lot hotter as it will be in the next couple of days or it could be windy, which is not the case. sfo has a breeze at 20 miles per hour. we bottomed out on the lows. 55 in berkeley and 57 oakland. now it is 56, 58. it won't be that bad today. 66 at 10:00 a.m. 72 at noon. and 76 for a high today for the parade. that is beautiful weather. on saturday, it will probably be 88 to 90 degrees. that won't be the case. excessive heat watch kicks in on saturday. the temperatures fire up on the weekend with near 100 for those away from the coast. there is a ton of fog on the san mateo coast that was not there at all yesterday. a little towards santa cruz. today a lot more. some of that fog has filled in for a few. a lot of temps very cold. ushering in a slightly stronger breeze. there is sfo west at 17.

it was west at oakland. now a southerly breeze. not crazy but it is there. 50s on the temps. 51 windsor. kelseyville is cool. fog will retreat but a little more than yesterday. the system once it goes by tonight and many to, high pressure will kick in big time. 60s, 70s, 80s, and a few 90s inland. >> they are in the process of closing it down. downtown oakland ramps will be closed, steve. thank you for bringing that up. 880 broad street oak street southbound at jackson. let's look at the other traffic. a lot of people still have to go to work together and are not lucky enough to be going to the parade. westbound 80, there is a little bit of a traffic jam coming around the corner to the bay bridge. the traffic will be backed up at the toll plaza this morning. it is slow for about 15 to 20, maybe 25 minutes before you make it on to the span. you can start seeing some of

the slow traffic. look at the frontage roads. they started closing 880 northbound. look at the frontage road there. slow traffic there. traffic is beginning to slow down here because they just closed oak street. and southbound traffic is going to be slow. people who maybe have been caught unaware when they closed jackson street have to go all the way down to 16th, which is out of the picture here. downtown oakland not recommended driving. fur taking the train to the parade, use 12th street, city center or 19th street stations. the stations are pretty big and can accommodate a lot of people. this is near oracle arena. traffic is okay driving by there. b.a.r.t. tweeted they are seeing long lines at the fremont station. if you don't have a clipper card or ticket already, bring $15 in cash to avoid a long line. they will just sell you a clipper card and you can get on the train with little or no delay. 7:02. back to the desk. >> we are less than three hours

away from the start of the championship parade. we will give you a live look what is happening near the parade route at 12th street and broadway. it is a scene we have been monitoring throughout the morning. you can tell that the crowd is getting bigger and bigger. most if not all of the front row spots, if you will, are already taken. parade organizers predict more than a million and a half people could attend the parade and rally. warriors fans have been celebrating, enjoying everything since the warriors won the championship, beating the cavaliers monday night. >> city leaders in oakland think today's parade could be bigger than the one in 2015. rob malcolm is live in downtown oakland. the crowd can't wait for things to get started, rob. >> reporter: that's right, gasia. everybody is excited. dave and gasia, warriors pride on sale here on the corner of 11th and broadway. i'm calling this the cash corner. t-shirts, hats, anything that you want to wear to show your

pride for the team. with 1.5 million people expected here, security is high. barriers have been set up and a motorcycle detail. we also saw a presence from homeland security as well. we're told there will be at least 20 oakland police officers per block. the oakland police didn't give us an exact number of the officers on duty but they did tell us that this will be fully staffed. meanwhile chp will be watching for backups on the busy 880. they plan to close the oak street and jackson street off- ramps as things get a little backed up and bad. again, no parking in this area. but fans didn't seem to mind. plenty of people were either dropped off or walked in. now, this is a miss work affair. everybody is expected to cheer on the team, including this one fan who wasn't even born yet. take a listen to this. >> what do you have here. >> i have a little basketball i'm breeding. a warriors fan. >> i'm happy for you but i'm disturbed at the same time.

