clark. we'll check weather and traffic. did you thank steph steve for stopping -- thank steve for stopping the rain? >> it was a pretty good system. a little warmer today. first full day of fall. clear skies. storm track i guess it's that time of year to say that once we get our first rain has moved north. so we don't have to worry about that. clear skies. that had a little patchy fog. cool to mild. sunshine and warming up today. a lot of close for the up day. mainly 50s. coast, bay inland. everyone is pretty close here. sunny and warmer for fairfield today. starting off clear skies. we'll go for a high of 81 degrees. we'll bump those lies up. you can see the storm track or jet stream. it will dive toward the sierra nevada on wednesday. but today it's lots of sunshine

and good to go with slightly warmer temps. even the coast looks good today. here is sal. steve, good morning. right now traffic is doing pretty well around the bay area. we look at commute starting at the bay bridge -- or on interstate 880 heading up to the toll plaza on the right. that traffic looks good with no major problems here. there are no problems southbound heading to fremont. this is a look at toll plaza. westbound traffic is light coming into san francisco. if you are driving on 580 from livermore as you drive to 238. it's been a decent commute. and the rest of the commute on 880 looks good. now 5:02 let's go back to the desk. topping arethas right now pg&e crews are still on the scene of a gas leak in san bruno. it began just after 8:00 last night at the intersection of san bruno and san mateo avenues. good news the crews tell ktvu alex savidge that leak has been capped and no danger to the neighborhood? >> no, not at this point. the leak has been capped but

repair work is going on. i can show you behind me pg&e crews are doing some of that repair work as we speak here in the middle of the street. right at the intersection of san bruno avenue and san mateo avenue. and this leak last night was all triggered by construction workers who are working on a major project here to elevate cal train tracks in this area. pg&e workers again right now were called in to do some final repair work and get this line repaired. it was spewing natural gas for five hours overnight. even though the leak has been capped, you can still smell sort of the faint scent of gas in the air. just after 8:00 last night workers with the private construction company ruptured that under ground gas main. there were no evacuations ordered but no one was hurt. the area is sealed off for a tile. this leak made a lot of people nervous. it happened three miles away from the deadly san bruno pipeline explosion back in 2010.

because of the proximity to the train tracks. cal train had to be stopped because of this leak. passengers were put on to buses but i'm told services will be back to normal. the leak was capped at 1:00 this morning. pg&e crews able to do that. the ruptured pipeline being repaired right now. it's unknown how long it will take. even as that repair work happens, construction will continue later on today. live in san bruno alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. time is 5:04. we are following developing news from kenya where several large explosions were heard this morning at that shopping mall where terrorists are still holding hostages. we want to show you new video. look at the smoke. reportedly two of the attackers were killed in a military operation this morning. and american from north carolina describes the scene during the attack over the

weekend. >> we stood up and started to turn and we heard machine guns. and then we started to run and it was the second explosion which knocked us on the ground. >> at least 69 people were killed in the attack. 175 more were injured. it's believed at least ten people are still being held hostage. reportedly the gunman specifically targeted nonmuslims. al qaeda connected group out of somalia has claimed responsibility for the attack on the shopping mall in kenya. coming up at 5:15 the fbi investigation into reports that some americans are among those attackers. >> one of those injured in the mall attack in kahne yeah is a uc berkeley graduate. she posted a picture of herself getting treatment for facial cuts. >> i don't want people thinking that something about kenya like i'm very prideful for the country. and i love kenyons.

even though i'm american. >> elaine works as the general manager for eat out kenya. a website that helps visitors find restaurants in kenya. oakland police are busy investigating a deadly shooting. it happened last night just after 11:00 on e street. police say the man died there at the scene. wiz don't know -- we don't know his name yet. the city of oakland could go back to a controversial plan to cut down on crime in the city. tara moriarty is joining us live in oakland where a city councilman wants to impose a city-wide curfew on teenagers. >> that would be noel gal low. he is the one spear heading this latest effort. unsupervised teens are contributing toward or the victims of violent crime. so this week he will be

introducing a proposal to bar teens under the age of 18 for being out in public areas. if someone breaks the curfew they could face fines, community service, or jail time if they are found outside a public area from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.. this is a very deeply controversial issue and some say crime is a personal choice even though the innocent shouldn't be penalized. gallo says something has to be tone. hear a little bit more about his reasoning behind the proposal coming up in our next half hour. live from oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. six people believed to have been bound and gagged victims are due in court this morning. they are charged with killing 26-year-old steven reed. he was found tied up on brussel street last december with a

