when it comes to the weather definitely a winner. >> gorgeous. >> 70s yesterday. a near repeat for today. maybe slightly warmer for some. san francisco, oakland, san jose one of our three of many that could see a new record for the afternoon. giving you a live look into san jose, upper 70s today for our south bay locations. first we want to take a look at the current conditions, if you're stepping out this morning, 47 san jose. 46 livermore. 44walnut creek. we have a bit of cool weather for some. at the bay, temperatures 54 oakland. 52 sfo. half moon bay at 65.

44 manlo park. san mateo 47. for some where it's calm it's a cool start. as we get into your afternoon everybody expected to go into the 70s, at least most of us from the coast or on the bay and inland. here's a look at santa rosa, a quick rebound by 9:00, 10:00 feeling fairly comfortable. mid- to upper 50s in the forecast by lunchtime. upper 60s under partly cloudy skies. and for the second half of your day, low to mid-70s between 1:00, 4:00, even when sun sets about 5:40, still 70 degrees. pretty fabulous day when it comes to the mild weather. when i come back i'll have a look at the numbers for your area, we'll talk about how long this dry spell is expected to last. good morning, sal. >> good morning. right now traffic is doing very well. we're going to look at one of the busiest freeways in the region, interstate 80 from the car teens a bridge to the

mcarthur. heading away from the fisherman's wharf area toward downtown still detours through the financial district. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza now traffic is still looking good with no major issues. east bay commute now, 580 westbound slow traffic on the pass, but the rest of the commute it looks good. in the silicon valley now all the freeways are off to a good start. if you're trying to get a flight at san jose, freeways doing well getting to that spot. new this morning another freeway shooting on interstate 80 in the east bay. it's under investigation by the chp. it happened in pinole last night near apian way on interstate 80. at least one person was hurt. westbound traffic was shut down for about an hour. chp says people in two cars started shooting at each other, at least one person was hit by

gunfire. both those cars fled the scene, but the shooting victim later showed up at a hospital to get treatment. it was the latest in a series of shootings on interstate 80 between pinole and berkeley that began in november. they are believed to be gang related. alex savage will have an update in a live report coming up at 5:30. super bowl l is in the books. it was the denver broncos defense shutting down carolina panthers' quarterback cam newton to win 24-10. after weeks of concern about possible rain, certainly a warm and sunny day at levi stadium. got off to a bumpy start for carolina. the panthers finally got on the board in the second quarter with a 1 yard touchdown dive by jonathan stewart to make it 10- 7. carolina had a chance to get within three, but missed that

field goal. denver with another striped sack by von miller, and they score another touchdown three plays later. then it was time to celebrate with coach kubiak getting a gatorade bath. peyton manning got his 200th career win and second super bowl ring. he was not ready after the game to say whether or not he would retire. he said he would take some time to think about it. >> i think i'll make a good decision and i think i'll be at peace with it whichever way it goes. but like i said, i'm looking forward to tonight being with my family and my friends and teammates and celebrating this special victory and this special win. >> he is the first quarterback to win two super bowls with two teams. in denver broncos fans celebrated late into the night. ♪ we're the champions, we are the champions ♪

>> they're feeling good. the fans filled downtown denver streets dancing and singing. some in the crowd did get out of control. police used pepper spray in some places. they arrested at least 12 people. denver will be holding a victory parade and rally tomorrow for the champions. [ cheering ] after the game ended, didn't take long for tens of thousands of people to empty out of levi stadium. the panthers' fans feeling defeated, the broncos' fans were elateed. >> my boys never showed up. >> and mine did. just like i said they would. >> now i'm not liking him very much. >> we're life long broncos' fans and seen them lose a few. to be at one where they win one, it's our first, it's fantastic, the most amazing thing in the world to share it with my boy. >> it was the broncos' first super bowl win since 1998.