>> all right, rob malcolm. thank you so much. we will bring in rob throughout the morning as the crowd gets bigger and even more excited. on the screen is a map of the parade route. it starts from the warriors practice facility at 11 he street and broadway. goes up broadway to grand avenue and turns on to harrison street and lakeside drive before ending at the convention center for the rally. >> while the oakland police department is in charge of security for the parade, they are also getting help from other law enforcement agencies, including the fbi. >> this is unique in that the event is spread over multiple city blocks. there are a lot of access points. there are a lot of points that need to be controlled by local police departments, by opd. tments, by opd. >> the fbi gives supports to big events like the warriors parade. fbi agents are helping inside of the oakland police department's operation center. the extra security is just a precaution. they haven't heard of any specific threats or any chatter out there. and here is a list of what you

(vo) love. it's what makes a subaru, a subaru. >> the time is 7:11. we're following breaking news in china, an explosion that happened at the front gates of aiken der garden. it's not clear whether or not the explosion was a deliberate act or perhaps the result of an accident. some local news media reports describe it as a possible gas tanks explosion. we're continuing to bring you updates as soon as we have new information throughout the morning. san francisco police have told us the names of the three ups workers shot and killed

yesterday in san francisco by a coworker. they are 56-year-old wayne chan of san francisco. 50-year-old benson louie of san francisco. and 46-year-old michael lefiti of hercules. the gunman, jimmy lam, killed himself. the building is operating again today. allie rasmus is out there this morning, joining us now with an update. allie. >> reporter: operating again. although on a somewhat limited capacity according to some of the employees here. i'm going to step out of the way so this driver can get right past me. you can see some of the streets in this area are still closed off as the metal barricades are set up on the sidewalks. people have brought out flowers, candles and left behind notes and signs. our thoughts are with you, big brown. that was the nickname for michael lefiti, a popular driver that a lot of people have spoken about since this

happened. we're at 17th and utah where we have seen a lot of employees and trucks driving in and out of the driveways all morning. i had a chance to speak with some of the workers this morning and they say even though it looks like things are back to normal, that is definitely not the case inside the building. the mood is somber, emotional, sad, with coworkers giving each other hugs and comfort after the loss of their colleague yesterday. >> everybody is emotional right now. sad. missing mike. mike was a big part of the building, man. came in every morning happy. said hi to everybody. gave hugs. he was a loud person. generous. big teddy bear, man. y bear, man. >> reporter: and that employee refers to one of the victims, ups driver mike lefiti. one of the three employees shot and killed by jimmy lam. according to police, the drivers yesterday morning went in for a regular morning meeting just before 9:00. many lam was upset about

something and left and came back with guns. he shot and killed his three coworkers before turning the gun on himself. two other employees were shot but survived. this morning out at the facility. we notice there had are private security guards and metal detectors in plain view. i asked the supervisor have they always been there and he said yes this is not a new thing that they added since yesterday. it raises the question how the employee was able to get inside of the building with his weapons. it is still unclear. the shooting is still under investigation. in fact yesterday police searched the gunman's home and came out with boxes of items. the motive is not clear. but a representative for the teamsters union says the gunman, lam, had filed a grievance with the union complaining about working too much overtime. back out here live it certainly seems like a busy location even though according to some of the workers that we have spoken with, things are at limited

very, very slow. westbound 80 will also be slow past the scene because people are looking at what is going on. again, the accident is just around the corner here. and kevin is pushing up for me. thank you, kevin. it is right there. they are trying to get it out of the lanes. to the right of the smoke, which is the regular smokestack, no one is getting through. do you see that? the freeway is empty. they're trying to get the crash out of the way. please give yourself extra time. this is a look at the westbound bay bridge. that is backed up to the maze. about a regular bay bridge commute. 25 to 30-minute delay before you make it on to the span. they have closed the oak street and the broadway and the jackson street off-ramp muchs in downtown oakland from 880. it is putting a lot of cars on side roads as you can see. look at the side road here. a lot of people are going to be on that side road. a lot of slow traffic as people come up on the closures. a good area to avoid. that would be downtown oakland. obviously this is all because of people coming to the parade. and it's going to be a very

crowded place. b.a.r.t. has recommended 12th street, city center or 19th street stations for the parade. 7:17. let's bring in steve. >> it's good that doesn't impact us here, sal. we're a long way from that. doh. >> doh. >> there are major changes here. yesterday was mostly fog free except for a patch or two. there is a lot along the coast. it will actually make it a little cooler. really nice. 66 downtown oakland at 10:00 a.m. 72 and 76. i can't beat that seriously. not too cold or windy or hot. temperatures look good here. 61 in concord and brentwood. a lot of 50s and fog has been stacking up on the san mateo coast and making it over to sfo, burlingame and some of the coastal hills as well. excessive heat watch saturday