young woman that was seriously injured. the defendant and the victim knew each other. the trial starts this morning for the man accused of trying to rape one of his teachers in redwood city. now this is 21-year-old david va last kids. when he was 19 he tried to force his teacher into her car at knife point. when she fell to the ground he tried to rape her but was stopped by another teacher. the clock continues to tick down toward another possible bart strike. just 17 days remain until the end of the court ordered cooling off period on october 10th. later this morning bart management and its unions will be back at the negotiating table. there are meetings scheduled until winter. they are expected to begin at

jacqueline fell is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with the reason the fbi may be tied to this attack. jacqueline. >> reporter: measures of al- shabab claiming responsibility for the mall attack they are claiming americans were involved. the terrorists group turned to twitter and named the gunmen who stormed into the west gate mall saturday. we're hearing reports three to five of those gunmen are americans. i just talked with the fbi and they were unable to confirm their involvement or tell me if those claims are legitimate. the group's twitter account has been suspended. and authorities here in the united states are checking with the families of those named. the fbi is in minneapolis where two of the americans may have been living the minneapolis st. paul area is one of the largest somalia populations in the united states. a panel on climate change is preparing to brief world leaders on what they call a

welcome back. time is 5:23. long distance commuters are driving up home prices again. home prices are up 30% in the last year. but that is still only two- thirds of what homes were selling for at their peak in 2005. more bay area workers want to buy. that is pushing them into bidding wars for the best properties. closing arguments start today in santa clara county over a trial of what should be done in old led paint. they are suing paint makers for almost $1 billion. now the lawsuit claims the companies knew for decades that led paint could peel off and be dangerous. alameda, san mateo, and san francisco counties are among the plaintiffs that want the companies to remove led paint from millions of older homes.

it's believed there are five million homes with led paint in those cities and counties that are filing that lawsuit. the cost of paying coaches at cal are going through the roof. a study by the san francisco chronicle shows it's costing the athletic department at cal more than $16 million to bring in coach sunny and pay off former coach jeff. department says the money is coming from boosters, from donors, ticket sales, merchandise and tv revenue. in case you missed it, the oakland a's are heading to the playoffs. the a's claim the american league west title during the final home game of the season. the a's found out they were heading to the playoffs during the third inning when the texan rangers lost to the kansas city royals. champagne is flowing as the team shared their excitement with the fans.

we will warm up. first full day of fall started yesterday. 1:44 in the afternoon. it will be sunny today. so you get rain and sunshine. we have clear 50s. a couple upper 40s to the north. by lunchtime sunshine will be nice. temperatures mainly 70s or low 80s. but i mean we're inching up after we had that cool down over the weekend. anything as far as cloud cover stays to the north. temperatures especially toward santa rosa and napa tries to get into the upper 40s. so far it's not happening. sunshine and patchy morning fog but not much. and the temperatures today mainly 70s. we talked about or low 80s. here is sal. all right. right now we are starting off pretty well. we are starting to tell things are getting busier. first of all we are looking at interstate 880 and traffic in both directions here is moving well. if you are driving north or southbound up to downtown

janine. >> reporter: dave, you can see levi stadium right behind me. it's really taking shape. right next to it is the youth soccer field. there is talk it needs to be move to make way for packing spaces for football fans. now recently city leaders met to discuss options on where to relocate the youth soccer field. the mercury news is reporting the new 49er stadium is about 5,000 parking spaces short. which is why the city has proposed moving the soccer field so it can be paved over for parking. one of the proposed spaces is you'll stack natural area that has wetlands, native plants, and birds and butterfly garden. they have started a group called save you'll stack. they fear moving the soccer fields to the open space will ruin it. but the paper reported city leaders are saying the park would not be destroyed and the wetlands would remain intact. as a temporary fix the city is

looking at letting 6,000 cars on the fairways of the city owned golf course. it's temporary because a retail shopping area is planned for that space. reporting live from santa clara janine de la vega if ktvu channel 2 news. the 49ers star aldon smith won't be playing because of a dui. smith will be taking an indefinite leave so he can get some treatment. smith was arrested on friday morning in san jose on suspicion of driving under the influence. his pickup truck slammed into a tree in a residential neighborhood. now smith did talk to reporters after the 49ers lost to the colts yesterday. here's what he said. >> this is a problem. it's something i will get fixed. i will do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again. >> aldon smith was arrested last year in miami on a dui charge. it was reduced to reckless driving. he also faces a civil lawsuit

at an incident at hiss home where he suffered a minor stab wound. jed york did not say when smith would return to the team. oakland could revisit a controversial plan to cut down on crime. tara moriarty is in oakland this morning. tara. >> reporter: gallo says unsupervised teens are contributing toward or being the victims of violent crime. he says we sorry about violent crime. we have prayed about it. gallo is introducing this proposal this week. it would actually ban youths under the age of 18. now if someone breaks the curfew they could face fines, community service, or jail time if they are found from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.. the plan also bars minors from being out and about during school hours from 8:30 in the morning until 1:30 in the

afternoon. parents even could be penalized if their children are found unaccompanied. this isn't the first time the controversial curfew has popped up. many say curfews don't work. they have proven ineffective in other city. gallo says they are not doing this to lock everybody up. he was elected in november and represents the fruitvale district. coming up find out who is supporting him and who is knocking him including what mayor jean quan has to say about a city wide curfew. live from oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. a san francisco strip club is taking oracle to court. new century theater is suing oracle. the club claims an oracle employee charged more than $33,000 in strip club service ons a company credit card and oracle has not paid up. it allegedly happened over two nights during last years open world conference. this year's conference is going on right now. it ends on thursday.