broncos' linebacker von miller super bowl mvp. he was drafted number two behind cam newton five years ago. he's the second defensive player to be named super bowl mvp in the past three years. bay area airports expected to be jam packed today with football fans heading home. airport officials say they expect up to 50% more passengers than usual. they are advising people to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their plane is scheduled to take off. at sfo some ticket counters and restaurants opened all night. lot of cleanup work to be done i would imagine. >> reporter: oh, yeah, yeah definitely.

behind me at levi stadium they definitely have the denver broncos champion signs up there on the screen. but they still have the barricades up here, and these road closures are still in effect and that's because they still have a lot of cleanup to do. you can see all the tents are still up. it's going to take time to break down everything around the stadium. the parking lot surrounding it were used by the nfl and so was the adjacent soccer fields. we already saw rental companies coming into to haul away porta potties. that's just the beginning. tasmine will be closed here through tuesday. in san francisco more time is needed. it will take the work week for super bowl city to clear out until february 12th. heavy equipment was brought in yesterday to tear apart the attraction, so all the same closures in effect last week will stay that way. market street between beale and stewart is closed.

at the nfl experience, howard street will still be closed between 3rd and 4th street. businesses say they are ready to welcome back their local customers. >> last two days some of the busiest days we've had in our 20 year history, but it will be nice to get back to regular business. you're assaulted by the whole nfl. >> reporter: it's estimated that the super bowl costs for san francisco was around $5 million, and the city is not getting reimbursed by the nfl and some supervisors are looking into that. it's a different story here in santa clara. the city will get reimbursed for the money it spent for public safety, fire and emergency medical services. we'll be checking in on the progress as far as all the breakdown and work being done, cleanup work, in san francisco in the 6:00 hour and we'll bring that to you coming up at 6:00. >> that will be great to see

that. thank you. despite weeks of preparations, that turf at levi stadium didn't seem to hold up well during the super bowl. even before the game started the grounds keepers we saw them picking up chunks of loose grass. by the second quarter both teams reportedly were switching their cleats. players were complaining they were slipping. we saw them slipping. normally the nfl uses grass that comes from alabama. but because of the long haul they decided to go with a company from southern california instead. chipotle restaurants across the country will open late today so workers can attend a meeting about the chain's recent food safety scares. the restaurants will open at 3:00 instead of 11:00 at each of their local times. the meeting comes after the company saw its sales slammed by food scares, including an e.

coli outbreak. sales plungeed 36%, the cause of the outbreak never quite determined. there can be a long line outside a particular peets coffee shop, because warrior's star draymond green will be there serving up a special ground. green will be a barista from 1:30 to 2:30 this afternoon. >> i may have to go there. >> i know. today is the beginning of the chinese lunar new year. san francisco's mayor lee will kick it off this morning in china town. this is the year of the monkeys. festivities here will run 15 days. the highlight of the celebration will be the parade february 20th, a year from saturday, and we'll all be in the chinese new year parade in

welcome back to mornings on 2. it's 5:13. rescue crews in taiwan looking for survivors after saturday's 6.4 magnitude earthquake. two people were rescued alive today. you're looking at one of them here from a collapsed 17-story apartment building. more than 100 people are believed to be still trapped in the rubble. the government has ordered an investigation into the collapse of that building after images emerged showing tin cans apparently used as filler inside some of the concrete beams. at least 37 people were killed in that quake. this is the final full day of campaigning before voters head to the polls in new hampshire, the nation's first primary could help narrow the field. as doug lazader explains, it comes after a republican debate over the weekend may have given undecided voters something else to think about. >> reporter: the block of undecided voters in new hampshire is sizable and that

kasich, rubio, bush and cruz all within 2 points of one another. the two democrats meantime left new hampshire over the weekend. >> democratic socialism. >> reporter: bernie sanders appeared on "saturday night live." while hillary clinton traveled to flint, michigan to address the water crisis there. that was after she called out her rival's foreign policy credentials. >> there really isn't any kind of foreign policy network that is supporting and advising senator sanders. >> if you go back to 2008, this is exactly what the clinton people were doing to senator barack obama. they were attacking him. he didn't have the experience, et cetera, et cetera. >> reporter: hillary clinton meantime knows what it takes to win new hampshire. she's done it before. she won it in 2008, but based on the polls out of that state now, it's not likely to be a repeat performance tomorrow. in washington, doug lazader, fox news.