and sunday. yes, we warm up tomorrow but today looks a little cooler. a bit of a breeze and the fog filling in going north. not all of the coast but there are spot that's it holds off or moves away, especially across the marine coast and sonoma coast and comes back in on the mendocino coast. high pressure is raring to go. this system coming by to the north. when the water temps are this cold, it only takes a weak front. when it is 49, 51 on the water temps, the fog forms fast. that's what happened this morning. it looks like one and done. i think by tomorrow it will get chewed up. westerly breeze, 20 miles per hour. that is stronger than yesterday at this time for sure. fairfield not howling but it is there. 60s for some already. it will warm up quick for others. a couple locations might cool off a couple degrees because of the on shore breeze and fog. overall lots of sunshine. this may be the coolest day for a while. all signs point to warmer temperatures tomorrow and taking us well into early next

>> welcome back to mornings on 2. the time is 7:21. congressman scalise is still in the hospital after a gunman who may have been politically motivated opened fire at a republican baseball practice. >> four people in all were wounded before the gunman was shot and killed by police. it has raised questions about the tone of political discourse in the country. as doug luzader reports from washington, the annual baseball game between republicans and democrats will go on as set today. doug. >> reporter: good morning. it will go on. they're preparing for the crowds tonight. they certainly have a lot of room here in nationals park. they may get a big turnout given all of the emotions surrounding this. there had been speculation that the game might be canceled. it will go on as scheduled. >> reporter: it has been 24 hours since shots rang out at a baseball practice. police killed the gunman james hodgkinson. and sent some of washington's most powerful people went running for cover. >> we dove into the dugout. >> reporter: wounded in the attack, louisiana congressman steve scalise who serves as the house majority whip, zach barth and mike mika. the two police officers there to protect scalise were also wounded. president trump and the first lady visited the washington hospital where scalise and one of the officers is being treated. as for the gunman, police have been reviewing post that's show anger against republicans and a known political activists. >> he asked me if this team was the republican or democrat team practicing. i responded it was the republican team practicing. >> we are strongest when we are

unified. and when we work together for the common good. >> reporter: the president spoke from the white house shortly after the attack. and house speaker paul ryan called for more unity in washington. >> an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. >> reporter: and ryan also cited this, a picture of democrats at their practice praying for the victims. the charity ball game in the meantime will happen. >> if we go home, then they win. >> reporter: yeah. this is a tradition that dates back to 1909. it has been canceled a few times in the past, during the depression, during world war ii. they felt it was important to send a message this time around that republicans and democrats can come together, do something positive. we will see how long this new sentiment lasts. back to you guys. >> doug luzader in washington, thank you. past mass shootings have

brought calls for greater gun controls. but the targeting of republican lawmakers yesterday prompted the opposite response. some demand that existing restrictions be loosened to people facing attacks are able to defend themselves. some of the representatives at the practice say washington, d.c.'s restrictive gun laws barred them from bringing weapons to the park. the too i am is 7:25. state lawmakers will vote on a new $125 billion budget that increases spending for social services and education. the governor and legislative leaders already negotiated the spending plan. it is expected to easily be approved by the full state senate and the assembly. both have democratic majorities. democrats have praised the budget for increasing payments for doctors and dentists who take care of medi-cal patients. if approved, the university of california system may see new restrictions. uc would lose out on $50

million in state funding if they don't meet audit recommendations, including financial restrictions and enrollment targets. this new budget gives lawmakers more control over funding for the uc president's office. the proposed restrictions are coming after an audit found that minute stray tore -- administrators were hiding money from the public. there are standards for or began i can marijuana and allow pot samples at county fairs and allow home deliveries. the budget agreement includes $118 million to pay for startup costs for the newly regulated industry. some members of the golden state warriors are already looking ahead to next season, even before the parade today. up next which players are free agents and which players are willing to take less money to keep the team together. plus if you're making your way to oakland for the championship parade, you will