oracle's open world conference is under way in san francisco. 60,000 people from around the world are expected to head to moscone center between now and the conclusion on thursday. some people say they are here for the parties and social events. others say this is strictly business and networking purposes. >> things that used to run in an hour now run in a few seconds. it's a dramatic improvement in query and analytic processing. >> organizers say this is one of the biggest annual conventions in san francisco every year. people attending this time around expected to spend more than $3400 each for hotels, restaurants, taxis and registration fees. if they stay after the convention they of course spend even more. sonoma county authorities are searching for a man accused of attacking a woman after their dog got into a fight.

it happened yesterday morning along the fountain lake trail. investigators say the man wrapped a leash around the 60- year-old woman's neck. ripped off her eyeglasses, and threw her cell phone into the lake. he then kicked her dog and ran away. the suspect described as a white man about 50 years old. about six feet tall with a thin build. he had a brown and gray beard, gray hair, and wearing a red baseball cap. his dog nay have been a -- may have been a brown and white australian shepard. later today a teachers union will file a lawsuit to keep san francisco from shutting down. accreditation is threatening to pull the schools accreditation. but today the california federation of teachers will announce it is suing in san francisco superior court on behalf of 85,000 students and 1500 faculty members. starting this afternoon casual car poolers in san francisco will have a new

happening now the search is on for two missing crew members that crashed into the red sea. they are search between northeast africa and the arabian peninsula. three crew members were rescued and are now being treated. it's a night hawk helicopter. similar to the one we are showing you here. it was based in san diego and flew from the destroyer william lawrence. the crash was not caused by

the bombings on april 15th killed three people and wounded more than 260 others. tsarnaev is also charged with killing a police officer at mit. new this morning a mortar shell landed in the compound of the russian embassy in syria and believed syrian rebels did it. earlier this month, the united states and russia drafted a plan calling for syria to give up its chemical weapons as you know. that averted a possible u.s. military strike. over the weekend the syrian government handed over an inventory of its chemical weapons stockpile and syria's president said there is no need for military threats against his country. >> international opposition for and against syria who has opposition within the u.s. because there are no justifications for it. >> this week the united nations will vote on a resolution to authorize the use of force against syria if it does not comply with the terms of the agreement to turn over chemical weapons.

a san jose man says he never lost faith that an arrest would be made for the hit and run crash that killed his wife and friend on labor day. on friday police arrested 24- year-old suspected gang member danny coleman. coleman hit and killed 63-year- old carmen and 62-year-old castro. the women were on their way to work at san jose airport. castro's husband did not want to show his face. >> it's a very sad this happened. but you know. we have to move on. but i'm very happy that it being. >> police say coleman had help avoiding capture but so far no other arrests have been made. time is 5:46. an avid base jumper died over the weekend in a pair shooting accident on mount st. helena.

winter. right now they have scheduled their opening date for late november. >> wow. many amazon workers angry about the time they spend going through security checks and now they have filed a lawsuit. workers say they are not being paid for the time they take to go through antitheft checks. they say it could take as much as a half hour a day. a similar lawsuit in nevada ended with the workers being paid for that time. amazon is not commenting. twitter is in discussion with several banks about a new credit line that could run into hundreds of millions of dollars. details of the loan still not being worked out. and the government will introduce new $100 bills next month. some will be worth more than ten times that value. it not because of a printing error it's because each bill has a serial number on it and collectors are willing to pay high prices for those with the lowest serial numbers. the bills with the very lowest

the offshoot store from abercrombie and fitch. they will announce details of the settlement at a news conference later this morning. gasoline prices nation-wide are down about six cents in the last two weeks and they may go lower. the average price in the continental u.s. is just $3.50 now. the california average is $3.97 a gallon. that is up 16 cents since the first part of this month. but bay area prices have slipped slightly in the last week according to aaa. san francisco has the highest priced gasoline in the nation. $4.08 a gallon. it's $4.01 in san jose. oakland's price $3.99. they are forecasting it matron as much as 45 cents by halloween as we switch over to winter blend gasoline. later this morning san francisco your ed lee will kick
