right now. rather breezy and windy today. once we get past the morning clouds but not very warm 50s, 60s, and a lot of low 70s. steve right now we have a look at a terrible accident that happened last night. three lanes of southbound 880 are open after a car hit a man. witnesses say the highway patrol was called just after 12:30 this morning. reports of a man crawling across the roadway. when officers arrived the man was dead. the highway patrol shut down when they conducted their investigation. those lanes were opened about 2:00 this morning. let's move to a live picture of 880 and traffic continues to look good here. in fact it has recovered. so as we mentioned the freeway was open and traffic is moving well in both directions. at 5:00 let's go back to the desk. overnight we learned a four- month-old baby reported missing over the weekend in contra costa county is safe and sound.

ktvu jade hernandez is joining us live from knightsen to tell us about the unanswered questions surrounding this 24 hour long search. jade. >> reporter: that is right we are live along tool lane. this is where the baby was reported missing from her crib. we know at this hour the baby has been found. in fact we checked in with the contra costa county sheriffs office this morning. she was found hours ago. that is after an extensive search with dozens of volunteers and canine units. we don't know the four-month- olds condition. this is a picture after ram my gallego. also unclear how a four-month- old disappeared from her bassinet. she put the little one down to sleep at 10:00. hours later she was gone. it took 20 minutes for the parents to call for help and why it took so long. authorities couldn't explain. the search pulled in 100 law enforcement officials, canine units along with volunteers.

they lived along tool lane. >> there wasn't any indication there was a family dispute or abduction. the child doesn't have the ability to disappear on her own. >> reporter: the sheriffs office called the national center for missing and exploited children but again this morning we can report the the four-month-old ramy gallego has been found. we don't notify the circumstances -- we don't know the circumstances surrounding that finding. time now 5:02. overnight news a prison riot in san quentin sent four inmates to the hospital. 200 inmates were involved in the riot. started just before 7:00 last night in the prison tining hall. this is a live look outside the

prison as we speak the guards inside used nonlethal bullets and pepper spray to break up the riot. ten inmate made weapons were found during that riot. the cause of it is still under investigation. this morning police in antioch are look for suspects in a deadly shooting. it happened shortly before 8:00 last night on d street. investigators say they found the 19-year-old victim lying on the sidewalk. he was rushed to a local hospital where he died a short time later. now it's still not clear what lead up to that shooting but police say they are following several strong leads. a man police are calling the primary aggressor in the bryan stow attack is now behind bars in los angeles. ktvu allie rasmus is in san francisco at san francisco general hospital with more on the arrest and reaction. >> reporter: giants fan bryan stow is still in critical condition here at san francisco general hospital. his mother and sister came to visit him at the hospital

yesterday hours after this arrest was made. stow's family says they are incredibly relieved that one of the men suspected of beating and injuring stow outside of dodgers stadium is behind bars. the family also expressed gratitude for the arrest saying quote we would like to thank l.a. pd for all of their hard work in this case. we are overwhelmed with many emotions this case. investigators say their work is not done yet. the man arrested yesterday 31- year-old giovanni ramirez is one of three people that police are looking for in connection to the beating. the tip for his arrest came from his patrol agent. several witnesses at the scene picked out ramirez out of a photo lineup. he has been convicted of prior offenses, robbery, attempted robbery, and a weapons violation. we republican expecting to hear

buildings and structures. the death toll may go higher as the search and rescue teams go into wreckage like this go door to door looking for people who may possibly still be trapped. president obama is in ireland this morning then he begins a four-day european visit. coming up at 5:15 we will have a live report from our washington, d.c. newsroom with what the president hopes to achieve with his visit to ireland. back here in the bay area this week vallejo city leaders will discuss medical marijuana dispensaries. a dozen medical pot clubs are doing business in vallejo. on tuesday city council members will consider wording for am pot sales tax measure for the november ballot. the city could reportedly net about $250,000 a year in revenue according to early estimates. time now 5:06 highway

closed down for nearly five days. starting today one way traffic control will be in effect for part of the highway at echo summit. that is going to cause about a 20 minute delay. the one way traffic control will allow the cal tran crews to finish work on a crumbling rock wall. highway 50 will reopen in both directions on the weekends until all of that work is done. 5:06 is the time right now. let's check in on traffic. how does it look? >> it looks pretty good. good morning we are looking at interstate 80. traffic is getting busy. it will be effected by the wind. there is still wind advisories for the bay bridge and san mateo bridge out there. there was also a wind advisory for the altamont pass. bay bridge looks good from oakland. also the morning drive from san jose is doing very well on northbound 280. let's go to steve. thank you.