bring you the excitement and the crowds live this morning from the heart of oakland. ktvu is based in oakland. a lot of people don't know that. you work in the city. no. we're east bay. we're so thankful that you're with us june 15th, this wednesday morning. i'm gasia mikaelian. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. it is a beautiful day weather- wise as well. steve paulson has been telling you that. steve is here. >> that is true. when do you get into the city? we're not in the city. >> right. >> good point. it is it is a beautiful day for the parade and cooler weather in store for today. after today it will be about sunshine and warm, warmer, hot temps. we will start off with 66. around 10:00, 72. 76 beautiful weather. what is going on across oakland right now? 50s for everybody. 54, 53, 57 for one. so a little cool but it won't take long to warm up. sun is out. no fog to deal with. there is some on the peninsula for sure. 50s and 60s on the temps here. a lot of fog on the san mateo

coast and spilling over to sfo and burlingame. that came roaring in around pillar point. it has filled in. mendocino coast and other areas are clear. that's the system that is dragging across, enhanced the on shore breeze. high pressure hat got its bags packed and ready to fire up to us starting tomorrow. west at sfo at 17. it will be sunny today. a couple degrees cooler. and tomorrow we will start warming things up. 60s, 70s, 80s and upper 80s. 90s inland. things are already getting busy around oakland. >> it is. i thought they were going to clear this accident quickly but they haven't. you can see how slow the traffic is. i want to show you the traffic is very slow. and after, look at 80 is empty. look at that. that is eastbound 80 right there. no cars are getting through. some cars are getting off on

the 580 ramp. no cars are getting through. because the accident is east 80 right there at gilman street. this is an unexpected backup getting away from the macarthur maze for the injury crash. 80 westbound is also slowing down. you can see the accident on the other side of the freeway and it will take drivers a little more time to drive by that. this is a look at the bay bridge. traffic backed up for 20 to 25 minutes. chp closed the jackson street off-ramp and broadway. that is causing more slow traffic. a lot of people on the side roads. you can see that people are on the side roads. it is not advised for you to drive into oakland with your car today. northbound 880 is also slow passing oracle arena coliseum. take b.a.r.t. the best station to get off is 12th street or 19th street. those are big stations and can accommodate you. 7:33.

back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. more than a million fans expected at the victory parade in oakland for the championship game. b.a.r.t. is already packed getting fans to and from the parade. >> alex savidge is live at the 19th street station in oakland on what we need to keep in mind, alex, for those at home hoping to take b.a.r.t. to the parade. >> reporter: yeah. the main thick to keep in mind, if or making b.a.r.t. to the parade, it is the best opposite to get here. you won't be alone. there is a big crowd here already along 20th and broadway along the parade route. i know a lot of these die hard warriors fans took b.a.r.t. to get down here today. the system they are seeing long lines at many stations to buy tickets. the trains are already getting crowded. according to b.a.r.t., the busiest time frame for them this morning is coming up between 8:00 this morning and 10:00 this morning, which is the start time for the parade. we're talking with a lot of riders who left early just to

beat the rush. [cheering and applause] >> we actually walked. >> and jumped on the train. here we are. >> yeah. hell yeah. >> reporter: now, if you can, the best advice from b.a.r.t. is to avoid getting off at the lake merritt station. instead, try to use 12th street or 19th street where we are this morning. b.a.r.t. says they are bracing for record ridership. the most people that ever rode b.a.r.t. in a single day was back in 2012 when 568,000 riders took to the trains to celebrate the giants world series championship. and the parade in san francisco that year. b.a.r.t. is prepared for the fact that they may have even more people using the system today. they have longer train that's are running more often. >> we really need people to be patient and understand that with so many people in a confined space, it will take

time to get places and it will require patience and understanding that you're not going to be able to get necessarily where you want to go right away. >> reporter: one of the big things that may slow you down if you're getting on b.a.r.t. this morning to come to the parade and buying a ticket. maybe you don't ride b.a.r.t. very often but you're buying a paper ticket. those lines to buy tickets at any many of the -- at many of the stations are very long. so buy a clipper card. many of the stations if you bring $15 in cash, they will have station agents standing there to sell you $15 clipper cards. that will save you a lot of time. as we bring you back out here live, you want to get here as soon as possible. as you can see, things are filling in here along the parade route. you want to get down here and get a good spot so you can see steph curry, kd and the rest of the crew as they roll by.

