>> reed: we begin with that history making news, cuban state television announcing the death of former president fidel castro of cuba. thank you for joining us. >> anchor: no cause of death was given for the leader of the 1950's cuban revolution. here's a look at some people in miami celebrating the news of castro s death. we look state just 90 miles from u.s. shores. >> reporter: for more than four decades fidel castro was anti-americanism personnified. throughout the cold war the cigar smoking cuban deck tater delighted in being a constant thorn in the side of u.s. presidents. castro's revolution was born this the remote mountains of

insurgencies throughout central america and africa, but his conditions worsened at home, thousands began to flee the island, risking their lives in the 90-mile boat trip to the united states. as the soviet union collapsed, so did cuba's economy. with no subsidies, castro was forced to court the hated capitalists, asking business toes invest their western currency in cuba. as time passed castro beg broke his knee and arm, and had surgery. as his dealt declined he turned power over to his brother, raul. but cuba now faces an uncertain future. bruce hall, nbc news. >> reed: my last television market was miami, i can guarantee there will be no other

there. >> reporter: it's a different experience than sifting through hoards of people in search of the best deals during the black friday rush. the retail association of nevada estimates 970,000 black friday shoppers hit the stores today, with many retailers opening yesterday evening. it's a shopping trend that's become more popular with big box retailers, but small business saturday is aiming to start a new trend, a home grown shopping pride that gorman says thrives on the local business scene. >> there's a humanch my customers know all the people on staff and hey do vice verdict a, it's very family, very different. >> reporter: small business saturday will take place tomorrow with many retailers right here in tivoli village as well as payne retailers downtown. so if you go, snap a pick with your favorite small business

he had left the home, after that shooting occurred. then police found out that that man had a warrant out for his arrest. they were holding him until they found out what type of role he played in this shooting. as families wrap up the holiday, parents in this neighbor off sunrise and eastern say the focus has shifted from giving thanks to concern over violent crime. >> involved in gangs and drugs and all that other crap. >> reporter: as the body of a man lies i this father says what bothers him most. >> things like this happen every day, right next-door and people's kids can see, that's a shocker. >> reporter: officers say a young hispanic man was inside his apartment when he was shot in the chest. investigators are questioning a woman who was at the time and brought him outside after he was shot. that's where he died. >> his missing one shoe, just

who caught most of our attention when he escaped an interrogation room back in september, to be recapture days later. north las vegas police say 25-year-old alonzo perez is now linked to two other murders. this is surveillance video of perez' escape from north las vegas police. perez was being questioned at the time for the murder of muhammad robinson. robinson was killed at a mcdonald's when police say he didn't hold the door for perez' girlfriend. now police link ballistic evidence from robin to two others. perez is due in court on januar. >> reed: nye county sheriff's deputies make an arrest,. in.

cloud cover, mostly to the north of us for today. but like we talked about, big changes are on the way and here's the culprit right here. over the next several hours, continuing to move into the coastline, bringing some abun dan snowfall to the sierra, between 6 and 12 inches above 5,000 feet and up to two feet of new snowfall in some of the highest peaks in the sierra. also such snow to the north of us, may see some sprinkles around the higher elevations in our area. chance of expectedded to be on sunday, tapering off into the next work week. a closer look, we do have a few weather alerts to tell you about, this is mostly going to be a winner vehicle because worry getting the tail end of that trough that i moving through our area. but like i said, gusty winds, we're talking sustained win 25 to 35 miles per hour. this goes boo effect tomorrow night at 7:00, it's going to be a bumpy right overnight saturday into sunday and remains in effect through sunday at noon.