we have gusts of 53 miles an hour. and 48-50 at point rays. there are a lot of gusts that are well up there at 25-30. in fact sfo has a gust of 30. there is a lot going on here. mostly cloudy right now. clouds, sun, breezy to windy. mostly sun any tomorrow and a little warmer. by wednesday cloudy skies and it's sure looking like rain from santa cruz mountains and as we go north. temperatures will continue to be on the cool side. so today gusts 30 plus miles an hour. that is mainly at the surface but some of the higher elevations you can get over 30 to 50. it will be a breezy, blustery day. right there the system swinging in and giving us mostly cloudy skies. the mere fact there is no clouds at all is impressive. there is low clouds and higher clouds. so 40s and 50s. upper 40s and low 50s.

welcome back. time now 5:12. new this hour president obama is in dublin ireland visiting the u.s. embassy there. the president is kicking off this week long trip to europe and hoping it will pay divides back here at home. >> reporter: the president is going to be paying a visit to the hometown of his ancestors in the small irish village of moneygall. here is a look of the president and first lady arriving a few hours ago. his great, great grandfather on his mothers side was irish and visiting his hometown could be a boost for the president with irish voters back in the u.s.. during talks with irish prime minister the president emphasized the blood bond between the two countries and the connection between this

tough time. >> we want to continue to strengthen the bond of trade between our two countries and that we are rooting for ireland success and we will do everything we can to help on the path to recovery. >> reporter: from ireland the president will travel to london, france, and poland. reporting live alison burns. former san francisco supervisor tony hall who is running for mayor has paid off an ethics fine levied against him years ago. they fined hall $6,000 back in 2008 in relation to a run for supervisor in 2004. he was fined for poor recordkeeping and using his campaign credit card for personal purchases. time now 5:14. california public schools may be able to restore money they plan to cut out of next years

budget. funding levels should stay the same as last year. that is according to a school advisor hired to interpret the state budget and education laws. that tickets will have the money to hire back laid off employees if funding remains flat. but he's warning school districts don't start hiring back employees until lawmakers actually pass that budget. police in antioch are asking for the publics help as they look for answer in a florida's man mysterious death. they found the 27-year-old man floating in a lake at a state park late friday night. they immediately performed cpr but were unable to save him. he was visiting family members here in the bay area but police do not know how the man died. they are asking anyone to contact them right away. this morning two suspects are in custody for the severe beating and robbery of a man in east palo alto. that happened early yesterday

on addison avenue. two young men attacked the victim after they stole his wallet. the victim was badly hurt but is expected to survive. 5:15. facebook is hiring ambassadors to represent its interests around the world. the 600 million members live outside of the united states. while the social network says its new directors of policy will act as multilingual communicators. it's part of a bigger push to improve its government relations both here in the u.s. and abroad. it's 6:s minutes after 5:00. let's check back in with sal. any problems? >> right now the only problem is the wind. it's pretty windy out there. we have been mentioning the altamont pass. the bay bridge has wind across it. but there are no major traffic problems. san mateo bridge also daisy

driving along that -- dicey driving along that span. you will notice the wind for sure very gusty at times. in the south bay it's calmer there. traffic is moving well on all the freeways. let's go to steve. thank you. and speaking of the wind. gusts to 34 miles an hour at sfo. so it's definitely out there today. also some of the higher elevations up to 50. altamont pass has a gust up to 50. we should see a decrease. it will be a breezy cool day. all associated with that system right there. nevertheless this time of year doesn't take much. especially with water temperatures cold. we are not getting any heat in the valley. the mere fact the fog continues to form is clouds are keeping us on the cool side. sfo west 17. west southwest fairfield. northwest santa rosa. livermore is also west, southwest at 10-15.