you can catch all of the excitement and action on ktvu fox 2 and the live stream as well. online you will find more information about the parade and the street closures. again your source is ktvu.com. all right. the time is now 7:39. in other news, mark peterson the embattled contra costa county district attorney has resigned. it is part of a plea deal in a criminal case over misusing campaign funds. peterson pled guilty to one count of perjury but 12 other felony counts were dropped. peterson is charged with spending $66,000 in campaign money on personal bills and buying jewelry and other items. he was sentenced to 250 hours of community service and three years probation. the time is 7:39. the jury in the bill cosby sexual assault case it going into its fourth day of deliberations this morning. the jury has been deliberate rating 27 hours since getting the case on monday. they caused to go over key

evidence, including a deposition from a decade ago describing the incident. cosby is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a temple university worker in 2004. cosby says the encounter was consensual. mueller is investigating president trump for possible obstruction of justice. it stems from the firing of comey. comey testified before congress that he believed he was fired because he refused to end the criminal investigation into former national security adviser michael flynn. the paper says that special counsel mueller will interview the director of national intelligence, the head of the national security agency and others. also president trump is responding to this report this morning. he tweeted, quote, they made up a phony collusion with the russians story. found zero proof.

>> the death toll in london from yesterday's massive fire at the 24-story apartment building has gone up dramatically to 17. officials say they expect that number to go even higher as firefighters search the building. the fire that broke out early yesterday morning destroyed the building. at least 500 people lived there. there is anger in the neighborhood this morning where people say they have been warning about fire hazards at the building for more than a year now. a $13 million refurbishment only made cosmetic changes. no sprinklers installed and only one staircase.

westbound 580. this crash has been there for at least 40 minutes. it really is having a big impact on the traffic eastbound as you drive. a big effect on the traffic. let's move along and take a look at the bay brick westbound. that is backed up to the macarthur maze. and this morning's commute in downtown oakland as gasia mentioned a lot of show traffic in oakland. some of the ramps in downtown oakland have been shut down. they don't want that many cars on city streets. the parade starts at 10:00. people are already showing up. you can't take the downtown oakland ramps so take b.a.r.t. if you're going to the parade and expect slow traffic if you're driving through. let's talk about 880 oakland a little farther down near the coliseum. slowing northbound. the east bay commute is moderate between hayward and union city. and the south bay commute is well. like a normal thursday here in san jose. all of the routing getting into the west valley are crowded as

when you come up, that's what you will see. that's why it is so slow on 880 through oakland. if we can go back to my picture of 880 on the roof cam in the control room, it is very, very slow. people are jammed in traffic getting up to the area. it will be a slow commute. i do not recommend you doing this. it is backed up all the way down to the coliseum. look at the slow traffic on northbound 880. so take b.a.r.t. and use the 12th or the 19th street stations. let's go back to gasia. >> thank you, sal. we are counting down to the warriors championship celebration. the parade begins at 10:00 this morning. our uninterrupted coverage of dub nation celebration starts in a little less than an hour. >> warriors fans are eager. some like him started lining up last night for spots along the parade route in oakland. these are live pictures. we're right there and you're right there with the fans. this is near the beginning of the parade route.

>> reporter: yeah. what a difference a couple of hours makes. we were two deep on either side of broadway right now. if you look to my left, your right, you will see an armored police vehicle. we talked about the crowd. there will be a security presence out here as well. the warriors will go down 1 # 1st street and take a left turn down on broadway here. we are expecting big crowds. probably 1.6 million people expected. as we heard from alex savidge, plenty of people will also be using b.a.r.t. station near 12th street. there is a station right here. so an easy way to get down to the parade. plenty of police are down here as well. 20 police officers will be stationed per block. we have motorcycle patrols as well and even a decal along the route. people are advised to travel

