interviewing two juveniles when they say smith drove right at them. both officers opened fire,

gauge shotgun, two swords, a police baton and a large knife in smith's car. in the month before the shooting police learned smith had just gone through a divorce and was recovering from colon cancer. neighbors say he had started acting erratically shaving his head and eyebrows. threatening a long-time friend with a gun. his ex-wife telling investigators this. >> she found evidence of marijuana use and believed he was also using >> reporter: a tragic fall for a man with no criminal record shot dead in a public park. smith had worked as corrections officer on rikers island in new york for many years before moving to las vegas about ten years ago. as for the officers involved? the district attorney's office has already determined they will not face charges. denise rosch, news 3. >> reed: an update to the tragic death of a 7-year-old boy in our valley. the boy's mother is under arrest

the mother malone joins her friend kenneth robinson in county jail also charged. he was arrested sunday after the boy, richard finley, was found with what police call obvious signs of abuse. police say malone was home at the time of the alleged abuse. >> latoya: the city of las vegas ranks number one for burglaries. that's according to numbers from the fbi. the list compares cities with more than a million people. there were more than 14,000 brea year. don lee with security assessment group says there are easy ways that you can protect your home. he recommends getting a security door. he says the most inexpensive solution is to change the dead bolt screws in in your front door. >> go to home depot and buy three, three-and-a-half inch long screws. take out the quarter inch long screws that the manufacturer has in there and put these in.