well stocks are sliding again around the world this morning. signs of a broad selloff have been building in the past few weeks as concerns about death across europe continues and signs the u.s. economy continues to struggle. investigators are buying up some stocks though. shares of utility, household products, and large cap companies that are less vulnerable to an economic downturn. checking in on the number. here's where we start the day. dow, nasdaq, and s & p slipping. european markets are all down. some of them nearly 2% this morning. so it looks like a lower opening for us as well. beer prices are on the rise. the average price for a case of beer is $20.34. that is 2-3% higher than last year. part of the reason for the increase is because beer makers are paying more for barley.

we have mostly cloudy skies. breezy to windy. that is up near the altamont pass. 50 miles an hour. so it will be a mostly cloudy morning and then mostly sunny breezy but cool this afternoon. all right steve. a volcanic eruption in iceland is forcing delays for international travelers. all of this smoke and ash from the volcano forced them to cancel a flight from green land toecappen hagueen. and planes that are flying over the atlantic this morning they are being advised stay away from iceland. that included air force one which arrived with president obama in ireland this morning. as we have been telling you

all morning a violent tornado in joplin, missouri killed at least 89 people. i want to show you live pictures. this is a chopper view of the damage from the air. about two hours ago authorities held a news conference and they said hundreds more have been hurt in all of this damage. coming up at 5:36 we'll bring you a firsthand look on the ground in a live report. we'll also have the very latest on the search for any possible survivors. former minnesota governor pawlenty is officially in the race for the republican presidential nomination in 2012. he made the announcement in an internet video. >> the truth is our country is in big trouble. we have far too much debt. too much government spending, and too few jobs. >> tim pawlenty says he will tell the american people the truth suggesting president obama is not. today pawlenty will formerly announce his candidacy in a

town hall appearance in iowa. meantime indiana governor mitch daniels sent an e-mail to his supporters after long consideration he will not run for the 2012 presidential nomination. it's believed he decided not to run because of opposition from his wife and his four grown daughters who didn't want to face the intense public scrutiny of an intense public race. that happened saturday afternoon on silver oaks way. the blast blew out the windows, part of the porch and left a huge hole in the roof. two men and a woman had to go to the hospital for severe burns and injuries. now evidence gathered from the scene points to some sort of illegal drug operation inside the apartment. >> for them to do that knowing i have a kid upstairs and all

the neighbors is horrible. horrible experience. >> neighbors also say they could often smell marijuana coming from the apartment where that explosion occurred. time now 5:25. headaches are sending millions of people to emergency rooms every year. that is according to a new federal report that just came out this morning. the report says of the three million people who go to emergency rooms for headaches, 74% are women. all together 97% of patients are usually treated and then released. those patients actually admitted they are typically having migraines. a new list of the healthiest cities in america is out. several california cities made the top of the list. rankings from the american college of sports medicine shows minneapolis is the healthiest city in america. close behind san francisco at number six. the unhealthiest city in the

60s and 70s. right now this is a look at the high wind sign getting on to the san mateo bridge. you can see traffic is moving well but the high wind sign is there and it's there for good reason. it will be quite a drive on that bridge this morning. winds you can kind of tell and driving out there will be an adventure. just take it easy. you will see the traffic is moving along okay. nice picture there. alsos morning commute is moving nicely. this morning an exconvict and a known gang member is in the los angeles county jail. police say he's the primary aggressor in the beating of giants fan bryan stow outside of dodgers stadium seven weeks ago. allie rasmus is at san francisco general hospital now with more on this arrest and reaction. >> reporter: san francisco general hospital is where giants fan bryan stow has been for the past week.

he's still in critical condition and he's been unconscious for the past seven weeks since he was beaten outside the dodgers stadium. stow suffered a severe head injury and police say at the hands of two other men outside the stadium. l.a. police followed up on hundreds of tips. there was a $100,000 reward leading to the men responsible. police put in thousands of hours to track down the fans suspect. >> he said the words i've been waiting for for seven weeks. he said that we had bryan's assault suspect in custody. >> reporter: 31-year-old giovanni ramirez is one of three people police are looking for in connection to the bating -- beating. the other man involved and a third woman involved in driving the get away car. the tip from his arrest came from his patrol agent. police say several witnesses at