down after the drivers were shot. what is happening this morning. >> the facility is back in operation. most of the people who work here will tell you that things are not the same. we have seen a lot of employees coming back this morning, returning to work, meeting with the teamsters representative, this gentleman in the black shirt. you can tell by the trademark brown uniforms these are ups employees. they have been gathering and kind of stopping and pausing in front of this memorial that is out here on 17th and utah. you can see the sign says our thoughts are with you, big brown. that was the nickname for mike lefiti, one of the popular ups drivers killed here yesterday in this workplace shooting. there is also another memorial a block away at 16th and bruno. the street in between. you can see from the barricades and the police tape it is still closed off. the ups workers, wayne chan, benson louie, they were shot and killed by another coworker,

jimmy lam. full screen, the graphic shows you the name of the three victims. lefiti, chan and benson louie. it happened after 9:00 yesterday morning avenue the regular morning meeting. lam shot and killed three coworkers before he was confronted by police and turned the gun on himself. two other employees were shot but survived. workers say the mood is somber and sad understandably. ups is providing on-site counseling services for the employees who work here. >> it is kind of rough for us. being in that type of situation and then seeing people that you work with on a daily basis and then they're gone and it's like they're not here with you anymore. you still have to go to work. it is kind of rough. the morale is low. >> they only got a little stuff

to go. downstairs it is not normal. nothing is normal today. it is not normal. it's not the same. everybody is not all amped up like we usually with. >> now, there are private security guards and metal detectors in plain screw at the entrances of the warehouse. one of the workers told me they are not new. they were not installed overnight. so it raises the question how an employee was able to get inside with the weapon in the first place. the shooting is still under investigation. police searched the gunman's home and came out with a box of items. the motive is not clear. but a representative for the team certificates says that he had filed a grievance a couple months ago complaining about working too much overtime. they issued alerts to customers in san francisco letting them

minutes. a lot of people still have to go to work. this is a look at 880 in oakland. a lot of the ramps are closed. they just simply don't want a lot of cars in downtown oakland because of the parade. a lot of the streets are closed was of the parade. a large part of oakland streets are detoured and closed because of the parade that starts at 10:00 this morning. this is a look at northbound 880. it is slow passing oracle arena getting into downtown. the best way to get to the parade if you want to go, plenty of room for you to get a spot somewhere is to take b.a.r.t. to 12th street, city center or 19th street. those are the best stations to access the parade. 8:18. let's bring in steve in. it will be a nice weather day for the parade. >> yes, it is. san mateo coast and parts of marin and sonoma, overall it

problem or has it gotten better. >> it is getting better. they are making progress. that is good. let's touch on it again. you may be wondering if eastbound 80 is open. yes. they have opened up the lanes eastbound 80 at gilman. the damage is done. a lot of slow traffic out of the maze and getting up into the gilman area. now finally the lanes have reopened and things are getting a little better. westbound traffic as you come through the area, we will take a look. it is taking about 30 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. it's about a 20 to 25-minute delay. so it is a typical commute getting into san francisco. speaking of san francisco, northbound 101, not too bad. a little bit of crowding getting on to the lower deck of the bay bridge. this is a look at 880 in oakland both directions. there are a lot of closures in the area here on 880. and people are also using frontage roads to get through.

>> welcome back to mornings on 2. it is now 8:43. the death toll now 17 in london from yesterday's huge fire at a 24-story apartment building. the death toll is expected to go even higher though. firefighters are starting to search that building. the fire destroyed the building where at least 500 people lived. many in the neighborhood are angry, saying they warned about fire hazards for more than a year. this morning, british prime minister theresa may went to the fire scene and ordered a full investigation. >> we need to know -- have an explanation of this. we owe that to the families, the people who have lost loved ones, friends, and homes in which they lived. >> hundreds of people were left homeless by that fire. these emergency shelters have been set up. people have been dropping off

food, water, bedding and clothing. mark peterson the embattled contra costa county district attorney has resigned as part of a plea deal in a criminal case over misusing campaign funds. peterson pleaded guilty to one count of perjury yesterday. 12 other felony counts were dropped. peterson is charged with spending $66,000 in campaign funds on personal bills and buying jewelry and other items. he was sentence today 250 hours of community service and three years probation. facebook founder mark zuckerberg and his wife are helping bay area teachers make a down payment on a home. they are donating $5 million to lendit for homes for teachers, to help with the down payments. each teacher is eligible for up to $120,000 in assistance. google is working on a plan to provide housing for its employees. the parent company alphabet is