president obama is returning to the bay area later this week. the president will be in san jose wednesday to help raise money for democratic candidates. on thursday he's scheduled to attend a fund raising event. then he'll head down to southern california and spend the weekend in palm springs, where he is hosting a summit with leaders from the association of southeast asian nations. all right. time is 5:17. we're heading down to see sal casteneda. welcome back, sal. >> thank you. we're still going to have closures today. >> right. they've got to clean up super bowl city. >> got to clean up super bowl city. still might be people won't want to bring the car into the city. one thing that will be better is we're not going to have as many people coming in. there's not going to have all these fans coming down to that fan village. however, still street closures. might be a little better, but not completely better until they take down the closures

which should be at the end of this week. east shore freeway, no major problems here. will be interesting to see what the commute patterns are for the last few weeks it's been people getting into the city early with the car and a lot of people on bart and on the ferries. also look at the san mateo bridge, traffic moving well heading to the peninsula. if you're trying to get a flight at any of the three bay area airports, all the freeways getting to those spots no major issues. highway 4 this morning, bay point, antioch, 580, so far so good. filling in for steve, it's rosemary. >> going to be dry and mild for your monday afternoon. i think that will be the talk, at least when it comes to weather. a few records perhaps as we get into the afternoon as well. we'll start out by looking at

san rafael, san francisco, san jose a few here, but could be more that get close into the afternoon today. san rafael expected to go to 73. if we hit 73 we'll break the old record. 72 for san francisco. oakland at 75. just below that standing record. san jose may set a new record today, expected to go to 77. mild and warm for your monday. tuesday slightly cooler, but not by much. ridge of high pressure in place continuing to push that storm track to the north. it will remain in place the next several days. unfortunately we see no rain in the forecast as we get into the work week, perhaps even into the weekend. the winds are stirring around and because of it our temperatures are up in several areas. napa easterly breeze 13 miles per hour. not allowing that cool air to settle in. napa up by 12 degrees this morning over yesterday morning. san jose up by a degree.

47 now in san jose. 57 san francisco. we've been looking at half moon bay all morning with that offshore breeze, 61 degrees now. depending where you're at, you could be in the mid-40s like livermore. south bay locations, mid- to upper 70s. 76 in morganhill. 75 santa clara. for folks staying one more day before they head back home after the super bowl, maybe along the coast is where they'll head. half moon bay 72. 70 daily city. rip currents and large breaks along the shore still expected for today. 72 for san francisco. extended forecast there, unfortunately no rain in this extended forecast. take a look at that, we see a

welcome back to mornings on 2. a bus explosion in london huge, caused a lot of fears over a terror attack over the weekend. however, it was part of a scene for a movie starring jackie chan and pierce bronson. it burst into flames. there were warnings, but not everyone got the message. some people called police, and many people took to twitter saying people weren't properly warned in advance and children were unnecessarily frightened. people are still talking this morning about the super bowl half time show. ♪

singers made a statement about mario woods. and alicia keyes made a similar statement the day earlier at super bowl city. woods was shot and killed by san francisco police last september. police officers say he was a suspect in a stabbing and refused to put down a knife. 5:26. an investigation goes on this morning after a chase led to a deadly crash in san francisco. in 10 minutes, why the chp says its officers pursueded that vehicle. >> reporter: chp is investigating another car to car shooting along a certain stretch of interstate 80 in the east bay. we'll tell you what we've learned about the victims and the innocent driver caught in the middle of the gunfire. >> we're looking at that east bay commute and so far so good on 80 westbound heading out to