the bryan stow tab. three lanes of southbound 880 are back open that is after a man was hit on the freeway overnight. witnesses called the highway patrol just after 12:30 this morning reporting a man crawling across the roadway near the fruitvale exit. when officers arrived on the scene the man was dead. the highway patrol shut down three lanes of 880 to conduct their investigation. the lanes reopened just after 2:00 this morning. strength police are searching for -- san francisco police are searching for suspects after a drive by shooting. that happened near hayes and buchanon streets just before 9:00 last night. a gold car drove up to a group of boys at a bus stop and started shooting. the boys were shot in the leg. their injuries are not life threatening but avenue but no arrests have been made. the two uc berkeley graduates imprisoned in iran we

are allowed to phone home. shane bower and josh fattal told their family they staged a 17 hunger strike when they were banned from getting letters from home. the phone calls lasted less than five minutes. families say bower and fattal sound reasonably well. closing arguments are expected to wrap up today in the chauncey bailey murder trial. that case could go to the jury as early as this afternoon. yusuf bey is accused of killing bailey. seven people were rescued in toe mallless bay after their boat capsized. they became stranded yesterday afternoon about 1:00. the sonoma county sheriffs

helicopter brought them safely back to shore. a small craft advisory was in place yesterday. swells were as high as ten feet. about two hours ago we learned a violent tornado in joplin, missouri killed at least 89 people. jim spellman is in joplin this morning to talk about the search and rescue efforts that are still under way. good morning, jim. >> reporter: good morning, to you. people here in america's heart land waking up to heartbreak and devastation after terrible storms rolled through the midwest. parts of joplin, missouri unrecognizable. tornado pulmoabled the city early saturday evening. >> it's total devastation with the hospital down, the high school down. >> reporter: the governor has deployed the national guard. right now the focus is finding victims. >> if there are folking that are injured and covered as the

night gets dark we are out there trying to get as many survivors as possible. >> reporter: st. john's regional medical center took a direct hit. >> every window looks to be blown out. there is debris hanging out of the windows. there is cars sacked all over the parking lot. >> reporter: the hospital was evacuated. a makeshift triage center was set up outside to care for patients and victims. >> semis laid over on their sides. there were several off on the ramp that were laid over. several people up on the banks that were hurt bleeding. they were walking wounded i guess. best way to put that. >> reporter: the tornado was part of a system that spawned twisters in other parts of missouri and several other states. we know in addition to the 89 dead here in joplin that one person is dead in minneapolis. just to give you a taste of the power of the storm.

x-rays from this hospital right here have been found 70 miles an hour. it's a devastating storm to say the least. back to you. >> jim spellman there in joplin, missouri. meantime that tornado in joplin was part of a severe weather system that rolled across the midwest yesterday. a tornado also touched down in northern minneapolis killing one person and injuring other 30 others there. another swept through a small town in kansas. killing one person and damaging 200 homes. you have one more chance tonight to let water districts know how you feel about proposed rate hikes. you want a 4% rate hike. it would hold $4 to every two month billing period. the resident said the district will get the money some other way before asking the public to pay out more money.

california's annual crack down on people who don't wear their seat belts starts today. more than 150 law enforcement agencies and the highway patrol are taking part in the click it or ticket campaign. the fine for not wearing a seat belt and getting caught $142 for a first time adult offender. $445 for a child not buckled up. the click it or ticket campaign will end june 5th. an estimated one million do not wear seat belts. >> i'm always surprised by that. and kids in cars without car seats and such craziness, sal. >> it's just crazy, pam and dave. welcome back dave. let's go out and take a look at what we have now. traffic is moving along pretty well on the san mateo bridge but it is very windy. the chp has issued a winded a i

morning. and cool temperatures actually which has been this way for the longest time. we get a little warmup and bring it down. it looks like a similar pattern this week. not much in the way of warmer weather. the wind continues to be front and center. gust avenue gusts easily -- gusts easily over 30 for some. there is some upper 30s, and 40s. you get into the higher elevations it's a brisk morning. spinning in the atmosphere is going over us. that's why it has picked up the winds. upper 40s to low 50s it doesn't matter. livermore starting off the morning at 50. 64 and 70 degrees. it should be closer to 80. a far cry from the average temperatures. west 28 sfo. west at napa. it looks like a west wind to me and a sea breeze on shore push get a little spin in the at