look into oakland. livermore 46. and san jose 47. offshore breeze and where it's blowing a little bit, temperatures are up by a few degrees this morning. you may step out and feel, wow, it's relatively mild out here. here's a look at what we're expecting for santa clara into the afternoon. low to mid-70s the second part of the day. as we get into sunset, 5:40 or so, temperatures still relatively mild at 70 degrees. take a look at this, partly cloudy to mostly sunny. warming into the 70s and a patch of orange, indicating upper 70s to near 80 for areas along morganhill and gilroy. we'll talk about how long this

mild pattern will last in the extended forecast. first let's get to the roadways with sal. >> good morning. traffic is doing pretty well if you're driving around the bay area, no major problems so far, anyway. let's take a look at the commute as you drive out to the east bay. traffic 580 westbound will be slow as you drive over the altamonte pass. not bad getting out to the bottom of the hill and into san jose. east shore freeway, that traffic looks okay. 19 minutes between the bridge and mcarthur maze. the chp is investigating a freeway shooting in pinole that sent one person to the hospital. it is the latest in a series of

shootings along interstate 80 over the past few months. alex savage joins us with more. >> reporter: good morning. we should point out there was an innocent driver involved. that person was not hurt, but their car was struck by gunfire on the freeway. obviously that's the concern when you have people shooting at each other like this. in this case, this happened last night in the westbound lanes of interstate 80 near apian way. chp came in and shut down all the lanes of traffic for a short time after the gunfire was reported at about 9:30 last night. the chp says people in two separate cars began shooting at each other along the freeway and at least one person was hit. both cars left the scene after the shooting, but later on one person with a gunshot did show up at a nearby hospital and was treated for those injuries. the chp says there was that third car that was hit by the gunfire, but the driver in that

case was not involved in this dispute, just an innocent bystander. this is the latest in a series of shootings that have happened along interstate 80 between about pinole and berkeley over the last few months, dating back no november of last year there have been at least six car to car shootings along this stretch of freeway. chp still working to make arrests here. they do believe there may be connections in some cases between some of these shootings. also the possibility some of the attacks may be gang-related and in most cases chp believes these are targeted attacks. however, you obviously have a lot of innocent drivers could potentially get involved and that is what happened again last night. thankfully that driver was not hit by the gunfire. >> they do have evidence that suggests these are targeted? >> reporter: yes, for the most

part. not made that clear yet. we're working to get more information. they've not made that clear yet, but the indication is last night is they had a dispute between people in two cars, they fired at each other, exchanged gunfire, and there was a third car, an innocent driver if you will, and that person's car was struck by gunfire as well. >> thank you, alex. we'll look for more information throughout the morning. 5:35. suspicious fire in santa rosa last night left a firefighter injured. happened at a home on dutton meadow drive. it had plywood on the windows that had to be taken off. a firefighter twisted his ankle. no one was home at the time. the denver broncos' defense led the way to beat the carolina panthers 24-10. many think this was broncos' quarterback peyton manning last

game. he would not commit to an answer after the game, saying he would celebrate with his family and team and take time to reflect. broncos' fans in denver celebrated late into the night. fans spilled out into the streets of downtown denver, dancing and singing. but some of the crowd did get a little bit out of hand. police had to use pepper spray in some instances. they also arrested at least 12 people. the city will hold a parade and rally tomorrow for their champions. nba mvp and north carolina native steph curry banged the ceremonial drum before the game. [ sound of drum ] >> stired a bit of excitement there. he also banged the drum before carolina's home opener against houston in september. he has been a huge carolina fan since the organization played

its first game. after the game cam newton didn't have much to say. the panthers committed four turnovers, 12 penalties. newton was visibly upset talking to the media. he only answered a handful of questions. >> they just played better than us. i don't know what you want me to say. [inaudible] >> they made more plays than us, and that's what it come down to. i mean, we had opportunities. wasn't nothing special they did. we dropped balls, turned the ball over, gave up sacks, through errant passes. >> shortly after answering that question, he said, i'm done and abruptly left the room. the faa says it intercepted three planes that violated flight restrictions around levi stadium during the super bowl. faa declared air space within 32 miles of the stadium

offlimits for most of the flights between 2:00 yesterday afternoon and midnight. the faa has not given details, and haven't said if they'll impose sanctions on the pilots involved. north carolina's governor was involved in a car accident shortly after leaving the super bowl, but he is okay. the chp says governor mccrory was traveling on highway 237 last night when the car he was in was rear-ended. a spokesman for the governor said he had minor pain but didn't ask for medical treatment. the chp continues to investigate a fiery crash that left three men dead in san francisco over the weekend. authorities say the men were in a car that was seen doing doughnuts near 5th and brian streets just before 9:30 saturday night. police tried to pull the driver over, but he took off. minutes later that car crashed

into a taxi near 9th and brannen. the three men in the car died. cabdriver was hurt. the names of the victims have not been released as yet. investigators in marin county are looking into a deadly fight over the weekend that killed two people. it happened at about 10:00 yesterday morning at the public housing apartments on cole drive in marin city. the sheriff's department received several 911 calls reporting a fight involving people armed with knives and baseball bats. by the time the first officers arrived, the fight escalated into gunfire, killing two and sending one to the hospital. investigators have identified the people involved. >> these are people that have a connection with this community. these are people who are known to us and known to others in the community. it's why we know this is most likely more of an isolated event where there's no other threat to the community. >> investigators would like to

hear from anyone who knows anything about the fight, including the reason why it started. time is now 5:39. a pregnant oakland woman says she's breathing a sigh of relief after worrying about the zika virus. she has now tested negative for the virus transmited by mosquitos. she and her husband traveled to french polynesia around christmas time. she said her doctor recommended she be tested after she developed a rash and had aches in her joints. the virus can cause serious birth defects and neurological disorders in babies. brazil has turned into ground zero for the concerns over the zika virus. that has caused some concerns for tourists heading to carnival in rio de janeiro. others say they'll be really cautious about the festival's tradition of kissing strangers. >>(translator): people have to take care of themselves against

zika, maybe avoiding kissing everyone here. >> when i found more about the illness, i'm now not so worried. >> this year's celebrations is being considered a dress rehearsal for the summer olympics. millions are expected to descend on brazil for the summer games in august and president obama is asking congress for $1.8 billion in emergency funding to help fight the zika virus. white house says that money would be used to expand mosquito control programs, develop diagnostic testing and speed up development of a vaccine. california drivers regularly pay more for gas than people in other states. today there's a meeting to discuss whether that price difference is fair. we pay more than the rest of the country for gas because of cleaner air standards and higher taxes. but some analysts say it doesn't account for all the price difference. they also say our gas prices tend to be more volatile than

welcome back. bart riders set a new record this past weekend, carrying more than 419,000 passengers saturday, and that's about 100,000 more than the previous record for a weekend day. ridership was up all last week, with three days in the all time top 10. bart plans to run longer than normal trains today to sfo to help fans from out of town get back home now that the super bowl is over. we are learning which super bowl ads won over the viewers. ♪ can't live if living is without you ♪ >> cute, right? catches your attention. you remember the product.

welcome back to mornings on 2. >> there was an unusual rescue by san jose police over the weekend. you can see the puppy looking through the drain. it's waiting to be rescued. an officer heard the animal's cries for help. another officer arrived and they worked together. it's unclear how it got stuck or if that little guy has a home. two people killed in mississippi, four others injured in a shooting after a mardi gras parade. happened in pass christian, about 45 miles northeast of new orleans. police say the shooting occured after a fight started. there were about 50,000 people in this crowd. the parade is known as one of
